Cafe Flora is such a vibe! I'm not vegetarian so I have never really been drawn to come here, but I'm glad that I did. I was meeting up for drinks with a friend before an event nearby and not many other places were open, but Cafe Flora was (and has drinks) so we decided to stop in. It is SO CUTE in there!! You walk in and you're greeted by so many bright colors and fun floral patterns on the walls so I immediately was happy to be here. My friend had already snagged a table and I was pleasantly surprised to see how bright and airy the space is! Lots of natural lighting and windows and the most serene rock structure/waterfall in the middle of the room. It was so relaxing and comforting in there! They have a solid drink selection with strong cocktails which is always a plus. I didn't try any of the food this time around, but there were quite a few things that sounded pretty intriguing and would give a try as a non-vegetarian! Service was friendly the entire time too. This place is amazing! The food was phenomenal and we thoroughly enjoyed all of the autumnal features we had! The entire staff was friendly and attentive. We ate in the atrium which was absolutely adorable, cozy, and beautiful. We started with the LATE HARVEST SPREADS which was a perfect trio of almond romesco, pickled beet kvass lebna, and sweet potato hummus served with grilled sourdough slices. All three spreads were amazing. The almond times I had a slight spice and a nice charred earthy taste. The beet lebna was like a sweet cucumber relish and totally delish! The sweet potato hummus had excellent flavors but could have been a little creamier. The PUMPKIN CANNELLONI stuffed with four cheeses, oyster mushrooms, leeks, walnuts in a white wine, pumpkin bechamel sauce with roasted delicata squash was out of this world! I've been going for 10~ years, and I feel that while they're getting more interesting and experimental in recipes, it's not always paying off, and the quality of standard dishes has started to take a cut (specifically in the scrambles). Tried the mochi beignets and they were awful in texture and taste. Tried the scallion potato waffle and there was really just something missing to balance it. We came in for dinner last night to celebrate my birthday. I was super excited to come to Cafe Flora as it has been on my radar for a long time. Our experience was incredibly disappointing. We sat for a while before our waiter took our drink order - we were waiting for our kids so I can understand maybe he thought we didn't want anything just yet. Once the rest of our table arrived, it took at least 10 more minutes to get their drink order. We put in our food order at the same time. It came out staggered. My dinner and 2 of our kids received theirs 5-7 minutes before the rest of the table so ours was getting cold. The pizzas were good as was the black bean burger. The mushroom french dip and the waffle were not. THey were poor quality for a restaurant specializing in vegetarian food. The onion rings on my waffle were terrible and over cooked. Our waiter never checked in with us during our meal. We had to ask someone to pay our bill. I had such high expectations for Cafe Flora. I really thought I was going to be blown away by the food and service. Sadly, I was not. The meal was not cheap and we knew that going into it, but for what we got we feel really disappointed. Cafe Flora has got to be one of the most beautiful cafes I've ever been to with its aesthetic and food offerings. My plant based heart was full and ready to try all the different options they offered. A group of us came on a weeknight and were seated outside in their patio outdoor (but enclosed) patio. It was the first day of their spring menu and they encouraged us to order items to share for the table; an easy task for an Asian like myself. We went with a few amazing starters- their spread sampler served with sourdough had some of the best homemade dips ever especially their Spring Pea Hummus, the yam fries with house aioli was fire, and the spinach artichoke dip was some of the best I've had. All vegan and all amazing. The entrees though were a bit more mixed for me. The Strawberry Watercress Salad was refreshing but didn't excite me as much as I had hoped, the Risotto was a bit on the saltier side and was only half the bowl, and Fried Trumpet Mushroom over Potato Waffle had a great waffle but the mushrooms weren't as kickass as I've had at other vegan restaurants. Plus I felt it was a bit pricer for the amount of food we got in general. We ended our dinner with their Chocolate Cake with Coconut Based Vanilla Ice Cream, which came in small bite sized brownies that were probably sitting in the fridge for too long lol. I hate to not be able to give this place more stars because I love the premise, and it's an adorable location with a great setting (tons of indoor seating and a nice outdoor patio) and decor. But on my second time here (this time for brunch), I found the food only okay especially for the price. We tried the southern platter and the Rancho Colorado scramble. The garlicky greens were un unremarkable, and the mushroom gravy on top of the buttermilk biscuit was pretty salty. On the Rancho Colorado scramble, the tofu didn't seem all that seasoned - it was improved by their ketchup and hot sauce, which I think might be homemade? The potatoes were nicely seasoned, but were really inconsistently cooked - some were great and some were harder or less crispy. The dishes cost just under $20 each and the portions didn't feel worth that. I so appreciate their dietary flexibility, but think I'll be seeking other options in the future. read more

We went for brunch on a Saturday and it was pretty busy, 25 minute wait. The food was really good, drinks were also good but a little pricey. Like $16 for a small mimosa. On the brunch menu, everything was between $16-25. It was all so delicious though. The ambiance is super cute and perfect for a girls brunch. As a first time visitor I was quite surprised. The food was delicious! Makes my switch to plant based diet so much easier. For breakfast had the rosemary biscuits with mushroom gravy. What a delightful and dillyicious twist to this old breakfast classic. For lunch I had the Rancho Colorado Scramble was oh so savory that I ordered the Asparagus & Nettle Pesto to go for dinner. I've come here now twice for their special tea experiences (spring and Halloween), once for brunch, and twice for dinner and all of my experiences have been solid. Service is very friendly, and I love their queer/trans/nonbinary inclusivity in their bathroom signage. The best thing is that they have a large outdoor area which is both lovely and warm (lots of heat lamps). The parking lot is tiny, but it's not too hard to find street parking nearby. The food is always very good and feels relatively healthy (lots of veggies) while also being tasty. Portions are big. Their teas are fun, but a little pricey. I like the mix of sweet and savory items. I love the drinks! Cocktails, "elixirs" (not alcoholic), and warm drinks are all creative and well balanced. Honestly, sometimes I think about coming here just for the drinks. My only comment for others is that the fan favorite cinnamon roll / bun is... okay. It's nothing to write home about. What a beautiful cafe with delicious options! Came here on a Sunday morning at opening time and it wasn't too crowded. They have a little parking lot on the side. Service was very warm and friendly. We were seated in their greenhouse looking room and it was so pretty! Love the atmosphere here! We started our morning with the golden milk latte and the passion fruit nog. Both tasty. Hmm, this visit was questionable. I think the main thing that stood out was how long service took - we were seated for at least an hour, which was strange especially because there were empty tables around us and there was a waiting list. It was also somewhat offputting to hear the table behind us seemingly complaining of a wrong order. Of what I ended up getting, I would say the kimchi burger was the most unique and delivered on the fermented flavor profile. I liked the tofu scramble I got, but it is easily something I can create at home more to my taste and with more flavor. Everyone seems to love Cafe Flora but I felt that our experience was pretty average. The place is super cute and we were able to snag a table right away even though it was a Saturday morning. Service was good. The part that was a bit disappointing was the food. I got the Roasted Potato & Scallion Belgian Waffle which I was excited about because you don't typically see a savory waffle as an option. However, it was undercooked and quite mushy. Unfortunately, I couldn't get over the texture and could barely eat half of it. We also got the mochi beignets but the oil must have been too hot because our beignets, even though they aren't your typical ones, were more similar to small dark disks that were very dense and sitting in oil too hot that they needed to probably remove sooner than expected to prevent burning. The table behind us also got beignets after us and theirs looked much nicer looking. Coffee also wasn't too good - very acidic. To know you can come here and get classics that you can't always as a vegetarian is really nice - it will cost you though as it is a bit expensive (particularly a nice morning beverage $15 for a mimosa whew, that apple cider one though is tasty). The service is always good and the staff is friendly but it is extremely hard to get into. They do not take reservations and you can expect to wait an hour or so on the weekend for a spot. You can wander the few street shops though for awhile. It is also quite loud when you enter and if you get the chance to be seated outside in the garden the space is beautiful but you might get an uneven table. Love the idea of a completely plant-based dining experience, especially with a wide menu and different flavor profiles. I was happy when my bestie booked this for my palette pleasure - even though the other 3 were carnivores. Everyone enjoyed the appetizers - artichoke dip was excellent, Brussels sprouts were good, the cauliflower was cooked well but a strong flavor choice with Dijon mustard dressing and the kale salad was blanched and delicious. Our entrees were a bit disappointing - at least mine was. Requesting the burger as gluten-free actually made it into a pita wrapped gyro and the flavors got totally lost. The pita itself tasted undercooked and doughy. The risotto was the one entree hit at the table and the sweet potato fries were yummy. Service was lackluster - probably she was overwhelmed though the restaurant was about half full. She got the wrong order and was visibly frustrated when we mentioned that. We recently went to the Halloween High Tea, and I fell in love. They had the place decorated for a spooky ambiance but not over done. The staff was super friendly and explained everything, as it was our first High Tea there. The tea is excellent sourced from Portland. The food items were so clever arranged from savory to sweet. They had gougeres with eyes, candy corn scone, and ghost merengues just to name a few of the times. The rose cardamom latte was my most favorite! The grapefruit mimosa was okay. They have quite an extensive menu for drinks. The Asian garlic noodle bowl was absolutely delicious and very light on the stomach. The biscuits and gravy although good, but not my thing, kinda heavy. I'd rather order the biscuit with jam. My first experience here. Our server was perfect. However, the 2 eggs were covered with puddles of yellow oil (not butter), the buttermilk biscuits were very hard and dry - with not nearly enough gravy to cover them. The cinnamon roll ($12) was also very hard and dry. The only thing I enjoyed was the garlicky greens. My friend's pancakes were also dry - and they were provided with only half a miniature pitcher of syrup, which barely covered one pancake (of the 3). Just my annual Cafe Flora appreciation review They continue to make fantastic food and are the first place I take my friends visiting from out of town. Love love love Cafe Flora forever and ever!! On the latest visit, I finally tried something new (so I love the southern platter with biscuits and gravy, sue me!!!) -- the tofu scramble with summer corn, zucchini, and tomatoes was fantastic. A perfect seasonal dish to wrap up summer with! We also had to try the late summer peach crisp, which was excellent. I always love to get donut peaches from Collins Family Orchard at the farmers market, so I knew I had to see what Cafe Flora could transform them into. As usual, it was a busy day, so expect at least a 20 minute wait, but it's always worth it! And now that the Rapid Ride G Line is open, Madison Street is so much more delightful to walk around and explore, so make sure to take your time and visit some of the other small businesses in the area. read more

I came here for brunch on a Wednesday morning with two friends, and there was no wait. The restaurant is actually pretty big - there's like three separate dining areas.. BUT I wouldn't be surprised if there's a wait on weekends since they don't take reservations. In case you didn't already know, Cafe Flora is a vegetarian restaurant! The menu has a good variety though so you wouldn't really know.. unless you already knew ;) I tried the Rancho Colorado scramble with tofu and grits and it was pretty good! The scramble was really flavorful and I enjoyed the grits instead of the more common side of potatoes. My friends tried the strata and the Southern Platter and they were both happy with what they got too. As for parking, there's a tiny lot, otherwise there's a good amount of free street neighborhood parking all around.
