Carlos came recommended by a friend. Up until this point, I had over 5 bids for a replacement HVAC system. They all bid with a 14 seer system for their cheapest estimate using a crane. I called Carlos and he showed up that day, suggested the Mitsubishi 19 Seer system that was cheaper, had a longer warranty and had great reviews and he also didn't need a crane to install. My heater went out so I contacted Carlos. I called thw phone number after hours and expextes to leave a message. To my surprise he answered. DO NOT ALLOW CARLOS ON YOUR PROPERTY!!!! Last Friday I called Carlos as I received his phone number from a friend because my heating system motor burned out. I was at work and Carlos said he can stop by to see what is wrong with the system. My daughter was at home, so I told him he can stop by and look at my heating system. Carlos took my motor without my authorization. I asked him to send me info on the motor so I can order one one line, he said he can get one faster from the supplier. The next day he gave me a quote and I told him I will discuss the situation with my dad and get back to him. When I called back, I told him my dad said he knows a place where I might be able to get the motor fixed and from that point Carlos became unreachable. After two days of not taking my called or responding to my texts, I asked my boyfriend to call Carlos and he answered the phone, and it took us another day to get the motor back. After checking to confirm that the motor could not be fixed, I found a company that agreed to make the repair and a price 30% less than Carlos. They came to my house and let me know that Carlos removed additional parts that can not be bought because of the age of the system. All of this was going on while Carlos lives five minutes from my house and he know that there are three people freezing in a house without heating over Christmas and New Years, making the repair impossible by stealing irreplaceable parts to my system. The interesting part was that I asked Carlos for a quote for a new system, which he quoted me at $9,500 and had I not found out he stole parts of my system from my house, I actually considered buying the new system from him! I had another company quote a top of the line system with installation for $7,500. Everyone can make their own decisions, but in my case, parts of my system were removed without my authorization or prior knowledge, Carlos did not return my parts as requested. He quoted me $589 to do a repair another higher rated company quoted $450 and he gave me a quote $2000 for the same type of new unit. read more

We needed our new smart wifi thermostat installed and knew the common wire with our AC was kinda flakey, so we hired Carlos to come out and take a look. Carlos originally sent a couple of his guys initially, but they had trouble figuring out the unconventional wiring in our AC system. Carlos immediately came after they couldn't figure it out. After a few tries, he did figure out how to install my new thermostat with my system. After the first few attempts though, I was ready to give up since it seemed obvious my odd wiring would prevent me from installing the new thermostat. But Carlos was determined and methodical to his approach and eventually did figure out how to get everything wired up and working. Carlos is courteous, professional, thorough, and an all around nice guy. Carlos and his crew replaced my heater and AC and did a great job. He and his crew were very professional, neat and polite.

Our 1926 house had an old gravity furnace that wasn't quite doing the job, so we hired Carlos for a full HVAC install. They removed the old furnace in the crawlspace "basement", installed the new furnace in the attic, had a crane park the AC condenser on the roof, and installed all new ducts. They were especially careful with the lathe and plaster ceilings when they had to make cuts for the air vents (8 ducts and 1 large air return) and were almost completely successful in getting out with zero damage - the damage that did occur was about a dime-sized chunk near a vent and took 5 minutes to repair. If you've ever cut holes in lathe and plaster, you know this takes patience and care. Carlos and his crew are all super nice and friendly, and Carlos makes sure it's done right. Skip going with any contractor that wants to bypass the permit and testing process, the duct leakage test is how you know the system is installed correctly. Having this be part of the process is a given for Carlos, other companies we got bids from suggested we could skip it if we wanted. He even returned a month after the install to verify the AC system didn't have any leaks. Carlos was our lowest bid, but that was just a bonus for hiring him. Our friends referred us to him after they had a full HVAC system installed, so word of mouth pays. It's been a year living with the system and everything works great, I wouldn't hesitate to give Carlos a call if you need HVAC work done. read more

I used C.H. Heating and Cooling back in Nov. 2010 for installing a new central HVAC system($9000) based on rating of Angie's list (he had a A rating back then, and F a couple months ago). While Carlos was polite, things were not as smooth as they could be. Looking back, they just removed some existing pipes and asbestos without calling for the inspector. They have too many jobs and constantly late, and I had to spend my Thanksgiving in 2010 without heating. Anyway, they finally finished the system though they refused to paint a wall, which we painted ourselves later. In 2012, we have a small change of vent, and naturally we called Carlos. He stopped by and took a look and give a quota ($180) and we went ahead. It was supposed to be an hour job and his crew was two hours later. Carlos didn't stay with his crew and just left. After two hours, his crew came out and says things were working, but the job was not done properly. What does that mean? I called Carlos and asked him to stop by and take a look. He agreed a date and never showed up. Then he never gets back to me. One month later, he emailed me an invoice of $220, which is ridicules. A couple months ago, the rating of Angie's list has dropped down to F, which is not that surprising. Now, the AC is not working properly after two summer because Freon level is low (some bad welding? mmm). Carlos said that he will come, then he didn't show up again. Then he said that he didn't want to come. So please stay away from him. read more

He also serviced our other AC unit for a very fair price and he took the time to explain everything that the unit needed to complete the service. In 2014, Carlos installed a brand-new central HVAC unit (RUDD Ultra 4 ton) on top of my roof for around $10k saying the unit is the top of the line. In November 2018 while the unit was still under warranty, the heater stopped working, so I called him. He confirmed that it is still under warranty and fixed it after several trips. He charged me $575 for parts and labor. I asked him what the warranty was good for, and he said he still had to charge for the labor and "optional parts" since he changed the auto thermo to a manual one. He said it now has a one-year warranty. I was not happy about the high charge while it was under warranty, but agreed to pay $500 which he accepted. Then seven months later (in June 2019), I learned that the air conditioning did not cool at my first try in the season. He came and said that refrigerant was missing, offering "must have been stolen, neighborhood kids, you know." He was very vague, so I asked him many questions to understand what a refrigerant is. After many evasions, he eventually said that it is basically "gas" that fill four metal tubes in the unit. How could he, then, suggest such a thing could have been "stolen"! (Especially the HVAC unit is ON TOP OF THE ROOF and my house has a locked gate!) It was obvious he was trying to mislead me, not wanting to admit a leak. I pressed him if the unit has a leak, and he eventually conceded that it could well be the case, saying "the metal tubes may rub each other and make a hole." He kept making excuses "hey, I did not make the unit, so I cannot be responsible." I asked him if the leak possibly had to do with his working on the unit last October. He said that there is no such possibility since there are basically two separate units in the HVAC system side by side, and he had no reason to touch the Air Conditioning side when he fixed the Heating side last winter. Having lost my trust in his honesty, I am not sure if this is really an accurate explanation. His initial charge, $275 ($200 for refrigerant and $75 for labor), was reluctantly reduced to $200 when he saw how unhappy I was about the undetected leak. He said that he cannot give me any warranty for this fix. If it stops cooling again, he must pull the whole system apart to pinpoint where the leak occurs, which will be a very expensive operation. These experiences made me lose confidence in his workmanship, and more importantly, his honesty. read more

Great family owned business that will become the first and only people I call for all heating and AC work. I called them on the morning of the hottest day of the year and, while other places gave me wait times of 4-8 days, they came out within two hours. It was a tricky problem because it was related to my bad electrical panel but they spent several hours trying to diagnose the problem and came back first thing in the morning to finally fix it. I know that there are a lot of variables for problems like this when with old houses and strange wiring but I commend them on being committed to fix the problem and charge me for the cost of the solution rather than the time on site. Carlos is a seasoned expert in this stuff and I have no doubt that he could solve any problem that comes up in our system. read more

He was very busy due to the recent heat wave, but he made time to first come out and service the old unit to try to get it running and save us money. When that was futile and we agreed to go ahead with a new AC unit, he waived the cost of that initial visit. On the day we had the new unit installed, he and his crew were on time and worked quickly. This review is long overdue. My husband and I hired Carlos and his team to install an LG mini split system for our new home. Carlos came across as a friendly, respectable and an honest business person. Also, his positive reviews on Angie's List and moderate pricing drove us to hiring him for this installation. We scheduled a date and Carlos and team came out to begin the installation. Things were fine in the beginning and proceeded as expected. When there were challenges (e.g. beams behind the walls that prevented the lines to be hidden), there was no communication from Carlos to get our take on how we'd like to proceed. Instead, he made decisions for us and we ended up with ugly thick hoses coming from the ceiling into the units. Though, the team did what we asked and moved the unit to another wall without a support beam, many holes were left in the walls which they do not patch. When the installation was finally quote on quote complete we were able to use the system, but it was filled with problems. The condensation pumps installed in the upstairs units were incredible loud and had a strong vibration and the downstairs unit where condensation drain line connects was leaky. We got Carlos to come back multiples times to fix these issues but he was unsuccessful each time. In the end, we did not make our final payment and had to search for new team to complete the unfinished work. To this day, we continue to have problems with the units and it is incredibly difficult to find a team that wants to take on someone else's mickey mouse job.
