Came here while running Saturday errands, and was left disappointed. Saw great reviews about the food and found that it was decent at best. The menu was a little confusing and they had confusing pictures showing what some dishes looked liked (thank you Yelp for review pictures!) I got Shrimp and Vegetable Pho, and found it rather disappointing. There were only about 3 shrimp in the entire dish, and it made up 75% of the flavor of the Pho. The vegetables were hard and chewy, as is they had just been thrown in before serving. Many of the vegetables that come with all the Pho bases were lacking, with mainly just some greenery covering the top of the plate. Not very many noodles with the dish, either. Finally, the broth and overall taste was very watery. For almost $17 a dish, you're paying for quantity over quality. The service here was also very lacking, making it hard to enjoy my dish. The server was very short with me and my party as well as other customers and at times just rude. I had to ask for water after ordering, rather than having it brought out. Additionally, needed to get extra silverware for my party as they didn't hand out enough. We were the only ones in the restaurant for about 3/4ths of our time there, and couldn't get ahold of our waitress for most of the time. When went to pay, I had a promotional coupon for 25% off and was rudely told they "don't do that. No discount." Not very customer service oriented; even if they couldn't honor the discount, the manner in which they communicated that was disrespectful. A little politeness would've made up for the food being subpar. The ambiance was overall nice, which is why I give this place two stars instead of one. The atmosphere was peaceful and decorated with traditional Vietnamese decorations and visuals. The floors and overall restaurant were clean, including the bathrooms. I wanted to like this place, as I enjoy Asian cuisine very much. Unfortunately, the poor food and even poorer customer service left me feeling unhappy. The food was just ok so will work if you're looking for something else besides seafood or bar food. The pho options are pretty limited so just your basic beef, chicken or vegetables. The most exotic thing on the menu for non-city folks is probably the beef balls. The broth was ok (a bit on the light side) and not too bland but I did add in all the extra ingredients like how it's supposed to be such as the thai basil and lime juice so it tastes more legit. Pro tip: mixing sirachi and hoison sauce on the side to dip your beef is ace! The spring rolls were ok but definitely tasted more like a Chinese spring roll than a viet spring roll. The pork banh mi was decent and my husband enjoyed it. We originally wanted the pork chops over rice but was told they were out of rice at around 6:30pm. I thought maybe they ran out because it was closing time but they don't close until 9pm so maybe they had some supply issues. This place is a typical Viet Pho eatery. It's located in a house like structure NEXT to DONAHUES & DIRECTLY ACROSS from FISH TALES. It's a very small simple establishment with a small menu of basic Vietnamese dishes. The woman was very sweet & immediately greeted me & adjust if I was dining in. I sat down & she immediately brought over a glass of ice water, and a menu. It's not a huge menu but it did include the basics. I was in the mood for Pho & settled on the Beef which is Eye of Round. She checked on me & took my order & 5 minutes later, she came back with a steaming bowl of fragrant Pho tai. It had a lovely broth with fresh herbs cilantro, parsley, & slivered white onion with crispy shallots sprinkled on top. It was very good. The portion was medium sized & had the requisite ingredients. My ONLY qualm is that it's a bit pricey for a Medium bowl of Pho @$16.95. Most places I have been to around the US are around $12.95. I think $16.95 is a little steep. I would like to try their Banh Mi because if it's done right, it can be delicious. I also want to try their fried Spring Rolls. Will update this review when I go back. For now, it's a solid choice albeit a bit pricey for Vietnamese Pho. ENJOY! read more

Really a 3.5 stars. Like some of the other reviewers, I found their pho to be a little more on the bland side. They also didn't have beef tripe and beef tendon, but gave a pretty large serving size, moreso than at most pho places, though the cost of their pho is also higher. Stopped by for lunch after some Xmas shopping at the Clinton Outlets. I actually drove right past it, it's in a building with a pizza place. Can't say I was impressed by the place too much. I ordered some spring rolls and a bowl of chicken pho. The spring rolls weren't bad but the chicken pho, well......there was more broth than any else. They skimped on the pho noodles, yes the noodles - the cheapest part of the meal. I swear I got about 3-4 bites of noodles only and spent the next 15 mins scouring for remnants of any noodles left in the bowl like a savage. The broth itself was just ok, And really, for $11 - the serving size is not what I'm used to. It was one size only, small IMO. The best part of my lunch was the waitress (cue : sarcasm). She was legit on her phone the ENTIRE time servicing people. She had her headset in and was talking to someone the entire time I was there - I find this incredibly rude and unprofessional. I went today because there was a restaurants.com coupon/gift card. We got there and ordered from the menu 3 bowls of Pho and the summer rolls. Summer rolls were okay, but I was really disappointed in the Pho I ordered the chicken and shrimp pho and it only came out with shrimp, they brought me out some chicken which was fine but the real issue was with the broth, not a good tasted and the fried onions in the broth left it with a weird after taste, maybe it would have been better if I got the beef broth. Anyways not how pho both should taste The next issue was that they were not accepting the restaurant.com coupon which we had just bought a week ago... a small sign below the register had the coupon written out and then said "fraudulent coupon no longer accepted". Now I've gotten maybe restaurant.com coupons before, yes sometimes restaurant owners will pull their place off the website, but then the website will email and give you the chance to redeem the coupon for another coupon and a different place...the waitress was not able to explain why the coupon is not accepted and when we asked her additional questions she just said she didn't understand English. Finally she called the owner but we were still not able to use the coupon/gift card from restaurants.com. As much as it pains me to say this, I take back about what I said earlier in my review. This is not what the town needed. The town needed a decent Vietnamese restaurant and unfortunately this place ain't it. I've given this place enough tries and it fails on many accounts. First, the portion sizes are a little bit too small. On more than one occasion I walked away hungry. Second, the quality is quite bad. One good example was my last bánh mì sandwich which contained some type of ham lunch meat. It was really bad lunch meat, like the kind Oscar Myer sells prepackaged at the supermarket. It was bad. Did I mention it was bad? Plus, their pho isn't anything to write home about because it's very bland. One time I informed the counter girl how I recently had a peanut satay type of pho at another Vietnamese restaurant, and she said she could provide the same. Unfortunately she merely handed me a couple packets of hot sauce. Big whoop de doo. That's not exactly what I had in mind. Lastly, the atmosphere inside the place is in need of sprucing up. There's never any nice background music yet they have speakers mounted above near the ceiling. The wall decorations are cheesy and the soda cooler doesn't help with the ambience either. First of all, it's a miracle that a pho restaurant even exists in Madison. If you love Vietnamese food, and you live on the Shoreline, you'll find this place a most welcome addition to the local food scene. It's pretty bare bones, like any decent pho restaurant should be. This is the owner's first try at running a restaurant, and she's just getting her sea legs. But for whatever shortcomings this place has, she makes up for them with her very warm presence, and she is fantastic with kids (she has four of her own). The food is solid. Not take-your-breath-away great, but good. And my guess is it will get better over time. If you're looking for pho, or green papaya salad, or Vietnamese fresh rolls, and you live nearby, you should be very, very happy. read more

The whole time I was waiting, one of the workers was tinkering with the TV trying to get a movie to play while she ate her own lunch. I think she was playing a game on her phone, because it kept making some obnoxious sound over and over again, which is the only thing I heard as I waited 15 minutes for the sandwich; then, the spring rolls came out afterwards.
