Friend and I popped in here after a hike to get a sandwich. They had the usual suspects on the menu, you can get your flavor combinations as a sandwich with noodles or a salad or a rice bowl. I cannot believe it has taken us this long to try this place after being in the area quite often. We decided let's give it a try! My goodness the Carmel Chicken Banh Mi was extremely tasty 5/5 starts on flavoring and the daikon pickles to the pate. It tasted so clean and smooth. Absolutely love the chicken they used. I eaten banh mi my entire life and I'm such a picky eater this place has by now my #1 place go for banh mi. I am not a huge fan of dark meat chicken but this place makes it with white meat and I absolutely love that! I inhale my banh mi, I had a moment with it. It's that good! I tried the spicy Korean fried chicken bahn mi today. It was a similar experience: lots of ingredients but not a lot flavor. It also wasn't spicy. The sandwich was enjoyable enough but nothing stood out. A bahn mi should have distinct flavors that work together. These flavors don't fight but they don't excite either. read more

If you're thinking that the folks who run the nearby (2-doors down), Michelin-annointed Village Sake are going to produce a typical banh mi joint your thinking is askew. Bah Mi Ba, brought to you by those folks, produce what I like to think of as the "bespoke banh mi". It's very fresh in flavor and the menu features many meatless versions including tofu and "impossible" options. I was halfway through the Curry Tofu banh mi ($13) when I asked of the person I was sharing it with, "do they make the bread themselves?" I'm not even someone who cares much for bread but the freshness and soft texture of the bread had me mesmerized. Inside that bread, the ingredients also proved quite satisfying. The tofu was good, tasting not so much of curry, but the ingredients that it sat with did a lot of the heavy lifting with jalapeños providing the lion's share of the spiciness. With banh mi running $13-$14.50 apiece and vermicelli bowls costing $17, Bah Mi Ba clearly isn't aiming to be the best deal in town but the product they put out is high quality and tasty. Despite this being a place exclusively for take-out they're serving the sort of food I'd be happy to consume pretty much anywhere. read more

Good food. Banh mis are the most authentic I've come by so far in a while. I have noticed 2 variations in food quality, there are probably 2 main chefs, both variations are still really good, but just to note the consistency. I love love love the Fried chicken vermicelli bowl. It's so good and very authentic fish sauce dressing. Service is nice. If it's hot, it's hot inside. It's more of a take out place anyways. The menu was street-food inspired and developed by two chefs at local favorite, Village Sake, and the small take out spot is now run by another partner. The bahn mi sandwiches here are a stand out. I got the bánh mi classic, with pate, pickled vegetables, and meat. The ingredients are excellent down to the very fresh French baguette. In addition to sandwiches, they have Vermicelli bowls and a limited (just three flavors) menu of milk teas, along with bahn cam (fried sesame balls with mung beans.). They have a curried tofu bánh mi and bun, with a lot of flavor for tofu, for those with a veggie preference. Very simple menu, no seating and take away only. Growing up we used to hike from the cascades up split rock and do backflips into a swimming hole up there. The fuel for more, that was always a sandwich wrapped tightly in paper--in our backpacks. The picture on the menu online shows that the banh mi is bigger... but really it's not that big for the price I paid... Taste was good not something where I would say "I'd definitely come back!" First time here. Tried the BBQ Brisket banh mi. Meat was nice and tender, minimal fat. The BBQ sauce was different from other banh mi shops I've been to. This one is definitely more mild in flavor. I do prefer sauce that is a bit more sweet, since it pairs well with the pickled veggies in a banh mi. Seating is limited since it's a very small shop, but there are some chairs outside where you can enjoy your food. Customer service was friendly and I would love to come back to try the KFC or caramel chicken. They do use chicken thigh, so that's a good sign. :) read more

Killer Bahn Mi with a Korean twist. Their fried chicken sandwich is the bomb. Not much seating, but big on flavor!

So happy to have Bah Mi Ba here in town ! The food is delicious , the Bahn Mis are served on fresh bread and so flavorful. The salads and vermicelli bowls are also so fresh, tasty and authentic. All the teas are also great! It is pretty expensive, and I do wish they added a little more meat to all the dishes , but the food is on point and very much worth it in my opinion. I'm a regular at bah mi ba, rarely going longer than a couple weeks between visits. In checking out the reviews here, don't see a single comment on the chili shrimp bahn mi. Now, I wouldn't typically choose a shrimp bahn mi, but on one visit, I was ordering for my pescatarian buddy and ordered him the shrimp to go along with my standard beef/chik/trad (which one i forget). They ended up accidentally giving us two chili shrimp bahn mi and i'm super thankful they did. It really is a unique and amazing sandwich with large lightly fried shrimp tossed in a lovely creamy chili sauce with all the standard fixings. So yummy. Got one the followers for my pescatarian gf and now she's hooked on it as well. All the food here is great, but don't ignore the chili shrimp! read more

Sure, you can get a cheaper traditional bahn mi sandwich, but you certainly won't have a choice of Mary's organic chicken or all the other top notch ingredients. It's not easy to find a true vegan vermicelli noodle bowl, but this place has it and the tofu is also fantastic. I had the tofu vermicelli to go. It was breaded and deep fried and tasted delicious. On the menu it said curry tofu, but I didn't taste much curry. If anything, there was a chicken flavor to it. I had to slow down every bite and check to make sure it wasn't actually chicken. Made me wonder if the tofu was fried in the same oil as the chicken? Not sure. The vermicelli, greens, pickled vegetables were all fresh and tasty. I will definitely go back next time I'm in Fairfax. read more
