Absolutely pleased with the fine fare we had for dinner last night at Burmatown. This place is always so hard to get in to, and we see why. The food is fantastic, the drink choices are top notch, and service was efficient. We had the tea leaf salad (a MUST), chef's special rice rolls app made vegan w tofu, silken tofu (spicy but oooohhhh so good), and the mushroom noodle entree. We were so full, but still had the mango tapioca dessert (vegan by omitting ice cream and whip cream). We each also had a glass of white wine, a blend for me and Gruner Veltliner for my husband. Definitely recommend, and we will be back again soon!

We had to wait for a while to get a table for 3 on a Friday night. We were told 30-40 mins, but the wait ended up being just over an hour. Nonetheless, our expectations were high. We ordered a bunch of things: - Shrimp and pork dumplings - 4/5. 6 dumplings in soy sauce. Lukewarm temperature. - Bbq pork garlic noodles - 4/5. The pork was flavorful, with the garlic noodles having a slightly sweet taste. Again disappointed with the dish being lukewarm when served. - Bao - 4/5. We got 2; beef and shrimp. - Tea leaf salad - 5/5. Hit the spot with the flavors and textures - Miso cod - 5/5. Complex flavors and delicious and well cooked cod. - Thai tea panna cota - 2/5. Disappointed with this one.

Chicken and squash curry with coconut rice. Fabulously complex flavors and I have had many types of curries!

Brought my friend here today to celebrate her birthday. The restaurant was packed lunchtime Thursday! The chicken and squash curry and the beef curry were sold out. We had the delicious tea leaf salad, the pork curry, coconut rice and the garlic mushroom noodles. Everything was great! My friend thanked the chef!!! I was so happy to introduce my friend to terrific Burmese food. Marin County is fortunate to have Burmatown! This is a family-run restaurant, very welcoming!

This is a dessert they brought out from my mom's birthday. I think this is there... Coconut Tapioca Pudding.

I meant to write this review last weekend. This is one of those places that I will never forget! I will definitely have to go back again and soon!!! The food was so good and the service was excellent!!! This place was packed when we got there. Yet, every single server and one of the owners was at our table. At one point or another. Excellent customer service!!! The prices are super reasonable. Especially when you look at somewhere like Burma Superstar! I love the food there, but this is even better!!! Which I never thought I would say. Their Tea Leaf Salad... was so good!!! if you've never had it... I would highly recommend trying it! It won't be at all like what you think it'll be. Just make sure to read all the ingredients. Since there are nuts in it. We ordered the Thai Basil Shrimp Stir Fry. Our waiter Max, recommended that we get rid of the green beans and get mixed vegetables instead. Which was such a good suggestion!!! The mixed vegetables were a perfect blend. So dang delicious!!! Especially since we already ordered... the Chili Garlic Green Beans. That would've just been overkill on green beans! These green beans were crisp and delicious!!! Yum!!! We ordered... the Mushroom Medley Garlic Noodles. These were so good!!! They're even better than the next day! Sense of absorb of all the flavor of the mushrooms and garlic. So amazingly delicious!!! definitely one of my favorite dishes! We ordered... the Coconut Chicken Curry with Squash. I wasn't as impressed with this dish. Only because it doesn't have a very strong curry flavor. It definitely tasted better the next day! Even the squash tasted better than the next day. Since it absorbed more of the curry flavor. I don't think I would've ordered this dish again. Yet, I'm sure they have so many other great dishes to order. Their Manuel selection is better than most Burmese restaurants. They had a few dishes I've never had before. Shout out to one of the owners... Jennifer! She was super nice and provided excellent service! We told her that it was our mom's birthday recently. She was so sweet and brought out dessert for my mom. Without us even asking. They even had the staff singing happy birthday to my mom. It was such a great experience!!! This is definitely up there... in my top five favorite places to eat! I think it earned my #2 favorite place to eat! This is definitely somewhere you will want to check out! Just keep in mind they get very busy. The outdoor seating is amazing, but it gets packed really quick. They get a lot of takeout orders. Yet as busy as they get. I would definitely say it's worth eating there. Just for the experience and the overall great service!

I've never had Burmese food before and this was an amazing first experience. We came on a Friday night at like 5ish. Parking wasn't too bad, was able to find street parking a block away. The place itself was maybe half full? We were immediately greeted and sat. We chose to sit inside and the ambiance is a bit on the darker side but the sun coming in from the open front kept it feeling bright and open. We ordered the tea leaf salad, chicken wings, samosas, kanpachi crudo, and bbq pork garlic noodles. Tea leaf salad first was delicious. Super bright and acidic but also umami from the super strong fish sauce. I loved the variety of texture as well. Chicken wings were also really good. Crunchy but also saucy. Juicy and straight off the stove. Samosas were crispy and the sweet chili sauce was the best dipping sauce choice. Kanpachi crudo was from the special menu and that was also really yummy. There were slices of peaches and avocado layered on the fish, which surprisingly went together really well. Fish was super fresh too. Bbq garlic noodles were absolutely the bomb. Noodles were perfectly squishy and chewy, the flavor was so addicting, and the bits of bbq pork were tender and flavorful. The portion size is also great. For dessert, we got the mango coconut tapioca dessert. It had actual bits of coconut and came with ube ice cream and whipped cream. That was good too, but hard to mess that up haha Service throughout the meal was really good! It definitely started getting busy throughout our meal, but that didn't slow the attentive service. Our server also graciously helped us pick the best things from the menu when we were being indecisive lol Overall, amazing experience! Coming from the east bay, this is worth the bridge toll to visit!

Came here for my friend's birthday dinner a couple months back. We had a party of about ten people, and were accommodated to sit in the center tables upon entering the restaurant. Outside, parking may or may not be tough to find depending on how busy it is (e.g. weekends vs. weekdays). I ended up parking two blocks down since it was a very busy weekend! Inside the restaurant, you're welcomed by warm lighting, the bustle of chats among diners, and a very long walk to the back of the restaurant. The place is cozy indeed. We had ordered family style, and I was able to try the following: - Samosas: Decent, it wasn't as flavorful as other places I've been to so I was wondering if it was its own variation. - Pratha and dip: Pratha was nice and flakey, dip was a bit too liquidy for my liking. - Tea leaf salad: Decent; it was refreshing but wasn't as flavorful as other Burmese places I've eaten at in the Bay Area. - Mango salad: This was probably my favorite; it was light, tangy, and nicely shredded. - BBQ pork garlic noodles: Tasty and came in a huge portion! If you order it, please note that it would ideal to share this with 1-2 other people. - Strawberry watermelon wine (Nero d'avola rosato): Light, refreshing, and personally paired really well with the Mango salad in my opinion! Staff were nice here and did their best to work with our large group. I wasn't super blown away by the food here, but if you're really craving Burmese style dishes while in the area, this would probably be the most accessible spot to hit up.

Tea leaf salad is excellent. Also enjoyed the rolled rice noodle special. Green beans had good flavor but were a bit too under-done. Wait List estimate was 20 minutes but we had to wait over an hour on a Friday evening. Had I known that, we would have gone somewhere else.

Happy we found this spot in Marin for Burmese food! No longer need to drive to SF! We ordered the tea salad, miso cod (special that day) and a braised short rib with coconut rice. Tea salad and short rib was spot on in terms of flavor and generous portion. The cod was cooked perfectly, we just didn't care for the broth or veggies it came with. Definitely will be back!

This is my second time to Burmatown and it did not disappoint. From the warm welcome from the owner to spacious seating our culinary journey began. The nice cold beers the amazing tea leaf salad, ribs and dumplings left us so full we decided to take our mains home!! This place is great for everyone, singles, families and couples and it fills up quickly!! They take a break in March for their holiday so it's never able to be by birthday meal but a well earned break for this amazing family run restaurant.

The moment I stepped into the restaurant the smell of the food was soo aromatic and I felt 10x hungrier. (It was torture) Me n my friend couldn't wait much longer. It was a Saturday night and the wait was about 1.5 hrs. There's a Yelp waitlist but it wasn't working and I think it might have been because the wait was too long so we had to sign up for the waitlist in person. We opted for takeout and honestly I have no regrets. We got : -tea leaf salad (pre-mixed) - I love that they have a premix option because it would have been so hard for me to do this in my hotel room LOL. The flavors were soo good and refreshing! -crispy angel wings- still so crispy and juicy when we got back! The flavor of the wings were perfectly balanced and they reminded me of fish sauce wings -mushroom medley garlic noodles- so umami and yummy if you love mushrooms. I wish they didn't skimp on the togarashi though.. they gave me enough for like 3 bites haha Overall I'd def try to dine in next time! But honestly the takeout really hit that day as well!

I haven't been here in ages so my bf and I came here for date night. We got the following: * Crispy Angel Wings for $15 lightly battered wings dipped in house-made chili garlic gochujang sauce with sesame and cilantro * Thai Iced Tea for $5 and Lemonade POG for $7 * Tea Leaf Salad for $16.50 Burmese fermented tea leaves, green cabbage, romaine hearts, dried shrimp, mixed Burmese beans, peanuts, seeds, fried garlic, jalapeño, tomato, lemon, fish sauce; gluten free (available vegetarian and large). * Shrimp and Beef Baos for $5.50 each white steamed bun "tacos" with asian miso slaw, sesame, and cilantro. You can choose either beef, chicken, spicy pork, beef or shrimp! * BBQ Pork Garlic Noodles for $17 with fresh noodles stir fried with BBQ pork, garlic, and scallions. * Coconut Beef Short Ribs Curry for $27 Boneless braised with potatoes. * Jasmine rice for $3. We also got my siblings to go orders: * Shrimp & Pork Dumplings for $15 in a sweet chili soy dipping sauce. * BBQ Pork Garlic Noodles for $17 with fresh noodles stir fried with BBQ pork, garlic, and scallions. * Mushroom Medley Garlic Noodles for $16 Seasonal mushrooms, green onions and togarashi (Japanese red chili flakes). I had an incident this night and the waiter and bartender were so nice to me and funny which was nice. I was super embarrassed by my incident and luckily can laugh about it now. Bummed we didn't get dessert but will next time!

This place was busy on a weekday dinner! There place had a line at 7pm at night. We went to grab carry out and when we arrived they were packing up the order to go so had to wait a little. We ordered a large variety of dishes and they were all decent. I would say more fusion food than Burmese. We ordered the tea leaf salad, pratha with curry, ribs, wings, mushroom garlic noodles, bbq pork garlic noodles, green beans, cold tofu and wontons. The ribs and wings has good flavor, tasted similarly. I felt like the ribs were a bit overcooked as they were a little dry. The pratha was good, thick and flavorful with the curry. The garlic noodles were probably one of the better dishes along with the green beans. We also got some of the Thai tea, which was quite good here.

    Burmatown Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Burmatown

    Is the menu vegan friendly?

    Yes! Throughout

With the opening of the new location, is there still a long wait if we want to eat at 6:00-6:30 PM on a Tuesday night?

Wait lines at Burmatown are inevitable but you should be able to get in between 6 pm - 6:30 pm without too much of a wait, especially on a Tuesday night.

Is it dog friendly if we eat outside?

    Yep!

Do you have a "slow night". My mom is in her 80's so we are trying to pick a night when the wait might be shortest. Hoping that in January/February we might be more in luck?

Hi Erin, typically Tuesday and Wednesday nights are a little slower. In general though if you come early when we open you’d be able to get seated either right away or fairly quickly!

How early should we get there on a weeknight to eat at 7pm (for party of 4)?

Plan for a 45 minute wait and then grab a drink at the wine bar or Benissimos around the corner.

What's a good time to get there on a Sat night if you want to eat at 6:00?

Depends on how many people, but I would try to go an hour earlier (the wait times are unpredictable)

This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

The B S in Alameda doesn't have the same energy or coziness, but it is easier to access with safer parking (now windows broken there but I've had that here and been hassled walking to/from) and dramatically shorter waits. The service here is night and day compared to Burma superstar. The service here is exponentially better, the staff is super friendly, incredibly attentive, and they make everyone feel very welcomed. The food on the other hand just is not great. Yes this place is always packed apparently, and it may be out of convenience. I found that everything that we ordered with the exception of the coconut rice fell flat. This is one of those moments that hurt your heart because I want to give them huge accolades, but it's just not there. We ordered the platha. It was tasty, but it also did not taste super fresh. The dipping sauce that it comes with (opted for chicken) and kept digging around the small bowl to find pieces of chicken that were nonexistent. The up charge of a dollar for the chicken dipping sauce that did not have chicken in it super disappointing. The sauce was tasty, but definitely not worth the up charge. Our server encouraged us to get the tea salad, which is definitely something. Someone should try if you've never had it before. The mixture of fresh veggies, the light sauce and the herbs, make for a very fresh bite. I would've been thrilled if late shredded chicken could be added to this for a different style dish. It would be super tasty. The salad was good, but not my style, but everyone else enjoyed it. We ordered the beef curry and the coconut rice. I absolutely want to emphasize how incredible the staff is. Their service and attentiveness absolutely should be acknowledged over and over again. The coconut rice at this location is exponentially better than at the other restaurant that we tried. This was a combination of light, fluffy, and absolutely flavorful delicious rice. The beef curry was incredibly disappointing. The beef was well done not done well. It was tough, overly chewy, and the flavor profile was just not good. It was missing something and even the light curry broth that the meat was sitting in well, good wasn't fantastic. The drinks seem pricier here, and the mango lassie, while good, was just OK. It tasted more like watered down mango. For dessert, we tried the black rice. This is definitely worth trying. It's a heavier dessert and probably a bit much after what felt like an uncomfortable dinner. The coconut sauce that it's sitting in is delicious and I can see why so many people enjoy it, and maybe if the strawberries were tastier the combination of all of the flavors may have made a difference. I definitely think it's something worth trying, but maybe elsewhere, or with different items for dinner.

The eggplant we got was also insanely flavorful and well-seasoned, and I would get this again in a heartbeat. The minty jalapeno chicken made me want to try to recreate this dish at home. I love anything with mint in it, and I love anything with jalapenos in it. Put them together, and it's a combo made in heaven. The spring rolls were also very good, but pretty standard, so it's not a must-try, but they're great if you're craving something deep fried and crispy. Omg, the coconut rice. I'd never really had coconut rice like this before despite growing up around Asian food, and I've had dreams about eating this again. We doordashed everything for our most recent meal and even though quality can sometimes suffer when you're having something delivered (or even when you're getting takeout), every dish was so incredible. I can't wait for our next meal from Burma Spice - in fact, I think I might doordash it again for lunch tomorrow!

It was the right amount of saltiness and it wasn't super super strong. My spouse said this is one of the better tea leaf salads that we have tried in the area. I tried a coconut curry chicken dish and thought it was fine. Flavor was good, but the dish was only chicken curry (sauce) but no vegetables or any other thing inside the dish. It did feel a little one note! Service was good! They were nice!

We got the mango curry and rice, garlic noodles, tea leaf salad and samosa soup. The main curry came first but it didn't come with the rice. It sat there and got cold for 10 mins before the rice came. The appetizers came only in the end. The hostess was short and she just seemed busy. I understand. The waitress was nice enough but was absent during most of our meal. She seemed to be waiting many tables. However she told my 7 yo she'll get ice cream after dinner 3 different times, which was sort of uncalled for. Then my kid decided she wanted it (because which kid says no to ice cream!) And we were forced to buy it. Why keep mentioning it to a kid if you can't afford to just give it. That's a really shallow form of selling things and I don't know if the waitress intended it but we were pretty pissed that she forced us to eat and pay for ice cream.
