My 87 year old mother had some locks rekeyed by Bergman's (8 months ago) after a tenant moved out. We renovated that area but never got a new tenant so had no reason to open the door with the key from the outside. Recently, while sorting through her keys, I found the NEW ones didn't open the lock! Stunned, I called Bergman's. I knew my mother had had this done but knowing Bergman's past work, didn't even think of checking it. When I told them the situation, they said NOTHING about a service call or charge and I assumed they would rectify THEIR mistake. The service guy had to take the lock apart and clean it (he was there about 5 minutes) and when I showed surprise that he was charging me $128, he said, "Well, we don't work for free." I called the office after he left and the man I talked to was rude, arguing that WE must have done something to the lock and that they were not responsible. "It's been 8 months! You really think a warranty lasts 8 months?" He was incredulous and demeaning. Needless to say, we won't be using Bergman's again even though they were an old Hill staple and we never went anywhere else. We've been using them since they were on the 15th. It seems like false economy to alienate long term, loyal customers who have roots in the community. And certainly every service person we've encountered from Astound to electricians have been kind to my 87 year old mother sometimes not even charging her for services. We won't be recommending them either. read more

I stopped to quickly get a copy of a key made that did not say "Do not duplicate" so I could get it to my house sitter before I was going out of town the next day. The guy in the front put a mask on as I walked in, was polite, looked at it and said I had to get permission from the building manager. I was stressed that it couldn't be done (I've never run into this before without it saying DND) and politely asked if there was anything they could do. The guy in the back then repeatedly what the guy said and then snidely added "good luck getting a hold of anyone now" as it was just after 5. His rudeness was so unnecessary. If they weren't the only ones who could make the key, I would not go back. read more

Oh my. Got an estimate drawn up on Bergman's letterhead by our broker to rekey a new home that she sold to us. She recommended Bergman because she's worked with them for years. The estimate was written seven days ago and stated it would be honored for 30 days. I just called to schedule the rekeying and inquire about smart locks. The woman who answered on the phone treated me like I was a martian. "I have no idea what you're asking?" "I don't know what estimate you're talking about." I offered to email a photo of the estimate and she was utterly uninterested. Combative, rude customer service. Something you'd expect from the DMV in a sit-com. Brutal. read more

Speedy, affordable, great customer service. You can have keys duplicated in a fraction of the time it would take at a kiosk. Less expensive than a kiosk and the keys work every time. I also recently stopped in to get a skeleton key replacement for an antique display case. They sent me home with a beautiful skeleton key and the whole process took about 5 minutes. read more

I have always had good luck at Bergman's, with the employees being polite and efficient. Last week I went in to have some keys that they'd recently made but that didn't work replaced. The green-haired woman who waited on me said that the problem was not with the keys but with the lock, which was probably altered with age. I pointed out that the lock had been installed by them less than a month ago. Throughout this interaction she was incredibly rude. In fact, I have never been treated so poorly by any sales clerk in my life! read more

I had the original keys for my Scion ST but they were falling apart and I knew I'd better get replacements sooner than later. I went to the Toyota/Scion dealer who wanted $300 for EACH key (and I wanted to replace both, $600!) even though I had the original keys with transponder chip. Finding a online DIY tutorial, I ordered 2 keys ($4.95 each) from DX Deal Extreme in china... http://dx.com/p/toyota-camry-4-button-remote-casing-16374 (took about two weeks for the uncut keys to arrive) I transferred the immobilizer chip and the remote module from my old keys to the new ones, then had Bergman's cut the keys for me. Cutting the key took just a few minutes. They cut the first one and let me go out and test it before cutting the second. They were really personable and did a great job. I haven't tested my second key but the 1st one cut works perfectly! read more

I can't say enough good things about these gentlemen and ladies. All of them are so great at what they do. But in a particular case it was Lonnie and Craig who helped out. One morning a salon in a building I manage was broken into.After calling the police the the owner made a call to a 'local locksmith' Anderson Lock aka 24/7 Locksmith. Whom we later discovered was running the bait and switch scam: Quoting one price and then charging another. The price he was quoting was over 3 times the cost of the cost for the same repair ($870 vs $250) from Bergmans, our LOCAL locksmith. The guy from Anderson reluctantly removed his replacement parts, the threat of calling the Police to expose a scam goes along way. Bergman's came and saved the day with a quick and reasonably priced repair. There is value in doing business with someone you've know for over a decade who's always done right. read more

I've been doing business with Bergman's for years, they're the best in town. You know, making a copy of a key isn't rocket science. The machine does the work. If you're getting a "bad copy" it's probably because you're trying to copy a copy. Imagine it like XEROXing; each time you copy the quality degrades until finally you can't read it. Only with locks, the fine print is 1/1000th of an inch. Bad copies are unavoidable, but Bergman's does the best anyone can. Dylan's review reflects this reality. read more

I locked myself out of my house and called Bergman's. Not only was the gentleman that came out on site Andrew very polite and professional he went above and beyond to try to help me get into my home. Unfortunately my landlord has a super high security door so it was not able to be picked. I was offered an alternate solution but it would have cause a need for a replacement of the customer lock. I opted to wait till my landlord could come out on site. Although I was not able to get in at the time, Andrew was very courteous and let me use his cell phone to make several calls for an alternate place to wait. Amazingly helpful, friendly people that ended up saving the day for me. I'd lost my car keys and first went to Broadway locksmith up the street (as I heard they were the best) to get a new key made from the manufacturer key code for my car. I wasn't impressed with Broadway's customer service (the only full sentences I really got out of the guy were the reasons the key was probably not going to work and couldn't be guaranteed). Lo and behold, the key did not work. I thought I'd give one more locksmith a go before getting all of the lock cylinders in my car replaced. I came into Bergman's, and told the guy there my situation. He was friendly, listened to my whole story, and I could tell was really trying to help me figure it out. When he saw the key was labeled "Broadway," he said the following about their competitor: "These guys do great keys. I'd be surprised if they didn't get it right." But, he agreed it was worth a shot before doing the expensive lock replacement. Well, the key I had made at Bergman's *DID* work! Perfectly! I'm just as happy about finally getting my car situation resolved cheaply as I am about how friendly and helpful they were at Bergman's. I know where I'll be going back to get duplicates. read more

I called Bergman's after my kyrptonite u lock failed while it was locked to my bike and the bike racks in my apartment building garage. Aaron was very nice and explained how he was going to try to fix the lock before we went straight to cutting it off, which would save me some money. Unfortunately the lock had failed and he had to cut it off. He was right on time and very friendly. $90 for the whole thing but Kryptonite reimbursed me so I didn't mind the price. read more

I will never return to use them. I have used Bergman's for years as needed. Today I was trying to get a key duplicated as I have many times before. Lonnie - who was quite proud of the fact that he is in charge- very curtly and rudely informed me that he couldn't duplicate it for me due to company policy. I understand policies and am a fan of abiding by policy. However, I very politely went on to explain to him that I had done this many times over and so while that might be policy, assuredly, there are several of his employees who have violated that policy in the past. Lonnie became rude and dismissive. And that is just not right or called for. I get that you have a policy. And I'm not even upset about you keeping it. What I am upset by is being rudely dismissed. And I will never return and encourage others to avoid being treated rudely as well. read more

I'm an apartment manager, and I use Bergman's for all my keys and locks. The property management company I work for has an account with them, and being a large account, perhaps I receive better customer service than a regular drop in costumer, but they have always been first rate. They always recognize and remember me whenever I call or go in, and have ever since my second visit. If I have an emergency lock situation, they squeeze me into their schedule, and even when they are busy, they almost always get the work done quicker than their latest estimate. read more

This place is amazing! Twice this year my car door key has snapped off in the middle leaving half stuck in the lock and me with a broken key. (Yes, I have an ancient and decrepit car, but that is another story.) Both times I have come to Bergman's without an appointment and found quick and friendly help to get the key out and to make replacements of the key. The two different locksmiths who have helped me have been unfailingly helpful and friendly. Seemed knowledgeable about other issues too (I have a tendency to eavesdrop when waiting.) And, it doesn't cost a fortune. Incredibly reasonable service fee and charge for making extra keys. I am so glad they are in the neighborhood. I recommend them without reservation. read more
