I spent my lunch driving there at 1130; opened at 11. 3 customers (list revenue) walked out because the yea wasn't ready and the tapioca wasn't ready. It's like Starbucks being out if coffee. I've been going here for years. I have loved the popcorn chicken and fried tofu with tonkatsu sauce, but was dissapointed once when it came with no sauce. This came as a surprise, because the sauce is supposed to come with it. I also ordered the onion rings to find around 12 rings inside for $5.00. The smoothies are fine, but the tapioca is sometimes hard (kind of ironic how it's called cafe tapioca). To top it all off, I had just discovered they charge tip on top of tax. Being that this is one of the few places to get tapioca in the Tri-Valley area, my appreciation for this place is pretty darn high. I personally am a huge mango fan, but the times I've ordered their mango tapioca I never really thought anything stood out about it. My usual order here is the Green Tea Smoothie, made with Green Tea ice cream, yum! Service here can be kinda slow, but I usually don't have to wait longer than 10 min to get my drink, the tapicoa balls have always tasted fresh and recently boiled. read more

Cafe Tapioca is a small mom and pop boba shop. We've come in the past when my sister and brother in law were new to the area. They used to love collecting and reusing their durable plastic cups. Most recently, we dropped by after dinner one night for a boba fix. I was glad that they were able to make my drink less sweet. I got their almond milk tea (hot) and it was ok. My sister got the cold version less sweet and it was still too sweet. If you are in Nor Cal (East Bay area), this maybe one of the closest shops to you. Its been a couple three years since I've been here. Im always going to the bagel bakery and never seem to see this place busy. I decided to come in for an afternoon snack and picked up a standard large royal milk tea with boba. The drink it self was fine however I was shocked when I went to pay for my drink. It was $5.74!!! I looked at the receipt and the drink was $5.25 for the drink and another .$49 for boba! The same drink at Shear Tea (which in my opinion tastes just as good or better and also the same size) is only $4.00. I didn't realize how expensive this place is. read more

Cafe Tapioca has gone down hill over the years, but today they hit a new low. They have messed up my order both times I have been there last. Today I only went because I had a coupon that they wouldn't honor because their coupon system is out of order. Today they messed up my order and didn't make it very well when they made it correctly. It had multiple chunks of powder/mix in the drink. Their customer service used to be good, but it's no longer. When I mentioned that one of my drinks was wrong today and that they had said it correctly both when he gave it to me and when I ordered it, he simply shrugged his shoulders with no apology or anything after two mistakes on their part. Today was a big disappointment to say the least. Without the coupon I could have gotten much better boba for the same price that was closer to my physical location, for example Boba Guys and Teaspoon! My go-to when trying any new boba place is a jasmine milk tea with pearls, and basil popcorn chicken if they have it. The chicken was REALLY good, and the basil itself was great even if it didn't add flavor to the chicken itself--I had medium and was happy with the level of spice. I was not happy with the portion size. It's as expensive as other places but you get less. I couldn't actually taste the jasmine in my milk tea because it tasted like something else. It was weirdly fruity. The shop is beautifully decorated and appointed. Wood furnishings everywhere. Some of the benches have pillows so you can make yourself comfy. The place feels roomy and clean. The tables are kept tidy and don't feel sticky. There are tons of knick knacks for sale and they've got games to play. For the total cost, I'm a bit bummed out and will probably go elsewhere if I'm ordering the same thing again. read more

I went here today with a couple of friends and was so disappointed. RED BEAN MILK TEA W/ EGG PUDDING: Today was chance #3. The boyfriend ordered the same drink a couple of months ago and it was delicious. Three chances later and it's still not the same; the red beans are HARD. I asked the lady behind the counter if the red beans were mushy and fully cooked and she said yes, but she was wrong. With 4 investments in their drink, I can officially say that they need to cook it longer and this is my official campaign! My friend asked for what basically was a fruit smoothie with boba and no sugar or any other additives. She paid $4.25 for some sort of watermelon boba concoction. There was definitely more than just watermelon in the drink. All of their fruit drinks come with sugar, and I think it's gross that they pre-cut the avocados for the drinks and place it in the fridge. AVOCADOS GET BROWN!! This place has a decent almond milk tea (I'm told that they use real tea). I will rate this place higher when I order and receive a better red bean milk tea. read more

Not too bad! Went there today and got a Honeydew Melon Milk Tea with Aloe and an Ovaltine Milk Tea. The line was short this afternoon and our drinks were out within minutes. They were preparing a taro smoothie for another customer and had leftovers in the blender so they offered us a couple of samples. The Melon Milk tea was great! From the outside the shop looked a bit ehhh, but as you walk in the interior is really cute. I honestly would never have thought to come in here, but since we were thirsty we thought what the heck. They have nice tables with plants on each of them, and a cute wooden wall with their logo. I ordered a mango passionfruit smoothie, and my sister got a strawberry banana smoothie which were both delicious! They have a wide range of drinks to choose from. This place used to be so much better. They used to monopolize the boba space in this area, but now they've got some stiff competition with other Boba places popping up. Came here at 6pm on a Fri, only one other person in the shop playing a video game. I later realized that the guy playing a video game was waiting for his drink! 3 ladies there and it still took 15 minutes to get a green tea crema with aloe. I asked for reduced sugar. The woman taking my order looked at me strange. In this market a boba store needs to be able to offer sweetner and ice customization options! Bummer. read more

I've been coming here since I moved to Dublin as a child, which happens to be more than TEN years ago. Up until the past few months, Cafe Tap looked like any other Asian boba cafe. However, they upgraded recently, and it looks a lot better. They even provide fun little games (I personally enjoy Uno or a game of cards because it's the perfect time frame). I moved two years ago and I've been adventuring to look for a drink like Cafe Tap's. I've gone to T4, ShareTea, and TeaOne, and let me tell you, nothing compares. As a child, I would play it safe and get a strawberry smoothie. Then I moved onto a honey milk tea, and now I'm in a phase of ice cream royal milk tea. If you end up going here, try it. Trust me when I say I feel like a vampire drinking human blood and can't stop because it's so good. Kind of dramatic, but you'll understand. Every time I'm in town, I stop by. Without a doubt, FIVE STARS for their drinks! Another five stars to customer service. Edward, the manager and owner, is hospitable to everyone. He's always having an enjoyable conversation with his customers, and I can definitely tell that he has strong interpersonal communication skills. Even the employees are great. I always get a certain drink, and the last time I was there, it tasted different. Drinks: 4/5 We ordered 4 drinks - jasmine milk tea with tapioca and mango jelly, taro milk tea with strawberry jelly, jasmine green milk tea with tapioca, and coffee milk with tapioca. The tapioca was perfect, not too mushy or too firm and the mango jelly was very flavorful. My sister ordered the taro milk tea with strawberry jelly and it definitely wasn't her favorite drink. The taro flavor wasn't very strong as many other boba places and over the drink tasted too milky. However, she really liked the strawberry jelly! My dad was happy that this place served coffee milk tea since not too many places have this item on the menu and it is his favorite flavor to try. There was a strong coffee flavor which is what he wanted. For the jasmine green milk tea, you could definitely taste the green tea with not an overwhelming jasmine flavor. Both the coffee milk tea and jasmine green milk tea were loved by my parents. The drinks were $3.75 for a regular size with tapioca and jellies adding $0.50 each. Ordering a large would cost $1 more. Inside Accommodations: 5/5 There are many games available for guests to play including Jenga, Monopoly, and Guess Who. They also have key chains and smaller pre-packaged snacks for sale next to the counter. There is a TV above the small tables where the games are playing different music videos. There is plenty of seating inside along with a bar-type table looking out the window. Many succulents and little plants are placed everywhere. My family and I were only here to buy some boba real quick for the road, but I think I would enjoy coming back here to hang out with friends since the atmosphere and the accommodations are so nice. I just wished I could have actually tried all of the drinks that I actually ordered but they messed up 2 of our drinks 3 times. How is this even possible even after repeating our order multiple times to us and we confirm that they got it right. But then when they repeat our order from the person taking order to the person who makes the drink in Chinese we get completely different drinks! Invested of grape slush we got grapefruit. My kids hated it as it was too bitter. Then they forgot hubbys drink. Then they make his as milk tea but we ordered as a slush. Luckily they got my order right but it was just too sweet and I actually couldn't finish it. So drinks are just okay... Maybe a good stop after a great lunch/dinner nearby. I'm giving it four stars because, well, it is the only game in town! Q-Cup closed last month which ended the battle over Dublin's domain. Keep in mind, if you're the only game in town and don't get 5 stars there is definitely room for improvement! I must confess. I am addicted to red bean -- truly, madly & deeply. I once nearly polished off a bowl of red bean soup intended for 10 people. (Shhhh... don't tell Richard Simmons.) Cafe Tapioca's menu has a woeful lack of items that contain the savory substance. Q Cup would add Red Bean if requested! I'm a little dissapointed by the fact that they neither have taro balls nor sweet buttered toast but it is the best I can do without running out west. Sometimes, you just gotta' have a taro ball. However, if you like having snacks to take to work or gnaw on at home you can pick them up here. This includes cookies and dried fish (Yes, these two items _DO_ belong in the same sentence . . . try the little fish. You'll like them.) Furthermore, if you know you have an addiction to boba (but not red bean) you can pre-pay for your fix! That's right no need to pan handle or thieve when you need a fix you can pay for your tea in advance. CASH ONLY!!! The scene: That being said the place is by no means terrible It's great for a quick snack. The service is very friendy. They remeber individual customers and will stay open if there is a rush. I will say that it makes for a nifty 'after-school' hangout. Usually the older crowd only stays there long enough to pick up an order. The parking situation is nifty. And, if you're really hungry there are 3 full service restaurants in the same shopping center. This is easily my favorite place to get a pearl milk tea in the East Bay. Unlike Quickly, their boba drinks aren't watered down. The interior atmosphere is bright, small & cozy, with comfortable seating; feeling like a dessert shop in SF, except it's located in Dublin with plenty of parking. The best chocolate pearl milk tea drink that I've ever gotten was in Hong Kong. Unfortunately.., there were no other places in the U.S. where I could find a place that came close to that quality & flavor, but Cafe Tapioca comes pretty close! I ordered a taro milk tea with tapioca, jasmine milk tea with grass jelly, and a strawberry/banana smoothie. My taro milk tea was pretty good - not too sweet or watered down. I liked the texture of their tapioca. It wasn't mushy or difficult to chew on. The other drinks were for my coworkers and they liked their drinks as well, except the jasmine milk tea did not have much grass jelly. That's why I took down a star. I also didn't like that this boba place was cash only. I know a lot of boba places are like that, but it's inconvenient because I never carry cash. I had to go to the Cathay Bank nearby to withdraw cash and I got charged $2 because I used my BofA card. Nowadays, they have accessories for phones/tablets that let you charge credit/debit cards - just saying. Definitely too sweet! I should have ordered less sweet, only if I'd known. I had the rose tea and I thought it was just OK. I felt like I was drinking more syrup than tea or rose essence. They had real rose petals in the drink, which hindered my drinking flow. I would get soggy pieces of rose caught in my lips and of course I wasn't going to eat it, so I had to keep spitting it out. Love this place! I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. The owners are so welcoming and very personable! My favorite drinks are definitely the Royal Milk tea, ice cream milk tea (green tea ice cream flavor), and the avocado green tea smoothie. I would like to consider myself a boba connoisseur. I pretty much judge boba spots based on how good the classic milk tea tastes. So with that in mind, I've made Cafe Tapioca as one of my highly recommended boba spots! I just got two drinks from here and the experience wasnt so delight. They messed up 1 drink(gave us the wrong drink) and in the other drink that they got correct, there was hair. There were two workers, when I came back to see if they could redo the drinks, one worker was clearly apologetic while the other showed unhappy attitude. There was no compensation drink but thats okay. When I got the two correct drinks, there was a clear different in sweetness and ice in both of the drinks. The drinks were less sweet and they were very thick due to the heavy amount of ice. It kindof sucks to regret getting the drinks redone when the messed up drink and drink with hair wouldve been better. read more
