The tea leaf salad was enjoyable as well with crisp veggies and crunchy nuts. Unlike other tea leaf salads, this one was not bitter but had fish sauce, which gave it a nice tang. One of my absolute favorite spots in Marin. The flavors are fantastic in just about everything and it never disappoints. Even my two kids (8 and 6) really enjoyed everything we got. I used to live in Alameda, and Burma Superstar was one of my favorite places. So happy to have discovered Burmatown and can't believe I'm saying this, but I liked the tea leaf salad at Burmatown better than the one at Superstar, and I loooooved the one at Burma Superstar. As a vegan, I've been frustrated at the vegan choices here in Marin, so it was amazing to find this restaurant. They clearly label if a dish is vegan or can be made vegan, which is so appreciated! My meat-eating/vegetable avoidant dad and nephew devoured the tea leaf salad, which was great for me to see, but also meant less salad for me, so you know, I maybe should dock a star. I got the vegetable and tofu stir fry with coconut rice. Lots of different veggies. Really good! My dad and nephew shared the braised beef short ribs and three baos and were very happy! It's nice to have found a place where I can unapologetically eat vegan. I'll definitely be back! Server was great. Filled our water cups very frequently. Food came promptly. He answered all questions and even went back to the kitchen to get specific information on a dish my dad was considering. There was a wait but the servers were giving chairs outside and inside so people could sit while they waited. My dad is 89 so it was really appreciated that they noticed he would need a chair. Burmatown is a culinary bright spot in Marin County. The tea leaf salad is among the best salads I have ever had. The garlic noodles (with or without BBQ pork) are delicious. The Thai basil stir fry with shrimp has just the right spice with green beans that are the perfect texture with just the right crunch. The food staff are friendly and provide great service. The small restaurant has good ambiance and the minute you walk in your nose will tell you that there some great food on its way. Also realized that this is the perfect portion size for a party of 3. - Tea Leaf Salad: I was mortified to realize that I forgot to tell the staff about my peanut allergy, and they were kind enough to remake the salad with peanuts on the side. :( Generous topping selection and portion size tossed tableside -- we'd order this again in a heartbeat. - Oxtail Stew: Nice and comforting on a cold and windy day. Comes with whole potatoes and large carrot chunks. This is superb with coconut rice! We swung by at around 7PM for dinner and were quoted about an hour wait for indoor seating. We eventually decided to brave the cold in order to eat sooner, which was honestly an equally great experience given the powerful heat lamps supplied for outdoor diners. Once all the other outdoor diners left, they were nice enough to bring another heater to us so that we were flanked on all sides by heat sources. We love Burmatown! The food is delicious and service is very good! We always look forward to our dinners there.

I've been to Burmatown a good number of times over the years, and was excited to visit their newer location. We arrived around 5 PM, and was advised that the wait would be about 10-15 minutes. We ended up waiting for over a full hour before we were finally seated. It was an incredibly difficult wait since we had a toddler with us as well. Unfortunately, our meal was put to a poor start with the wait being significantly longer than anticipated. We were grateful that the food was as good as we remembered it. Some of our favorite items were out of stock as well, so we were unable to get the braised beef short ribs. We tried the oxtail stew instead, which was quite good as well. Their garlic noodle was a favorite of ours, and it did not disappoint. Our toddler was a fan of it as well! He also enjoyed the coconut rice. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, but the wait being so off from expectations was incredibly disappointing. In the future, we may just opt for take out to avoid the wait. read more

Burmatown is really good. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Marin. You have to get there early to get a table. They open at 4:30. It's crowded and busy but very warm and welcoming ambiance. We came in on this rainy Friday between Christmas and New Years. No reservation, no waitlist. Just walked in. Parking was to see in the dark and in the rain, so I dropped off my wife and went to go look for parking (found around the corner). Staff was cheerful and updated us on status. We got a table and ordered. 1 x Tea Leaf Salad 2 x Platha 1 x Pork & Shrimp dumplings 1 x Kalbi Short ribs To be honest, it wasn't as good as I remembered it. I have a rule that if I'm ever in Marin around dinner time, we eat here. But given the price, there was quite a bit of value here. The coconut cake dessert was not good at all but the staff were nice. I would return to try the chicken curry dish. I was originally curious about that one. The team was incredibly responsive to late minute changes and I was also able to order appetizers via text well in advance. Day of the dinner, appetizers were brought out unprompted when we all got situated and no issues at all ordering drinks and additional entrees for 14 people. Food 4.5/5: The food was good for the most part. For appetizers, we had the tea leaf salad, platha dip, and wings. The wings were ABSOLUTELY FIRE. I personally had their garlic noodles and tacos for entrees and those were pretty good. Finally ate @ BUrmatown and it lived up to all the hype. Love the space, ambiance and dining options (order inside and eat outside, bar, booths, tables and communal table. The tea leaf salad was incredible! Bursting with flavors I'd be hard pressed not to order it on every visit. The Burmatown Bay with ginger chicken were delicate and delicious. The Basil shrimp stir fry was yummy but was served with green beans, which would have been nice to know, as we ordered the Chili garlic green beans and took all of them home. Lastly, we had the Miso glazed black cod as it was a special. It was delicate and served in a broth. It was definitely the mildest dish of everything we tried. We ordered the coconut rice to go with the dish based on the bartenders recommendation. They have a small but well curated wine list and I appreciated that there are a number of french wines on the menu which pair better with Asian food than many American wines that can overpower the food. We ate at the bar. The service was a little slow and the bartender didn't seem as if she enjoyed her job. I will definitely make an effort to eat @ Burmatown more as the food was fantastic and reminded me a bit of Dragon Well in San Francisco. read more

We had an amazing experience for my husband's birthday! In order of deliciousness: Miso black cod: perfectly cooked, laying atop a bed of freshly cooked vegetables, halfway submerged in the most beautiful broth Braised short rib: tender and completely cohesive with the sweet and spicy coconut curry. Must eat with rice! So yummy! Green beans: crispy and spicy and the definition of umami Angel wings: crispy and saucy. I just had to dip each bite into that sweet and salty sauce in the bowl because I couldn't get enough. Cha siu garlic noodles: ordered this one for the kids. They finished the leftovers the next day. Noodles were not greasy like most places and just simple and delicious. The service was superb! It was unexpectedly attentive and genuine, from everyone who worked there all the way to the owner who came out of the kitchen to speak with us. The restaurant was packed and understandably so. We really like this place! We had the everything we've had has been absolutely delicious. My favorites are the Bao and garlic noodles. Their dessert are also to die for. It's never too sweet and the menu changes. The Bao has incredibly delicate pita type bread. The slaw on top is fresh, crunchy and a little sweet. The meat is on another level of delicious. It's tender and literally melts in your mouth. The chicken curry is incredible. The chicken is very tender and the curry spice is not overwhelmingly. The pumpkin is not over done The garlic noodles are one of the best I've had in the Bay Area. Believe it or not, the garlic is not over the top and the serving is a pretty good portion. Their dessert? Wow! I've had the ube (purple yam) tapioca with young coconut meat. I've also had the mango tapioca with matcha ice cream. They were not overly sweet and it was very refreshing. Note: They open at 4PM and the line grows quickly since there's only 2 tables inside and 10 tables outside. Parking can also be a challenge though we've never had either problems since we come early. If I can give more than 5 stars, I would. This place deserves all the recognition! I'm not in the area like ever, but I would come here just for this place. Things you should know: parking is challenging as it's in the middle of residential and on the main street. It's small. And the wait begins at 430pm-5pm. My friends and I went in, you can probably tell by the pics! We ordered almost everything and one of my friends is Burmese and was impressed which, I think, says a lot. For my fellow POCs, we did notice that we were the only ethnic group in the entire outdoor area. But don't let that make you miss out on this place. There's so much we ordered to even name them all but the highlights for our table were the Mohinga (fish chowder), short rib curry, garlic noodles, bao tacos, and ube and match desserts. Mohinga comes with noodles so it's a soup. It's not hella fishy which was good and also had such great flavor. The short rib was tender and fell off the bone. The curry had a nice kick to it as well. Garlic noodles were tasty and not your typical oily noods. The bao tacos were bomb, I think the coleslaw is what made it stand out. The ube pudding, we expected it to be like jello, but it was a pleasant surprise when we saw it was more like tapioca and saucy. Matcha panna cotta was perfection, you definitely could taste the authentic matcha in it. Every dessert came with ice cream so just be cautious of that. We obviously couldn't eat all of it but we also ordered like 4 desserts, haha! Left this place with a happy heart and a full stomach. Brought here by good friends while we were in town visiting. Parking is limited, but we found street parking close by. We came right when they opened and within 10 minutes there was a line out the door. It's super busy because it is SOO good! The inside is really nice, very updated and sleek. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive even with a packed house. Every single thing we had was incredible! Must try's- Tea leaf salad, platha w/ sauce & pork garlic noodles!
