We usually order their Tea Leaf Salad, BBQ Pork Garlic Noodles, Crispy Angel Wings, Braised Beef Short Ribs, Crispy Garlic Green Beans, and Coconut Rice. Seeing high Yelp ratings for Burmatown, we decided to check it out this evening, since we crossed the GG bridge for the day. There was a bit of a wait, but it wasn't for long. I think it was about a 15-20-minute wait for a table outside. And it was only 5:30 pm! Though to warn you, there were flies and you'd have to keep batting at them while eating! So if I had to choose again, I'd say indoors is best, but I'm sure the wait would have been longer! Burmatown staff were personable, nice, and attentive. They refilled our waters and checked on us while eating. We chose a few of their most popular items on the menu. So glad we did! We were quite satisfied! Tea Leaf Salad was tasty and unusual with the different seeds and such in it. (Burmese fermented tea leaves, green cabbage, romaine hearts, dried shrimp, mixed Burmese beans, peanuts, seeds, fried garlic, jalapeño, tomato, lemon, and fish sauce.) 4/5 Crispy Angel Wings were really good! (Lightly battered wings dipped in house-made chili garlic gochujang sauce with sesame and cilantro.) I think this was our favorite among the dishes we chose. They were crispy, and sweet yet not overly sweet and they had some tang to them as well. It was perfectly balanced. LOVED the wings!! YUM!!! 5/5 Spicy Hawaiian Kalbi Ribs had some kick with savory and sweetness much like you'd expect for Korean Kalbi! Plenty of garlic noodles and a good amount of ribs fill the plate. This isn't a Burmese dish, but a fusion dish. 5/5 Platha and dip was nice! (Crispy multi-layered flaky bread coconut curry dipping sauce) Platha was crispy and flakey! The curry dipping sauce was flavorful. The edges were extra crunchy, enjoyable and SO GOOD! 5/5 Great spot with great food! So if you're ever in the area, try Burmatown!! read more

How have I never reviewed this spot? It is hands down our favorite restaurant in the North Bay. I've never been to an authentic Burmese restaurant, so I am judging solely on quality of the food and kindness of the staff - 100% worth the drive, cost, experience! We try to go as often as we can; usually after hikes in the area or on our way to SF for date night. Anytime is a good time! We usually luck out on the wait because we hit it early to avoid the crowds which is a bonus since it's a good 45 minute drive already to get there. Their wine and beer list has steadily improved over the years which is nice because their food is and has always been top notch in our book. Favorites every time for us are Angel wings and the tea leaf salad. I love the bbq pork noodles, after that we switch it up and it depends on how hungry we are. This is one of those spots that if you can it is worth saving room for dessert because it is worth the calories! Super nice family owned spot; completely reasonable prices and always delicious food. Yowza. That braised beef short ribs was PHENOmenal. Extremely tender with a very mild spicy and creamy curry, with just the right balance of coconut and tomato. Impressive flavors and texture! The tea leaf salad was enjoyable as well with crisp veggies and crunchy nuts. Unlike other tea leaf salads, this one was not bitter but had fish sauce, which gave it a nice tang. That lingering fish taste may not suit your specific taste buds, but it did mine. read more

Update: A very kind and sweet person named Jennifer just contacted me & offered us a coconut cake on the house upon our return with an apology. We will definitely be back for more noodles, yummy appetizers and some cake. Extra star added for great customer service.. And hopefully it'll be 5 stars after our next visit. Had a fun time here. The noodles and appetizers were very good and reasonably priced. The Tea leaf salad was great too. Sadly though the black miso cod was super disappointing, as was the coconut rice. They were just very bland. The cod dish was watery and tasteless. Our waitress was very nice until we asked "politely" if we could send back the bread pudding we had ordered for dessert. We had one taste each it was overwhelmingly sweet. 3 different kinds of fruits banana, strawberry, and cherries all together - it was SO sickly. We probably should have had the coconut cake instead. When we told our waitress we couldn't eat it, she went from friendly to ice cold in a second, and immediately brought our bill without asking if we'd maybe like to sub with something else. We were quite taken aback. To summarize I'd say we have mixed feelings about BurmaTown. read more

One of my absolute favorite spots in Marin. The flavors are fantastic in just about everything and it never disappoints. Even my two kids (8 and 6) really enjoyed everything we got. I used to live in Alameda, and Burma Superstar was one of my favorite places. So happy to have discovered Burmatown and can't believe I'm saying this, but I liked the tea leaf salad at Burmatown better than the one at Superstar, and I loooooved the one at Burma Superstar. As a vegan, I've been frustrated at the vegan choices here in Marin, so it was amazing to find this restaurant. They clearly label if a dish is vegan or can be made vegan, which is so appreciated! My meat-eating/vegetable avoidant dad and nephew devoured the tea leaf salad, which was great for me to see, but also meant less salad for me, so you know, I maybe should dock a star. I got the vegetable and tofu stir fry with coconut rice. Lots of different veggies. Really good! My dad and nephew shared the braised beef short ribs and three baos and were very happy! It's nice to have found a place where I can unapologetically eat vegan. I'll definitely be back! Server was great. Filled our water cups very frequently. Food came promptly. He answered all questions and even went back to the kitchen to get specific information on a dish my dad was considering. There was a wait but the servers were giving chairs outside and inside so people could sit while they waited. My dad is 89 so it was really appreciated that they noticed he would need a chair. Burmatown is a culinary bright spot in Marin County. The tea leaf salad is among the best salads I have ever had. The garlic noodles (with or without BBQ pork) are delicious. The Thai basil stir fry with shrimp has just the right spice with green beans that are the perfect texture with just the right crunch. The food staff are friendly and provide great service. The small restaurant has good ambiance and the minute you walk in your nose will tell you that there some great food on its way. I highly recommend Burmatown and if you are lucky you might get to meet Jenny, the lovely proprietor. read more

Also realized that this is the perfect portion size for a party of 3. - Tea Leaf Salad: I was mortified to realize that I forgot to tell the staff about my peanut allergy, and they were kind enough to remake the salad with peanuts on the side. :( Generous topping selection and portion size tossed tableside -- we'd order this again in a heartbeat. - Oxtail Stew: Nice and comforting on a cold and windy day. Comes with whole potatoes and large carrot chunks. This is superb with coconut rice! We swung by at around 7PM for dinner and were quoted about an hour wait for indoor seating. We eventually decided to brave the cold in order to eat sooner, which was honestly an equally great experience given the powerful heat lamps supplied for outdoor diners. Once all the other outdoor diners left, they were nice enough to bring another heater to us so that we were flanked on all sides by heat sources. I've been to Burmatown a good number of times over the years, and was excited to visit their newer location. We arrived around 5 PM, and was advised that the wait would be about 10-15 minutes. We ended up waiting for over a full hour before we were finally seated. It was an incredibly difficult wait since we had a toddler with us as well. Unfortunately, our meal was put to a poor start with the wait being significantly longer than anticipated. We were grateful that the food was as good as we remembered it. Some of our favorite items were out of stock as well, so we were unable to get the braised beef short ribs. We tried the oxtail stew instead, which was quite good as well. Their garlic noodle was a favorite of ours, and it did not disappoint. Our toddler was a fan of it as well! He also enjoyed the coconut rice. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, but the wait being so off from expectations was incredibly disappointing. In the future, we may just opt for take out to avoid the wait. read more

Burmatown is really good. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Marin. You have to get there early to get a table. They open at 4:30. It's crowded and busy but very warm and welcoming ambiance. Every dish is excellent. So much so that none stand out from each other. We plan to eventually try everything on the menu. You have to pat a few bucks extra for hot sauce but it's worth it. UPDATE: After our poor take out experience last night, the restaurant offered to make it up to us. They are fairly compensating us as well as offering something extra on our next visit. We came in on this rainy Friday between Christmas and New Years. No reservation, no waitlist. Just walked in. Parking was to see in the dark and in the rain, so I dropped off my wife and went to go look for parking (found around the corner). Staff was cheerful and updated us on status. We got a table and ordered. 1 x Tea Leaf Salad 2 x Platha 1 x Pork & Shrimp dumplings 1 x Kalbi Short ribs To be honest, it wasn't as good as I remembered it. I have a rule that if I'm ever in Marin around dinner time, we eat here. But given the price, there was quite a bit of value here. If I can give more than 5 stars, I would. This place deserves all the recognition! I'm not in the area like ever, but I would come here just for this place. Things you should know: parking is challenging as it's in the middle of residential and on the main street. It's small. And the wait begins at 430pm-5pm. My friends and I went in, you can probably tell by the pics! We ordered almost everything and one of my friends is Burmese and was impressed which, I think, says a lot. For my fellow POCs, we did notice that we were the only ethnic group in the entire outdoor area. But don't let that make you miss out on this place. There's so much we ordered to even name them all but the highlights for our table were the Mohinga (fish chowder), short rib curry, garlic noodles, bao tacos, and ube and match desserts. Mohinga comes with noodles so it's a soup. It's not hella fishy which was good and also had such great flavor. The short rib was tender and fell off the bone. The curry had a nice kick to it as well. Garlic noodles were tasty and not your typical oily noods. The bao tacos were bomb, I think the coleslaw is what made it stand out. The ube pudding, we expected it to be like jello, but it was a pleasant surprise when we saw it was more like tapioca and saucy. Matcha panna cotta was perfection, you definitely could taste the authentic matcha in it. Every dessert came with ice cream so just be cautious of that. We obviously couldn't eat all of it but we also ordered like 4 desserts, haha! Left this place with a happy heart and a full stomach. We really like this place! We had the everything we've had has been absolutely delicious. My favorites are the Bao and garlic noodles. Their dessert are also to die for. It's never too sweet and the menu changes. The Bao has incredibly delicate pita type bread. The slaw on top is fresh, crunchy and a little sweet. The meat is on another level of delicious. It's tender and literally melts in your mouth. The chicken curry is incredible. The chicken is very tender and the curry spice is not overwhelmingly. The pumpkin is not over done The garlic noodles are one of the best I've had in the Bay Area. Believe it or not, the garlic is not over the top and the serving is a pretty good portion. Their dessert? Wow! I've had the ube (purple yam) tapioca with young coconut meat. I've also had the mango tapioca with matcha ice cream. They were not overly sweet and it was very refreshing. Note: They open at 4PM and the line grows quickly since there's only 2 tables inside and 10 tables outside. Parking can also be a challenge though we've never had either problems since we come early.
