The hush puppies didn't really have a flavor other than 'hot' - no onion or anything. Big disappointment. I pulled off the road with a serious quake, This place was handy, my bowels were at stake. The place was clean, and the water ran strong, The stall lock held tight, so nothing went wrong. I ordered the 6-piece fish and the fried jalapenos. I liked the fish; it did not blow me away but I did enjoy it. It came out hot, crispy on the outside but moist and soft on the inside and not greasy at all, and looked quite appetizing. I could only do 3 of the 6, and shared the rest with a friend. The meal included a lot of fries and definitely portioned for more than one. I enjoyed the fish more than the fried jalapenos. The portion of the jalapenos was huge! I am hyper-sensitive to salt and the fish were not overly salty, which is a pleasant surprise for most foods in Lubbock. The jalapenos however, while not overly salted, but still saltier than I liked. However, not spicy at all. Not too bad. Fast, fried food. The meals were affordably priced and came with drinks. Nothing we got was bad- but it was seemingly all premade, rebated, frozen food. Standard food distributor style. We got the chicken and catfish plate, and fried okra, hush puppies. I don't eat meat so the sides were for me and one was left out of the order which was a bummer. It's a renovated fast food restaurant so it's not cozy but it was clean. The sodas tasted funny so we ended up getting tea. I'd go back if I wanted some quick fried food. read more

I was so disappointed with both my husband's meal and mine. After reading so many great reviews of several menu items I was especially excited to try the fried pickles. We ordered chicken tenders ,fried fish, and shrimp. For sides, we got rice & beans, and coleslaw. The beans looked and tasted more like refried beans than rice and beans. First off, the customer service was the best I've had in years! I felt so welcomed. Secondly, I ordered another #17 (3 piece fish and 3 shrimp) with double fries, a side of Cole slaw, and a side of beans and rice. The meal includes a roll and a drink (which the Coke Zero (coming from a drink fountain machine) which was very strong! Which I loved!). Let me break this down to you: I ate the grilled version of the fish and shrimp. It was not greasy, nor salty, and had a side of perfectly grilled bell peppers and onions that complemented the seafood so well. The fries were incredibly flavorful, and it was enough to share with 4 people. The Cole slaw was the best that I've had from any restaurant. It was a wet version that was semi-sweet and had a great crunch to it. The beans and rice tasted very homemade. It is the definition of southern comfort food. The only thing I would suggest is that I wish that the beans and the rice were cooked a littler softer. But the flavor and the presentation of this side is awesome! The tartar sauce is an orange color and reminds me of a Cajun version of tartar sauce. It went very well with the fish and the fries. Overall, my first experience was unforgettable. It was enough food to share with roughly 3 to 4 people. The price was very reasonable and again, the service was top tier. I made an online order and picked my food up at 6:10 pm. This is the 2nd time I have been and they were out of unsweetened tea, and been offered a soda instead. I don't drink soda's or sugar. The drink is supposed to be included. I was not offered any type of refund for not receiving a drink with my meal. They are open until 10 pm and it was 6:10 pm. Make some fresh tea. I recently stopped at Sam's (on 50th St.) to pick up some food after a long work day; I ordered the three fish and three shrimp combo along with a side order of coleslaw, hush puppies, and red beans with rice. The two people who were standing behind the counter never said anything to me while I was stood there looking at the menu, and I stood there for a while. Finally, one of them asked me what I wanted, and I gave them my order. It took a while to get my food, but it was good overall. As I waited, I looked around the dining area and felt that it would benefit from a little more cleanliness and attentiveness to making the place look more inviting for their customers. My first time at Sam's today. Food is a little pricey, but you get large portions. The fish and the shrimp are to die for. Shrimp are fried golden brown and are pretty good size. Fish is catfish fillet cut into strips about a foot long each. The chicken, however is coated in a spicy batter and too hot to eat for some tastes.
