You walk in to counter where you order and small unfancy tables but the food is solid portioned served fast and fresh at a great price! We did get the sense that they held back on the traditional Vietnamese spice. In our multi-day stay, Pho170 is a staple. Top picks for food portion and quality - garlic beef, spicy basil beef, etc. We had mixed opinions on their Vietnamese sandwich. This is a really good local pho place. I ordered the brisket pho and my husband ordered the combination pho. It was everything that we expected. I love the homemade chili sauce and I put it in my pho for a kick of spice. The spring rolls are pretty good too although next time I'll get the chicken. Yum! This is the first time I've tried pho, so I don't know how it compares to other places, but it was very tasty. I tried the chicken pho and my partner had the brisket pho, both of which were really flavorful. We also got the crab rangoon. It was definitely one of the best crab rangoon I've ever had! The sandwich was fresh and flavorful, the beef pho had a lovely broth that was enjoyable to eat with plenty of thai basil and sprouts to add in. The crispy spring rolls hit the spot with the sweet dipping sauce, and the drunken noodle was much better than other iterations I've tried in the past. Came here on a lunch break one day to fulfill my Pho craving. Parking outside was a pain (have to pay to park). I sat at the bar, it took awhile for someone to realize I was there, and he wasn't the friendliest man, but it's ok, I just wanted some soup in my life! I ordered the rare beef pho soup. Came with the side of fix-Ins minus the jalapeño, wah. Was served with a tiny side of sriracha and hoisin sauce which of course I had to ask for more and got another tiny side. I came here after hearing that a new pho place had opened up in Middletown. Given the amount of Vietnamese cuisine in the area, I was a bit skeptical at first - but I must say I am overall pleased with the quality of the food. For an app, I started off with the standard fare of shrimp and pork spring rolls. The rolls were fairly average, a bit on the smaller side with a nice and firm wrapper. What really sold it though was the sweet peanut sauce they provided. This one was a bit thinner than other places but had nice strong hints of fish sauce that are usually hidden. Needless to say, I made sure I put sauce on every piece. For the entree, I ordered the Steak Combo Pho. This is where the real star shines. For starters, the pho was filled with beef. Nothing was skimped. Brisket, flank, bible tripe, beef meatball, and even tendon were all included. The meatballs weren't too hard and had a nice "mouth feel" to them. Even the tendon was cooked just right, so that it had just enough chew. The broth is light, not too salty, with more of an onion taste. That being said, I did have a few complaints. The noodles were a bit too soft and I found them to be too short. Additionally, I feel that they should offer at least two sizes for the dishes. I had also gotten a taro bubble tea and bahn mi to go. Those were a bit underwhelming, with the tapioca being a bit too al dente and the bahn mi (while good) having too little filling. Overall, I would definitely recommend Pho 170. It fares better than its main competitor Lan Chi's which is pricier. Additionally-the service was excellent, with the waitress constantly checking up on me to make sure everything was OK. Beware if you don't eat meat. I had chicken in my pineapple rice and I ordered vegetable. I'm a vegetarian and don't eat meat if any kind so I was alarmed to see a long piece of chicken. We come here often since it's one of our favorite pho places to go to. We recently ordered our usuals - two tofu thai fried rice and tom yum pho to go and as soon as we got home, my boyfriend found a long piece of hair in our fried rice (eww!) we lost our appetite and we ended up just throwing out both the fried rice and just forced myself to eat the tom yum pho! I couldn't call that night since they were already closed by the time we found out. I called yesterday, talked to one of the employees about it and she hung up on me. Called again and she kept telling me to call back at 12 when the manager gets there. I call back again and she said she wasn't coming in and to call back again tomorrow. Well i called back today and she said the manager won't be in until next monday morning. She said the only thing she could do is to give me cash back on one of the fried rice that i bought. My friend wanted SPICY yesterday so a group of us came to Pho 170. It's a no-frills place, primarily more of a takeout place, but they do have ~8 tables. When we got there, many people were having dinner inside the restaurant. I'll start off with a few negatives: 1. 2 of us got there first and were hungry so we were going to put a few appetizers in. The waitress came over and she's like "Oh you have to order everything all at once or things get lost/confused back there." Um, that's your fault. Organize better. It's completely normal to order some appetizers and then later order the meals. 2. On their menu it said they charge for takeout containers. I don't know if I've ever seen that, but that just seems super cheap. 3. Our waitress was very curt. First, not letting us order the apps, then she literally kept nearly throwing things down at our table, near the one spot nobody was sitting - our plates, appetizers, etc. Barely spoke to us at all after that and we'd done nothing at all rude to her. Bad day? I dunno. Very unwarranted. And onto the good: The pho was tasty! I like when places have the little picnic type boxes on the side that have extra sauces, spoons, forks, chopsticks, napkins, etc. so you can add whatever you'd like and not have to bother the staff. We'd recently gone to the new ramen place in Middletown and they had nothing on the tables, barely gave you any additional sauce, etc. I added a ton of sriracha to mine and it was very good, not too spicy. Though, like the ramen place, definitely lack of veggies or other solids (besides the noodles and 4 shrimp) in my bowl. I finished my noodles and was still hungry and they don't have a menu option for 'more noodles' so I stole some of my husband's once he was finished. Main Street in Middletown is home to many eclectic places to eat. Pho 170 is one of them. I am always interested in trying new places which serve Vietnamese cuisine so I jumped at the chance to trying here. There were two dishes ordered. The pho with tofu and beef pad tai (which was not was as initially ordered but ended up being good) I particularly blame myself for that mistake because I tried to order the dish in Vietnamese which is Pho Tai. The Pho W/tofu was very good with a very flavor able broth - which is the benchmark of any pho. The pad tai was average - not the best I've had but certainly not the worst. We sat at the bar and placed our order- this place is nice and clean, the service was good, our food came quickly. We tried the beef pho and chicken pho- both delicious! We tried some of the spicy sauce in the glass container; I added ONE DROP to my pho and it ended up being perfectly spicy with a delicious flavor. Any more would have been too much. I got the combination pho. The broth -- which is really the basis to judge a Pho, let's be honest -- was rich and complex. Lots of flavor to it. So much so that I almost forgot to add some hot sauce to it. The noodles and an ample supply of meat made it a great dish for lunch. Not too heavy. My only issue is I wasn't a big fan of some of the pieces of meat -- you know, the cartilage. That's more me than anything. And I missed the mint to put in the soup. So far I have tried the pho tom yum with shrimp and the pho with chicken. Both times I was delighted by the amount of meat and noodles, as some pho places can be a little stingy with both. The broth was very tasty and not even remotely salty. My only small complaint is that I wish that they offered tofu or the option of adding veggies to any pho. But I'd rather see them make what they have really well than try to serve many things that are just acceptable. The service is efficient and the employees are friendly and pleasant. Really good bowl of soup! I got the beef combination bowl. I was a bit bummed it didn't come with tripe but it was quite good. Good amounts of flank and round. The fat on the brisket was not fully rendered out like it often is, so the meat was still very tender and flavorful. Not grainy. The round was also tender and flavorful. Tons of tendon. Some people may be put off by the amount of tendon in my particular bowl but I thought it was great. The tendon gives the broth an unctuous mouthfeel, which is pretty great except I had to type "unctuous mouthfeel" *shudders*. The broth overall was very good. Not super spice forward, but not subdued either. Beef, cilantro, and onions were the main flavors. Excellent clarity too (if that's your thing). Oh and the meatballs! I usually HATE meatballs in pho. They are typically rubbery and flavorless. While these did have some of the characteristic chew of vietnamese soup meatballs, they were relatively tender and had great taste! That's literally the first time I'm ever enjoyed the meatballs in pho. Soup is an easy 4 stars. Friendly service, clean condiment rack, and price (only $10 for a big bowl) get it 5 stars no problem. Update: Last time I went in the soup had taken on whole new levels and layers of flavor. It seems to have a smokey flavor to it and the unctuous quality and clarity are phenomenal.
