Very yummy filipino inspired desserts/drinks. My friend always enjoys their ube cheesecake & ube leche flan cupcake. There are little stool bars against the wall to sit and enjoy your pastries and drinks. Workers are very friendly too! I tried their kouki monster milkshake and it was good! I also tried their turon pop tart & loved every bit of it. Definitely worth the try & satisfies my sweet tooth cravings. read more

I've been looking for Filipino dessert spots around the area but it's rare to find one in Mountain View. I'm glad that we were able to find one spot in downtown. I recommend the upside down halo halo, flavor is really good, only thing is that it's not as icy as I wanted it to be like traditional halo halo, it's more of a milky consistency but I still liked the taste. Their ube cheesecake is pretty good too! Give it a try. read more

This cute little place was delicious! My friend and I tried their ube leche flan cupcake and churrochi with ube ice cream. The cupcake was super moist and, wow, I never knew what I was missing until I tried it with the flan on top. Elite combination! The churrochi was simply another amazing combination. It freshly made, warm, and coating well in cinammon sugar with that iconic chewy texture from the mochi. A perfect with the ice cream. The staff here are very friendly so you will definitely enjoy your experience here. I highly recommend stopping by! read more

Nice cafe that recently opened up in downtown Mountain View! There's limited bar seating inside, so would suggest taking your order to go. Stopped by for an afternoon pick me up and ordered: -Ube crack cheesecake -Hibiscus calamansi iced tea with lychee The cashier was helpful and made a great suggestion on the tea, I was looking for something to give me energy but didn't want coffee. FYI the hibiscus tea is made with black tea. :) It was a bit sweet so next time I'll ask if they can customize the sweetness level. The ube crack cheesecake was definitely the star of the show here. Not too sweet and the texture was perfect, I'd order it again. This spot offers many drinks and pastries to choose from, I'll be back! Next on my list is the ube latte and ube pop tart! read more

It is a small little shop that is hard to notice on the street. I was around the area for dinner and came pick up a dessert. I heard that their Ube Leche Flan Cupcakes were really good so I couldn't help myself and had to try it. I got the Ube Leche Flan Cupcake and I loved it! It is not too sweet to me as I thought it would be really sweet. The flan was perfect and the cupcake was moist. It was not dry at all. Overall, I really like the cupcake and would come back to try their other desserts, but I would most likely visit their new location in Daly City when it opens since it is closer to me. read more

The ube pastries were delish! Their ube truffles and ube bars were so addictive. The only thing I wasn't crazy for was the halo-halo; it was loaded with Frosted Flakes, which I didn't like because it veered away from the traditional halo-halo, but my fault since I didn't read the full description. The ube latte made up for it though. read more

I came to yelp just to rave about the ube butter bar. Most places say they have an ube flavored item but the ube flavor does not come through. NOT HERE! I love love love the ube butter bar because it's so densely packed with ube flavor! Definitely recommend coming here just to try the ube butter bar. read more

The halo-halo here is so good! I love all the toppings they provide, I wish I got it upside down because it also looked so good The area is quiet and clean and makes it a good place to study. However, the stools can be quite annoying but at least the desserts are good read more

As someone who grew up enjoying ube and Filipino desserts, Cafe 86 is decadence and bliss to me. My favorite offerings from them are their ube truffle (like a rich ube cake pop), ube cheesecake, and leche flan ube cupcake. While not everything I've tried here has been a knock out of the park for me, I haven't felt a sense of disappointment with anything I've ordered here, and above that I admire that they try these different creative approaches to Filipino desserts. I'll be coming back again and again. read more

This is a ube themed desert cafe which has a lot of options if you are an ube lover. Their signature item is probably the halo halo and that is the best and could order again. Their ube flan cupcake was ok, as I was not a big fan of the flan, tasted not very fresh and was too chewy for my taste. The cupcake itself was soft but not extraordinary, the ube flavor was more artificial. The ube butter bar was ok if you like butter cookies but also the flavor was a bit lacking and it was too rich. The churochi was probably the worst menu item and would definitely not order again, it was hard and Chewy, not in a good way and the cinnamon sugar was too much. Churros at Costco are so much better than this dessert and Mochi from a supermarket would be better as well. The ube ice cream was really good and I loved all the toppings inside the halo halo as it gives different textures and flavours. I substituted the vanilla ice cream for ube and it was really good! The ambience is ok, and the metallic chairs could be a little uncomfortable but overall decent cafe if you want to try more ube flavours. read more

I come here for halo halo quite often and I like this place. I give 5 stars usually. However today, 3/30 at 4:23, the male worker stayed inhospitable throughout the order process. Not even a simple greet. Customer experience is part of the business and it wasn't great today. read more

I can't speak for their desserts, but I'd only recommend buying a drink here if you like yours really sweet. I tried one of the milk teas with 50% sugar (their lowest setting) and still found the result sickening -- basically equal to 100% sweetness anywhere else. I tried my best to finish it just to get my $5.73 worth (that's before toppings), but couldn't. Sadly, the counter girl said that's how things are with all their drinks. Not sure how they can compete with other boba shops until they master the basics of customization. read more

Cafe 86 is located in the downtown Mountain View area (across from Superhot) and they sell ube desserts. There's plenty of parking - parking lots, structures, street parking all around. The restaurant itself is small but cute. There are a few seats against the wall - it's a good place to sit and chat if you're able to get one of the seats. I ended up getting the upside down halo halo and the crack cheesecake. I would definitely come back and get the upside down halo halo next time. I really liked the ube flavor it had and everything else they put in it. Boba, jelly, flan, etc. the crack cheesecake was also good but for some reason the white cream on top tasted odd to me...kinda like stinky cheese. I'll try other desserts next time. The service was good! The workers are nice. read more

What a sweet little cafe tucked away in Downtown MV. I heard about this cafe from PBS (I think) and got excited because they specialized in a lot of ube drinks. Of course, the Filipino in me is like "HECK YEAH NEED MY GO TO UBE PLACE!" I ordered an ube monster milkshake which was absolutely delicious. Creamy, satisfying, and had me craving for more. I'll have to try out their halo halos next time. The people before me ordered one and it looked pretty darn delicious and authentic. I'm not sure what an "upside down" halo halo is because you have to mix the ingredients anyway? But I'll have to ask next time. Check this place out when you're in town! read more

Cafe 86 just opened a few weeks ago, just a few steps from Castro St. I'd walked by it a few times waiting for their opening and was surprised to find just one group there on a Tuesday night. I ordered online to pick up, and my order was already prepared. The worker I spoke to was friendly and bagged everything up for me. My partner and I got to try the: - halo halo: I got the original version which seems to use an icy coffee base with ube ice cream, while the upside down used an ube icy base with vanilla ice cream. I opted for no langka (jackfruit). They provide the long spoons necessary for halo halo alongside the regular utensils, so don't forget to grab one! I enjoyed the flavor of this more than a traditional halo halo with condensed milk and ice or with an ube base. I felt it was a little light on jellies and boba though. The flan was a nice touch, and I loved the cereal bits in there. Petition to add more cereal to desserts for texture! - chocolate crunch cup: I was in the mood for chocolate cake, and this hit the spot. I liked the crispies on top, though I'm not sure I'd necessarily order this again. - mini Thai tea monster milkshake: my partner got this, and it tasted just like it sounds! The Oreo made it extra dessert-y. We added boba as well. - ube butter bar: this was my partner's and he thought it was okay. I've yet to try it though. I'll be back when I'm in the area for other ube treats or that halo halo! read more

This place has the desserts I always search for!! We got the ube tres leches and the upside down halo halo. Both were absolutely delicious, the tres leches was drenched in ube flavor, and the whipped cream/frosting you could tell had ube paste or something in it, it was all amazing. The cashew cookies on top were a great texture and flavor as well. The upside down halo halo will be a go to from now on!! I loved how the ube flavor was throughout, and their flan was very thick and a great texture. I liked the boba and jellies inside, though a part of me wishes they had some of the jellies from authentic halo halo, but it was still awesome, we will be back!! read more

I've seen this place on IG before and was super excited to try it finally. I got both the ube cheesecake and the ube flan cupcake since I've always wanted to try them. They did not disappoint! Definitely great flavor and texture. I liked the cupcake more than the cheesecake and they were similar in price, ~5$ each. I didn't like the cheesecake crust (too hard) as much but the actual cheesecake was good. Cupcake was worth the money, but definitely a bit pricy for me to enjoy regularly. As for drinks, omg! Let me just say, they have great options. My sister got the upside down halo halo and it was full of everything I could ask for. I don't think anyone can finish it by themselves, but no judgment if they do lol. I would have to share that. I got the Hibiscus Calamansi and it was a refreshing drink without any craziness. My boyfriend got the Kouki Monster milkshake and he was happy with it. I thought it was pretty good as well. Overall, I'm happy they have a location nearby and would keep going back for more. So excited to see that they've opened up a place in the Bay Area that's much closer to me! I've been wanting to try this place for a long time but never wanted to make the trek to Union City. I got the ube butter bar and a hibiscus calamansi. The butter bar wasn't too sweet, and you can really taste the ube flavor. I would suggest keeping it refrigerated if you're not going to eat it right away - tastes better cold in my opinion. The bar is pretty rich, so I found myself eating it over the course of a few days. The hibiscus calamansi was sadly way too sweet for me. I could barely finish half of it before I tossed it away because of how sweet it was. It tasted like a drink at more than 100% sweet if I had to describe how sweet it was. My friends got the ube milk tea and seemed to enjoy that. read more

My family tried out the halo halo at the Vegas location, and the elders were not impressed by the halo halo. I didn't listen and was mesmerized by Padma's seal of approval. I had to try this place. Reality woke me up. I'll start with the highlights. My favorite was the Ube bars. My friend had the halo halo and also enjoyed it. My other friend got the Ube pop tarts and said it was just OK. I also got a turkey pesto sandwich, which was good but wow was it greasy. My other gripe is that the dessert items all came out first and quickly, while the sandwich took forever and a day. I'm not really sure why this place serves sandwiches if the service for sandwiches is very S-L-O-OO-W. Patrons can also see through the kitchen, and the person making the sandwich was taking their sweet time chumming up to co-workers who all probably made a dozen or so of the dessert drinks while this person was making one sandwich. The servers are friendly, and at the same time, they were also very forgetful. Forgetting things like utensils or giving a cup of water when asked for some. The space itself is nice and clean but also really small with very minimal seating. Filipino dining is very communal and this set up is poorly designed for that. Came here with friends to catch up. We had to take our food and walk about a block out to find a bench nearby that could fit three of us. It's basically stool seats with very small tables lined up against the wall or mirror. It's like they set it up so that you'd leave right away, and on a weekend night, it got crowded fast. It also made it very apparent that my sandwich was taking forever as I waited, watching crowds order, receive their dessert drinks, and leave. It was a mistake to order a sandwich. There's plenty of places in San Mateo County and Santa Clara County that will have halo halo and ube items. I wouldn't necessarily make an intentional effort to come here again. Everything is decent, but nothing special. read more

Being Filipino, I really wanted to love this place but so much went wrong with my visit in regards to the ambiance, food, and service. 1) It was a really hot day, yet the AC was either broken or simply not on. I tried opening the door, but a worker closed it shortly after. It was so hot inside the cafe and somehow hotter than it was outside. 2) We were the only ones there and there was about a 15 min wait for our food (which is fine and understandable). However, the workers made our drinks immediately but left them behind the counter the entire time. Not only did this cause our drinks to get watered down, but the workers didn't call our names for the drinks or leave it in an area reachable to us until after our two sandwiches were done 15 mins later. Especially with the heat in the cafe, I don't see why they don't hand us the drinks if they make it immediately? 3) More training is needed for the teenage staff. After our complete order was finished, I saw that the forks at the counter were empty and there was only knives along with a single spoon left. I waited at the counter for a few minutes, but neither of the two staff came to the front or glanced at the counter. 4) Along with our drinks being made immediately, the two pastries we got (ube butter bar and a tres leches) were also taken out of their display and immediately left on the counter for the entire 15 mins until our sandwiches were ready. I'm not sure if this was the cause or if the container was not closed all the way, but the liquid in the tres leches ended up spilling all over the insides of the bag. 5) The only seating available are thin bar tables/stools along the walls of the cafe. That's fine but just a sidenote for anyone planning a visit since it's not the most comfortable place for a date or hangout. read more

We came in at 8pm on a Tuesday night. It wasn't crowded, and the cashier was nice. Good ambience, the store is cute! However, we tried the matcha latte and blueberry matcha latte, and they were super disappointing. They both came out hot when we wanted them cold, but they were kind enough to remake them. It seemed like they simply poured the hot drinks into a cold cup and added ice. They both tasted watered down and disgusting. Would not recommend ordering these. read more
