From savory bites and traditional Thai dishes to tea service and desserts, there was plenty to explore throughout the visit. The afternoon tea service in particular offered a unique way to experience the menu beyond a traditional meal. My Taysty Tayke: Get Down & Dirty, Expeditiously: Fish in the Boat One of the most memorable dishes from the visit. Fresh salmon paired with bright flavors and a subtle kick of spice. It almost gave salmon salad vibes while still feeling distinctly Thai. Egg Tart Soft, creamy, and incredibly smooth. The texture was outstanding and easily one of the strongest items from the afternoon tea selection. Crying Tiger Skewer Tender, juicy, flavorful, and everything you'd want from grilled beef. Simple execution done extremely well. Hot Chai Tea Excellent on its own, but the addition of cinnamon elevated it even further by adding warmth and complexity to every sip. Shrimp Bite Loved the texture here. Fresh shrimp with a bright lime flavor and none of the chewiness that can sometimes hold shrimp dishes back. Duck Salad Fresh, juicy, and tender with great balance throughout. Macaron with Grape The grape added a fruity sweetness that complemented the macaron nicely without overpowering it. Pork Pastry Flaky, savory, and satisfying. Dumpling Solid texture and flavor throughout. Curry Puff Enjoyable curry flavor but could have used a little more punch. Thai Wings Well executed with good flavor throughout. Rice Ball Sweet, sticky, and compact. A nice contrast to some of the savory items. Chicken & Shrimp Fried Dumplings Enjoyable but didn't stand out as much as some of the stronger offerings. The Experience: The afternoon tea service was a pleasant surprise and offered a creative way to sample multiple flavors in one sitting. Pairing that with the dinner menu gave a well-rounded look at what Cafe Chili has to offer. Came on a Saturday late afternoon and there was plenty of seating, no reservation required. The ambiance is really nice too. I would totally come here again for group gatherings. They also have backyard seating area as well. They have this afternoon tea set that's $38. It comes with a variety of savory and sweet items. The chive pancakes were tasty and everybody enjoyed it the most, as well as the pork floss egg tart. Some other items weren't as tasty. I'm glad to have tried it, but won't be ordering it again. Came here today for their afternoon tea set menu with a few friends after the gym and I love the ambience. Staff was friendly there is outdoor seating and a wide variety of food and drink options (alcoholic and non alcoholic) I think. They have outdoor seating and I think this place would be a great option for those booking bachelorette parties or baby shower venues. Their regular thai tea was a bit sweet for me but I really enjoyed my friends pumpkin spice thai tea (hot) it wasnt too sweet. The afternoon tea time set was cute but I would go for their entree party set next time instead. ($68) Luckily we were able to do tea time for one since it states $48 per person and me and 2 friends shared whatever was on it (chefs choice) the only 2 dishes that stood out was the chive pancake and the egg floss egg tart. We came here for lunch on a Monday and it was empty, so I suppose they also turned the AC off. We were sweating and fanning ourselves with the menu, but it cooled down a tad. (I assume they decided to turn it on when they saw us). Anyways, they do offer some lunch specials, which were a good deal. For $14-16 each, you get an entree with a soup or salad. I opted for the soup while everyone else had the salad. Even though it was a hot day, I am a soup lover and the spice from this was delicious for a tom yum soup. Everyone also really enjoyed the peanut dressing for the salad. For my entree, I had a Pad See Ew while everyone got a Royal Fried Rice. The price ranges depending on your protein choice here. I also had to ask for hot sauce condiments, which they brought out separately. It's a decent spot, but there's too many other great Thai spots around. read more

Love this place! We stopped by for lunch. The service was so welcoming and friendly! I ordered the pad see ew and it was delicious. It comes with a warm soup that fits this type of cold weather. My husband ordered the massaman curry lunch box and I loved the flavor of the curry. Reminds me of when my dad makes it at home. We also had the afternoon tea set and it was beautifully presented. The selections were chosen by the chef and I think it was so thoughtfully mixed of savory and sweet dishes. I can't believe we finished it all! Lovely spot run by this sweet couple who have been running this business for two decades! Gorgeous back patio area. Perfect for a co-working lunch. I even took calls here because the patio was empty on a Monday afternoon other than my friend and I. We experienced such fantastic service, and I felt welcomed as if I was eating lunch at someone's house. The pad see ew was one of the best I've had in a long time. Slight char on the noodle and chinese broccoli makes such a difference. The chive pancakes were divine and I still think about it, and they are vegan. Located right in Downtown Brooklyn, you will find the only place that serves Thai-style afternoon tea. If you don't consume pork, they will happily accommodate you and provide you with a vegetarian-friendly spread. Immediately upon arrival, I was greeted warmly and there were a few tables open on a busy Saturday afternoon. I decided to order the afternoon tea but found that many items contained pork. However, when I explained to them that I don't eat pork, they gladly, without any hesitation, made accommodations for me. I was happy to receive a spread with gorgeous sweet treats and creatively made veggie items such as a spring rolls and scallion pancakes. The Thai tea was perfect! I also have a dairy intolerance. But I was able to consume the tea because there wasn't any dairy products in it. It wasn't too sweet. But if you know that it has a lot of caffeine then you know it was just right. My visit was timed perfectly and I was able to stay to have dinner. I ordered the beef pad see ew, crab fried rice, basil red snapper, and half duck. I was very pleased with the presentation of every thing. However, I wasn't a big fan of the half duck smothered in the sauce... I felt like the duck was a bit dry and so it wasn't as delightful as I thought it would have been. Oh, and the lychee martini was excellent BTW! Despite the one dish, I really loved this place. I think it was a 3/5 but I really liked the service so bumping it to 4/5 Food: we came here for afternoon tea which after tax and tip comes up to $50 per person! In the tea you get your choice of Thai tea or a tea bag. I got the Thai tea - which was very sweet and was a bit too much with a primarily sweet meal! The way the afternoon tea works is that the chef decides what you get. Most of the items are sweet! My favorite was the chive pancake! Everything else was good but nothing too special. Cafe Chili goes back--kind of way back and it used to be a go to Thai spot for me and my family/friends. Fast forward to present day. The restaurant stands in the same place---inviting and with attractive decor. While I ordered for delivery a few times in the last several years, I recently took the opportunity to dine in. A sign outside noted happy hour food and drinks until 7. The server was courteous to extend the offer even though it was 7:09 when we settled. The air temperature was cold inside which was uncomfortable considering it was very cold outside. We started with an appetizer known as Pretty Package which were Steamed Chicken and Shrimp dumplings. They were quite good and 5 pieces to an order. For main we chose Chicken with Cashews and Chicken with Ginger (my choice). I asked for less salt since I typically don't like dark brown salty gravy. I ordered a Jasmine tea to accompany my meal. Service was somewhat lackluster which was surprising since there weren't many patrons. Food arrived a short while later. My opinion was satisfactory. It was pretty good and I enjoyed it Overall, Cafe Chili will satisfy your Thai craving but doesn't measure up to other high quality NYC restaurants cited in various articles. Came on a New Year's Eve and the restaurant was relatively quiet for lunch. There was one server working at that time and I think there were others helping out in the kitchen. Menu was extensive but it wasn't overwhelming really just a front and back page. There were some interesting looking specials that I got which was the Andaman noodles and a curry. We originally ordered the shrimp and pineapple curry but i think the server misheard and brought out a duck and pineapple curry for us instead. They were friendly enough to offer to take it back to the kitchen to correct it for us, however we didn't want to waste any more time so we just took the duck and pineapple curry instead. The noodles were very very flavorful. A lot of seafood in it and just the right amount of spice. The pineapple duck Curry was also pretty good, I kind of wish that the bowl of rice was a little bit bigger since we finished the rice quicker than the curry. When it came to dessert, this was where I was a little disappointed because because there were two desserts that I wanted, however I was told that anything with mango wasn't available and they really only had ice cream left for dessert. Stumbled across this awesome mom and pop Thai shop that's now one of our favorites in the city. The owners are so kind and welcoming, telling us to take our time. The coconut shrimp was good, but nothing special. The tom kha was delicious and flavorful, we were scraping the bottom of the bowl. The pad Thai was a little sweet for my liking but I asked for fish sauce and that fixed it right up. Came here on a Friday evening for dinner with my gf. Compared to a lot of the Thai restaurants in NYC, the atmosphere is more on the romantic side. Soft classical music played in the background with candles lit on every table. Drinks, we got the Summer Pineapple Punch ($6) and Raspberry Peach Lemonade ($6). Both were refreshing. If I had to choose one, it would be the Sumer Pineapple Punch. We tried a variety of unique items that we thought was only available at this restaurant as well as dishes recommended by the staff. We started off with the All Flavors Thai Snack. This consisted of roasted coconuts, fresh lime, red onion, ginger, and peanuts. In one bite, you're supposed to be able to experience sweet, sour, spicy, salty, and bitter. For sure have never had anything like this in any Thai restaurants. The Spicy Thai Basil Minced Chicken w Sunny Side up Egg ($18) was another recommended dish. Regardless of its simplicity, it's a pretty good dish. One entree dish you cannot go wrong is the Kao Soi ($18) which is a Northern Thai style curry egg noodle w chicken. The chicken is a huge drumstick and the meat is fall off the bone good. It is also very filling and the noodles, including the fried noodles on top, were great. For dessert we had to get the OG Blue Butterfly Pea Sticky Rice w Sweet Mango ($9) aka Mango Sticky Rice. The presentation and plating itself was done very picturesque. If you're looking for some more flavorful dessert, I'd recommend the Thai Pearl ($9). This dish is sweet and will also be salty when you pour the liquid that comes on the side. Aside from the food, service is great. We got to meet the owners, Peanie and Gary, whom are super friendly. They will greet you when you first walk in and will walk you out, like how grandparents would when their kids come visit. If you get the chance to chat with them, especially Gary, they'll tell you all about Thailand. We tried the Thai afternoon tea for $38 per person, chive pancakes and three flavor fried fish. The chive pancakes and fried fish were good. The Thai afternoon tea was a different story, we had a choice of 8 items and tea, we received the exact items for both of the afternoon tea set. Unfortunately, we didn't like any of the items from the afternoon tea menu, everything tasted microwaved and not fresh; quite disappointing. I stopped by here for a quick lunch and left head over heels for their Massaman Curry. With about 40 mins to spare between appointments, I ordered the Lunch Box Special with Massaman Curry + Chicken and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. I can't remember anything that stood out about the salad or various dumplings that were included in the lunch box but I enjoyed the spring roll and was happy to get an extra one for free. (Hello Yelp check-ins!) I'm not sure how frequently I'll venture for food this far down on Court st in the future, but if I do, I would be happy to pop in here again.
