Our condominium HOA had new wifi keypads and matching ADA lever handles installed on all the units in the building, including ours. They left the new keys under the old hardware in a box on our kitchen counter. Not realizing that's where the keys were, we threw out the box with the old hardware, and the keys went with it. The HOA which bought the new hardware and hired the installer was no help. The building management company which orchestrated the installation was no help. The locksmith that installed all of the units' new hardware was worse than no help, wanting such a high fee to rekey the locks that we considered buying an entirely new keypad and handle and attempting to replace it all ourselves. The problem with that plan was that we had recently sold the unit and the new owner was taking possession in 10 days. We needed a professional to get this done. Sadly, the locksmith we used when we bought the condo back in 2012 had moved to the other side of Puget Sound. After considering our options, we contacted Element Locksmith online and within two minutes received a call back. We explained the problem and were told that a technician would call us to set up an appointment. Within five minutes Emanuel called us. He quoted an extremely reasonable charge for a visit and if he couldn't rekey the locks that's all we'd pay. We were able to set up a time to meet at the condo. Emanuel was there as promised and he was able to rekey both locks at a price far below the quote of the installing locksmith. Emanuel was professional and prompt and very kind. I called Element last night because I left my key in my house. A service member came and was able to unlock my door but he used a break in tool (bump key) which then broke my lock. I came home today with my key and was unable to get in. I called Element again and they refused to come out without me paying for it again ($144). When I refused to pay again for a lock they broke, they aggressively insisted that the lock was already broken (I've been using the same key for three years so no) and kept insisting that it was my fault and that I would have to pay again. Things got heated as he was raising his voice and continued to condescend toward me and blame me for their own mistake. I called him an asshole (rightfully so) and he hung up. Worst company I have ever worked with. I am not willing to pay $144 more for Element to fix a lock that they broke and to deal with the worst customer service ever. Also, their service member was late, (again) broke my lock, and convinced me to pay in cash so I wouldn't have to pay tax, which is completely sketchy and now I don't have proof that I paid for their horrible service. Similar experience to other reviewers: I was locked out of my apartment and was Quoted a $25 price over the phone, with a caveat that the price "could be more depending on the lock". Well, my price ended up being $192.60-that's a huge increase and it seemed their business model is to exploit a customer's desperate need for help. Best part-They cover their ass by offering a 15% discount for leaving a 5 star google review. The technician needs to watch you write it to be eligible. Their way of doing business is NOT PROFESSIONAL. I called to get a quote and they took my phone and my address. They said they will call/contact me later. But what they did was, they sent their contractor over without telling me and without quote. I actually scheduled my appointment with another company since they didn't get back to me for more than an hour, and their contractor showed up without knowing I didn't ask them to send one and was asking just for quote over the phone. Let A be their contractor and B be the contractor from another company. I scheduled with B for 1130am with quote 150. At 11am I get a call: A(I thought was B): Hi this is your locksmith! I will be there in 10-15 min. Me: Oh you are early! I will be right back! (Didn't know this company actually send someone directly. No mentioning of company name on both sides.) At 1120am The conversation goes as : Me: Hi are you Xxx? A: Hey I am your locksmith. (Probably didn't hear the name clearly. Since he has a different name.) Me: Hi you are early! I have called 3 more companies and all of them gave me quote over the phone and I said I will call back later if I wanted to make appointment.) Any way, I gave back half of what he discounted as tips for his good work. And I rate this review 2 stars instead of 1 just to show their contractor was nice and was doing his locks right. Nothing to do with the whole mess otherwise. Indeed I blame myself for not looking at the paper work before signing and let the contractor from this company started working. I should check with person A's company over the phone and should not assume he was the one I had schedule with. But even if I did and told him not to do work, I felt things are still wrong and it would be a waste of his time. This company should let A know that I was asking just for a quote rather than sending him over assuming I didn't check with another other companies. It's probably a bad experience for me and the two locksmith. Person A said he assumed I have scheduled an appointment and got a quote earlier on so he answered as if he knew what I had said over the phone with another company. Apart from really seeing the company name carefully on paper, there was no way I could know he was not B from all our conversation. In summary, lessons learned here is: WARNING TO EVERYONE WHO IS TRYING TO GET A QUOTE FROM THE COMPANY. DO NOT GIVE YOUR HOME ADDRESS since they won't give you any quote at that time and will just send their man over assuming this is an actual scheduling/appointment. Yes the contractor is professional in doing his work, but it's just UNACCEPTABLE to send your man over to when all your customer want was a QUOTE not a confirmed appointment. I would say it's conventional to call up a few locksmiths companies to try to get the best quote. If all companies work the same way as you, someone trying to get a quote from 4 companies for comparison would end up seeing 4 locksmiths in his or her house. COMPLETE SCAM. Plain and simple, did not get into the lock, the next locksmith from a different company came and opened it in TEN minutes. The man who came from Element took 1 hour and 15 minutes to break the integrity of my front door, created wood breaks in my door, frame, messed up my sealant between the door and the frame. He was completely unable to open the door, charged me money for his time, and left with less than what I got. I was quoted $200 to fix his disaster. At first I was irritated because they told me 30 min max wait on the phone, and it ended up being 50. I was locked out of the house with no shoes or bra and it was cold out. You get the idea. That being said, the guy they sent was so helpful and kind it more than makes up for it. I didn't realize how expensive it was going to be (I'm a poor college student) and when he quoted me I almost started crying because I didn't even have that much in my account. With my phone at 5% and my roommates more than 6 hours away, he let me use his phone to call other locksmiths to talk about cheaper prices. He was able get into the car make 2 programmed keys and 1 non-programmed key all for less then i was quoted by the ford dealership and I didn't have to tow it to the dealer. These guys are not great. They apparently also do business as Seattle Key Locksmith and I had a terrible experience. They sent Eric to my place, who was a nice guy but apparently didn't know what he was doing. He couldn't open the lock by picking it so he tried to use airbags to push the door open. These seem to have caused a big crack in my door but they didn't open it. He says, of course, that the cracks must have been there already. Then he drilled the lock and replaced it with another lock but installed it wrong. Sometimes when i lock it, it doesn't lock! I can just open it again by turning the handle! And for this service, i was charged $335. On top of that, I locked myself out again (i know, I'm not bright) and the other locksmith i called opened it in five minutes. He also pointed out that the improper installation could cause the lock to get stuck and lock me out so he offered to fix it. His total price including the replacing the lock and opening my existing lock? $125 Maple Leaf is a much much better locksmith as, I imagine, are many others. Go with Maple Leaf. read more
