Okay, Locking yourself out of your house basically sucks. Especially when you know your friend just left the spare key on the kitchen counter the day before.. After a wooooosaaaah moment and a little prayer, I decided to call a locksmith. The first company I called, which was not on yelp and shall remain nameless as it will bring shame and misfortune on all those who speak it. This company sent a guy with magnets on the sides of his Blue '02 Corolla. I'm thinking, mmmm, that's not that fly. Fast forwarding. The guy takes a look at my door and gives an Oscar winning performance describing how tough my door was to open and that the lock was really good. The only way to open my door was to drill the lock all for the fantastic price of $299. Carola then gives me the famous last words, "C'mon man, I know what I'm talking about I do this for a living. I'll Tell you what I will do this for you for $200." That's strait out the shysters manual. Wait for it, wait for it.... Haha, sh*******t to whom do you think you're speaking with sir? C'mon man, 300 for lockout and I will have to pay for a new lock and possibly a new door.. Go ahead and get this little $15 dispatch fee and dispatch your behind off my patio. 300 dollars You must have lost your mind. Now that's what I'm talking about. Sorry that was my inside voice... Since cooler heads prevail I sent this guy packing with his $15 bucks and tried the Yelp machine. Yelp machine calls out Element Locksmith, they were only a few blocks from the crib and had the yelp deal going. I bought the deal, called them up and I was put in contact with my man Yoni. I see Yoni is chilling in his jet black boxtop utility van. He's doesn't know it, but he's already winning. Everybody should know Shiny black boxtop utility van crushes 98 Corlla with car magnets all day. I approach the truck we make our intros and he follows up with "let see your ID".. Something Carola boy failed to ask for but he was ready to take down my Carolla boy your so silly, tricks are magicians and street walkers.. Well since my address doesn't match my address he follows up with, "it would be pretty stupid to call a locksmith to break into a house." We had a laugh and proceeded to inspect my situation. We worked out the commercials and he is like "I'm going to try to everything I can without doing any damage to your lock or door." Word? Yoni then he proceeds to unveil his BOSS LEVEL 10 locksmithery game. He spends about 10-15 minutes working the lock with two different techniques. Although impressive they failed to unlatch the door. He turns and looks at me as says " I guess I gota go old school." I'm thinking is he going to kick the door down? Whip out a battering ram. Nope nothing like that at all occurred 30 seconds later the door was open. Where Carola boy tried to give me tricks, Yoni-one-kanobi went Jedi on the lock and it was strait up PFM. This company sends out technicians that don't understand what they're doing don't know what they're doing and obviously has not gone to school long enough to figure out what they're doing they may know something about some cars but don't know a lot about most. Will try to do anything to get your money but once they've done that the follow-up service is horrible I repeat horrible. read more

Now, you don't always get the best service when you go for a reasonable price, but Element provided top quality work at not premium prices, which is hard to beat in my book. I called Element yesterday to take care of some locks in our condominium complex after another company had failed to show up twice. The scheduler was very professional and prompt. She contacted Eric, one of their technicians and called me right back with a rough estimate and a time of arrival estimate. Eric then contacted me and updated his status. Even though we had a couple of difficult lock issues, Eric took care of them. My only, very minor concern, is that there seemed to be some reluctance on Eric's part to spend the time needed to repair the locks. In the end however, the job was done and done very well. Double overpriced than other locksmiths... Shop around before you support this arrogant guy. He will give you misleading information in hopes of hiring him. Not a very good business tactic. Every other reputable locks smith I called quoted at least 50% Less than this guy. I ended up going with the Lock Doctor. I lost the keys of my Volkswagen Beetle 2000 on a Thursday evening and didn't have a spare one. I wanted to resolve this immediately and contacted several parties in the Seattle area by phone. Although lots of them wrote on their websites they support Volkswagen keys, none of them actually did, besides Element Locksmith. Thirty minutes after contacting Element Locksmith two guys arrived in a black van at the parking lot in Downtown Seattle where my car was parked and started working. The whole process took about 2.5 hours and was way more complex than I could imagine. The first hour went into creating the key, while the other hour went into programming the car to accept the key. They clearly knew what they were doing and informed me about each step through the whole process. Although there are better ways to spend a Thursday evening, it was intriguing to see how they gained access to the car and created keys out of nothing (there was no spare key). Even-though the process took longer than expected (each car is a unique case) I did not pay anything extra. No hidden fees, no extra charges. I paid exactly what was communicated during the initial phone call. Because they communicated a fixed price, the time they spend did not change anything to the fixed price. My mom somehow lost her car key AFTER she drove the car to the store, so she was stranded in the store parking lot. We could not find they key anywhere, so we had to call a locksmith. We looked on Yelp and found Element Locksmith. Yoni took our call late Saturday afternoon and said he could be at our location within 20 minutes. As promised, he showed up quickly. Back in July, I contacted Element to change the door locks on a new house that I bought. Someone called promptly, but from a number that was different from their website. A man came the next morning to change the lock, and arrived slightly early. He took awhile to work on the front door lock. And he encountered an issue that required him to come back a couple days later to do more work. The cost was reasonable. And I did not have to pay again for the return work. Looked out of the house. Called them. They sent a locksmith who is in training I guess. It took him 2 hours trying and still couldn't open my door. He then called his "master" and and I waited for another 30'. It took the guy 15 minutes to open. My door was left damaged and it cannot be opened and closed normally now. Very frustrated! read more

Parts used by Element were not manufactured well. Broke within a week of use. Element states that it has a warranty when it actually doesn't. What they say is different from what they actually do. Avoid unless you intend replacing your locks sooner than later. read more

Very impressed by this company. I was in Seattle for business and I locked my keys in my rental car on my way back to the airport. I called them up and they came to me really quickly. The guy that showed up was very nice and was concerned that I was in a hurry to catch my flight. He worked quickly but efficiently. He was definitely a master of his craft. Called around 8:30pm on a Sunday night and they arrived before 9. Unlocked my door and cleaned out the lock mechanism in 15 minutes then he was on his way. He will charge you $30-40 just to show up but the price was $50-100 cheaper than competitors. Don't bother calling anyone else. read more

Summary: had a 5 star experience with my locksmith but maybe 3 stars with the rest of the process. The guy came really fast (Nick) and he was really nice and went above and beyond to try everything he could before he finally had to drill into the lock (the house and locks are very new so are tricky to pick - a really great thing in 99.9% of cases). The whole process took about an hour and he only charged me the original price he quoted even with how much time it took and the fact that he ended up having to drill in and even broke a drill bit on the lock. I really appreciated the time and effort he took and he seemed to really care about me getting into my house, and made a stressful situation actually fairly pleasant. Now for the less than 5 star: It seemed pretty expensive to me. I've never been locked out before but it cost $200. To be fair, it was at 8pm on Memorial Day, so this may have been the reason for such a high cost (I am waiting for a receipt to see if there's anything about a surcharge - will update if I find out). When I first called and asked how much it would be, the guy on the phone said he couldn't tell me a price until someone came out and assessed. I find that kind of annoying, I would hope to at least get some kind of range or estimate to work with, but since it was late and getting dark and many other locksmiths were closed I just agreed to have him send someone out. I called and asked afterwards (not Nick but the same one who said I couldn't get an estimate) to get a receipt sent to me detailing what was done, but I haven't received the email yet. When I said I wanted a more detailed receipt than the one I got which literally just has the amount I paid, the guy says "that's weird" -- what's so weird about wanting a receipt of services performed?? read more
