I was super excited to give this place a try as it has a very cute aesthetic and lots of gluten free options - count me in!! I love that the menu changes so it definitely gives us a reason to come back. We got the lavender late - my husband loved it and I thought it was alright, don't think I'd order it again. We got the mochi beignets, zucchini cornbread Belgian waffle, and the rancho Colorado scramble. The mochi beignets were phenomenal, I already told my husband I will be asking for him to grab them for me on the regular. The zucchini cornbread Belgian waffle was extremely original so points for that, but somehow the taste left me a little disappointed. The rancho Colorado scramble was also pretty good. Again, just not sure the price matches the taste for both products. $17 for some eggs, pinto beans, and strips of tortilla chips seems a liiiitle steep to me. I went here for brunch today. The wait was approximately 30 minutes and there are no reservations. Overall, I liked how the restaurant has cute vibes and plant decor. For food: we ordered maple lattes (I think this is seasonal) and Breakfast platter, frittata and potatoes, passion fruit pancake and sweet potato waffle. Maple latte: it tasted like maple and it has a nice salt creme to it. Not too sweet. Frittata is the winner of the meal! I liked how spongey the frittata was and the toppings on it. Breakfast platter is pretty standard breakfast meal! They have a pretty tasty scrambled eggs. Passion fruit pancake was super good! Loved the avocado toast that had beets on top. Cutting one star for the egg scramble - it was very bland. Also, not very happy with their tent seating at the back. It was not at all warm and had a strong smell of a gas leak. We ended up taking the seats in the tent because we had already waited for 40 mins and were starving. We stopped in on a Tuesday night for dinner. The space is lovely, and Logan was great - he told us the menu was new and explained the changes. I am gluten-free, and not only were many things naturally gluten-free, but most of the things that weren't could be prepared gluten-free with no upcharge (GF people know how big a deal this is). We had two apps (snap pea hummus and arancini) and two entrees (risotto and polenta), plus one cocktail (The Optimist) and a glass of wine). Everything was delicious. The snap pea hummus (with whipped garlic and a little snap pea tendrils salad) was amazing and unexpected, and the arancini with nettles was incredible. Entrees both were top-notch. Brunch this weekend was SO GOOD. From the staff being kind and welcoming, to an under 30 min wait time (at peak brunch hour on a Sunday), to the food and atmosphere here, I will absolutely be back! I ordered the lemon poppy pancakes with kumquat topping and a side of cheesy grits with a Smoked Maple Late. I would easily order this exact meal a second time! The late was fantastic, with a bit of salt on top that balanced the sweet perfectly. The pancakes and grits were both cooked well and had great flavors. Good recent visit to Cafe Flora. I had the Flora Grain Bowl which was super delicious, and a glass of perfectly chilled rose. It's a really pleasant space to have a good meal and catch up with old friends. I guess others have noted that the servers can be a bit surly and we certainly experienced some of that but whatever. It didn't really take away too much from the overall experience and I would definitely go back on the next visit to Seattle. read more

The biscuits were really good, packed with flavor. The salsa and ketchup were great compliments to the potatoes. But the tofu scramble wasn't special.. I really had to mix it into the gravy for me to even want to eat it. The potatoes were good, usually I have to add salt and pepper, but they were seasoned nicely (and the salsa they had was great). My boyfriend got the waffle, which was gluten free and vegan, but he had mentioned he wished it had more of a crunch to it but I didn't try it. I originally had wanted to order the scramble, potatoes, and toast with jam. Unfortunately they didn't have toast and jam. That's when I decided to do the smaller order of biscuits in addition to the sides. It was quite filling for being a half order! I couldn't finish my sides after eating all the biscuits. I have a 4 star because I didn't care for the scramble and because my boyfriend got a $14 waffle that wasn't anything special. All in all it's a good spot to check out. The food is always very yummy, we used to get the bucket of sweet potato fries, I don't remember if that's still in the menu but it was good! There has usually been a line when we come and no parking in the lot but there's usually street parking within a couple blocks of the restaurant. On occasion the line has been too long so we'll go to Araya's across the street. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It's also very easy to make vegan substitutions. read more

Agreed that the atmosphere is great, I came on a Saturday early morning 10:30 am but even at that time it was already busy! As someone who a picky eater I had a hard time picking something I wanted cause I wanted French toast but they didn't have that... ended up with the Rancho Colorado Scramble - Egg but no cheese with potatoes. Polenta was mostly good but there was wayyyyy too much raw garlic in the dish. It was such a bummer because it made the dish very unpleasant to eat. I highly recommend Café Flora for delicious vegetarian food in a delightful, lovely setting. They are no longer serving my favorite (the breakfast quesadilla), but I always find something good on their menu. The service is also consistently very good. I am glad that they have bathrooms that are for all genders, but they need to redesign the stalls to provide more privacy. They still have those stalls that have big gaps between the doors and a big opening at the bottom of the stalls. You could potentially lock the door to the whole bathroom to have more privacy (there are signs saying that), but that doesn't work when there is already someone else using one of the stalls. I hope they will improve this soon. read more

Why did they change their signature dish?? I came in for the first time in a couple years and saw that my favorite dish - Portobello Wellington had changed. I wanted to give it a try anyway, and was so disappointed! The potatoes were runny (so runny they could slide off the plate) and weird tasting like artificial cheese sauce. The dish was missing any sauce or gravy - I didn't get a drop, and the veggies were overly charred.  Maybe it would have been better if the sauce wasn't missed, but I was really bummed out with the new change and won't be ordering again. Even though this is one of my favorite restaurants, my experience at Cafe Flora is always slightly short of 5 stars as a result of the service. There's a server who was new earlier this year, I believe, who is a little short of the warmer energy everyone exudes. There's been a couple of instances of being clearly ignored point-blank as well as very very hurried service with no eye contact and no introduction even when it is not that busy around the house. We once ordered the burrata special off the menu and was presented with brie or some other cheese without notice, and she left before we could even ask her about it. When we finally flagged her down, she said she didn't know anything about it and took awhile to ask the kitchen before coming back with the answer that their menu was seasonal and it had changed--why not change the seasonal menu then, or at least notify us beforehand? The food, however, is everything and more to me as a vegetarian and the rose cardamom latte (which I missed on the menu this December) was a favorite. They really do change up their menu a lot, which is nice, and they incorporate a lot of fun ingredients. I actually ran into the owner once at Flora Bakehouse on their patio opening day, and he was really kind, but the service is very 50/50, I'd say. read more

We were sat in the atrium indoor/outdoor seating spot which was so cute and they did a great job on COVID measures to make sure we ordered ahead of time and only took off masks once we sat at the table to eat. I had the black bean burger with sweet potato fries which was definitely super delicious! Super big portion and I struggled to finish it all. However, the super star of the evening was definitely the dessert. I ordered this dessert that was like an ice cream plum crumble, I think it may have had pears too? We were there on a Sunday evening and it was somewhat busy. Our server's disposition was both hot and cold. We ordered a wine that we mistook for a bubbly wine, but our server turned on us and grabbed the wine from the table very abruptly and made us wait while she got the menu for us to re check it. We never said we didn't want it and when we did go ahead and request that she bring our wine back, she got even more angry and said that they already dumped it. She stormed away. She almost spilled the new glasses of wine on us when she set them on the table and walked away. First rule of good customer service is patience. We were kind and she was not! She should have left the wine there before bringing us the menu to check it out. Especially since I said "it's really good!" before she even picked it up. Second rule of good customer service is "don't switch products on your customers and overcharge for the substitution". We ordered the artichoke dip and it came with not enough bread for the amount of dip we had been served. We asked for 2 more pieces and agreed to a serving of pita because they ran out of sourdough. Instead we got an overpriced, more than enough, serving of pita bread. NOT cool! We joked to ourselves that she might spit in our food. But as the restaurant emptied out, our server settled down. I have been a patron of this restaurant since the early nineties and always enjoyed celebrating special occasions here. Food is still good. The way we were treated gives us pause to go back. We tried to make the best of our outing, but why take a chance of being treated like that? Having been in the service industry, we did leave a 20% tip. read more

I almost don't want to share my review, because I don't want this place to become too popular! Cafe Flora is a vegetarian restaurant in Madison Park. Many of their dishes can be modified to be gluten free or vegan. I joined a friend for dinner at Cafe Flora on a weekday night. There was no wait to be seated and tables were adequately distanced. I appreciated that they checked everyone's vaccine cards at the door and all staff were masked (many double masked). This location is easy to find in Madison Park. There is ample free street parking. Now on to the food and drinks. The mulled wine was INCREDIBLE. Seriously, my favorite mulled wine in the city. Run to try it before it's out of season. My friend had the apple cider which was equally seasonal. My dinner was the butternut squash salad. It was somehow both light and incredibly filling. The warm winter flavors really shine. It even came with soft focaccia croutons which was a nice treat for someone who hates crunchy croutons. My friend had the Italian burger which also looked great. There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant and we were lucky to find parking. The food was sooo good! My favorite was the corn and tomato scramble with tofu and potatoes. I HAVE BEEN DYING TO TRY THIS PLACE! ....and it did NOT disappoint me. I was introduced to Cafe Flora by way of Floret at Sea-Tac while traveling for work. I had to go to the original location near/in Capital Hill area. Everything I had was soooo good! Roasted Brussel Sprouts, Ginger Lemonade, Black Bean Burger and Sweet Potato Fries. The dining areas are decorated with live foliage, beautiful wallpaper and wood floors/trim with beautiful windows all around. It feels cozy, like visiting a cabin in the woods cozy. The staff was friendly and very nice. Thank you Cafe Flora for such a great menu and food to match. Tip: Go after 5pm to order from the Dinner menu.
