I've had most likely dozens of keys made by the shop over the past 10 years of living in Seattle. Recommended to countless people in the Southend. But today was the day that I needed to be let in after losing my key. Years ago I called a locksmith that ended up being a scammer. Sure wish I could take back even half of the money they scammed because I could have done this mishap twice over (not that I ever would do this or want to do this but you get the point) I can happily say that in 30 minutes maybe even less I had a new key and was inside! I waited for months to give this business a review because I kept giving them second chances and I believe in supporting local business. It took months to receive an estimate after Tim came out to assess the project. I called and emailed with no response until Tim picked up the phone directly. I shared my frustrations and he gave me no apology but told me he would send the invoice to me shortly. A few more weeks passed. My last straw was when he told me to pay $1000 upfront, with no itemized invoice. I'm glad I asked for more details, because I found out that he was charging a 50% margin on top of the hardware, plus the cost of labor. When I pointed out that I could buy the hardware for much cheaper online, he said they buy directly from the manufacturer who sets their retail price. The latter is just not true - Burdicks is the one who set their retail price. I find it dishonorable that this business would charge customers prices that are not competitive or fair market value. I really wish I had a wonderful experience with this local business, but I feel it's important for me to warn other customers against lack of reliability and quite frankly integrity and respect for the customer. read more

His cost for delivery and installation was half their cost. With one phone call we set everything up and he confirmed delivery that am. Went smoothly. I found them after the lake city way lock and safe company took a week to even call me back and then quoted a charge that was 25% MORE than the cost of the 600$ safe. We got the keys to our new house last night, and this morning Burdick's came and installed a complete alarm system and changed all the locks for us. The alarm is awesome--it I can arm and disarm the system remotely from my phone or computer and get email alerts when the aalrm goes off. There's been kick-ins in my neighborhood and I decided to upgrade from my terrible locks and door knob (which whoever installed it the first time used 1/2" screws on) to a high security Medeco lock. I called some other places, but Burdick's was the only one that was able to set in a Medeco lock and deadbolt. I feel a great peace of mind now, and the lock is awesome (so much so that I was warned NOT to get locked out b/c they would have to get the special number to get the special key, and match it to my signature). I was first impressed by the web presence of this business - I just asked a few questions, and received a quote over email within 24 hours from the owner, After a few emails back and forth to the shop, I decided to go with the Medeco locks, and went by the shop to pick out the equipment I wanted. They were great - and very helpful. I scheduled a time right away, and then the technician (Mike) came out and put on my locks within a few days - they even offered to have someone out on Christmas Eve day. My house came with a secure lock, numbered keys. I finally got around to making a few more in June 2018. I also updated the account with my name, property manager name, etc, since I was moving out of town. I bought 5 expensive new keys. Yayy. Well, one of the new keys doesn't work. Whatever, it happens. The property manager takes it back to Burdick's, and a "good" key to compare. They don't have my updated file information. Can't find my account. But after 15 minutes with me on the phone they find it, it just wasn't "entered into the computer yet." After 8 weeks. They are passing the property manager's phone around the office, between them, while they talk to me. Since we don't know which is the "good" key, the manager must make two, and charges me for one. Otherwise, he says, you'll just have to go home and mark the bad one. That's all I can do, he says. Never mind it's their fault to start. Never mind how long that will take. Never mind how long I waited for them to sort out their business, making my property manger cool her heels. I'M not going to be out the $13.50, he says. YOU'RE BEING very rude, he says. Tim is my hero! He saved my sanity (and the neighborhood's) by immediately taking my phone call for help. He patiently talked me (a complete klutz) through how to deal with an old Honeywell alarm system in a house I recently bought - an alarm system with no manual and zero instructions from the former owners. That alarm system was activated to an ear splitting level in the middle of the night due to my punching the wrong button in an attempt to turn off the beeping battery. Until you have had your ear next to an activated alarm, you have no idea how awful it can sound! Not a real review- because they never followed up. So just note that I called about 1.5 weeks ago for an in-home security consult AND change of all my locks, on a new home. I was actually trying to get another consultation because the first company I called, who came out and did an evaluation, ended up being pretty expensive and actually misleading. Anyway- I talked with a real person in the morning, gave details, and my phone number and was told I'd be called back. I never got a call back. A while ago my wife and I moved into a home that had a security system already installed. The problem was it was not activated and not connected to monitoring. We figured out how to activate it, but couldn't get the monitoring working. We did a search for local companies that work with that system. Over the course of a week I called the first company (not Burdick and I won't mention them here) on the list twice and sent them a message once asking for someone to contact me. No response. I guess they did not want our business. My wife suggested giving Burdick a call as they are only a few miles away and had a lot of good reviews. I called on a Monday, had a consultant in my home on Tuesday, and had a working system in my home on Wednesday. Seriously. 48 hours from first contact to working system. These guys wanted my business and every person I talked to seemed genuinely concerned about making us happy customers. STAY AWAY! Burdicks charged my family for residential security monitoring that we never received. We pre-paid for annual monitoring 2/1/2021-1/31/2022 but 55% of the way through this period Burdicks turned it off and never restored it. We had previously agreed to a temporary outage (while our contractor investigated an incessant alarm beeping / electrical issue) but then Tim Burdick communicated that he decided he would not restore our service. After filing a complaint with the City of Seattle, Burdicks did send a refund for the undelivered service. In multiple communications with owner Tim Burdick over a 42 month period, we found him to behave like a rude sexist bully whenever we called him to request field support (e.g., often shouting, interrupting female family members, and "mansplaining" in a condescending way). While field service techs were usually prompt and professional, the hassle of dealing w/ Tim Burdick was not worth it. read more

So yesterday was Monday. And, as we all know, Mondays suck. Not to be outdone by any previous Monday, yesterday was especially tricky. The tricks began when I returned home from my morning dog walk, and my key wouldn't work. Did I have the wrong key in my hand? No. Not to worry, I'll just go around back and get in that way. What? My key doesn't work in the back door?!? Suddenly, I remembered that the landlord said that he would get us new keys because of this same problem, but it hadn't entered my mind since we moved in because I had no need to go in and out of the back door. After a half-dozen tries on each door, cycling through my 3 house keys to prove to myself that I wasn't nuts, I realized that the lock was broken, and we were stuck outside. I called the landlord, but there was no answer. I drove downtown in craptastic Rainier Ave construction traffic to pick up my partner's keys, but returned to the same result. No keys worked in either door. At this point, I was feeling the pressure of my morning coffee, so I loaded up the dogs once more in the car and headed to my BFF Laura's house to use the facilities. Whew. Upon arriving home and trying both doors a few more times (nearly 3 hours after the initial key fail), I called Burdicks. The gentleman on the phone was really nice, suggesting some things that might work on the lock. After I let him know that I had been trying for 2 hours (minus the driving time to get downtown and back), he said he'd get someone out ASAP, and I could tell that he genuinely cared about my frustration and woes related to the lock fail. A little less than a half hour later, a nice Burdick's van pulled up in my driveway and an angel got out. Now, he probably has some magic key voodoo since he's been working with locks for a living, but he literally put the key into the lock and it opened for him like there never was a problem. (Isn't that always the way!?) I personally think it was Monday's way of saying, "Ha!" (At this point I started crying uncontrollably due to the frustration of the previous 3 hours being so maddening, and nice gentleman - who I think is named Glenn - suggested that I sit down and have a drink.) I recently moved into a new house in the Rainier Beach area and needed the locks re-keyed, and a new deadbolt installed. I called several locksmiths in the South Seattle area and each one treated me like I was a nuisance for contacting them, and I actually felt a sense of fear as they scrutiinized my request. I abandoned those idiots and went to Yelp to search for locksmiths, which I probably should have done in the first place. Burdick Security was rated highly so I sent them an e-mail on a Saturday, and even though they were closed on Saturday Tim Burdick still sent a response. After several exchanges to determine my requirements I made an appointment for the following Monday. At the appointed time Glenn showed up at my house and quickly assessed my situation, and he recommended not installing additional locks, but simply replacing the existing locks with more sturdy models. Glenn also changed some of the lock plates that had gotten bent over the years, and made sure that all of my locks and door hardware were in working order. Glenn was incredibly proficient with his skills, and was a genuinely nice guy. When he told me the charges I was actually surprised at how reasonable they were considering the reputation that locksmiths have for charging customers too much for too little. I highly recommend Burdick Security for anyone in Seattle, and if I ever need locksmith service or advice on home security I'm certainly using Burdick again. read more

This was one of the easiest businesses I have worked with in a while. I needed to have a dead bolt added to a door, and the key for it matched to the existing locks on the apartment. They were able to come and do the estimate the day after I called, and were available to do the actual work the next day I had off of work. Chris was right on time for both appointments, and was very friendly and professional. The work was completed quickly and well, and he even fixed another lock for me that wasn't functioning properly and didn't charge for it. The price was also very reasonable. I wrote a review for these people earlier but I have new information. We had another company come test and review the alarm system installed by Burdick. Here is what we found out: 1. Heat sensor in kitchen is not programmed into the system and is non-functional. 2. Smoke alarm in the basement was not replaced with new but the installer did cut all the wires of the old one so it is non functional. 3. The two car garage doors had hardwired sensors from our old system but the wires were cut and no wireless sensors were installed. Owner insists that they were not part of the old system and not part of replacement contract. 4. We were getting email notifications from a glass break sensor even when we were home and the system was not armed. 5. Our keypads were never programmed so the sensors were not named there. We had to go online to see what was happening with open sensors. 6. We had them disconnect the improperly programmed glass break sensor but some time later, I visited Alarm.com and saw that there was no history on our account. No log of all the door openings and closings. In the list of sensors, they were all grayed out and labeled as "inactive". The new alarm guy (Froula) was appalled. We are not even safe from fire until the system is fixed. I suggested the owner come and review his installer's work before we have it fixed. He refused but has emailed back and argued about every flaw in the system his company installed. Just don't use them. You cannot assume their system will keep you safe. read more

I rent a very old house. The locks are ancient and confusing. One stopped working out of the blue so we called Burdick's to come check it out. I also had to ask about our bathroom door and changing the lock because I've been terrified my toddler would lock himself in there. Tim Burdick showed up right on time and quickly showed me that my "broken" lock was just user error. We didn't even realize that it cold be turned on and off with the push of a button and the reason it seemed broken was only because we didn't understand the lock. It was simple and in hindsight, obvious. I felt like an idiot for not figuring this out sooner but Tim didn't make me feel bad about it. I then asked about the bathroom door and he quickly showed me that the lock was basically a vanity lock and could easily be opened from the outside if need be. Why we hadn't tried that before, I don't know...but he was so kind and gracious and didn't even charge me for the visit, even though it was completely unnecessary. Tim made a perfect copy of a key for a 2011 Kia Soul. I should have gone to him before researching replacement keys on the internet, where folks reported that the key blank was hard to find. I also figured this job would be too trivial for a fancy security shop like Burdick's. Not so! Tim had the right blank, expertly cut the key in a matter of seconds, and took it out to the car to make sure it worked. Super friendly and efficient service! read more

Burdich's attempted to duplicate a key for my vintage Porsche using a Porsche OEM key blank I found online for $25. The key Burdich cut didn't work, so I took it to another locksmith who said it couldn't be fixed. They said whoever cut the key in the first place really botched it, and should have known it wouldn't work. I took the key back to Burdick's today and they said they wouldn't replace it (no guaranty on keys not duplicated using their key blanks). So if you need keys duplicated which require any measure of precision I definitely would avoid Burdich's. On a side note, I was ready to purchase a residential safe from Burdich's for about $1,000 but decided to go elsewhere after this key incident. I'm not comfortable doing business with a company who won't stand behind their work. read more

I hate giving this business only three stars. I like local companies, and these guys have been very friendly, professional, and helpful. But twice now I have had specific-time appointments with them, and they have failed to show up on time or call. I have a job. I can't sit around all damned day waiting for someone to show up. The first time, we REALLY NEEDED to have our locks changed and my husband finally had to come home from work to meet with them because I had to go meet a client - I had already canceled one client to be there to meet with them when they didn't show. It's now 2:25, they were meant to be here at 2 to do a final lock replacement that they didn't have the materials to do the first time, they said it will take an hour and a half, I told them I HAVE to be out of here by 3:30 to go to work, and they're nowhere to be seen (or heard from). VERY frustrating. Wouldn't use them again purely because of this, and based on their other positive reviews, that makes me a little sad. read more

We suddenly needed all our locks re-keyed at our house. I called a company downtown and they told me that they do not assign appointment times but would call me when someone was available. Since I do not sit around my house all day I searched yelp for good reviews in my area. Greg from burdick came out 2 days later and even called me when he was 10 minutes away. He was extremely personable & proffessional. In 30 minutes he was done. He even re-adjusted a door that was hard to close before because of the deadbolt without me asking. The price was extremely reasonable. If I ever needed them again I would certainly use them. Greg did such a good job I doubt I'll need their services again. read more
