Nice and quiet Burmese restaurant located at the top of the hill in Daly City, there is some street parking and it might be hard to find parking in the neighborhood. It's a nice spot to have dinner and catch up with friends, service is good you either get hot tea or water. And it's not too busy. We got their tea leaf salad, coconut chicken noodle soup, chicken and potato curry with roti, and pan fried egg noodle with chicken (reminded me of Filipino pancit). The portions were pretty good and the food was fresh. I wasn't that big of a fan of their tea leaf salad. It was nice and spacious inside too and we didn't feel rushed.

Food is delicious, service is fine. Ambiance is just ok. Portion sizes are quite small.

Went on a Thursday at 7:30pm, the place had plenty of seating. We were serviced immediately and given insightful recommendations about what the signature dishes were. I enjoyed the roti, and the chicken slid right off the bone. The tea leaf salad was also pretty good. Interior is clean and spacious.

My friend and I arrived at 10am and both ordered the Burmese Fish Chowder Soup from the breakfast menu. We wanted to have breakfast/brunch since we're going hiking afterwards and the price is cheaper for breakfast. Only $10.99 instead of around $15 during lunch. It's a good deal for breakfast since it was a good portion size despite having very few pieces of fish. The one on the plate is sliced fish ball and no bones. A few small pieces in the soup but soup was very yummy so I drank all of it. It is not spicy which I prefer. There is also vermicelli noodles on the plate that we added to the soup, sliced egg, and crispy toppings. No tea leaf salad on the breakfast menu though and they only provide wooden disposable chopsticks instead of the real ones. Service is ok since waitress asked if we want water or tea but didn't mention tea is not complimentary like at some Chinese restaurants until I asked for clarification. A lot of interesting decorations. There is 1 co-ed restroom. Meter parking outside but we got lucky and parked at a broken meter!

Went to Burma Silver Star with a Burmese friend. Let me start with my friends comment: this is one of the most authentic Burmese food he has tasted in a while! (That's pretty high commendation). We ordered tea leaves salad, burmese tea, samosa, lamb stew and balala (?sticky rice desert) The food taste awesome. It was just the service is a bit slow as it looks like a mom and pop family shop. There are plenty of seating inside and on street parking. Highly recommend!

Burma Superstar? Nah, the true Burmese Star is here! We ate a variety of dishes, including two of their specials: Shan Noodles and Mandalay Noodles. The specials are on their Facebook page, "Burma Silver Star Restaurant (Little Yangon)". Everything was delicious, with some flavors that were indescribable. Some highlights were the Burmese Mango Pickle Salad and the two specials. Stellar service too, the waitress gave great recs and was very attentive. The hospitable owner/chef also chatted with us about the restaurant and opened the door for us when we were done eating. Don't let the nondescript exterior fool you, RUN don't walk to this amazing family-owned restaurant!

Soe is a great chef and made us feel so welcomed.

I found Burma Silver Star via ChatGPT and I am so glad I did. We celebrated my daughter's 16th birthday last night with over 20 family and friends and Burma Silver Star was the perfect location. The staff as warm, welcoming, accommodating, and full of joy. It felt like being at grandma's house. We felt at home and were treated with care. As a group with vegetarian, vegans, and food allergies they did an amazing job of assuring everyone could eat. The food was fresh, flavorful and so filling. Thank you all for the excellent service. We will be back. If you are considering a place for delicious food where you can be completely satisfied and treated with care, this is the place. Shout out to the owner Soe. He came out and greeted everyone in my family to show his appreciation for us supporting his business. This made me remember why I love The Bay. This is what old school Bay Area culture felt like. So glad to be able to tap into that good energy

Our family favorite food even come every time we still love it very much this is the best Burmese food near us love it

TD;DR ---- 3/5 stars. I've had better Burmese food, whether restaurant fare or someone's home-cooked meals. Not bad, just not good enough for me to come back anytime soon. The FOOD ---- 1. Burmese Coconut Chicken Soup: Good portion, enough for four people to divide into small bowls equally to share. More watery texture than I would like; flavor also needs to be stronger. 2. Khouk Swe Thoke (Noodle Salad): Good, strong flavor; was tasty. Where was the strength in flavor in some of the other dishes? 3. Tea Leaf Salad: I liked that they used cabbage instead of lettuce. Tasty. 4. Chicken Curry Potatoes with Pratha: This was extremely disappointing. For a dish that is served with pratha, you the expectation would be that there is enough sauce to pair it with . The chicken was dry and lacked stronger flavors, and the amount of curry sauce felt like it was just a small amount of natural juices that came out of the chicken and whatever spices it was cooked in. (I looked at photos by other reviewers after our experience and we had less sauce than they did.) Felt more like chicken curry leftovers than a dish I would want to eat again. Pratha was also not crispy. Sauce to Pratha ratio was way off. The SETTING ---- Open, spacious. Service was a little on the slower side. The VERDICT -- Given the generous reviews left by others, I do wonder if they were having an off-night or if the food just wasn't to my liking. The other members of the party agreed that this was not close to the best Burmese food they've had either. To top it off, it was disappointing that they didn't have a Burmese staple dish (Mohinga) available that day.

My new favorite place for comfort food. I ordered the coconut chicken noodle soup which was creamy and savory. There were hearty chucks of chicken and noodles in the soup along with a few sides. The noddles come separately with sides which you add to your broth. Very large portion that you can easily share. My partner ordered the egg curry and vegetables. Which came in a delicious curry sauce and had okra. He also ordered a side of coconut rice which had a slight sweetness to it. Every bite was so delectable. He devoured the whole dish. The owner gave us complimentary samosa which were very delightful. Amazing spices mixed in mashed potatoes. I would recommend them. Such a lovely place with lots of seating inside. The owner and wait staff are very friendly and you can tell this is a wonderful place to come and enjoy food with family and friends. We couldn't get enough of our food and were even more thrilled to get a chance to speak to the owner and hear his stories about living in Burma. Such a sweet and kind individual who honestly loves his family and his restaurant.

I would say 4 stars is generous--definitely somewhere in between a 3.5 & 4 in terms of food--dependent on what you order. Service was good & attentive. We got there around noon just before the lunch rush and it was empty. Within a short window the tables started filling up. They have a great variety of foods, curries, rice & noodle dishes. We ordered the tealeaf salad, chicken curry potatoes with pratha & home style fried rice. Everything we ordered had good flavor but there were a few observations--the tealeaf salad was delicious, however, I thought it was too salty and too much citrus or fish sauce--there was quite a tang...my entire party agreed with me. Despite that, I still consider the salad to be quite tasty. Next came the curry chicken & pratha. I loved the flaky doughy pancake. The curry had good flavor too, however, the sauce was a little thin, as in watery--not watered down. I was hoping for something with a creamier consistency. The fried rice was very delicious, it was served with a scrambled egg on top--this was probably my favorite of all the dishes we ordered. If you're near Top of the Hill Daly City, it's worth checking out. They're not far from the intersection of John Daly and Mission.

Highly highly recommend Burma Silver Star Restaurant in Daly City! Visiting family in SF and happened to choose this restaurant out of the many Burmese places around, and very glad we did. Whether you are in Daly City itself or coming from the city, it's just a short drive away. For us, it was as short a drive from where we are in SF as it is to visit other neighborhoods actually in SF. Parking was easy to find with plenty around the corner. The restaurant was very clean and the owner was super welcoming and friendly, and shared a lot of interesting info about Burma and Burmese cuisine. Hot, fresh tea was plentiful and extremely welcome on a chilly, foggy evening. The food was amazing, too. We shared a Tealeaf Salad, Samosa (4pcs), Chicken Curry Potatoes with Pratha, and Faluda for dessert. Their tea leaf salad was a great and especially fresh rendition, with well-balanced flavors and awesome crunch. It's hard to go wrong with samosas, and these were particularly good; piping hot and crispy with a perfectly seasoned filling. The curry was a new dish for us and we loved it. Mild yet flavorful, and supremely comforting. The paratha were, of course, buttery and addictive. The dessert was another new dish for us and we weren't sure how we'd feel about the rose, but we ended up loving it. The rose was the perfect amount, not heavy-handed at all, and the whole thing was kind of like a Burmese halo-halo; all in all, very fun to eat. Don't normally leave restaurant reviews but had to for this one. Cannot say enough good things and definitely recommend Burma Silver Star Restaurant!

Decided to meet up with a friend here for dinner. They open at 5pm and I got there right at opening. I was greeted upon walking by the chef, only said hello and the rest of the night we were served by what looked like his son? little kid, nice kid Good hospitality but I wasn't too impressed with the food. It didn't taste fresh and it wasn't hot enough...it was just warm. The restaurant looked clean and the decor is cute. 1st try here but it's not something i'd try again. i'll def give other Burma restaurants a try. This is not a bad review.... definitely give this place a try and judge for yourself

While there are a few highlights, several dishes don't quite justify the premium pricing. The Burmese beef and lamb curries are really good--the meat is consistently tender and the flavors are deep and well-developed. We also really enjoyed the rainbow salad and the paratha with curry sauce, though both felt overpriced for what they are. Other menu items have been disappointing: * Catfish Chowder: This was fairly average and bore a strange resemblance to pea soup. * Walnut Broccoli Chicken: Another mediocre dish that failed to leave an impression.

This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

The service here is night and day compared to Burma superstar. The service here is exponentially better, the staff is super friendly, incredibly attentive, and they make everyone feel very welcomed. The food on the other hand just is not great. Yes this place is always packed apparently, and it may be out of convenience. I found that everything that we ordered with the exception of the coconut rice fell flat. This is one of those moments that hurt your heart because I want to give them huge accolades, but it's just not there. We ordered the platha. It was tasty, but it also did not taste super fresh. The dipping sauce that it comes with (opted for chicken) and kept digging around the small bowl to find pieces of chicken that were nonexistent. The up charge of a dollar for the chicken dipping sauce that did not have chicken in it super disappointing. The sauce was tasty, but definitely not worth the up charge. Our server encouraged us to get the tea salad, which is definitely something. Someone should try if you've never had it before. The mixture of fresh veggies, the light sauce and the herbs, make for a very fresh bite. I would've been thrilled if late shredded chicken could be added to this for a different style dish. It would be super tasty. The salad was good, but not my style, but everyone else enjoyed it. We ordered the beef curry and the coconut rice. I absolutely want to emphasize how incredible the staff is. Their service and attentiveness absolutely should be acknowledged over and over again. The coconut rice at this location is exponentially better than at the other restaurant that we tried. This was a combination of light, fluffy, and absolutely flavorful delicious rice. The beef curry was incredibly disappointing. The beef was well done not done well. It was tough, overly chewy, and the flavor profile was just not good. It was missing something and even the light curry broth that the meat was sitting in well, good wasn't fantastic. The drinks seem pricier here, and the mango lassie, while good, was just OK. It tasted more like watered down mango. For dessert, we tried the black rice. This is definitely worth trying. It's a heavier dessert and probably a bit much after what felt like an uncomfortable dinner. The coconut sauce that it's sitting in is delicious and I can see why so many people enjoy it, and maybe if the strawberries were tastier the combination of all of the flavors may have made a difference. I definitely think it's something worth trying, but maybe elsewhere, or with different items for dinner.

The salad was crunchy, nutty, spicy, umami, and refreshing all at the same time, and there was a generous amount of the deliciously salty and tangy tea leaf dressing (much more than in versions of this salad from other restaurants)! Next, the Fish Noodle Soup was a spiced chowder with rice noodles, catfish, egg, cilantro, and fried yellow bean--a hearty, warming dish. The Lamb Curry with Potato was made of tender chunks of lamb in an oily spiced curry, served with a flaky pan-fried Parata; and the Chicken Drumstick Curry came with two braised drumsticks in a flavorful spice mixture, served with spiced yellow rice mixed with raisins and green peas, topped with crispy onions, pickled onions, and fried chilies! Of the two curries, I preferred the flavor of the Chicken Curry, but the tender meat of the Lamb Curry. The Parata was crispy and buttery, and the yellow rice with toppings had an incredible flavor and combination of textures. Overall, the food here was seriously delicious, and this super friendly restaurant is worth going out of the way to visit!

It's ok. I dined in once with my partner and we ordered Ono kauk swe (coconut curry noodles) and…read moremohinga. During the other times we've done takeout, the other dishes were unmemorable. The mohinga was fine but the ono kauk swe was awful. The coconut milk + red oil that makes up the soup was not integrated well. It seemed like they just microwaved a leftover bowl for me, and the noodles were overcooked. From what I remember, it was kind of chunky too. The entire bowl consisted of noodles absorbing the soup. If I wanted to eat awful Burmese food, I could just eat at home for free. There's other Burmese restaurants you can support in Fremont that don't taste like someone's blind grandma made it.
