Let me please share with you why I would not recommend this restaurant. It is in the old ZTejas space in the Arboretum but it does not live up to its predecessor's reputation. We were excited to try this place for date night. I liked that they have free valet parking. That may be one of the larger benefits of this location. We were seated in a corner by a staff area that held the wine, and also had quite possibly the world's loudest beaded curtain that hit all of the waitstaff in the face whenever they walked through. We waited a very long time for drinks and food orders. The wait was so long that a waiter from another table noticed and came to help. He brought us a complimentary guacamole, which was nice, except I am allergic to avocados. The chips and salsa are listed as a salsa flight, which sounded fun, but was just a way to cleverly overcharge for chips and salsa. The chips were outstanding but the salsa was meh. Also... no queso option! We are in Austin, folx. We ordered the short rib and the carne asada, as well as the papas. The beef was delicious and but we felt it was overpriced and not worth the loud atmosphere and poor service. The potatoes had both sesame and nuts on them. Neither of these ingredients were listed on the menu, so we would would not have ordered it had we known because my spouse is allergic to both. The carne asada also came with black beans covered with cheese, both of which my partner does not eat. Had they been listed on the menu, he would have ordered differently. The menu needs work because it doesn't list ingredients or really give you a good idea of what you're actually ordering. It is mostly in Spanish without a ton of translation so we had to look up several items on translate. I get that they are going for authentic, but customers deserve to know what they are eating and ordering. They have no paper or digital dessert menu so we again had issues knowing exactly what to expect, but we did get an impressive looking piece of chocolate cake. Despite looking incredible, it was dry and bland. We were very disappointed by this restaurant and probably will not return. It's a relatively new establishment and I hope they will take feedback and improve the experience for future guests. I was hopeful for a new Northside date night find, but it was incredibly disappointing and underwhelming. To summarize, it's loud, with slow service and the menu is confusing and misleading. The food is alright but overpriced and not exceptional. read more

The service and ambience were spectacular. Our waitress checked on us numerous times, suggested menu items, and was extremely polite despite how busy they were! We had the salsa tasting, guacamole, campechana, and crab tostada for appetizers. Not only were the plates beautifully presented, but they were also delicious! For our entrees, we shared the pork rib carnitas and papas a la plancha. The potatoes were perfectly charred with a hint of sea salt. I will definitely be visiting again! read more

ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY AMAZING. I AM IN LOVE I AM IN LOVE I AM IN LOVE. (Although this girl has expensive habits. Will our relationship be economically viable? That remains to be seen.) * * * Bulevar is a fusion of two completely different kinds of restaurants. Each half of the Bulevar package is amazingly successful at doing what it does. This is a combination of a) a steak house and b) a gourmet Mexican restaurant As a steakhouse it is absolutely one of the best in our city. As a Mexican restaurant, it is up there with Fonda San Miguel and Suerte. This means Bulevar is forking amazing. * * * The steakhouse is about three times as expensive as the Mexican restaurant. My New York Sirloin cost more than the grand total of everything else a party of three had where two of the people did not have steak. That New York Sirloin was worth every single solitary centavo. I would order it again no questions asked - even if that meant ignoring the panicked look on the face of my accountant. There are a whole lot of steakhouses in this town where you get a steak no better than what you could have cooked yourself in your own broiler or your own backyard grill. I am one very unhappy Yelper when I go to one of those. This was one of the best steaks I ever had in my life. I savored every single solitary molecule. Note that at 30 ounces there were a lot of single solitary molecules to savor. The thicker the steak got, the better the steak got. The thick part came at the end. So unlike a lot of plain meat dishes, this steak just kept getting tastier and tastier as the meal progressed. * * * The other four components of a fine steakhouse are a) a luxurious room b) magnificent bar offerings c) side dishes to die for. d) expert impeccable service. Bulevar's ratings on the big four are yes, yes, yes and yes. a) The room is on a high hill at the Galleria with sweeping panoramic views of Southwest Austin. At twilight, the view from Bulevar makes the sunsets at the Oasis look like a grainy reproduction. The interior decorating is no slouch either. (Although if they swapped out the Zorro painting for something a little less silly, I would not object.) b) It was a work night for me, so no drinking. (Cry cry cry cry cry.) But the list of tequilas and mescals is absolutely stunning. Suerte can give their bar list a run for the money. But if you can't find a Mexican beverage you adore at Bulevar, Something is wrong with you. You can settle for a lemonade if you insist. c) The side dishes are die and go to heaven stuff. I had the fingerling potatoes with salsa and preserved lemon vinaigrette. OH. MY. GOD. OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD. The potatoes were even better than the steak ... And I adored my steak. Appetizers were chips and salsa. Their salsas are good but Austin has a lot of fine salsas in the competing lanes. My tablemates loved the lemon bar ... but I was underwhelmed. But after a steak and potatoes like that ... Who gives a petunia about a blinkin blinkin lemon bar? I had already gone to the moon and back 28 times. d) Service. There are two schools of A++++++ service. d1) Quiet, servile, invisible hands. Food magically appears. Plates magically disappear. d2) Yoda, the Food Sommelier of Profound Wisdom. Bulevar goes with the Yoda approach. I applaud wholeheartedly. Most steakhouses train people in the servile approach. A steak is a steak so there is little information to impart. The customers are titans of the business world. They like lording people around. The help should never tell the boss what to do. Bulevar has a real kitchen and does real cooking. So the expertise of the waiter really matters at this establishment. There is a lot to know here and much of it is non-obvious. Our table was expertly advised about both food and drink - by a man who knows everything there is to know about good Mexican food and drink. This is not "Steak House Help." It is far far better than "Steak House Help". * * * How is the Mexican restaurant side of the menu as opposed to the steakhouse side? My tablemates ate Mexican. The star of THAT show was a wood roasted Hawaiian kampache. I have eaten a lot of Mexican seafood, a lot of Basque seafood, a lot of Spanish seafood, a lot of Portuguese seafood and a lot of Thai seafood. Those countries make amazing seafood. The kampache was up there with the best fish dishes I have had in any of those other countries. I would order that for myself in a New York minute. If I could get myself not to order that legendary New York Sirloin. * * * Waiting for the bank account to refill before I go back to Bulevar. When I go, I will make a point to get a seat on the back porch with the sunset view. I will come with a designated driver because I intend to drink big and drink well. What will I order? Oh my god there are so so so many incredible choices .... * * * Life is short. Bulevar's menu is long. read more

Not sure.. just not the same level of love.. the vibe was off.. prices too high and overall not outstanding..

I've been several times, and Bulevqr continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The food is excellent, service is always enjoyable, and it's such a lovely space that still feels cozy, though it's quite large. Anytime we have company in town, my vote is always Bulevar! read more

Any chance to eat elevated Hispanic food is a good one and I had high hopes coming here after having been to their sister restaurant ATX Cocina, yet I couldn't help but feel that they missed the mark a bit more than I would've thought: - Carne Asada was way too salty and we mentioned this to the server andddd nothing came of that - though the char flavor was fantastic - These were crispy on the outside which is fine in itself, yet the menu didn't mention this as I would've preferred the corn tortillas to be soft - Mixto Pibil was good, but nothing special though for $36 I had higher expectations Though not everything was bad, their Borracho Snapper and Sope Del Fuego dishes were easy 10/10s. They even had this boozy off-menu horchata you can order and I was shook with how good it was. Interior is pretty nice and I do like the low-lit ambiance. Normally I'd give them a 4/5, but the service I received was just so bad and so slow. Took about 20+ minutes just to order drinks! So with that said, I must give a 3/5, but perhaps if I come back I could give them another chance to re-evaluate because there is a lot of potential here. read more

We've given Bulevar many chances because the food is good and we are gluten free! But time after time, the service is shockingly poor. I don't know if it's the quality and training of the waitstaff or if they just overload them to the point they can't take care of their tables. We went THIRTY MINUTES without seeing our waitress! That's unacceptable and unfortunately this is what we've come to expect at Bulevar. I had to finally just ask the hostess to help me since the waitress forgot about us (thank you to the hostess). It's also loud so if you are going for conversation it may not be the best choice. read more

No one bothered to reach out after many massages and an email to the manager . We had our anniversary dinner at Bulevar--a restaurant we had been looking forward to trying for quite some time. I booked a reservation for 7 pm outside, specifically to catch the sunset. Unfortunately, things were running behind, and we were told that people just weren't leaving. We completely understand that things happen, but after waiting until 7:20 pm and missing the sunset entirely, our experience took a turn for the worse. As first-time visitors, we mentioned this to our waiter, who recommended two dishes: the bone marrow and the duck appetizer. That was about the extent of his guidance. He seemed distracted, frequently leaving mid-explanation to attend to other tables. Feeling a bit on our own, we ordered and asked if we had selected enough food. He suggested adding one more main dish, which we did. The guacamole arrived right away, but then we waited 30 minutes for our drinks. When we asked our waiter about the food, he simply said, "I don't have a good answer." After another 15-20 minutes, all four remaining dishes came out at once, including our appetizer. It was clearly way too much food served all at once and not well-timed. While I have to say the food was fantastic, the service was not up to par. For what ended up being a $215 dinner, we were left feeling extremely disappointed rather than celebrated on our special night. read more

Really great spot on the north side in the Arboretum area. The building, decor and furniture are very nice. They have huge paintings to candy skulls all over. The food was excellent. We had the clams and chorizo, Duck Carnitas Tetela, Hamachi, Papas Fritas & short rib. The papas was our favorite. Service was on point and the drinks were strong. Highly recommend if you don't want to head downtown. read more

Overall quite creative (and expensive). They made a bad initial impression when we had to wait 15 minutes despite having reservations and early in the evening. Once we were seated, the server was knowledgeable and efficient. There were several large groups in the restaurant including a 16 top in our waiters section so I had to cut him some slack. The salsa flight with tomatilla, red, and ancho salsas were quite tasty and the chips were in house made rather than out of a bag. My halibut was quite tasty. The air fried kale on top was a nice touch. I didn't care much for the squash but that is just me. My wife's puerco was a massive pork steak prepared Milanese style with fresh toppings including a lot of avocado. It was more than she could eat. Overall, I would give it about a 6.5 on a scale of 10, subtracting for the poor reservation/host handling and the high prices. Food was very good and the wait for the food was not too long considering the number of large parties. Might go back again if in the right mood. read more

My wife and I spent a wonderful evening at Bulevar recently. Within walking distance from the nearby Renaissance Austin Hotel, we snagged a reservation and headed over at the prescribed time. The interior space is beautiful, with many upscale touches. The patio area features a beautiful view of the Austin area hill country, so try to check that out around sundown. Once seated, first up was cocktails. This place has a vast, and I mean vast, mezcal and tequila program. The majority of the drink menu is devoted to these pursuits, so if that's your thing, you've come to the right place. We chose from the signature cocktails; I selected the Resaca Feliz, and my wife opted for the Eucalypso. Both were absolute knockouts, beautifully served and delicious. Since we were walking, we each opted for a second later in the meal. Food was equal or better in quality to the beverage service; featuring a modest menu, the focus is on doing a well curated list of dishes, very well. Here's what landed at our table: - Salsa tasting: Featuring a basket of perfectly toasted and crispy tortilla chips and a trio of salsas including roja asada, salsa verde, and salsa árbol; the former two were fairly mild but packed with flavor, and the latter was bright orange and quite spicy. All three were wonderful, and we didn't leave a drop. - Sope del fuego: Featuring crispy and well-rendered pork belly, flank steak, a bit of sweet from sweet onions and pineapple, and punctuated with some guajillo heat, this was a delicious starter that could easily be a small meal. The masa base was also crispy on the outside giving way to a soft interior, making it a great dish. - Hamachi: Delicate marinated fish in a ponzu and avocado aioli base, this was a nice twist on the classic ceviche, with texture and flavor that brought it all. - Esquites: Most gringos would probably say "hey, this is elotes". Well, in traditional Mexican fare, elotes is served on the cob, and esquites is off the cob, so esquites is the proper term here. Served a little lighter on the cream than most Tex-Mex varieties of the dish, it more than made up for it with strong punch of fresh lime and smoked chile Bottom line, this is a fantastic restaurant that I'll be making a beeline to the next time I'm in Austin. It's a beautiful restaurant, situated in a beautiful area, serving beautiful food and drinks. A winner in every way. read more

Met up with some friends here for dinner. We had a reservation, which listed a dress code of business casual. Not sure how strict they are on enforcing that, but I'm glad the reservation confirmation disclosed that! There was a great view outside from our table and the overall ambiance was lively without being too loud. We ordered Duck Carnitas and Don Frijoles Y Queso for starters. I really liked the carnitas; the frijoles dish was just okay. For dinner we ordered the Carne Asada, the Papas a la Plancha, Mexican street corn, Mixta Pibil, and Tablitas (pork short ribs). Everything was really good. My only critique was the carne asada had some really charred pieces. Other than that all was great! Our server was attentive and helpful in explaining the menu. Our server was exquisitely knowledgeable about the menu and she recommended the fish entree. I wouldn't have normally went for seafood, but she was so passionate about it being the best thing on the menu that I had to try it -- and I'm so glad I did. Absolutely mind blowing flavors. Bulevar is a great experience! We were seated outside on the patio and the view is beautiful. We started with the salsa del dia, hamachi, elotes and potatoes and they were all so delicious. The hamachi was very fresh, the elotes had a memorable smokey flavor and the potatoes were crispy while also having this fresh limey taste. The entrees, swordfish and prawns were top tier. The seafood dishes were tastier than the carne asada. For desserts, opt out of the chocolate cake (it's very basic and huge) and get the arroz flan (it tastes like cinnamon rice pudding in flan form). Overall highly recommend! read more

I don't know how Michelin has not awarded them a star yet. It is my favorite Austin restaurant. Their NY strip is the best steak I have ever had. Their halibut on that chile butter is the best preparation I've ever had. And the maitake mushroom tamale and a cast iron skillet of sizzling torreados on the side fix all my sadness. My only complaint is their happy hour. The food on the happy hour menu is not a good representation of the caliber of food they can do. In fact, I have friends who went for happy hour for their first time and would not have gone back if not for my insistence that their full menu is exceptional. read more

This was the 3rd time I've visited Bulevar and I have to say this last Friday was the best of those three times! It's birthday/Leo season and I was celebrating another friend last week. The six of us were seated on the patio which was pleasant during the evening with the fans. It was also much easier to hear outside than inside. Dafne took great care of us and we shared several appetizers including guacamole, chili relleno, and crab tostadas. I enjoyed the passionfruit cocktail and the tempranillo! Our friend was given a free birthday dessert and they brought us each a complimentary champagne to toast our friend at the end, including one non alcoholic bubbly for our friend who doesn't drink alcohol. They were pretty busy that night and they forgot to bring out two items we ordered, but they quickly removed them from our bill and it turned out well because we were full with all the items we had already ordered! I look forward to eating there again on their patio on the days/evenings the weather is cooperative. :-) read more

Food and atmosphere were amazing. Service good also. Run don't walk. We loved everything.

My friend and I came here on a whim on a Saturday night and were so happy to stumble upon this place! We came late (around 9PM) so we sat at the bar. The servers there were really accommodating and friendly! The food: - Duck Carnitas Huarache (5/5): Wow!! Our bartender recommended this and I loved it. The duck meat was tender, soft, and savory with just the right amount of flavor. The avocado aioli dressing was fantastic. Also even though this is an appetizer, it was definitely big enough to be a meal. - Hamachi (4/5): Very very flavorful. The pairing of burnt pineapple, habanero, and pomegranate seeds was creative! I thought the fish was fresh and delicious, but the flavor was actually too intense for me. The pairing of burnt pineapple, habanero, and pomegranate seeds was creative, but I found it a little to sour for my taste. Still very delicious though! - Sope del Fuego (4/5): The pork belly flavoring was savory and lightly sweet. I expected the texture to be a bit softer but this was cooked more to the crispy side. We also asked our server what the sweetest drink was, and he ended up making us a custom strawberry drink. It was so delicious and you couldn't taste the alcohol at all! read more

Bulevar is definitely a vibe. The outdoor areas are beautiful, and overlooking some great scenery. The happy hour was actually a happy hour and had some great prices on some of their more popular (my opinion!) items. Drinks were fantastic as well. We sat at the bar and they seemed to be a little short staffed at the time, so on the service front it was a little slower, but the bartender was super friendly and personable when she was able to assist, so we had no problems waiting patiently for our food! I'm giving this place 5 stars based on their food alone. Hopefully the cocktails show some improvement. | Food | Everything we had was amazing and flavorful! Herby Guacamole - 5 star: very fresh, creamy and flavorful! It comes with tasty corn chips but my friend couldn't eat those and they provide freshly made tortillas for her (the same tortillas came with our main course too and they seem like they are made in-house). Campechana (red chile marinated shrimp and octopus, avocado, red onion, cilantro) - 5 stars: A powerhouse of unique flavors and one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. Kanpachi (fish special) - 5 stars: I'd never had this fish before but would get it again! It was beautifully cooked, fell off the fork, and the accompanying sauce was the perfect enhancement. | Drinks | Meh. I had the Paloma and it was pretty bland; I think the mix or juice they used was pretty watery. The Heilo Bulbar was better although too sweet. The cocktails are surprisingly expensive considering their quality and size. | Atmosphere | It's the form Z Tejas space and has the same lovely patio with expansive views of West Austin. The inside dining area is stylish and upscale, with Eanes-styled chairs and tables, modernized booth seating, eclectic hanging light fixtures and a cool wall mural. read more

A nice portion of crab with the perfect amount of citrus, spicy mayo and spicy salt. We shared the ceasar salad, and the short rib, plus we wanted a second veggie. Really beautiful setting with excellent service and delicious food. My husband and I shared the Kanpachi, smashed potatoes, avocado, and arugula, salad, and guacamole. I thought the fish was excellent as well as the smashed potatoes. I felt the arugula salad had too much of a sauce, so the lettuce got way too wet, but it was still very flavorful. Cannot rave enough about this amazing restaurant. Beautiful setting, friendly bartenders, super delicious and creative food. Was lucky to snag a same day reservation and learned you can actually reserve bar seats. The bartender accommodated my custom drink request - mescalita with passion fruit juice (extensive list of tequilas and mezcals). Started with lamb appetizer on the HH menu - served on a fresh masa tortilla. Very savory and delicious. Then tried the octopus and shrimp cocktail - favorite dish made with fresh citrus and herbs.
