I feel that I should have started going here years sooner. I had the ham and cheese quiche which was good. The salad was great. The homemade Mayo that I was offered with my friends were amazing! We went for Valentine's Brunch. It was a lot slower than I thought it would be. My fiancée had the steak and eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I can't wait to go back to try more of their options. We are already talking about it. The server was fairly young and even admitted when he wasn't sure but was willing to ask. I was impressed by the server. Sadly didn't get his name that I recall. It is a perfect date spot with good spacing between tables right now. read more

This is a quaint, family run restaurant that really made us feel like we were back in Brussels! We got beer flights to start and the staff helped us choose the beers based on what we liked. We ordered escargot, the mussels variety platter (can't remember what it was called), frites with Mayo (of course), and then mussels in white wine. Everything was delicious!! The escargot, frites and white wine mussels were my favorite. The mussels platter was a great way to try different styles of mussels and they were all really good! I love this place! Food is wonderful, ambience is unique and cozy and did I mention their food?! I have the mussels everytime and I never regret my decision! Pair that with a glass of their ice cold rose and you have one of the best meals in the city! Oh, and their French fries with home made mayo are outstanding! This place is hella authentic to Belgian food and it was so good. They have a good list of Belgian beers. We had the chicken croquette with mushroom sauce, mussels in spicy, zesty sauce, and mussels with bisque. All were super tasty. All the meals come with yummy thick cut french fries. We all mixed the ketchup and the mayo to dip the fries. You get bread but I would've preferred more bread than fries so I could dip it in the delicious mussels sauce. We also ordered the banana split at the end...that Belgium chocolate sauce made it extra good. The owner works the floor and you can tell she's passionate about her place and the food. The restaurant is covered with pictures and artifacts to make you think of Belgium. It's a pretty chill place so don't feel like you have to get dressed up. It does get busy during prime time so maybe make a rez but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. read more

I was born and raised in Belgium. Have been missing food from there forever! Never would I have thought to find a Belgian restaurant in Houston! There's plenty of parking since they have a lot behind the restaurant. As I walked in, I felt like I was transported back to Belgium to the point that when the server poured me a glass of water, I automatically said "oui, merci!". The walls are decorated with pictures of Grand Place and flags of their soccer team (Les diables rouges). We ordered half a pot of the mussels as appetizers and classic croque madame! The mussels were delicious in the broth and served authentically in a pot! If you can't finish, bring the broth home to dip some french baguette in it!! The croque madame took me back to Belgium. I used to eat this all the time!! It was just delicious! Ill be honest, the service is a bit slow but hey, it's a European restaurant lol be patient! All of Catherine's food listed in her menu is always fresh & delicious. I never order the soup of the day, because I never tire of the delectable lobster bisque. Handcut, homemade fries must be dipped in Catherine's homemade mayo &/or the rich, decadent pot liquor half filling the pots of steamed mussels. My favorites are Moules Roquefort & Moules Bisque (with bisque, cognac & cream!) Small, crusty loaves of French bread served at every table is also made for dipping in the rich broth. The other menu items sound amazing & I will eventually get around to trying them all, but the Lonster Bisque, Endive salad, Salad Roquefort, Moules & homemade fries are to die for!! I live near this place and it's always a busy little cafe. If you're looking for a little piece of Belgium this place definitely represents! From a food perspective they have many of the dishes you'd expect to find in a Belgian cafe, but my personal favorite here is their mussels. They are fantastic! If you're seeking some traditional Abbey Ales they have a good selection. Service can be a bit slow at times, but overall they are attentive and do their best. Personally I enjoy a bit of the slow down over the rushed feeling so many places have these days. Hadn't been here since before Covid so it was overdue! The food was still the same and delicious! Our to go to is the mussels and the escargot. Bisque mussels are our favorite but we also enjoy the ones cooked in white wine. Our friends had ordered the meatloaf which they really enjoyed. We ordered the filet mignon and that was cooked perfectly rare which we had requested. Had dinner here with a couple friends before going to a show. The food was good, but the service was just okay. Our server didn't write down our orders, and there was six of us all ordering entrees and appetizers. Unfortunately, some of the food came out wrong, and I can only assume it was because the server was relying on her memory alone. Overall, the food was good, and the atmosphere is cute and authentically Belgian. I think four stars is a generous rating given the service issues. As always, Cafe Brussels shines with its delicious European style dishes. I hope you're not in a hurry. This IS a European restaurant. That being said, you will have your food home cooked and it will take a while. Be prepared to chat with your friends, family, or dates when you come here. Their Belgium beer selection is extensive. Their mussels are the house favorite for a reason. We had the garlic steamed 1/2 order. I do recommend them as an appetizer. This was the second time I've been here. The chicken cordon blue is easily one of the most delicious things on the menu and a must try for those not so much on the adventurous side. The first time I went we sat next to some people visiting from England and all 4 of them had the rabbit. "Exquisite," they proclaimed. Overcome with curiosity I had to try it on my second visit. The fries were a perfect side to soak up the delicious... gravy(?) that comes on top of the rabbit. It's a prune and raisin gravy which I thought for sure I would not like. WRONG. It was amazing. I will be trying the meatloaf and chicken curry soon. Go. Enjoy the time to not be rushed, the delicious food, and your company. You will not regret it. read more

Authentic traditional Flemish cuisine. I am of Flemish descent, and I highly appreciate the owner's hospitality and high quality food, true to the Flemish culture. The owner was very nice and made us feel very welcome. My wife and I had a great experience this past Sunday (1:30 pm arrival). We didn't want brunch so we ordered off the regular menu. We both started with the onion soup (La Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée) and it was fantastic. We then shared a pot of mussels in white wine (Moules Marinières) and that always brings me back to Belgium! That wasn't enough! We ordered the garlic mussels plate (Moules à l'Escargot - 6 servings) to satiate ALL of our garlic needs...they were met. Of course, the Belgian beers available are always good! Staff: they were fantastic and ready to help. Covid concerns: plenty of spread out indoor seating and enough outdoor seating for 2 foursomes and 2 twosomes. Cafe Brussels has been in my Yelp bookmarks for years - almost a decade, I think. There are simply too many restaurants to explore in Houston, so it's taken me a while to get to Cafe Brussels, but alas I made it through the doors. Cafe Brussels is best known for its selection of Belgian beers and Belgian cuisine by chef/owner Catherine Duwez. On the menu, you'll find mussels in many styles and sauces, escargot, soups. salads, beef tenderloin, steak tartare, five different variations of croque monsieur, and fantastic cold sandwiches (shrimp salad, tuna salad, chicken salad). And crepes and croissants! An assortment of sweet/dessert crepes. My pal and I dropped in for dinner and shared an assortment of mussels, two orders of Belgian fries, and a few bottles of wine and endless orders of bread. And on another note, I have to add that their French mayonnaise is life changing. I couldn't stop squee-ing about it, the barkeep packed up a small container for me to-go. Needless to say, I rationed that container and made some bomb ass breakfast sandwiches for the next few days. Service is casual and slow for American standards, so don't go in a hurry. One night, I was craving beef stew and Cafe Brussels looked promising. Let's give this a shot, eh? The interior had that old time European kitsch, with all the posters of Tin-tin through the decades. It felt kinda like Europe, despite being in the heart of metro Houston. Drinks were beer and wine only. I ordered a Hoegaarden and the server brought out a Stella. That was close enough; this wasn't a battle I felt like fighting. The beef stew was excellent. It was gamey, but not overcooked. The sauce was very rich and permeated into the side of potato croquettes. I can't find a good way to describe the sauce other than 1) I got hints of beer and 2) Cracker Barrel's beef stew, on its very best day, is about 1/50th as good as this dish. It didn't look a heaping plate, but I couldn't finish it. The rest of the menu, mainly the mussels and crepes, looked promising but I only had room for one dish on my first visit. I'll be back again to try the other offerings. But seriously, try the beef stew. It's so worth it. read more

I always walk by this place and finally was able to stop by for brunch on a Saturday. It wasn't very busy so it was nice to be quickly sat and served. I ordered crepes with a side of bacon and my spouse ordered an omelet. We ate the entirety of our meal which doesn't always happen for me. This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Houston. This was my second visit and I concentrated on mussels this time. That is the way to go. I had the Moules Catherine, which is the sampler plate. All of the mussels were perfectly cooked, and the sauces were delicious. I tried my wife's Moules Diablo. It was wonderful with the perfect spiciness that went with the fennel. On top of that, they have a selection of delicious Belgian beers. Hard to beat this place. Service was excellent and they had no problems splitting the tab for the two couples at our table. A delightful experience. We will keep going back. read more
