Lately, Marin has seen an influx of Asian-inspired restaurants, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese and more. Even lowly Novato just got a new Ramen house (Yosumi) thanks to Pearl and her family. And of course La Maison de la Riene recently moved from Corte Madera to Novato as well, which is great! San Rafael has a number of choices for Pho including the new Pho by the main post office, but I have to say that my all-time favorite after 20 years in Marin continues to be Saigon Kitchen. Their breadth of offerings, from noodle soup to rice plates and more is almost laughable - it takes forever just to go through their menu. And EVERYTHING I've tried there is always delicious. I almost always order the wonton noodle soup, and I always get the small size - I can't imagine who could finish the large! The venue is so interesting. The back garden is wonderful, with the huge Koi tank and the assortment of plants growing in and around the patio. I love sitting out there in the summertime. The indoor seating area behind the register is becoming a bit of a motorcycle shop with three large tool cribs that mostly seem to be used a filing cabinets! The staff are amazingly helpful and friendly, and are very welcoming and patient with my elderly dad. Kudos. We'll keep coming back weekly.

Very good pho. This place is so interesting with the many seating areas both inside and out. Will have to come back and try the other things on the menu. Just a note, you have to go to the register to pay. They don't bring the bill to the table. We weren't told and kept siting waiting for the check. lol.

Authentic vietnamese restaurant with a very inviting outdoor garden seating area. There's a little koi pond with too many koi that is nice to sit by. The inside is a low key casual spot that is darker. Service is typical and the food is very good. We enjoy the vermicelli, rice plates, and the beef stew. The large stew is enough to share between two people with an appetizer. The shrimp cake was very crispy.

The absolute best pho I have ever had in my life!!! I am a pho connoisseur and this place nails it! This is my PHO-avorite spot and I am a PHO-requent customer! The staff is always amazing and helpful. Love love love this place. Could not recommend it more!

I'm such a fan Saigon Village Restaurant and love to eat outside in their green garden oasis. The service is chill, sweet, and food comes out fast. The vegetarian fake chicken rice noodle soup is my automatics choice. It's salty, refreshing, and comes in a big bowl. The fresh rolls are wonderful with incredible peanut sauce. The vegetarian options are great and filling.

Very friendly staff, easy-going, and welcoming. Great prices for large portions. I enjoy the various vegetarian options. Not great ambience but solid food at a great price and nice portions. Everything's available to go or for pick up as well. A well run smooth operation, and you get your food in a hurry. Always hot and delicious. A perfect spot to get some grub before or after Trader Joe's shopping! This is the real deal, take it from my wife as she too is the real deal. For take out I only order two things - A9 Fried Chicken Wings; crispy and done very well but they used to give you six and now only four for the same price. And fresh spring rolls. Neither have I ever been disappointed by. When I sit down I only order one thing - #1 House Special Combination Pho. Unfortunately prices have gone up considerably but that is the case with every restaurant in Marin and the Bay Area as a whole. Pho is perfect for when it is cold, you feel run down or are hung over. When it comes to Pho, broth is most important followed by how generous and fresh the meat portions and then the noodles. VN Noodle has satisfying broth and I have yet to be disappointed by the portions and freshness. Pho Viet is a very close second. Four stars because this is good Pho, not great Pho (no where in Marin has great Pho, or great Asian food in general. Sorely lacking for such an affluent area. Marin needs a Ranch 99 or HMart as well). $20 for a decent bowl of pho is quite a lot. The ambiance is so so and the service can vary depending on the visit. Still this is probably your best bet for Vietnamese food in Marin County. Parking is good and you don't have to wait long for your food.

San Rafael 4th street has a lot to offer - and it's worth checking these spots out. The storefront is inviting and the inside of the restaurant is clean and well organized and appointed. The wine and beer list has few choices - and I would encourage a little more local variety to make it inviting to a wine lover like myself. I was efficiently approached by wait staff and felt welcomed I ordered Pad Woon Sen, which I've never before tried. The food came quickly - a beautiful dish of thin noodles and mushrooms with onions and celery adorned with steak. I finished my plate. Perfect lunch portion. Attentive service. The taste of quality ingredients and pride in their efforts. I will add this to my go-to spots in San Rafael!

The flavors were authentic and flavorful without being overly Americanized. The pork curry was absolutely delicious and is definitely a must-order. I also got the tea leaf salad and immediately wished I had ordered the large because you can never have enough tea leaf salad. The palata was a great starter -- flaky, warm, and exactly what you'd want. The miso black cod was another standout. The broth it was simmered in was incredibly flavorful, and the fish was perfectly cooked. The garlic noodles were also done really well with the right noodles and great flavor -- honestly better than some places known specifically for garlic noodles. And of course, the coconut rice is always worth ordering. We skipped dessert since nothing really stood out, but I would love to see them add more traditional Burmese desserts like faluda in the future. Parking wasn't too difficult, especially if you circle around the back neighborhood area. The wait was reasonable, the outdoor patio seating was nice, and the service was attentive throughout the meal. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when craving Burmese food.

I've had the tea leaf salad and BBQ pork garlic noodles. I sadly can no longer eat red meat but the BBQ pork was delicious and the garlic noodles were not overly greasy. I forgot to also include that the tea leaf salad here is one of the best I've had! My coworker that I brought there last year had never had Burmese food and I had her try the Tea Leaf Salad (my personal favourite) and she loved it and insisted that was the best salad she's ever had. We're from the South so our palette is different, lol. This place also has a lot of fusion dishes and is very friendly to vegans and vegetarians. This is very important for me due to dietary restrictions. The restaurant was very clean, the decoration was cute and the owner's daughter was incredibly kind. She told us that her mother's recipes were used for the restaurant. I'll be bringing my partner and other friends here when we have time. The only issue is the parking. Parking is insanely frustrating in this area but this place is worth it. Just carpool together and go! The owner's daughter also has a really good memory since we couldn't come back for several months and she still remembered us and our request for ube cheesecake, lol. Edit: Oops, I meant original owner's daughter. I'm not sure if she's the owner now or her mom. Either way, the food is great and service is always kind. It feels especially kind when owners of the business are passionate about their food and encourage their customers! I found the pictures and uploaded them (oops, it was from 2024 not last year too).
