Beyti with a side of fries

Came back for dinner on a Tuesday night. I wanted something light so I had the lentil soup and the combo appetizer platter. I'm lactose intolerant so I asked if I could swap the haydari with some extra ezme instead and they were very accommodating. It was served with freshly griddled pita which went well with all the dips. I also enjoyed the chickpea salad. The soup was good too. My friend got a shrimp kebab which she loved. She said she was thinking about it since the last time she ordered it. The service was great too. The staff is always very friendly and nice!

Bursa remains one of our family favs. We came to celebrate a birthday abs ordered: 1. fresh sliced cucumber - big discs, crunchy and good. 2. Falafel - 4 per order. They didn't over cook or burned it this time and was good. Served with tahini. 3. Lentil soup - tasty but didn't have the umami flavor it did before. 4. Fries - crispy and not oily and generous portion. Entrees: salmon, beef and lamb koffie kebab, chicken kebab, lamb chops. I ordered my go to dish which I order every time I visit, beef stroganoff. It was cooked perfectly today, full of flavor, beef and chopped pickles and sliced mushrooms over rice pilaf. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. They get crowded early and don't take reservations, so going early for dinner recommended.

Bursa is a hidden gem located in the West Portal neighborhood. On a weeknight my party of 2 was able to just walk-in around 5:45 with no reservations. Service -- waiter seated us quickly and brought menus, took order. Very good service, also brought check as soon as I requested it. Ambiance - Nicely decorated with banquette seating along the wall, and also not noisy (it was around half full). Very colorful and pleasant. Food - Now for the best part -- really good Middle Eastern food! I saw the restaurant on Check Please Bay Area and it looked amazing. Since there were just 2 of us with smaller appetites, we split the hummus appetizer with fresh pita, and the falafel salad. The Falafels have cheese and raisins in them -- so good! If I visited again with 2 more people, they have a large appetizer plate that includes baba ganoush, hummus and 3 or 4 other foods to dip in. Wine list was also good, I had a very nice glass of Crossings Sauvignon Blanc. There is street parking but you might have to drive around a bit. We parked 2 blocks away. I definitely plan to return.

The food is always amazing here. top tier lentil soup, great dippers and the kebab plates are filling and wonderful complete with an excellent and nutritious side salad of arugula and plenty of rice! the service was nice, easy to call the staff over and they were really quick with the water refills and the restaurant is clean with plenty of booth seating (my favourite) I've been here several times and Im always excited to go back.

Came for lunch on a Sunday with a party of six. Restaurant was not busy and we were seated right away. The waitstaff was nice and attentive. We ordered an appetizer and various lunch combos: chicken kabobs, veg kabobs, wraps. These entrees came with rice, hummus and salad. The food didn't take long to serve. Everything was delicious, chicken was tasty and moist, salad was fresh. There is metered street parking on West Portal, but since we came on a Sunday, parking was free. If no parking available, the nearby streets will have some curb parking if you're lucky! Restaurant is clean, beautiful decor, and the restroom is unisex. Definitely a go to spot for delicious Mediterranean food in the city!

It has been a while since we have dined here. Came in over the weekend while we were in the neighborhood. The location. . . West Portal (I consider West Portal to be a hidden gem location) The decor. . . nice, clean and well thought out design and color scheme The menu . . . small with nice selections, and a couple of daily specials The food. . . Very good. But I have to admit not quite as exceptional as the first visit Musakka - this was different than you may be used to. Served in a dish and is more of a stew and less "lasagna-like". The eggplant, zucchini and potatoes were cooked perfectly (not mushy), the flavors were still good. The top notch service was excellent from beginning to end. I think it is all good.

Happy to have found this place! Very delicious, a wide variety of items to try. I got the lamb skewers, came with rice and a salad. Not a traditional Greek salad though. The spreads were all good. The staff was lovely. A little bit of a tight fit inside with a high chair but we made it work.

This was a nice find in the West Portal area. The food was amazing! Full of flavor. The lentil soup was delicious and the Adana kabob was full of flavor. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Cute nicely decorated restaurant you should visit!

    Spicy Adana wrap
    Nikole D.

Excellent restaurant nestled in the neighborhood of west portal. Great take on Mediterranean foods and flavors. Food: I had the spicy adana which was really good. But we ordered four of their other wraps and if I were to rate them it'd be: 1. Salmon 2. Citrus chicken 3. Spicy Adana 4. Kofte Now the spicy Adana and the kofte were almost the same taste. Which is not surprising because the only difference is the haydari. The salmon was fresh, had a good blend of each ingredient complimenting each other, and fills you up nicely. Same with the chicken, but salmon was just slightly better. Definitely will come back again!

    Marquise au chocolat April 2026

Just as good as our first visit. Glad they are consistent. This time we had room for dessert. Boy o boy!!! It was amazing! Kunefe was crazy good! The warm cheese and syrup were such good complements with the philo dough and crushed pistachios. The marquise au chocolat cake was decadent! When you have both desserts together, it's like a Dubai Chocolate, lol!!! Trust me and have room for dessert. You will thank me!

What a gem! Bursa is an absolute must-try. The baba ganoush was truly exceptional--delicate yet full of flavor--especially when paired with the soft, warm pita and that silky-smooth eggplant. The lamb and beef mixed koobideh was juicy and perfectly spiced with wonderful Mediterranean flavors. We also ordered the beef stroganoff, which was a delightful surprise and instantly became my favorite dish. Don't skip dessert--the homemade baklava is a must, with a generous layer of rich pistachio paste and perfectly crisp, delicate phyllo. Excellent service, plus pleasant indoor and outdoor seating, made the experience even better. Can't wait to come back!

    Bursa wine list

I had the chance to join a few friends for a 6 PM dinner at Bursaa charming yet narrow restaurant located in West Portal. Upon arrival, all the tables were occupied, and we were informed of a 10-15 minute wait. We added our name to the list, and within five minutes, a party was wrapping up and leaving their table. We seemed to have arrived at just the right time, as four more parties came in shortly after us. We were seated by a friendly host and introduced to our server, who was very attentive and handed us the dinner menu and wine list. As we browsed, we started some small talk and selected drinks. Two of us ordered the 2022 Crossings (New Zealand) Sauvignon Blanc, while our other friend chose Efes, a Turkish pilsner (a 300 ml bottle dated October 2024). For an appetizer, we ordered two plates of Dolmas ($6 each), which arrived with four pieces per plate and a refreshing cucumber yogurt sauce. The Dolmas, while flavorful, seemed as though they had been stored in a refrigerator and were slightly firmer than I prefer. That said, they delivered excellent flavor, with hints of herbs, mild spices like allspice and cumin, and what seemed to be pine nuts. Despite the thick texture, the grape leaves were a lovely start to our Turkish meal. For the main course, I debated between the Musakka and the kebabs and asked our server for her recommendation. She suggested the Adana Kebab if I wanted something spicy or the Köfte Kebab for a milder option. On her advice, I decided to combine both. My friends ordered the Musakka and the Beyti (ground beef and lamb wrapped in lavash). Before the food arrived, we had our 2018 Chimney Rock Elevage opened, enhancing the dining experience. The food preparation was impressively quick, and our dishes were served within 10 minutes of ordering. Each dish looked incredible. The Musakka arrived bubbling hot, the Beyti was beautifully presented with a dollop of yogurt and tomato sauce surrounding the lavash-wrapped pieces, and the kebabs were served over a bed of rice alongside a simple side salad. The Köfte came on a skewer, while the Adana kebabs were not. The kebabs were delicious. The Adana Kebab had a fiery spice, as promised, but it wasn't overpowering--it complemented the flavors well. While they appeared a bit dry at first glance, this wasn't the case; both were moist and flavorful. I enjoyed the Köfte slightly more than the Adana, but I would happily order both again. The Musakka, however, was a bit of a disappointment for my friend. The preparation wasn't what he expected, feeling more like a "Musakka surprise" than the traditional layered dish he'd had before. The Yukon potatoes were thicker than he preferred, and while the flavor was good, he mentioned he would choose something different next time. The Beyti, on the other hand, was a hit. My friend who ordered it had enjoyed it before and once again appreciated the flavorful mix of ground beef and lamb. The yogurt and tomato sauce were the perfect accompaniments, elevating the dish. All in all, it was a wonderful evening of good food and great company. Our total came to about $140, including corkage, which felt reasonable. The staff were professional and efficient, and the owner was present, engaging with diners--a nice personal touch. I would definitely recommend Bursa to anyone in the West Portal area looking for a delightful Turkish dining experience.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as the ambiance and waitstaff. ***OUR PICKS*** BEEF SHAWERMA ENTREE ~ the beef was overly salted, saffron rice was ok, hummus was really thick, like peanut butter. My guy ordered this and thought it was average. 3/5 LAMB SHISH KEBAB WRAP ~ this was my dish. I ate one half of the wrap and it only held two cubes of lamb meat. The lettuce and tomatoes made the wrap bland. The meat was seasoned, but everything was plain, so it needed more seasoning. Honestly, this was missing flavor! I'll have to add something to it when I eat the rest of this wrap at home. 2.5/5 HALF ROASTED CHICKEN AND RICE ~ Our friend ordered this dish. It needed more sumac. This tasted like plain roasted chicken. Maybe it needs more seasoning while marinating. It wasn't dry, so that's a relief. Rice was ok and it wasn't dry or soggy. 3.5 We've been spoiled and have had better food in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Nothing stood out for any of us. Prices are a bit high for what you get. Sadly, probably won't be back.

I'm sure there are other Persian cafés and restaurants as good as Lavash. I hardly stop to think about what made Lavash interesting. A clear teapot filled with saffron tea with rock candy on a stick; seen how they dip it in after pouring the tea. Interesting orange color indeed! A plate of zucchini, grape tomatoes, Moroccan mint leaves, and a pair of Bulgarian cheese; complimentary for my first visit here. Persian noodle soup, filled with beans, chickpeas, and lentils; loved the floral notes in every spoonful. Main course, veggie kabob on a bed of basmati rice drenched in saffron and spices, along with some onions and mushrooms, and of course, a large Lavash bread at the bottom to fill the whole plate. The best part is to completely sandwich wrap after I marginalized the contents on the plate. Ahhh! Satisfying to the last bite of herbs and spices. Arrived on time for our 8:30pm reservation and was greeted to the beautiful ambiance inside. Is this the romantic, cozy, enchanting restaurant of my dreams? I think so! Those amber lightbulbs did their duty here to make this place feel warm and inviting. We were seated and was greeted by the wonderful Gilberto! He was literally the star and highlight of our evening. Cracked a few jokes, talked about his fave dishes, we really had a ton of fun with him. A complete gem! As I walked through my restaurant, I sat down and said " I smelled melted cheese, whatever that is, I want it" It was the Saghanaki and I needed it in my life. Melty cheesy and delicious. I met her, tasted her, and now I need more. Now, I only recently had Octopus once of twice before, but this one here was fabulous! Tender, delicious, beautiful. I absolutely adored this. The smelts were so fun to eat! I called them protein fries. Little teeny tiny fishies, so crispy and flavorful. For our entree, we snagged the porkchop special. SO. FREAKING. GOOD! It felt special too since it was....a special. It wouldn't have been a true dinner with me if i didnt finish off the meal with a dessert wine. Normally I go for a port, but we were dining in Greece this evening, so I went with the Vin Santo. Absolutely lovely and perfect for the end of our meal. Beautiful visit over at Kokkari. The ambiance was great, the food was fantastic, and the service was incredible! I can absolutely see myself here at the bar, having a fancy meal, sipping on a lovely cocktail, and enjoying myself. Kokkari Estiatorio hit the mark across the board on ambiance, service and food. Ambiance: This was great for a fun girls date but would also be a wonderful date night or group gathering. The restaurant aesthetic is a little rustic and feels intimate, but it is actually quite large and was very lively early on a Saturday night. Although the restaurant is indoors, there are large windows that open to the street that make it feel more open and fresh. Service: Our waitress was very friendly and had the perfect balance of being attentive but also giving us time and space. She did a good job pacing different dishes and didn't rush us out at all. Food & drink: My friend and I ordered wine and a series of apps to share. First, there was a great selection of wines! I ordered a Chalbis, one of my favorites, and it didn't disappoint. The menu has a wide variety and it was hard to pick! We shared the saganaki (with house bread), chili garlic prawns, octopus, fried zucchini cakes, and two off-menu specials (a duck dish and an apricot arugula salad). Every dish had a unique flavor profile but they were all so good in their own respect. Some specific callouts: the bread was thick and crispy on the outside but incredibly soft on the inside, the octopus was perfectly charred but still tender, and the yogurt sauce with the fried zucchini cakes was "zesty" and refreshing. We also enjoyed the baklava and frozen yogurt for dessert. I think these were fair portion sizes for the price point. I would love to come back here!

It wasn't just the food they say, but the remarkable wine list, which turned the place into a see-and-be-seen spot akin to NYC's Elaine's (RIP). If this isn't quite how you imagine anyplace along SF's Clement Street, think again. Years later it's still packed (on a Friday night) and loud. Service was the sole miscue on my visit with 3 others. We were given menus and water but ignored after that, to a point where we reached out to get some wine and attention. As you can see from the 5-star assessment, no harm-no foul; once wine and food flowed all was forgiven. The menu required some explanation. It's not broken down in any discernible way, requiring the server to explain that all dishes ae meant to be shared and that the first several dishes are dips, then small plates, then larger. In truth, all seemed like small plates to me (or small servings) but if your wallet permits, you'll not be disappointed. There wasn't one thing we shared that we didn't 100% consume nor anything I'd not recommend. Since we sampled almost the entire menu I feel comfortable saying that everything is delicious and attractively presented. We left the alcohol order to the one at our table who'd chosen Kitchen Istanbul and she summoned the sommelier and gave him free reign. He asked what we like (hearty reds) and what we wished to spend (about $75/bottle) and we enjoyed 2 completely unique offerings that we'd not have known to choose for ourselves. He was also tasked with pairing two of the dessert wines with two of the chosen desserts and they were as enjoyable as the wines served with dinner. It's fair to say that the sommelier had fun with our table, stopping by before we left to say how much he'd appreciated the opportunity to choose for us and for us placing our trust in him. Like the rest of the City I was following Sam Smith's food journey during his time here.
