Don't go here.
I am vaccinated & boosted but the customer service from the lady owner was a whole political mess.
Today is our first day in Alaska, so we decided to visit a nearby coffee shop from our hotel. While we were parking, I noticed the coffee shop required masks, so we let my mom and brother walk in first to get masks since we left ours in the hotel. As they were putting both of the masks on that they found hanging at the front, my dad and I approached the store hoping there would be extra masks for us too. We didn't even take a single step inside of the shop before the lady owner approached us quickly, almost in an aggressive manner, and firmly told us we needed to wear masks inside. I asked her if she had masks to show her we were simply there to comply to the rules. She gave us masks and proceeded to tell us her COVID-19 guidelines while sitting us at a table. She immediately asked us what we wanted to drink without giving us a second to look at the menu. We felt so rushed.
That initial interaction made us feel uneasy but we decided to look past it and enjoy our brunch. Don't get me wrong, the food & drinks tasted amazing. And the man in a red shirt was a great server. He was calm, collected, and even funny. Unfortunately, we don't recommend this coffee shop simply because of the judgmental lady's lack of social skills.
The lady owner made it a point to keep repeating the rules to us. She treated us as if she thought we were completely against her rules for general safety just because we showed up maskless. Already discriminating us from the get-go.
The craziest thing that happened, the main reason why I'm writing this review, is something that occurred near the end of our visit. Since we could tell that the lady server disliked us, my dad tried to ease the tension by asking her about the story of this place. That is when we learned that she was the owner alongside her husband and her son. We could tell that she calmed down as she talked about the previous owners. But immediately after, she once again reminded us to wear masks once we are done eating since she would be coming back to pick up our plates.
A couple minutes passed as we were finishing up and the lady owner showed up to take our plates away. "Masks need to be back on" she said, but my dad held up his coffee higher to show her that he was still in the midst of finishing his drink. My brother and I began to put our masks on since we were done, but when she noticed that my mom and dad were still maskless (my mom was literally looking for her mask), she said "masks to be put back on when plates are being retrieved since that means you are done eating." We were simply shocked. As she put the plates on a counter near us, I spoke up and said to my dad, "oh my god, you are still drinking," to make it apparent to her how ridiculous she was being.
As far as we know, it is uncommon to be suddenly kicked out immediately after paying in a restaurant when it still has free tables. It was not busy at the time we went. This woman made us feel like we needed to get out as soon as we were done sipping our drinks after paying. We couldn't stay a second longer to digest or even ask for extra water.
And of course, at the end, we were reminded for the millionth time to wear our masks before exiting through the door of the coffee shop which was only about ten steps away from us.
This was a ridiculous experience. Not recommended. read more
