We're visiting Seattle for a few days and staying at the Maxwell Hotel, so Basilic ended up being an easy walk from where we are staying. The good reviews and location were the two reasons we decided to try it. Would I go back? No. And not because we're not local. Nothing about the experience felt especially "signature." We ordered the Pad See Iew and Crispy Garlic Chicken (served with rice). The chicken dish was the better of the two, which surprised me because Pad See Iew is usually my go-to. I asked if they had Chinese broccoli, which is pretty standard and gives the dish more character, but they didn't . We ordered a level 2 spice, and the heat was definitely there, which is a good thing! The biggest downside was the service. There was only one person working, handling both dine in tables and a steady stream of to-go orders. It was clear customers were frustrated with the lack of attentiveness. Overall, not a terrible experience, but not a memorable one either. read more

We walked into the restaurant and waited a few minutes to be sat. There was only one worker up front, running tables, food, and seating. The worker was nice, and after we were sat, took our order pretty quickly. We knew we wanted to try the crispy garlic chicken. So we got that, plus Beef Pad See Iew. The food came pretty quick, it was nice and hot. The Beef Pad See Iew had a decent flavor to it, but not out of this world. We ordered level 2 spicy, and it seemed like they might have forgotten, which I didn't complain about! The crispy garlic chicken was nice and crispy, but the garlic flavoring was a little lacking. Small place near Seattle Center. My partner and I came here after the No Kings protest and were able to be seated pretty quickly for it being so busy. The restaurant is small but busy. The prices are very reasonable for Seattle. We plan to come again soon and try the duck curry and pad Thai next. I was staying at the Maxwell and one of the nights I needed to get a little more food. I heard people raving about the Thai place right next to the Maxwell so I figured I might as well order from there. It was a short walk to the restaurant and after walking up a flight of stairs there was a restaurant entrance to the left and a little more in, a take out ordering window. I ordered my usual which is vegetarian green curry and tofu. The lady was really nice and asked why I didn't sit inside. I said I was just taking out and next time I would eat inside. She said, ok 25 minutes, leave and come back hahahaha. OK so I left. 25 mins later I picked up my food. Went back to the Maxwell and had a tasty green curry. It was great but IMO a little sweet. Just got take out. Every single thing we got was a 12/10. Thai heaven! Piping hot, delicious, friendly service! I'm sad I'm not a local! We ordered level 1's and 2's for spice as it was our first time here and wanted to make sure we could eat it incase it was on the spicier side. It definitely was for us. We can handle a decent amount of spice. It was on the spicier end, but in an enjoyable way. Pad Thai was flavorful and chewy, veggie rolls were a fresh break and the peanut sauce was divine. The yellow curry was beyond delicious. Sweet. Savory. Deep flavor. I think that was my personal fave. I can't wait to have it for breakfast. My child isn't usually a Thai fan but this turned him into one. He loved everything we ordered. I got him yakisoba noodles to be safe, but he ate lots of everything. I can't rave enough. This Thai restaurant is walking distance from the Seattle Center MPOP and main Children's Playground. Parking around Seattle Center could cost $20-$35 for an all-day pass in one of the nearby garages or above-ground lots. Usually you don't get in-and-out privileges. So it's important to identify food options in the vicinity. We did not know the nearby Armory inside the Seattle Center has a big food court. The restaurant requires some stairs and it has an unusual layout with bathrooms near the front and main dining room on the side. There was just one waitress/host so service is a bit less attentive though friendly. The food itself is okay. The best dish was the Chicken Satay, with moist and juicy meat. The other dishes had some minor dings: 1. Tom Yum soup had great coconut flavors with basil and galangal but the chicken was way too dry. Dark meat seems to work better here I think. 2. Thai BBQ had good flavors but the texture could have been more tender 3. Shrimp Pad Thai was way too sweet I think, though my parents liked it. read more

My son and I met for an early dinner here before taking in the John Cleese show at McCaw Hall and thought it was a great way to start the evening. We arrived earlier than usual for us -- about 5:30 -- and it was a good thing. We were one of only a few occupied tables, but that was about to change quickly. The one server on duty was quick to bring water and menus and take our drink and appetizer orders (Thai iced coffee and fresh rolls with prawns and Thai peanut sauce). By the time we got around to ordering our entrees, I could tell the kitchen was getting "in the weeds" quickly. I chose Panang Curry with Chicken while my son opted for Nam Tok Beef -- grilled flat iron steak with a sauce that I'd describe as a Thai chimichurri. My dish arrived first, so we tucked in family-style, sharing what was on the table and the moment, then sharing the beef when it arrived several minutes later. Both were delicious and, at two stars, just the right level of heat for us. By this time, the place was packed and the server was literally running to keep up, but she was very attentive despite the challenges. Don't know whether it's a family-run place and there is no one else or another server called off, but she was great. Also did a good job of communicating, though she was soft-spoken and the place was getting fairly loud. I've had this Thai restaurant bookmarked for a while and was finally in the Queen Anne neighborhood to give it a try at last. I was not disappointed in the slightest and enjoyed my meal here very much! I also felt that the prices were very reasonable. After some pondering I decided to go with a favorite Thai dish of mine, the Pad Kee Mao. The dish was wonderful and I picked just the right spice level for it, a three! Ingredients were fresh and very flavorful. A really satisfying meal! To end the meal I got some very tasty Black Sticky Rice for dessert. We stayed at the Maxwell the night before our Alaska Cruise. This wonderful restaurant was right across the street and we thought we'd give it a try. We were a group of 5, I'd say the restaurant was moderately busy as it was a Sunday evening. One waitress was running the whole darn show and man did she work her butt off. She was so kind and sweet, one of the people in our party dropped their cell phone in the water and we asked for some uncooked rice to dry the phone out. Our waitress was so accommodating and sweet. Her willingness to help, go above and beyond was heart warming. Now to the food.....not a complaint to be had. Authentic Thai food, we all walked away full and for the 5 of us the bill was under $100. We will most likely cruise out of Alaska again, and I know for certain we will be eating here. They have cute booths right by the windows so you can look out and do some people watching. At first, I wasn't sure I was even going to be seated. I waited for about 10 minutes before peeking my head around the corner and trying to get someone's attention. It was strange because there was only one table occupied in the entire restaurant. I suppose they couldn't hear me because the place is so big? It was a strange way to start off my meal...I even considered calling them on the phone because I wasn't sure what else to do. Finally, the hostess came and met me at the entrance. She was very friendly and told me to pick wherever I wanted to sit, and then brought me ice water and menus. I usually go for Pad See Ew but decided I wanted a rice dish instead. I ended up getting Pineapple Fried Rice with tofu, and a coconut juice (we love our electrolytes). The fried rice was AMAZING and quite honestly the best one I've ever had. The sweetness of the pineapple was perfect, the tofu was plentiful, veggies were present, and the rice was nicely done. My bill came out to under $20 for what I considered very fair portions. Treated myself over New Years to some Thai food - now that I live alone and can't go back to family for a traditional elegant New Years meal (cause covid situation). This was one of the many great choices I see in Doordash, and what was particularly appealing is the generous portions and not having to pay extra or order separately for rice. I got the Papaya salad - Laos style which has crab as well as the panang curry with beef. The papaya salad gives great source of vegetables, enough for 2 which seems to be intended as it was an entree in itself. The lettuce on the side gives some padding to balance out the strong flavors of the papaya salad, but not too much that would slump over the generous portion size of the papaya salad itself. I don't really know if I should be eating the crab including the shell since it is soft enough but it's not soft shell crab. I attempted to eat it whole for just a piece but I should look into that I also got the panang curry with beef, which is super rich and creamy. It's so good that the leftover curry I just eat it like soup! The only minor flaw is that the beef was a bit overcooked, but otherwise, the slight spiciness with a rich sauce made it super enjoyable and filling for a meal! One of the better Thai curry for sure. Enough for 2 meals perhaps, if you don't want to overeat. read more
