So I was planning to hike up the hill to Upper Queen Anne for lunch but decided to try Cashew Thai instead. I was the only customer as I know that lunch business is normally like this on the weekdays on this block. Since I am familiar with Thai cuisine I ordered my fav noodle dish of Pad Kee Mao with pork. Being from the Bay Area I'm used to ground pork for this dish and was surprised that it was pieces of pork which were drier than what I would normally have if it was ground. I ordered the Udon Kee Mao for delivery, and it didn't ask for spice level, so I added a request for it to be extra spicy. I guess their food comes mild, and the don't do spice levels, because the noodles had no spice and it came with a tiny amount of chili oil on the side. I did need to add more of my own chili oil to make it better. It wasn't too bad. The noodles were a bit too mushy, maybe a little overcooked? I wouldn't order it again, but maybe I'll give the place another chance and try something else. read more

This is a little hole in the wall Thai that was good portion size, cheap cocktails, and serves up good flavor. We went here before a show at the Rep but due to traffic we were running *really* late. They got us in, got us our food, and got us out with plenty of time. I love how they serve their curries with the bowl over a small flame to keep it warm. We did go in late but i wasn't too impressed. The pad thai was mediocre and the service is what i really didn't love. We must've been seated for 15 minutes before anyone even came up to us. I hate that. I'm pretty understanding and if someone would have just greeted us and said hey, we are really busy(which they weren't all that busy), i would have been less frustrated. But they just let us sit there for what seemed like a super long time. I was about to get up and leave when they did come to our table and took our order. Remarkably good, considering I was a little bit hesitant at first. I was on vacation with my family and this restaurant was nearby so we tried it out. First red flag was when we walked in, it was a ghost town. Literally no other customers. Then our original waiter/host was a youngish white dude, and then I saw a Hispanic lady walk out the kitchen. I'm not racist, but when I go to a mom and pop Thai place, I kinda expect Thai people... Then the guy takes our orders and doesn't know what a draft beer means. what? so I wasn't really getting my hopes up here. My family ordered all different dishes: Pad Thai, Larb salad, Spicy Eggplant, Prik Khing (my order), some salmon thing, and the kids got fried rice and pad see ew. ... and everything was terrific. Really, really good. All the dishes had very nice presentations as well. My prik Khing in particular was one of the better ones I've had - just the right amount of spice. If I had to nitpick, I'd say they were a little cheap on the chicken, but the dish itself was on point. My girlfriend ordered the spicy eggplant and she raved about it. She was initially hesitant about ordering it because she's tried eggplant dishes like this at other restaurants, and they're usually not great - either the sauce is no good, or the eggplant itself is not cooked right, or the eggplant skin is too tough and chewy, etc etc. But this one was really good - the eggplant had sort of a hint of Indian curry kind of taste, and it was very tender. Almost had the texture and consistency of a sweet potato? She finished her whole dish, which was how I knew she really enjoyed it. The rest of my family really liked their dishes as well. The Pad Thai was a huge portion too! On top of that, the prices were quite reasonable, and there were nice touches like lemon in the ice water they gave us. The service was good and I think they were understaffed so I appreciated that they seemed to have only one server and she still checked on me and got things to me quickly even though the place was decently busy. The inside is kinda cozy and looks like maybe they repurposed a bar into a restaurant. The Thai tea and the spring rolls were very tasty. The spicy vegan soup was just ok. I wish it had had more seasoning or veggies in it. The portions were very generous though. I had lots of tofu and noodles and green onions but no other veggies or spices. The chili oil was fine and it wasn't too too spicy for most folks I'd say. I'd like to come back and try the fried rice perhaps. read more

This place had excellent food! Also, if you're going to a movie at SIFF, it's just 2 doors down. (It's also pretty convenient for Climate Pledge too, if you're doing a concert there.) I saw 2 movies last week, and after going to Cashew Thai before one of them, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go again! The common dish in both visits was the green curry, the first time with chicken, the second with tofu. Both times it was excellent. The dish has eggplant in it, which I generally try to avoid, but it was so sweet and tender. Really complemented the meat and tofu, and the curry too. On the first visit, we ordered the Salmon Sake Onions: Salmon seared in sake and topped with thinly sliced onions. Delectable! We also ordered Pad See Ew on the 2nd visit. I'm not as big of a fan of this dish, but my date really liked it. For appetizers on the 2nd visit, we ordered the Flower Cups, crispy pastry cups filled with vegetables. Interesting idea, and enjoyable, but I think I would've been happy with Spring Rolls. The Roti Masala appetizer, which we ordered on the first visit, is novel and quite tasty. The restaurant quite happy accommodating dietary restrictions, and the 2nd visit was vegan. Don't be afraid to ask. The place was nearly empty on the first visit (Tuesday night), and then half full on Friday night. Both times the service was excellent. I'm going again. Given how much I like seeing shows at SIFF, I can imagine I'll be going to Cashew Thai as frequently as well! read more

Unassuming exterior hiding the best Thai food I've had in the city! Short ribs were tender without being fatty. Pineapple was fresh and the rice perfectly cooked. I had no idea their food was this good. All these years I've driven past and even ordered from the places next door, but never here. I'm officially hooked. The flavors and textures are all spot on, but not consistent. Ever since my first order the spice levels and sweetness have been all over the place. Regardless it's always still yummy. Their workers are also inconsistent but not in a bad way. Just different experiences. There's this one lady that just gets it. Always thinking about the customer and making sure I have lol the utensils and sauces that make sense... the key being makes sense. I swear this is very rare for people handing off to go orders, but I just know when she is there my dining experience will be top notch. The other workers aren't bad, she's just miles ahead of the rest, including other restaurants. It's like she just knows. I really appreciate how clean their interior is. Very inviting for date night. We were immediately seated, but just shortly after that it became quite busy! Despite the serves having their hands full, they took our orders and we received our food relatively quick. We ordered the tom yum soup (small), katsu chicken with red curry, and pad see ew. Everything was delicious. I would have to say the red curry was the star of the show. It had a nice kick (the menu tells you what is spicy and what's not-- I appreciate when they say something is spicy, it actually is! Nothing too unbearable though).The flavors were deep and complex which paired great with the crispy katsu and fresh bed of rice. The pad see ew was also tasty. It had a great smokey flavor I enjoyed. We came here on a Wednesday at noon and there weren't a lot of people, only a few tables occupied. We got seated quickly and ordered our food. I got the lunch tom kha combo with pad see ew and it was delicious! The portion is bigger than a normal lunch portion. The pad see ew tasted sweet and authentic, while the tom kha was more of a sour curry which I did not prefer, but still had a smooth and silky taste. My friend got the pad thai which she said was a little sour than she would like, but i still thought it was decent. Good food and a neighborhood mainstay. I had the Volcano Basil; finally, someone understands spicy. A nice burn and loaded with veggies. The sauce-to-veggie ratio was somewhat light though overall very tasty. I had dinner with a friend who ordered the spring rolls. He thought he was ordering the freshly wrapped, not fried version. When they came to the table he asked and was told this was all they had. It would have helped if the waitstaff had qualified for that. Who is giving such great reviews here?? We had made reservations as we had a show at CPA. Thankfully we allowed for 90 minutes before the show because they needed it. No one came to our table for 20 minutes. When they took our drink order, those took another 20 minutes to arrive. They were out of the only thing I wanted on the menu. The food took another 30 minutes with only 2 out of the 4 guests food arriving. Another 15 minutes our 2 orders arrived but my order was wrong.
