The drinks pictured were fantastic - both made with pandan, and they were creative and delicious. The ambiance is cool too! Unfortunately, the rest of our experience fell short, so I'm giving three stars (which honestly feels a little generous) for a few reasons: 1. We were a party of six and ordered most of the menu. Collectively, we felt the food left something to be desired. The standouts were the ribeye lettuce cups and duck fried rice. All the other dishes were either bland, unbalanced, dry, or extremely salty. My husband and I found the main courses far too salty to the point where we only had a few bites. 2. My husband and I both left with splitting stomachaches, while the rest of our party felt fine. We both have a dairy allergy and clearly communicated our allergy, as we always do, so we're left wondering whether something may have accidentally contained dairy. Of course, we can't know for sure. 3. The service was also underwhelming. We mentioned that we were celebrating my husband's birthday to the host, but there was no acknowledgment from the staff or kitchen. At this price point, we expected at least a simple recognition of the occasion. We were stoked to try this new restaurant but at this point we wouldn't return unless we heard that things had improved. I'm leaving this review in the hope that it reaches the right people, since this is a newer restaurant that may still be ironing out some kinks. We'd truly love to see a restaurant like this thrive in Marin.

Stopped by for a glass of wine with my boyfriend and wow they have great options. The menu is nice and I definitely will be returning for more. Saw they had oysters but seating was limited so I didn't want to stand holding the plate. Come on a non event day because parking was limited and the wait time was lowkey crazy. But overall a nice spot to come check out on a date night.

This is a rather hard review to write since I know how hard it is to start a business and so much financial investment and stress. Please take this as a constructive feedback. I also understand the demographic you are serving is Marin but tasteless/dry/salty food is still bad no matter who you served. Long await in anticipation for opening day and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate a new upscale thought to be Vietnamese cuisine in Marin (so much buzzed) due to the name ,however we could not be more disappointed for the underwhelmed taste. Don't let the name TU TAP fool you as these are not Vietnamese food rather a Vietnamese INSPIRED, their perception and inspiration from Viet cuisine. (My caucasian uncle in law who refused to use fish sauce in his homecook Vietnamese inspiration food for the family was still better...lol) So even if it was just an inspiration as they claimed, the food lacked of brightness, balance, flavors was hard to believed that Vietnamese was an inspiration. I suppose that chef had background with Slanted door hence inspiration from Chef Charles Phan. Comparing their papaya salad though it is a far cried. The menu option was boring, we had a hard time deciding from the start with such limited options perhaps we had high hopes. Yet, overall we couldn't finished anything we ordered. The papaya salad was bland, sour and soggy. The hamachi was so salty and strange of what they did to the beautiful fish, they killed the freshness in drenched it a a extremely salty sauce. The lemongrass chicken was dried, not quite sure what the dipping sauce was, it was also lack of luster and balance and flavors. The tofu noodle was the best out of all the dishes but it was also so average. .... A strange too thick peanut sauce to pair with the jicama rolls was also not balance. Cocktails was also uninteresting I ordered the pandan with mezcal, too coconuty and creamy, also unbalanced. Everything was way overpriced and just OFF, but I get it they spent lots of money to build out. The only thing they have going is good service, lively atmosphere, yet in a very dim lit but well designed space where you would need both glasses and flash light to read your menu. With the open kitchen in the back you can see who were cooking your food. Chef was very proud of her one month old aged chili sauce that was just debut, that was probably the best thing we had. A tangy chili sauce. Well we waited, we tried but now we can not say we would recommend it or return How is it that our beautiful cuisine inspiration left such bad taste, what went wrong I wondered. 4 star for service 2 star for food and drink

Marin county needs more culinary options so when a Vietnamese spot opened there was a buzz in the air and a line at the entrance which greeted excited customers. Vietnamese food is known for the perfect balance of sour, sweet, bitter, spicy and salty. It is full of flavors that you can't get from other cuisines and unfortunately this place fell flat for me. From the first step into the restaurant you are greeted with darkness, black ceilings and the back wall, which in my opinion doesn't allow for a welcoming space. I will say, the booths on the left side are a nice relief moment with the beautiful wallpaper that allows a deep breathe to the dark environment. The cocktails are supposed to wow especially with such a renowned cocktail expert taking charge of the menu. Unfortunately the honey and hive cocktail was unbalanced and all one could taste was the intensity of the alcohol. The honey comb garnish while a nice thought doesn't work, as placing this appealing garnish into one's mouth is left with an unapotizing wax and frankly all garnishes and touches to a cocktail should enhance not leave ones palate with a waxy chewable... with a $20 price point for approximately 5oz drink should be one of the best cocktails in town. I will say that the bartender had no fault in this cocktail as the second drink I ordered, a whisky sour, was perfectly balanced and I dare say one of the best I have had. Which tells me this is a cocktail recipe issue and no fault of the mixologist. The food was disappointing, bland, overpriced food that not only left a hole in one's pocket but also in one's stomach. The vegetable spring rolls while fresh were boring and frankly have been offered in many restaurants for a significantly lower cost. The crudo, which was forgotten until we gently reminder our server of the order, was sloppy in the plating and while there is great hope in this dish the salt was overwhelming and again, the price of $22 for 5 tiny pieces of fish was completely ridiculous. For the main, we tried the chicken and the black cod. The chicken was extremely dry and the "dipping sauce" on the side was basil with olive oil which did nothing for the dish. The black cod was bland and the celery salad on the side was also unimaginative and lacked luster. Vietnamese food is full of bold flavors, taps into the taste points but sadly this meal didn't come close. While I understand this establishement is new and there is always an understanding for bumps in the road the dishes presented should not have any barring to the age of an establishment. I am sad to say, Tu Tap did not live to its excitement.

This has been by go-to spot for bringing friends visiting or for a girls night at the bar. The staff is super friendly and hospitable! Love the cocktail program and their unique and small batch selection of spirits. Veggie rolls are my fav! Also love the short ribs, and salmon clay pot. Thank you for bringing a much needed lively and fun spot to town!

Một nhà hàng Việt mới tuyệt vời với nội thất đẹp, dịch vụ chu đáo và món ăn ngon. My first visit tonight with my buddy from San Francisco. Online it looks like it was booked for the next several weeks, but we took a chance after stopping at another establishment for a light meal. We checked in with the charming, efficient, greeter/hostess named Aspen and left our name and phone number and we were summoned in about 15 minutes as we strolled down the main street checking out all the shops, etc. San Anselmo is one of my favorite Marin towns for its diversity of fine cuisine and entertainment and hip retail boutiques. TU TAP presents a lovely interior makeover from what was there previously. Dark muted tones, dimly lit. Upstairs is a cozy room, separate bar and menu with views of Mount Tam. Adorned with comfortable furnishings to include Eames stlye plywood chairs with fabric, for a more comfortable feel. As our shared meal we went with vegan small plates rather than full entrées: *** Vietnanese Spinach, Roasted Shallots au Bina Xào Hành *** Green Beans | Đậu Que Xào Nâm Shiitake mushrooms, house made sate chile *** Roasted Japanese Eggplant (VG), Ca Tím Nhật Nướng housemado sate chile, coconut, cilantro Also to start, we had some very nice fresh spring rolls: Veg Spring Rolls (VG) | Gỏi Cuốn Chay. Jicama, tree ear mushrooms, cucumber, thai basil, peanut sauce. ********************** All above complimented with two servings of the delicious broken rice which really absorbs flavors nicely. On its own it has such a nice texture and flavour. Broken rice, known as cơm tấm in Vietnam was once considered peasant food. Today, it is deeply revered and celebrated as a culinary icon because its unique fragmented texture absorbs sauces, scallion oil, and marinades far better than whole-grain rice. The service was excellent and the environment was calming and the food delightful! On my next visit, I will try a vegetarian entrée accompanied by a glass of wine or two. Thank you, MOLLY for a good all around experience. See you next time soon! *some sort of small lite on the table would greatly help to read the menu....

Gin honey cocktail

This is for upstairs lounge area only. First this place has a great vibe starting with the beautiful front door. Service was friendly and attentive. Friend and I had lovely drinks and a tasty and exciting appetizer upstairs. A little bit changed from Kientz Hall, in a positive way. The appetizer was an avocado tofu cream with sesame oil and something else interesting, with huge sesame rice paper crackers. It was fun and yummy. My friend had a beautiful and delicious honey gin cocktail and I had a nice crisp and dry wine. Would definitely come back.

The Hamachi Crudo was absolutely incredible!

We don't have any Pho Hoa in the Sacramento area, and this restaurant comes really close to a similar pho noodle bowl to the seafood bowl that I crave. They also sell Bahn Mi and a diverse number of rice plates. This is definitely a gem for the San Rafael area and was perfect for dinner after visiting Angel Island.

It was a hot day and I felt the air conditioner was not on high enough and it was warm inside. I went with 3 other people. I ordered the spring rolls which came with shrimp. The peanut sauce lacked flavor and overall the spring rolls were okay but weren't anything special. I also ordered the pork and shrimp rice plate. Others in my party ordered soups and a chicken and vegetable rice plate. When I got my order, I was a bit disappointed there were only two thin pieces of pork. It was a pretty small portion and I felt like they skimped on my portion size. The 2 soups that were ordered were large portions and the other chicken and vegetable rice plate had way more food also. The pork and shrimp had good grilled/BBQ flavor but was a bit salty for me. I did really like the pickled carrots, radish, and a cabbage pickled with red peppers. I was surprised my plate came with a soup because it didn't say on the menu. It was a clear chicken broth which was plain and simple but had really good favor. Overall, my experience was okay. The service was okay. We weren't ready to order yet the first time and they took a while to come back to take our order even though there wasn't anyone else in the restaurant. They didn't really check on us until way later to see how the food was and to refill water but they did bring us the check. We ended up going up the counter to pay for the meal. The small amount of pork was disappointing considering the portion of the other dishes. I would consider trying this place again if I pass through.
