Egg noodle stir fried with chicken
    Kenny L.

The waiter was super attentive and extremely friendly. The crispy chicken was a bit on the salty side, atypical Vietnamese dish. The egg noodles had quite a lot of vegetables to my liking and wish there was a bit more noodles. The pho soup was light and clear, noodles lack the bounce of freshly made but overall probably a solid choice for the neighborhood.

What a fantastic find! Bui just celebrated its first year in Branford after moving here in March. When we arrived, we were told that they could not take our orders for another 45 minutes because there was a long line of takeout orders ahead of us. We took that as a good omen and waited only 20 minutes. We both ordered large portions of the house special pho, which turned out to be the last portions of soup they had for the day. Come early as they do run out! The soup was fragrant, and the rice noodles firmer than usual. The large meatballs and shrimp were nicely prepared. We were offered their house chili made on-site from a family recipe. We liked it so much, we bought a jar to bring home. The spring rolls were not made with rice skins, but the filling was authentically prepared. The proprietor, Steven is Peruvian and is married to the chef's daughter, so he works everyday with his Vietnamese mother-in-law. He said the first time he tasted her cooking, he told her she should open a restaurant. It was something she always wanted to do, but never got to it. With his encouragement, they got started in Manchester before moving to Branford last year. Will definitely be back! https://www.buifood.com

Stopped into Bui Vietnamese for a takeout lunch of the pork belly Bahn mi. I phoned in my order ahead of time and it was ready within about 20 minutes. When I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the owner who shared with me that he included some of their homemade chili sauce (on the side) with a recommendation that it pairs very well with the Bahn mi. I arrived back at work ready to enjoy my sandwich. I was immediately hit with the delicious aroma and bright, fresh ingredients. The Bahn mi had a generous amount of flavorful pork belly. I added some of the chili sauce and if you like some heat (but not overwhelming) I'd recommend adding it! I look forward to returning and trying more dishes and desserts on their menu.

Bui is great! The owner is so personable, he goes above and beyond to show you dishes on the menu and will share information if you are not familiar with Vietnamese food. In a shopping plaza in the middle of Branford, it's convenient to get to and unassuming in looks. The restaurant is cozy and seems to almost always be full - expect a wait if you don't make a dinner reservation, and during rush times there may be a slower service or items sold out. I ordered the house special pho with beef and shrimp and it was excellent! Broth was delicious, meat and shrimp were juicy, and fried scallions on top was a fun, new twist. Add their house-made chili sauce! It was the favorite dish of the night by far. I've spent some time in Vietnam, and this rendition of hearty pho is worth the drive to Branford. Others ordered: clay pot pork, crispy chicken, and gluten-free pho. They have a helpful gluten-free menu and the owner is very knowledgeable about dietary restrictions for all dishes.

Got takeout for the first time - Hot&Sour Soup and Wonton Soup. Both were incredible. So tasty and filling. Fresh ingredients. Service was super friendly. Restaurant is cute, small, charming family vibes. My hard-sell boyfriend's reaction: "I think we need to make this a regular weekly dinner." Will be back, likely many times.

Excellent food and service! I went on a weekend night, the dining room was full and the take out business was very active. Great flavors!!!

May I give it 7 stars!?! It would be easy to miss this shop, as it is nestled in the Bushy Plaza. There is PLENTY of parking, with grassy areas and a few trees. Once inside, the decor is tasteful and warming. The owner is a shining individual, dedicated to his craft! He provided excellent recommendations, corrected an error along with EXCELLENT service! The food was SUPERB! I enjoyed the Vietnamese vegetarian pancake, and pickled radish with the best chili oil I have had in a long time. The flavors of the whole meal were balanced phenomenally! Especially with the chili oil, which I was told it will be bottled and sold so get in line! The only uninspiring item was the boba, however I am picky because I make my own at home. The Homemade Honey Lemonade was refreshing and unique. I look forward to eating here again. Bui was voted best Vietnamese for in CT, and absolutely deserve the award!

    Chili sauce! Spicy deliciousness!

We went for the lunch special which had two options: $12 lunch with choice of appetizers & main or $15 lunch which is the same as the $12 option but just includes a choice of drink. We both got Vietnamese Coffee. I got the iced and she got the hot version. The iced Vietnamese coffee is already premixed, but the hot version they give a side of the condensed milk so you can add as much or little you want. I tried their spring rolls which had a nice crisp bite. It was also served with pickled daikon and carrots for a nice refresher. For the entree I got the pho bo vein which had beef meatballs as the protein. The basil, jalapeño slices, bean sprouts and lime slice are on the side, so you can add as much to your liking. The noodles were nice and bouncy. The broth was light and flavorful. We always have great service every time we go. Definitely will be back in the future.

I did not notice until I was mostly complete with my sandwich, but luckily did not bite into the pepper before noticing the fuzz growing on it. However, you can clearly see the fuzzy pepper in the picture I took before digging in. I got the lunch special, which features a drink, app, and entree. The lemonade was nice and fresh tasting, the crispy wings were fantastic, and the banh mi was actually very tasty. Not the best I've had, but it was flavorful and the pickled veggies tasted fresh. I was very disappointed to find a moldy pepper, which ultimately ruined the experience for me. Hopefully, nothing I actually ate was bad, and this pepper was the only one that went missed in a kitchen check. I hate to turn folks away from a nice local spot with good tasting food, but I will never recommend a spot with moldy food.

At the time, I found the ramen competent and the interior pristine, spacious, and modern. Returning for a second visit, I'm happy to report they have withstood the test of time, maintaining high standards for both food quality and cleanliness. To provide context: when Roishi first opened, it felt like ramen shops were everywhere. Fast-forward a few years, fewer shops remain, and unfortunately, many of those survivors just don't stand out to me. The mid-range sushi scene has proven equally unimpressive. Aside from high-end establishments like Hachiroku Handroll Bar, or the outstanding Gohan in Southington, most mid-range joints disappoint with mediocre quality and a lack of creativity. Many may start off strong in quality, like Niu Sushi in East Haven or Sayori in Orange, but eventually their standards slip over time. In the current food scene in Connecticut, finding a restaurant that excels at both ramen and sushi is a rarity. While I enjoy the Spicy Miso at Akatsuki in Hamden, their sushi remains lackluster. Conversely, from what I recall when they initially opened, the sushi at Takumi in Branford impressed me, but their ramen has disappointed. This is where Roishi shines. Perhaps my previous disappointments at other establishments have made me quick to judge, or maybe I simply caught Roishi on an exceptionally good day. Regardless, our last experience at Roishi has won me over, and it has officially become (for now) my go-to for a satisfying bowl of ramen paired with fresh, creative sushi rolls. It is clear the sushi chefs put effort into curating their menu and making their rolls look visually appealing. Our server was pleasant, professional and attentive without being overbearing. While the menu would benefit from rotating specials featuring higher grade ingredients, the restaurant's ability to maintain standards and consistency is a rarity, and is the primary reason I will continue to return as long as they continue to do so!
