It's a cute little coffee shop with a wide variety of coffee. It's always busy and very hard to get a place.

I have NEVER been disappointed. Sometimes things have been hit and miss, and wait times are a bit wacky, but as a former server/bartender I get that there are a lot of hard working people involved in the running of a restaurant. Give them a chance, give them 10, it's worth it. If I could get coffee there everyday I would. They accidentally put my coffee in the used pen cup once and I didn't even care. And I'm sure if I had called after I realized they would have made it right. They are great people. Sad to be moving across town, but I'll be back. read more

This place has about 15 tables and all are being used. We waited about 15 minutes to get seated for a party of 4 - 2 adults and 2 kids. My husband devoured the Java plate with avocado slices. I got the 2x2x2 - French toast, bacon and eggs. The eggs were delicious - light and buttery. My sons had the pancake, bacon and a taco. The bacon is cooked in a skillet vs. the oven. Walked over to Taco Deli today (Saturday Memorial Day Weekend) and saw a line out the door. Well it's a nice day, I'll walk a mile to Cafe Java. So I did and had a nice soft taco dish there. It was packed but since I was by myself I asked if I could take the free seat at the counter. Dude acted like it was a real problem but I think he was joking. Was not particularly fond of where we were seated. In the last corner table near the restroom; it was helpful to know that the door for restrooms led to a hallway. Opposite that door was an "Employees Only" door. Lots of action between both doors. They should not have sat me here! But someone had to be here... I ordered avocado grilled cheese-Swiss-American cheese with sliced avacado, tomato & sprouts, with side salad. My daughter and I wanted to try the pancake so we split one...pancake was excellent. I don't have wonderful things to say about the sandwich, and I will have to stand on this one from my mothers advise, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it". Great place! Found it on yelp and saw all the great reviews and thought I would give it a try. The Ultimate Migas are a must have. I would have liked the green peppers a little more sautéed, but other than that, they were delicious. I also ordered a pancake which was pretty good too. My friends ordered the omelette and loved it. The hash browns were cooked perfectly. They were perfectly cooked and the right amount of crispy. The whole lot of love latte was wonderful too. read more

So, I never wanted to become the type of person who only writes lengthy cautionary tales -PSA's warning of businesses who don't seem to particularly enjoy the business of actually being a business - so today I have the great pleasure of penning a tremendous review of one of our favorite local breakfast joints, Cafe Java. There are only 2 things that get my husband leaping out of bed with enthusiasm, an early morning bike ride to avoid the unforgiving Texas heat and Cafe Java, not necessarily in that order. I say "early morning" because this place gets packed after around 8:30 or so, but if you get there early, it's seat yourself! The food is great...always fresh and always fast. The barbacoa tacos are solid (when they are on the specials board) and when my carb allowance allows, the pancakes are yummy too! The service is friendly without being overly solicitous. They know who you are, but they don't insist on flaunting it. The owner runs both this location and the RR location, but I like to think he likes ours best because I see him there almost every time we make it out :P So give Cafe Java a shot if you are in the neighborhood. They are good peeps...oh, and I almost forgot...the "java" is AMAZING! You can't go wrong :) read more

Cafe Java is a quaint, loud, bustling coffee shop and is absolutely one of my favorite places to stop for lunch. This review is going to be pretty short since the menu is small and concise: easy rustic food that is simple and enjoyable. Enjoy a wide range of coffees, sandwiches and soups. My personal favorites are the grilled ham and cheese w/ potato salad or the soup du jour. Personally I prefer the soup du jour on almost any occasion because they are usually quite warm and filling (unless it's a cold soup that is, but mostly the soups here are served piping hot). The atmosphere is bustling and the cafe is usually quite busy. Not reservation busy, but you should certainly expect a few minutes in the lobby before getting a seat during the peak lunch period. The cafe is quite loud, servers and cooks talking across the bar and to customers. It's really nice actually. I enjoy hearing the cooks talk about their orders and a busy restaurant is usually a happy one. The service could use some work but overall this is a staple of my lunches in Austin. I love this cafe and will continue to be a repeat customer. Personal favorites: Grilled Ham & Cheese, Lentil Soup, Caramel Macciato or any of their expressos or latte's. It's not Starbucks but it's a very affordable quality cup of coffee served in glass to preserve the temperature. read more

Nice little place with a home cooking flare for sure. Coffee was the bomb! One iced caramel and another iced love with a pump of macchiato. I had the 2x2x2 which included pancakes eggs and bacon. The pancakes were fluffy but flavor could have been better. We also got the ribeye plate with eggs, hash browns, and biscuits and it was really good. Will definitely be back. Even if it's just for the coffee. Be prepared to have to wait... it gets busy... but that's cause the food is worth it. yummy read more

This is very close to my house and my husband and I always bring out of town visitors here! Everyone loves it. The coffee is strong, the service is fast, prices are great, food is delicious! I always get the eggs Benedict when it's on special. I'd give the Benedict a 4/5, I love Benedict for brunch, so I have high standards. Otherwise I get the java melt... ham, over easy egg, add avocado, everything bagel. This is AMAZING! So so good. My husband and I always split a pancake, bc their pancakes are so large and fluffy. This place is good! They have a bunch of different coffee options with a lot of different flavors. We got the iced caramel con panna and a pumpkin spice javaccino. I ended up getting the ultimate migas and it was good, but if you don't like peppers and onions I might get the regular migas. The hash browns are super crispy, which I like. I will say that this place has progressively gotten better and better in the past few years. Their hashbrowns rival that of Waffle House! Super crispy and brown, all ready for my ketchup. The servings are huge (I usually take 1/2 home) and everything is priced well. Do check the chalkboard wall for daily specials (Hill Country Breakfast = biscuits and gravy). I find that the best time to go on a weekend is right before Noon. The morning crowd is slowly dissipating and you can get a table fairly quickly, although, even during peak times, it usually runs around 20 minutes for a table. read more

It's got kitschy art everywhere, the place looks a bit old inside, and it always looks like the line is going to take two hours. Don't believe the lies! This place makes good, basic, epic brunch items, and you never wait more than a half hour. Do you have kids? This is your spot. Don't have kids but find baby watching endlessly entertaining? This is your place. Friendly, family owned staff? Also your place. I only have a few bones because they would make Cafe Java perfection. 1) Canned fruit in their fruit bowls. Why not just switch to seasonal?? Would it kill ya? Canned peaches and pineapple... Ugh. 2) Greasy bacon. It's just kind of slimy. But the sausage is incredible. 3) Sometimes hit or miss with the service. Last time our waiter was more concerned with flirting with the table next to ours than bringing us the things we asked him for three or four times. That being said- we always end up enjoying our food. Boyfriend adores their sausage gravy and biscuits and country omelette. Visiting from Houston and wanted a good breakfast. It was packed. We were in a little hurry so we ordered our food to go. The customer service was awesome. It seems family owned and they treat you like family. I had the country omelet. The hashbrowns are amazzziinngg! My friend had the special which was biscuits and gravy. She loved them as well. The drinks are good as well. I had a chai latte (a little on the milky side but we aren't in Europe). My friend had the cafe con panna which was basically a vanilla latte with caramel. What's not to love about Café Java? Their breakfast is amazing. The pancakes are to die for. The hash-browns are always cooked to a perfect crisp, and my coffee is always hot and refilled. Let's not even discuss how amazing the mouth watering omelets are okay? The only downside to this place is that the building is too small to handle the demand on the weekends and there is always a wait for a table. Since they no longer let you call ahead to put your name on the list expect a 20-30 minute wait on the weekend mornings. Café Java is a family owned restaurant that prides itself on taking good care of its customers and the loyalty shows both ways. I have been coming here for years and couldn't be happier to be living close enough again to once again enjoy one of my favorite Austin coffee shops. PROS: Pancakes, Eggs, Toast, Sausage, Coffee and did I mention Pancakes? They have whole coffee beans and bottles of flavor syrup for sale. They are right beside the ACC campus on Metric CONS: Wait time on the weekends and mornings RECOMMENDATION: Try the 2x2x2 plate for 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, and 2 pancakes (buttermilk!)
