We came here after hearing there is a new pho restaurant in Middletown. We drove 45min to eat here. I'm a Vietnamese FOOD LOVER and big eater. And I was DISAPPOINTED . I will not say the food was horrible: it was eatable but not really good. However, the service was correct. We ordered: - Pho Beef and Meat Balls: poor quality meat - Wonton Egg Noodle Soup: not really good - Vietnamese Sandwich: very poor quality bread - Even our water tastes "Funny". How I score: I like to give a fair rating spanning across what I consider three major contributors to the quality of a restaurant: Ambiance Food Service All three make up my score. That said, here's my review.. I gotta say, I love Pho.. spicy food makes me happy, and so does Pho! Growing up in Queens I've eaten a lot of Pho, and I would definitely put them in my rotation when considering Pho. Some things weren't my cup of tea, like the fried dumplings.. meh.. the crispy spring rolls were good, but average. As was the Crab Rangoon. The Pineapple fried rice could've used more Pineapples, and a bit more flavor. The Pho though was excellent. Service: Good. Nothing stand out one way or another. Very friendly "family run" staff. The food was excellent! Service was pretty bad. A couple came in after us and were served first. The server looked like a smile was going to kill her. My friend asked for her pho without the sprouts. I didn't get mine when the food came so I asked at the counter and the server came back with an attitude and even said "you didn't want them, that's why I didn't bring them" and she walked away. Stopped in here for the second time this month, and both times the food has been excellent! I've tried two of the soups and have found them to be hearty, full of meat and noodles in a scrumptious broth. My dining companion today had a noodle dish made with tofu and it was excellent. Most vietnamese restaurant dont provide service. I understand that, but at least show that you care about the people that are coming into your business to spend money. Ask them how the food are? Was everything fine? Would you like anything else? Not one word was mention. The portion of pho they gave was little, the broth wasnt even added up to the top of the bowl. After mixing the beef and the noodle, my broth disappeared because it was soaked up by the noodles. Broth is not even expensive. I wasn't expecting to see a pho place on Main Street, so coming across it was a pleasant surprise. This isn't a fancy place, just a nice little dive where you can get delicious grub. I think it's great that Middletown has so much variety in its downtown restaurants and Pho 170 is one example of that. I had a Vietnamese sandwich and some spring rolls and found them both to be very good. The price is very affordable and the service is very friendly. I'm sure I'll stop in again sometime. read more

Not "fo" not "fah". "FA". We had heard good things from friends and Yelpers so decided to check it out. The atmosphere is pretty "fast food" style. No linens, disposable chopsticks. The staff were super friendly and the restaurant and rest rooms were clean. We were seated quickly, away from the door and our waiter brought waters right over. We ordered steamed dumplings and each got a bowl of pho. Toni got chicken and I got seafood. Neither of us knew what to expect. We received a quart bowl full of broth and noodles. My seafood was a little chewy. Is that how it should be? I don't know. Toni's chicken was nice and tender. The broth was very flavorful. I threw in some sciracha for heat. The dumplings were awesome. They were gone before they could even cool a little. I would have eaten four if Toni didn't stop me. So the experience was good. The soup was tasty. The service great. Pho 170 is the first restaurant I tell people about if they ask for noodles near Middletown. The aesthetics inside is clean and somewhat minimalistic, but their food and pricing is what's important, and they excel in those two categories. The quality is high, and it's apparent their food is fresh. Combined with the low pricing and large portions, this makes this small restaurant a must-have in the Middletown food district. For those who don't eat meat, or avoid animal products, the broth used in the pho is a beef broth (according to the waitress), but that's fairly typical of Vietnamese pho, so I don't believe the tofu pho is vegetarian or vegan. However, there are plenty other options in the entrees. I love this place, and hope they stay around for years to come! read more

There was a very good Pho spot in Middletown that closed after the owners moved back to Vietnam ;( My girlfriend and I are pretty much Pho obsessed. Our families have also joined the ranks with us. Anyways, when they left we were devastated! This means we travel to West Hartford to Pho Boston since it has some of the best Pho in the state. I am so happy to have a new Pho spot just down the street from my house in mtown. We saw the "opening soon" sign and have been anxiously waiting for opening day. We tried our first bowl of the classic brisket and beef balls pho a couple days after they opened. The broth is light yet really savory. I know what you're thinking that's an oxymoron. Nope. This is real deal Pho that is perfectly balanced. The fresh spring rolls were good but the crispy veggie spring rolls were even better. They have a spicy sauce for the pho that makes an excellent dipping sauce if you want some hair on your chest. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality. The open kitchen makes it a fun experience. The chefs are clearly passionate, I think they are the owners? I will be a regular customer here and hope it never leaves my backyard! read more

I'm a big pho fan and this definitely disappointed. I got the pho beef and I tried the broth it was essentially flavorless. I added the ingredients and it got worse. They only have mint, sprouts, and jalapenos. The noodles were incredibly mushy and the beef chewy. Upset that it's so affordable and close and really not good! read more

My husband and I went out for a quick date night tonight and chose this restaurant for our meal. It's a basic yet clean and bright dining room with no fancy element about it. I've heard good things and we decided to give it a try. We sat at the bar and were greeted instantly by the cook, the bus boy, and the waitress. Waters and menus were also given within seconds of us sitting down. I ordered the steamed dumplings as an appetizer but the waitress informed me they we sold out and promptly suggested I order the fresh vegetable rolls which I did order. My husband also ordered the tom yum shrimp to start. Both orders were in front of us within a mere minute. They were delicious and the sauce they give you with the vegetable rolls makes the dish sing. It's pretty evident that they slice the vegetables fresh in house because there was a produce sticker mistakenly left on a pepper in my husband's soup. He pointed it out to the waitress and she apologized with sincerity, took the bowl, and asked the cook to make a new bowl. We know he got a new fresh bowl because we were able to watch him make it from where we were sitting. I am very satisfied with the way they took care of us. For our meals I ordered the beef and meatball pho and my husband ordered the drunken noodles. I enjoyed being able to watch our meals cooked in front of us and served to us hot. Everything had a fresh, clean taste too it. The cook came over and double checked that he had not made my husband's drunken noodle too spicy which it was not. I did have to remove the onions from my bowl, they had more of a raw flavor and texture and I don't care for that, but seeing as this was my first time eating Vietnamese food it's probably just a small cultural difference that I'm not used to. I also HAD to try the bubble tea. I ordered a Lychee fruit flavored one and it was interesting. I had no idea if I would like it or not, not my favorite thing in the world as it was very sweet but I'm happy to say I tried it. Yum! I ordered the Basil Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai. The Basil Chicken was super spicy/hot and delicious. The Pad Thai, while the noodles were a little skinnier than typical, delicious! The shrimp were cooked perfectly and there was a good portion of them. The food was packed with care (this review during COVID-19) and the restaurant was being careful to maintain social distancing. We like Lan Chi's down the road so we thought we'd give Pho 170 a try. We ordered pho (of course) and enjoyed it a lot. It was a cold night so the hot pho really hit the spot! The quality was comparable to Lan Chi's and a few bucks cheaper. Basically, Lan Chi's is fancier and has better ambiance but the food is great at both restaurants. Really good, if small, menu. Had the steamed dumplings which were standard but came with an above average sauce. Moved to Pho for the main. Lady friend had the beef I had the beef combo. Both were excellent. The combo included generous amounts of steak, meatballs, tendons and tripe. All in an exceptionally flavorful broth. Noodles sprouts and toppings were also very generous.
