My brothers and I, along with my nieces (5 and 7 years old), decided to come here for dessert after dinner. While waiting, we decided to play Uno to pass the time. We lost track of time and didn't realize that it was time for them to close. Instead of being warned about their closing time, a staff decided to turn off the lights on us while we were seated without a word. I felt that that was incredibly passive aggressive, rude, and unnecessary. Normally, this wouldn't bother me, but because it was sort of a small reunion for my brothers and I + we had KIDS with us, I just felt that this was a very poor example of customer service. I believe this situation could have been easily avoided with a simple and courteous warning, such as, "Just a heads-up, we're closing in a few minutes." I really do hope that management will consider providing clearer guidance to staff on communicating closing times respectfully to customers especially as they just opened at this location not too long ago. read more

Stopped by Café 86 in the Tustin District after having ramen next door at RAKKAN. I got the upside-down halo halo, and while it wasn't overly sweet (which I appreciated), it was definitely a bit too much for me. Still, for just about a dollar more than the smaller size, it felt worth trying. The ube ice cream in it was delicious, and the boba was a great addition. I was a bit sad when the previous halo halo spot in that location closed, so I'm happy to have a new go-to nearby, especially with summer around the corner. The staff was friendly and the service was quick and efficient. I also liked the atmosphere, lots of younger folks studying and hanging out, which gave the place a chill, welcoming vibe. I tried a couple of the ube desserts too. The ube truffle didn't really hit the mark for me (lacked strong ube flavor), and the ube brownie was decent but nothing mind-blowing. If I had just had the halo halo it would be 5/5 but because the desserts weren't 5/5 I had to go with a 4/5 overall. They definitely have better items on the menu, but I'll be back for that halo halo! read more

Ube matcha was creamy and sweet without being too sweet, the cookie butter latte packed a punch and definitely satisfied the coffee itch, flan ube cupcake took me by surprise because I'm not usually a flan fan but it was firm instead of super watery and really tasty, and the ube cheesecake was sweet and soft with graham crust and crumble which created this amazing sandwich effect. I went here during the grand opening, and the line was quite long and took a while, but it will likely be faster the grand opening day is over. Service was friendly and helpful. The calamansi is very sweet, even though I got it half sweet, so I recommend adjusting sugar. I expected it to taste like yuzu juice, but it tastes closer to lemonade with hints of orange juice. The Rosie has good flavor, but was not as creamy/ was more runny/watery than most milk teas I'm used to. It's pretty refreshing though. I like my drinks cold with no ice, but that was not an option, so both my drinks came with light ice. It's still a bit heavy on the ice for me. The interior is cute, but too loud with the music and crowd to do work at. It's not very roomy inside, but it's located in a lovely shopping area with ample parking nearby. read more

I love Cafe 86!!! As a Filipino American living in Orange County, it's so cool to see staple Filipino treats like halo halo being served in Tustin!! The owners Derek and Yumi are incredibly sweet and friendly and always make sure they have your order just right. I love their Pandan Matcha Latte which gives me a nostalgic feeling of home, while also not being too sweet. Their Calamansi Juice is also a refreshing (and VERY delicious, not tart or sour!) nod to the calamansi I would have growing up!! My mom loved to use calamansi in the pancit dishes she would cook for me and my sisters. Definitely recommend!! read more

I got an ube milk tea with extra ube since I heard from another review that the ube milk tea had a very light ube flavor. I think the extra ube was plenty and is just right for me :D. Not sure how light it would be without but I like a lot of ube flavor anyways so this is perfect for me ^_^. There are game boards, didn't see how many, but there was a chessboard towards the back of the cafe so that's pretty fun if you're with friends. I got the Halo Halo Bread Pudding which I definitely recommend getting heated up. I liked how soft it was, it had the right amount of sweetness in my opinion, and honestly great to eat if it's a little chilly out. Cafe 86 offers delicious drinks and desserts, but the service needs serious improvement. They don't manage rushes efficiently, there were six people making orders, yet no one was taking new ones. We waited over 15 minutes just to place an order, even though there were only two of us in line. I overheard a worker say, "We can always take orders later, work on these first," and they essentially waited to clear the cafe before taking our order. That's not how you run a cafe, orders should be taken continuously to keep things moving. Better coordination would make the experience much smoother. read more
