Nopalitos Con Huevo
Destiny M.

Sooo yummy. My friend picked this place for their birthday brunch and the nopalitos were so good. I usually only get cactus at small markets and this was great. Their rice is so bomb I wish I had the recipe. Friendly servers. We sat inside because it was too hot and the space was nice albeit a little crowded. Plenty of street parking in the surrounding residential neighborhood.

If a shop is called Cafe De Olla, you better deliver and meet the expectations and this place does just that. I first heard about this place years ago, made several attempts to go but didn't have the patience, the wait time and line were always long, they did not accept reservations. When I finally made it in, it was worth the wait A small and cozy restaurant, with a capacity to serve about 50 people between the inside and outside, Cafe De Olla serves up some of the most delicious traditional Mexican entrees and coffee around. Try the chilaquiles and cafe de olla coffee, it's a must. Free street parking, open for breakfast and lunch. Amazing!

Let's start this review with the parking situation. What's up with not having parking at a lot of restaurants? We pay an arm and a leg and they can't even provide parking? My friend and I went into this Cafe De Olla on the 17th of this month at 2pm. She met me there and lives in Burbank. I have been here once, I believe back in 2018. It was pretty solid in every way. We were warmly greeted by Erick--the host, standing by the podium and right away he got us a seat inside. After like 5 minutes, Elsa, our server approached us to take our order. My friend and I both felt like we were being rushed through our meal. Food came out hot and quick. We opted for a few of their dishes. Tacos Mananeros, came with 4 tacos ($18.95), with 4 complimentary sauces. 2 of the sauces were very spicy and Elsa didn't warn us. We also got the Veggie Omelette with tomatoes, onions, spinach, mushrooms, Jack cheese, topped with avocado and a side order of hash browns. They made the hash browns perfectly. Told her nice and crispy on the top and that's what we got. (18.95). We also shared their French Toast topped with Strawberry, Blueberries, and Blackberries. ($16.95) topped with lots of Whipped Cream (which I love) and a side of syrup. We needed to add more syrup to make the French Toast more moist. The French Toast was a bit dry for our liking. Even the people sitting next to us who ordered the same thing were saying the same. On the flip side, the other 2 dishes tasted fresh and delicious. Great portions for the prices. We also got this drink called Powerful from their smoothies section of the menu. It was called Green Smoothie. Ingredients were the following: blueberries, honey, Greek Vanilla yogurt, avocado and Almond milk. It was simply very refreshing and delicious. My friend wanted some sort of Latte, Espresso, Americano, etc..but they didn't have any of those drinks. All they had was regular & decaf coffee. At first, I asked for Cranberry juice, and Jose, said they only had Apple and Orange juice. We found it a bit odd not to have any of those drinks. Going back to our server Elsa, she was a bit aloof and forgetful. I asked for a bowl of fruit, and it never made it to our table. After we were done eating, I asked for two to-go boxes and a bag, she forgot that too. We had to ask the other employees to get them for us. The same with to-go containers for our sauces. She forgot to bring napkins too. Jose, (our busboy), needs a raise and promotion! This young man read all the ingredients on the Taco menu which came with: bacon & egg, chorizo with potato & eggs, machaka/eggs, & nopaitos/eggs. The writing in their menu was very small. Another server by the name of Angel, truly was an angel. Checked on us while Elsa was taking orders over the phone. They have another location in Monrovia, a gender neutral restroom, place was very clean. Inside was small. It had 10 tables and nice couches with cozy, inspirational decor and pillows. Lovely music playing over head with a nice patio seating. Will I return? Yes, but not anytime soon! Also check for their business hours..

Cafe de Olla is a small, cozy breakfast spot that gets busy for good reason. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and despite how popular the place can get, the service during my visit was friendly and attentive. If you come during peak breakfast hours, I would definitely expect a wait. I ordered the wheat pancakes with fruit and granola. I also ordered their basic breakfast, which includes three eggs, and I opted for fruit (although you can get home fries, hash browns, and other sides as well). The pancakes were warm and fluffy, and the fresh berries went really well with them. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were great, and the meal came out hot and nicely prepared. The eggs were prepped over medium, as requested. The eggs plus the fruit made for a quick and healthy breakfast, complemented perfectly by the pancakes. Overall, this was a great breakfast experience. Good food, great portions, welcoming service, and a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere. Parking and seating can be a little challenging because of the restaurant's size and popularity, but the food makes it well worth the visit. I'll definitely be back to try some of their Mexican breakfast dishes, especially the chilaquiles.

Now I know why this place always has a long wait. Hot tip: You can join the waitlist on Yelp before you get there! I came with a friend who is a regular and she gave me a lot of good recommendations of what to order. The menu is quite large, filled with tons of delicious Mexican breakfast options! I'm a big machaca fan, so that's what I ordered. As an appetizer, we got the molletitos with chorizo and OMG! It was absolutely delicious. I got to taste my friend's huevos divorciados and the sauce was so delicious. My machaca was different than what I have had at other restaurants, a little on the dry side, but I enjoyed it. Loved the rice and beans it came with! Another highlight was the Cafe de Olla itself! I think I downed like 4 cups of it, it was so delicious. Service here was fantastic. Highly recommend!

Iced Cafe de Olla Was empty during my meal, when I finished and no one ever came to check up on us if we needed any refills.

I got on the waitlist online around 10:15am. Said about 12-12:30pm I get it busy. Checked in around 12:15pm said 20 minute wait, cool. Took 45 min to sit us. Because I actually had to go ask again. How much longer. Then all of a sudden oh just ready in a min, when there was clearly 3 empty table for about 10 minutes. So got seated at 1pm from 10:15am reservation... 3hr wait um I don't think so. And then not once did they check up on us if we needed any refill or anything else.... Smh Food was ok, I ordered a simple burrito and eggs were a bit under cooked. Overall bad experience...

Cafe De Olla is a Burbank staple. I've been going to Cafe De Olla for quite some time now and they don't miss. Their food is amazing. I always get their Chilaquiles and Chocolate Chip Pancakes with an Iced Cafe De Olla. They have different sauces for their chilaquiles and each one is so good. The pancakes are always warm and fluffy. Service is top tier. Everyone is so welcoming and tries to accommodate you in a timely manner as they do get really busy. Ambiance is great. A cozy breakfast spot with seating inside and some outside. It's on the smaller side so it does get packed. I would recommend being there early. Overall , I'll always tell people to try Cafe De Olla if they haven't yet. It's that good and I'll always come back.

All right first of all let me just see we got there right on time we got served thankfully it was only two of us. We got seated right away. We stood outside sidewalk to which was nice surprisingly. I got my food and my boyfriend got his food it was really good actually I'm pretty sure I got the Chilaquiles, but I forgot the specific name. But who cares because it was delicious lol. As we waited to get her food, we saw the amount of people that came here to eat. Definitely worth it. Cute spot. We took some coffee to go. Definitely we will be back.:)

Ambiance: it's a small and packed brunch place, located in Burbank, street parking only, limited indoor and outdoor seating, expect long waiting time around one hour during weekend perk hours Service: fairly slow, after seated, it took a long time to place order and receive food Food: numerous items on their menu, traditional breakfast and lunch, in both Mexican and American styles MACHACA BURRITO - **** Eggs, shredded beef, onion, tomato, jalapeño, rice, beans, and salsa, flavorful, recommend HUEVOS DIVORCIADOS - *** Two over medium eggs, one cover with red sauce, and another covered with green sauce, served cold and mushy texture CÁFE DE OLLA - *** traditional way of preparing coffee in Mexico, boiling cinnamon sticks, piloncillo spices and ground coffee, very unique flavor for people like cinnamon Price: moderate protons and reasonable prices, expect $25 per person

Decided to stop by here on a Saturday morning. This cafe has an option to get in line online before arriving so you don't have to wait as long which I like. It was busy but they move fast so we only waited about 20 min. Parking can be a little difficult as it's only street parking. I got the Paisano omlette, I loved how they added the salsa and cheese to imitate the Mexican flag! The omelette had shredded beef that was loaded with all the condiments inside. It is served with a side of hashbrowns that were cooked nice and crispy. I also got a side of pancakes that come with 2. They were cooked very fluffy and buttery. Overall I love coming to cafe de olla!

Bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns. Banana peanut butter French Toast. Suizos Chilaquiles. Pancakes.

Stopped by to get breakfast. We could tell it was busy and there were a few people waiting outside. We were only a party of 3 so we weren't trying to wait too long..We asked them how long the wait would be, they told us 20 minutes and put us on the list. We waited 45 and right before we went to walk away they hurried and got us a table inside. The pancakes were bland and dense. Everything was pretty subpar.. The Chilaquiles were the only thing that were good. The place is small and quaint. I really wanted to like it. But I couldn't finish my food.

Chel S.

Waited about an hour on the waitlist on a Tuesday morning, so definitely expect a wait during busy hours. I ordered the chorizo plate, which was decent but nothing particularly special. I had ordered corn tortillas but was given flour instead; thankfully, they were really good, so I wasn't too upset about it. I also tried the Del Rey Special with machaca and chilaquiles, and this was definitely the highlight of my meal. I loved that the entomatada chilaquiles actually had some heat to them! A lot of places claim something is spicy and it ends up being pretty mild, so I appreciated that these actually delivered. The machaca was flavorful and the overall combination was great. One thing I will add is that the food was entirely too salty, but still good. I also ordered an iced café de olla, which I enjoyed, but I found the pricing a little odd. The iced version costs more despite essentially being the same drink with ice, while the hot café de olla comes with refills and the iced one does not. Service was okay, nothing particularly memorable, but no major complaints either. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would give it another try, especially for the chilaquiles.

Veggie Breakfast Burrito

I went for brunch during the week when it would be less crowded, wait time for a table wasn't long and we were able to snag a seat inside. Our server Matt came to the table right away, grabbed our drinks and answered some questions I had about the menu. I ended up grabbing the poblano chilaquiles (green sauce) it came with rice and creamy beans to dip the chips in. It was delicious, lots of chips so I didn't finish it all but was really good. My cousin got a veggie breakfast wrap and an iced coffee, she said both were really good! They also have gluten free pancakes ($2+ up charge) and will accommodate if you have any allergies, just notify the server. Overall service was great, food was delicious. Seating is limited both inside and outside. Parking is street only, I did find a spot off to the side in the neighborhood with a short walk to the restaurant. **When checking in, note that your whole party needs to be there when the table is ready. They won't seat you before hand.

Cafe De Olla Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Cafe De Olla

I see there is outdoor seating, so are they dog friendly?

We go there often, weekly for a late lunch and during the week it is mellow compared to a Sunday morning where everyone in Burbank wants a table:) I think they'd be fine with our four legged one as long as they are behaved and not bothering anyone.…

Can I place a to go order over the phone?

I believe so

How do I add myself to the waitlist?

Joining the waitlist on Yelp is an option through the app

Do they sell their coffee grounds? I would love to buy a bag and make it at home.

Unfortunately, no, they do not. But I wish they would 😍

Where can I park?

Plenty of street parking!

Would they be able to accommodate a party of 15 (I have big family )?

I don't think so; it's a small place

What time do you close the waitlist on Sunday?

I looked for waitlist from 9 am on and it never was available.

Why does the waitlist close sometimes, too busy?

Yes. It is a very small restaurant with maybe seating for 20 people. It's always packed. My rec is breakfast for dinner and go around 5pm. Or we will order to go and there's a cute neighborhood park literally around the corner and go eat there…

What time do they stop serving breakfast?

We server breakfast all day. Thanks for reaching out

Anyone know if they're open today New Year's Eve?

They are closed!

Is there any wait time in the late afternoon?

Depends on the day. You can check the waitlist on yelp.

Are dogs allowed for outdoor dining?

Yes, they have let me have my dog outside.

Do we have to be COVID vaccinated to be able to eat inside or outside?

Hi Kimberly, We are not, we do however require masks at all times when entering/exiting the restaurant and walking from your table.…

Is there patio dining or just the tables in the front?

A few Tables inside and out the front .. that's it

Does the Cafe have WIFI?

Yes

Is this restaurant open for outdoor dining?

The restaurants not open for outdoor dining, even though it offers you a time to join the waitlist, don't do it. They texted us once we arrived at the cafe that they were only doing takeout orders.

Is this place open for outdoor dining now?

Yep sure is

Is this location still open for dine in?

No.

Hi, I'm trying to go with a group of 4 Thursday morning for a birthday breakfast, are we able to make a reservation/is the wait that bad?

When your close Join the waiting list on Yelp ! Great place to eat!!!!…

Is this place doing dine in or take out only?

One time I was sad because they made me wait long as a solo walk-in when I let a couple go ahead of me and I walked out. So keep an eye out, it depends on who's working the front. The reason I still give them 5 stars is because they have since made up for that. It really is a beautiful place, and given that they're a relatively new establishment or a busser could have stepped in if they're busy, so just give them feedback if they need to work on things like that. The food and drinks are so unique to their place, continuing that "hidden jewel" theme. Their menu is limited but all quality food, like you're going to that friend's house and you love their recipe style. I loved the chicken sandwich the best, the crispy chicken was so juicy! Their vegetarian options are devilishly good too, with their happy face potato fritters and fried mac. For drinks, my favorite was the chocolate banana. They use real ingredients, so it really hit the spot for me. The family and kids love it, such a great vibe that you'd never expect.

To be fair, that was the total for the group, so the number alone isn't what bothered me. What bothered me was looking at the food, the portions, and how much we actually enjoyed everything, then feeling like the value wasn't there. The chips and guacamole were probably the clearest example. For $15, the amount of guacamole looked like roughly three tablespoons, and it had a dark greenish-brown appearance that wasn't particularly appetizing. I'm not going to make assumptions about how it was prepared or how long it had been sitting, but the presentation and portion were disappointing. At that price, I expected something more generous and appealing. The pu pu platter was $35 and came with an assortment of items, but the portion looked appropriate for about two people. A platter doesn't necessarily have to feed an entire table of five, but even with that in mind, it didn't feel like a particularly good value. The $15 buffalo cauliflower also failed to impress. There just wasn't enough about it to make me feel that it justified the price. The Caesar salad was probably the best thing I tasted, although I only had a couple of bites. That says quite a bit about how underwhelming the rest of the food felt. There was one positive comment from our table about the Kalua pork tacos, so I want to give those some credit, but I didn't personally try them. They were $18 for two tacos à la carte, which still struck me as a fairly steep price. After reading other diners' reviews, I noticed some similar reactions: people who enjoyed parts of the experience but felt the food was only okay, or that the prices added up quickly. Experiences clearly vary, and some customers really enjoy the food here, but the comments questioning the value made sense to me after our meal. I don't expect every restaurant to be inexpensive, and I'm happy to pay more when the quality and portions make it feel worthwhile. Here, too many items landed in the "fine, but nothing special" category while being priced high enough to create bigger expectations. Three stars feels fair because there were a few things to enjoy, but the food and overall value left me wanting more. At these prices, I'd need a more consistently satisfying meal to feel excited about coming back.

Sat at the bar and we were greeted immediately and provided water. After a quick glance at the menu, started off with cocktails. The Mai Tai want your classic Mai Tai, and the better said they were missing an ingredient, so he did a twist on the Mai Tai. It was ok, felt it was missing a needed flavor element though. The passion fruit mojito was pretty tasty though, definitely had that mojito taste with a little passion fruit pop. For food we started with two grilled oysters and the lobster and crab cake. The grilled oysters were delicious, but how do you go wrong with anple cheese and bread crumbs texture on an oyster? The lobster and crab cake was also great, plenty of crab and lobster meat within. Exactly what you would want in this dish. For entrees we went with the dry aged New York strip and, they had a special wagyu Burger with blue cheese and truffle. The strip was aged for 18-24 days, cooked perfectly and was so tender. Just a bite you want to enjoy each time. The burger was also delicious with the truffle mixed with the blue cheese and caramelized onions. You get a little of everything in each bite, just makes your mouth happy. Overall, nice steakhouse spot in Burbank that is well with the trip. That burger was phenomenal, as was the NY strip, and that lobster and crab cake along with the oysters, delicious. The Mai Tai could be improved but they did what they could with the ingredients on hand, so that's my fault for choosing something they didn't have everything for. Definitely a nice gem in Burbank so, if you're in the area, and are hungry, go stop by and enjoy what they have to offer in an upscale space.
