Tried calling in a order on our way to Universal Studios, the message said they're busy and to leave a message. Just from reading the reviews, I was already aware of a long wait. It would have been helpful to call in the order since we were an hour out. So we get there, 1.20hr wait which wasn't going to work. So I placed a to-go order which we all basically ordered the 3 Simple and Sweet, and a concha order. The wait for the food I was told would be 20-25min. There's no parking, limited seats inside and even less seating outside. Overall I wasn't that impressed but it did fill out stomachs for a long fun day.

If a shop is called Cafe De Olla, you better deliver and meet the expectations and this place does just that. I first heard about this place years ago, made several attempts to go but didn't have the patience, the wait time and line were always long, they did not accept reservations. When I finally made it in, it was worth the wait A small and cozy restaurant, with a capacity to serve about 50 people between the inside and outside, Cafe De Olla serves up some of the most delicious traditional Mexican entrees and coffee around. Try the chilaquiles and cafe de olla coffee, it's a must. Free street parking, open for breakfast and lunch. Amazing!

Let's start this review with the parking situation. What's up with not having parking at a lot of restaurants? We pay an arm and a leg and they can't even provide parking? My friend and I went into this Cafe De Olla on the 17th of this month at 2pm. She met me there and lives in Burbank. I have been here once, I believe back in 2018. It was pretty solid in every way. We were warmly greeted by Erick--the host, standing by the podium and right away he got us a seat inside. After like 5 minutes, Elsa, our server approached us to take our order. My friend and I both felt like we were being rushed through our meal. Food came out hot and quick. We opted for a few of their dishes. Tacos Mananeros, came with 4 tacos ($18.95), with 4 complimentary sauces. 2 of the sauces were very spicy and Elsa didn't warn us. We also got the Veggie Omelette with tomatoes, onions, spinach, mushrooms, Jack cheese, topped with avocado and a side order of hash browns. They made the hash browns perfectly. Told her nice and crispy on the top and that's what we got. (18.95). We also shared their French Toast topped with Strawberry, Blueberries, and Blackberries. ($16.95) topped with lots of Whipped Cream (which I love) and a side of syrup. We needed to add more syrup to make the French Toast more moist. The French Toast was a bit dry for our liking. Even the people sitting next to us who ordered the same thing were saying the same. On the flip side, the other 2 dishes tasted fresh and delicious. Great portions for the prices. We also got this drink called Powerful from their smoothies section of the menu. It was called Green Smoothie. Ingredients were the following: blueberries, honey, Greek Vanilla yogurt, avocado and Almond milk. It was simply very refreshing and delicious. My friend wanted some sort of Latte, Espresso, Americano, etc..but they didn't have any of those drinks. All they had was regular & decaf coffee. At first, I asked for Cranberry juice, and Jose, said they only had Apple and Orange juice. We found it a bit odd not to have any of those drinks. Going back to our server Elsa, she was a bit aloof and forgetful. I asked for a bowl of fruit, and it never made it to our table. After we were done eating, I asked for two to-go boxes and a bag, she forgot that too. We had to ask the other employees to get them for us. The same with to-go containers for our sauces. She forgot to bring napkins too. Jose, (our busboy), needs a raise and promotion! This young man read all the ingredients on the Taco menu which came with: bacon & egg, chorizo with potato & eggs, machaka/eggs, & nopaitos/eggs. The writing in their menu was very small. Another server by the name of Angel, truly was an angel. Checked on us while Elsa was taking orders over the phone. They have another location in Monrovia, a gender neutral restroom, place was very clean. Inside was small. It had 10 tables and nice couches with cozy, inspirational decor and pillows. Lovely music playing over head with a nice patio seating. Will I return? Yes, but not anytime soon! Also check for their business hours..

Nopalitos Con Huevo

Sooo yummy. My friend picked this place for their birthday brunch and the nopalitos were so good. I usually only get cactus at small markets and this was great. Their rice is so bomb I wish I had the recipe. Friendly servers. We sat inside because it was too hot and the space was nice albeit a little crowded. Plenty of street parking in the surrounding residential neighborhood.

Cafe de Olla is a small, cozy breakfast spot that gets busy for good reason. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and despite how popular the place can get, the service during my visit was friendly and attentive. If you come during peak breakfast hours, I would definitely expect a wait. I ordered the wheat pancakes with fruit and granola. I also ordered their basic breakfast, which includes three eggs, and I opted for fruit (although you can get home fries, hash browns, and other sides as well). The pancakes were warm and fluffy, and the fresh berries went really well with them. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were great, and the meal came out hot and nicely prepared. The eggs were prepped over medium, as requested. The eggs plus the fruit made for a quick and healthy breakfast, complemented perfectly by the pancakes. Overall, this was a great breakfast experience. Good food, great portions, welcoming service, and a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere. Parking and seating can be a little challenging because of the restaurant's size and popularity, but the food makes it well worth the visit. I'll definitely be back to try some of their Mexican breakfast dishes, especially the chilaquiles.

Now I know why this place always has a long wait. Hot tip: You can join the waitlist on Yelp before you get there! I came with a friend who is a regular and she gave me a lot of good recommendations of what to order. The menu is quite large, filled with tons of delicious Mexican breakfast options! I'm a big machaca fan, so that's what I ordered. As an appetizer, we got the molletitos with chorizo and OMG! It was absolutely delicious. I got to taste my friend's huevos divorciados and the sauce was so delicious. My machaca was different than what I have had at other restaurants, a little on the dry side, but I enjoyed it. Loved the rice and beans it came with! Another highlight was the Cafe de Olla itself! I think I downed like 4 cups of it, it was so delicious. Service here was fantastic. Highly recommend!

Cafe de olla

We come to Cafe de Olla every weekend and it's become our favorite breakfast spot. The food is always delicious and we honestly order the same thing every time: the chilaquiles and the concha French toast. And the café de olla is a MUST. The service is another reason we keep coming back. Jesus, Luis, Elsa, and Eric are all amazing. They're friendly, attentive, and always make us feel welcome. Elsa already knows our order, she's so awesome! A little tip: parking is street parking and I also recommend joining the waitlist through the Yelp app before arriving to make things easier. If you're looking for a great breakfast spot with delicious food, amazing coffee, and wonderful service, Cafe de Olla is it. We love this place and will keep coming back!

Iced Cafe de Olla Was empty during my meal, when I finished and no one ever came to check up on us if we needed any refills.
Luis P.

I got on the waitlist online around 10:15am. Said about 12-12:30pm I get it busy. Checked in around 12:15pm said 20 minute wait, cool. Took 45 min to sit us. Because I actually had to go ask again. How much longer. Then all of a sudden oh just ready in a min, when there was clearly 3 empty table for about 10 minutes. So got seated at 1pm from 10:15am reservation... 3hr wait um I don't think so. And then not once did they check up on us if we needed any refill or anything else.... Smh Food was ok, I ordered a simple burrito and eggs were a bit under cooked. Overall bad experience...

Cafe De Olla is a Burbank staple. I've been going to Cafe De Olla for quite some time now and they don't miss. Their food is amazing. I always get their Chilaquiles and Chocolate Chip Pancakes with an Iced Cafe De Olla. They have different sauces for their chilaquiles and each one is so good. The pancakes are always warm and fluffy. Service is top tier. Everyone is so welcoming and tries to accommodate you in a timely manner as they do get really busy. Ambiance is great. A cozy breakfast spot with seating inside and some outside. It's on the smaller side so it does get packed. I would recommend being there early. Overall , I'll always tell people to try Cafe De Olla if they haven't yet. It's that good and I'll always come back.

Maruko X.

Ambiance: it's a small and packed brunch place, located in Burbank, street parking only, limited indoor and outdoor seating, expect long waiting time around one hour during weekend perk hours Service: fairly slow, after seated, it took a long time to place order and receive food Food: numerous items on their menu, traditional breakfast and lunch, in both Mexican and American styles MACHACA BURRITO - **** Eggs, shredded beef, onion, tomato, jalapeño, rice, beans, and salsa, flavorful, recommend HUEVOS DIVORCIADOS - *** Two over medium eggs, one cover with red sauce, and another covered with green sauce, served cold and mushy texture CÁFE DE OLLA - *** traditional way of preparing coffee in Mexico, boiling cinnamon sticks, piloncillo spices and ground coffee, very unique flavor for people like cinnamon Price: moderate protons and reasonable prices, expect $25 per person

All right first of all let me just see we got there right on time we got served thankfully it was only two of us. We got seated right away. We stood outside sidewalk to which was nice surprisingly. I got my food and my boyfriend got his food it was really good actually I'm pretty sure I got the Chilaquiles, but I forgot the specific name. But who cares because it was delicious lol. As we waited to get her food, we saw the amount of people that came here to eat. Definitely worth it. Cute spot. We took some coffee to go. Definitely we will be back.:)

El Paisano Omelette

Decided to stop by here on a Saturday morning. This cafe has an option to get in line online before arriving so you don't have to wait as long which I like. It was busy but they move fast so we only waited about 20 min. Parking can be a little difficult as it's only street parking. I got the Paisano omlette, I loved how they added the salsa and cheese to imitate the Mexican flag! The omelette had shredded beef that was loaded with all the condiments inside. It is served with a side of hashbrowns that were cooked nice and crispy. I also got a side of pancakes that come with 2. They were cooked very fluffy and buttery. Overall I love coming to cafe de olla!

Eric G.

Normally not a fan of chilaquiles but their version is delicious. The tortilla chips still have a crunch and their poblano sauce is s tier. Rony helped us out with the recommendation since it was our first time. My girlfriend liked the first tamales. Their cafe de olla is also refreshing. We visited during the weekday and apparently this place is packed during the weekend. I get it. If you want good chilaquiles, try this place. The food is delicious and the service is great. Parking is free on the street.

Food is okay, but the experience of trying to get a table is ridiculous. The check in person Erick has consistently been rude and unhelpful.

Cafe De Olla Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Cafe De Olla

I see there is outdoor seating, so are they dog friendly?

We go there often, weekly for a late lunch and during the week it is mellow compared to a Sunday morning where everyone in Burbank wants a table:) I think they'd be fine with our four legged one as long as they are behaved and not bothering anyone.…

Can I place a to go order over the phone?

I believe so

How do I add myself to the waitlist?

Joining the waitlist on Yelp is an option through the app

Do they sell their coffee grounds? I would love to buy a bag and make it at home.

Unfortunately, no, they do not. But I wish they would 😍

Where can I park?

Plenty of street parking!

Would they be able to accommodate a party of 15 (I have big family )?

I don't think so; it's a small place

What time do you close the waitlist on Sunday?

I looked for waitlist from 9 am on and it never was available.

Why does the waitlist close sometimes, too busy?

Yes. It is a very small restaurant with maybe seating for 20 people. It's always packed. My rec is breakfast for dinner and go around 5pm. Or we will order to go and there's a cute neighborhood park literally around the corner and go eat there…

What time do they stop serving breakfast?

We server breakfast all day. Thanks for reaching out

Anyone know if they're open today New Year's Eve?

They are closed!

Is there any wait time in the late afternoon?

Depends on the day. You can check the waitlist on yelp.

Are dogs allowed for outdoor dining?

Yes, they have let me have my dog outside.

Do we have to be COVID vaccinated to be able to eat inside or outside?

Hi Kimberly, We are not, we do however require masks at all times when entering/exiting the restaurant and walking from your table.…

Is there patio dining or just the tables in the front?

A few Tables inside and out the front .. that's it

Does the Cafe have WIFI?

Yes

Is this restaurant open for outdoor dining?

The restaurants not open for outdoor dining, even though it offers you a time to join the waitlist, don't do it. They texted us once we arrived at the cafe that they were only doing takeout orders.

Is this place open for outdoor dining now?

Yep sure is

Is this location still open for dine in?

No.

Hi, I'm trying to go with a group of 4 Thursday morning for a birthday breakfast, are we able to make a reservation/is the wait that bad?

When your close Join the waiting list on Yelp ! Great place to eat!!!!…

Is this place doing dine in or take out only?

They offer outside sidewalk dining and take out

Employees were super friendly and we were excited that they were showing the telemundo World Cup coverage. The menu was great. We split the carnitas plate and got Long Island iced tea. The brought out complimentary chips and salsa as well. The salsa was so good! The carnitas plate was awesome. It came with rice and beans and plantains. It was perfect for us to split. If we were still hungry, we already had planned on ordering à la carte tacos, but the plate was perfect. We were pleased. The menu was great, food was good, drink was good, and we had a nice time! Food was beyond sub par you can make the food at home and would taste better! Save your money. Everything we had from two orders of "taquitos", "esquite", quesadillas and a blood orange mojito. The only thing with a bit of flavor was the esquite, but again to pay for roasted corn on the cob with just mayo and cheese? For $13 ? NEVER AGAIN. I have a problem with the way they name their items which is a bit misleading. For example, they have an item called taquitos, meaning you would expect a rolled fried taquitos. What came was tacos dorados so why is it named taquitos? They DID write on the menu that it's fried tacos..but again why are they not just calling it TACOS DORADOS? Same with esquite typically esquites are corn off the cob but this was on the COBB and yes it was described on the menu as on the Cobb but again why not call it ELOTE instead of esquite. Clearly this is semantics but just frustrating. If you want authentic Mexican food there is a Don Cuco's around the block that is WAY better than this place. They are at a different tier than this Kalavera's location. If you're a drinker perhaps that would make the food taste better...so disappointed and a waste of money!

What we got was an incredibly underwhelming, overpriced letdown from start to finish. The service was sluggish and merely mediocre, but the food was the real shock--it looked completely different from any photos on their menu or online. When our meals arrived, the portion sizes were almost comical. Each plate came with an astonishingly skimpy pile of maybe 10 to 15 tiny fries, and my burger was barely larger than a slider. My daughter's milk chocolate shake was served in a tiny 8-ounce plastic cup--not very 1950s diner-esque, to say the least. Even worse, my daughter's chicken sandwich looked so suspect that we had to conduct a detailed examination to ensure it wasn't raw or pink in the middle. The table itself was noticeably dirty and grimy, and the ketchup bottle on the table was downright gross. Believe it or not, the garlic wings were actually very good, but that was the sole bright spot in an otherwise sketchy meal. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but for these prices, that shouldn't matter. Save your time and money--think twice before coming here because we certainly won't be back. Also the prices on the menu are very inaccurate!
