On par with most fast food chains, Cafe Yumm is one of my go-to places when I want something fast but still somewhat healthy, or at least not greasy. Normally I would give them a 4-star review, but this 3-star is specific to the Gateway location. The food is great, and the service is average. The one big drawback for me is the water. Oregon is known for having some of the best water in the country! A fact that I am pretty proud of considering I have experienced a lot of water from around the world. The water served at this location is a self-serve station, standard in each Cafe Yumm, however, the temperature of the water here seems to always be lukewarm. If this can get changed I will absolutely change my rating to 4-stars. Otherwise, this is a great lunch location, always good for a meeting place. The food comes out quick, and the volume level is perfect to have a good conversation with a friend. It's kid friendly, and parking (although can be busy at lunch) is plentiful. read more

The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is always clean. The tofu is hot and cooked perfectly. They have the ratio of the ingredients in the bowl down to a science. I've been going to these places for years with zero complaints and that's saying something. I mean it's essentially fast food that won't make you feel inward shame so the expectations are still low. Plus the product is easy to construct in a formulaic way so as long as a human actually looks at the ticket we should be good to go. At this location I don't know if the people running the place were high or of shockingly low intelligence but how do you screw up a yumm bowl? The order was two hot and jazzies, add chicken, cauliflower rice, extra spicy sauce, no beans. And true to form that was all on the ticket. We were in between appointments and didn't stop to check their work since you kind of have to eat it to find out anyway and we've never had a problem before. What we got was the blandest gross things ever. Indeed we had red beans which are honestly tasteless, almost no sauce, I've had these bowls be face melting hot and you couldn't even tell a jalapeño had been consulted let alone there being not a single physical one in the order. The bottom was weird and watery, the chicken was dry, and the cheese was almost non existent. Come on guys. I get it, you're not paid to go the extra mile but this is just sad. I really wanted to like this place and add it to my healthy list of options when dining out. Yuck. I would have thought the chicken served in the brown rice bowls was healthy white breast meat, but it wasn't. It was dark, slimy and fatty. Totally gross and I couldn't eat it so it went in the trash along with the under-cooked brown rice. Even when I don't modify anything, like, this is how these items automatically come and they still can't get it right? (No yumm sauce with the bento when I ordered extra, tempeh skewer when I ordered a tofu skewer, no chips with my yumm n greens when that's the whole point of yumm n greens? Etc.) Normally I don't write a bad review when something is wrong because I know mistakes happen but come on.. this is just ridiculous. I love having this restaurant close to my house, especially since I started buying Yumm sauce and making bowls at home. If you haven't tried the jalapeno sesame salsa, I think it's one of the best things CY has to offer (it comes on the hot & jazzy bowls, but you can substitute it on the original bowls). The cookies are always a tasty treat, the soups are equally delicious. They are quick to have orders ready for pick up (online or phone) or delivery (uber eats) even during busy times of the day. read more

Sorry guys I would call this place "Cafe Yuck!" This should have been totally in my wheel house! I love all the food they had on their menu and I was looking forward to healthy "fast food". But we left and went immediately next door and got a turkey sandwich to go! Terrible! The spicy bowl is what I ordered and maybe the sesame oil was old or past its prime or maybe they added tempe I to their "yummy" sauce but seriously I will be surprised if I am not sick later tonight. Something did not taste right in this bowl. I did add tofu and that was probably the best part and certainly the smallest portion I could imagine of an inexpensive protein. Hubby had the chicken bento box and I probably should have left the teriyaki on top but opted for grilled chicken. Bad plan. The chicken tasted like Cisco and rubbery over a ton of decent brown rice. So basically this was a plate of rice with a tiny amount of rubbery chicken with the best part ginger coke slaw. Always enjoy Cafe Yumm! It's consistently tasty with just the right amount of food in the bowl. The restaurant is always clean and I think it's great how bathrooms are available at every location I have been too. I love how I am able to customize my Yumm bowl and I love that they allow for substitutions based on dietary restrictions. That is tremendous and they do it all with a smile. This trip I was in for a quick to go order. They were fast and efficient. I was able to substitute avocado in lieu of the tomatoes and sour cream. They packed up my jazzy Yumm bowl in no time and I was thrilled. It was delicious as always! I will be back and back and back and back! read more

I love Cafe Yumm! It's a great, healthy option if you're eating out. The food is fresh and there are several organic items on the menu. I love the chipotle Yumm sauce. The restaurants are simple, but clean. The large and medium bowls don't seem much different in size to me even though you pay more for the large. My favorite thing to do is to buy the Yumm sauce from the restaurant or grocery stores and make my own Yumm bowls at home. But when you're on the go, the restaurant is a good option too. read more

I'm not sure if you're eating more healthy from just the type of food here... or also because of the portions you get for what you pay. I keep seeing reviews about these tofu skewers.. and I suppose I shouldn't have been too surprised when I tried ordering them and find out they didn't have any more. The bowls don't look too complicated.. some rice, veggies.. and whatever else you want to add. I ordered the Yumm! Baby.. which has all their usual toppings, with their yumm sauce and extra avocado. After failing to get a tofu skewer because they were out, I settled on getting a Tempeh skewer instead. After any meal.. I usually go through a few thought processes... If the food was good, if the service was great, and at least for my poor wallet.. if it was all worth it. Sadly.. this place fails the last test for me. I can't see why I would come back to buy their food here for something I could probably make at home for a fraction of the cost. Is their signature "yumm sauce" that special? or.. is there anything else in my bowl that could make the price worth it? I just can't see it.. When I drive from Pdx to GP or vice-versa, it is about a 4 hour drive and this location of Cafe Yumm is the perfect rest-stop. It is right off the freeway, it is super-duper fast and it's healthy. And, when the weather is nice they have outdoor seating, and that is ideal for me to bring my dogs. There is a little bit of green space in the parking lot too, so with a creative route it is also a good reststop for my dogs too. As a vegetarian there is not a lot of fast food options for me, and I can only tolerate so much subway & quizno's, so this is a refreshing pit stop with unique food options. First time at Cafe yumm--and i gotta say--it wasn't the healthiest place i've ever been. I think there's some confusion with respect to the vegan options, and what is being served there. I see a lot of reviewers on here mention that they want the vegan bowl and still get the cheese and sour cream--it happened to me as well--and i didn't mention anything but there needs to be a better process where it is clarified. In any event, having said that the Tofu was amazing! great texture and a lot of flavor. The beans and rice were perfectly cooked as well, and the Yumm sauce was pretty tasty! Cafe Yumm is true to it's name. It sure is yummy. Kinda like Mexican food, except not really. Somehow back in college I didn't want anything to do with this place. Rice, beans, tomatoes, some other stuff, and some sauce in a bowl just didn't sound like it was worth $8 to me. Well college self, you were wrong, this food is delicious. It is nice to find a chain fast food joint that offers healthy and tasty choices. I tend to eat at locally owned and operated places, but when you have driven more than a 1000 miles in just a few days, and you are hungry this is a super place to find just off the freeway. I ordered the Original bowl - medium, and paid $2 more to add chicken. The bowl was good but next time I'll pass on the chicken. This place is great for a yuppie who needs lunch on the go. I pretty much only eat their original yumm bowls, medium. They have this yummy "yumm" sauce and put in all these healthy good for you stuff like avocado, olives, cilantro, tomato, cheese, sour cream, etc. You mix it all up, eat it, get back in your prius, and go back to work! The staff are quick and pretty nice though it kind of has a fast food feel. The restaurants are well-kept and modern, and kept at a moderate temperature. I'd eat there more if they had a drive thru.... and I don't recommend going there for anything except lunch because you tend to get hungry again pretty fast. P.S. I researched them on the web recently and feel a little put out by the fact that they are so high in fat. Like big mac high in fat (though I am sure its not saturated). I feel that their advertising, corporate image, and other marketing is misleading. It was enough to make me not want to eat there again. Not because they have dishes so high in fat, but because they can't own up to it. They don't even have a nutritional guide. The staff has been super friendly every single time we've been in. I've loved the Tempeh, and Tofu Skewers I've tried. I'm addicted to the hot and Jazzy so that's basically the only thing I order on a regular basis It's always great. When I've tried the soups, no complaints at all. This place was pretty busy when we walked in! Pretty small on the inside with limited seating. I ordered the Soup/Salad lunch combo. Organic Salad, no cheese, no frills, had their balsamic vin. dressing on the side. Nothing great, it is just lettuce and vegetables, tomatoes, carrots, and leafs. The salad was pretty good.
