I've never had this issue at a restaurant before. Due to dietary restrictions, I can't drink soda, alcohol, and even certain types of water upset my stomach. Other establishments have always been understanding and allowed me to bring my own drink as a reasonable accommodation. Here, that request was flatly refused--even after I explained the situation and offered to provide medical documentation. The lack of flexibility or willingness to accommodate made the experience frustrating and disappointing. Because of this, we won't be returning or recommending this place. First time trying this place. Walked in and were seated quickly. Ambience is kind of odd, honestly. Not sure what the vibe was that they were going for, but it just seemed like some random decor relating to crabs/fishermen. Service was on the slow side. We ordered hush puppies as an appetizer. Thought it was odd that a fish place charged $4 for hush puppies. Kind of like chips/salsa at a Mexican food place. They were good, for sure. Honestly, the best part of the meal. When ordering, I was kind of excited about the Po Boy sandwiches. Waiter told us he wasn't a fan of them. Ended up getting a catfish basket, and a combo basket with shrimp and flounder. Took a while, but when the food came out, there was a mound of fried food on each basket. No silverware, no plates, etc. Cajun fries were very over seasoned. Regular fries were just greasy. Catfish filets were very large, and very greasy. So much so, they just fell apart when you tried to pick them up. Same with the flounder. Only thing that was cooked well and tasted good were the four shrimp. Nearly $20 each for some overly fried and soggy food. Probably will not be back. read more

My boyfriend & I drove an hour just to dine at hook & reel. We arrived 35 minutes before closing. As soon as we got there they hesitated on serving us because it was closing time. The hostess then introduced us to our initial waitress whose name is Lisa. Lisa then rolled her eyes at my boyfriend & I then stated "I guess." This kind of service discouraged us from eating here but thankfully we got a different waitress which convinced us to stay. Don't come here if you expect great service, especially if waitress Lisa is there because she will deny serving you 30 minutes before closing time. I felt unwelcomed & uncomfortable due to Lisa. We were craving calamari so we stopped by Hook & Reel for that. Once there we decided we were hungry and ordered the Reel Catch with spicy Hook and Reel seasoning, which comes with black mussels, crab legs, crawfish, corn and potatoes. There are a few other options but this is what we chose. The crab legs were on the small side and the meat was hard to get out, but tasted fine. The crawfish and mussels were excellent, and that seasoning on the corn is very tasty. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed but kept the water full, and he was very polite. The calamari had great flavor but was pretty greasy and the marinara to calamari ratio was way off. Still, we'll be back. read more

This was our first time at Hook and Reel. I was pleasantly surprised the food was really good. Growing up on the gulf coast I never eat seafood in Lubbock. We ordered a boil bag with head-off shrimp and snow crab. It was served in a large plastic bag with all the fixings. Our server Hunter made the whole experience. Since it was fathers day they were really busy and we had to wait a while for the table (to be expected on a holiday). Once we were sat we were promptly greeted by Hunter. He was happy, energetic and attentive the whole experience. He educated us on the menu, gave extra attention to Our six-year-old and checked on us often but not enough to be obtrusive. The restaurant was clean and did not smell like seafood when you walked inside, it was trivia night so we had the bonus of some great music.
