Pad see ew with fried tofu
    Sapha H.

We tried this restaurant as a group of 5 plus a baby. Overall we had a great experience! The spice level is actually spicy, I had the spice level 3 and it left a burn in my mouth. I tried the pad see ew with fried tofu and it was really good. The tofu was nice and crispy. My husband had the pad Thai with impossible beef and my son had the kids rice with veggies and vegan chicken. The kids portion was huge, bigger than some of the adult portions at the table! Service was a bit slow, it was interesting that only one waitress was staffed on a Saturday night. However, she was attentive and friendly and contributed to the great experience we had.

Was so happy to find this place! The menu was HUGE and all vegan. Lots of seating available and cute decorations, friendly service. We ordered the chicken satay, a side of tom yum soup (comes with option of clear broth or coconut milk, we got clear), tom yum noodles with broth, General Tso's chicken (upgraded the side rice to fried rice), and Tok Ro Se ramen. Also got Thai iced tea and the strawoffee for dessert. Everything was great! The tom yum soup was my favorite, but overall everything was great. Can't wait to go back, there's so many things I want to try!

I am so grateful for this purely veg Thai restaurant in Middletown. I highly recommend the Chive cake appetizer. It's green and fried, but don't let that put you off. Delicious! We also had the faux duck and noodles in gravy. I suggest that you up the spice level for full flavor. Everything was good, including service by Liza. Come and support this unique establishment.

I finally got a chance to try Aroy Thai Garden vegan restaurant! Josh is the manager. he served us everything we ordered and was amazing. The owner Ning, did all the cooking. The flavors were great. You can see it in the pictures that the portions are generous. Next time we are going to try their dessert but we were too full. Here's to plant base eating a healthier choice!

My hubs & I had this place on a must try list for awhile - vegan Thai restaurant with great flavors is what we heard. We found street parking pretty easily on a Saturday at lunch time. We were warmly greeted by the server/maitre d, and a Middletown pride sign - huge points for me there. We tried the touted crab rangoons, and the waiter suggested blue pea flower dumplings, both were good but neither our favs. I ordered orange "chicken" for my entree the hubs got yellow curry spice level 3 with "chicken" we both loved our entrees they were fantastic with huge portions of which we took home leftovers to enjoy the next day. We would return again as my husband absolutely loved the curry, the service was lovely and it's very hard to find vegan restaurants in CT.

Portions were huge! Prices were so reasonable for the portion size and the food was amazing! Owner is so passionate and truly loves cultivating new dishes and cooking. She is always striving to please customers!

We visited Aroy Thai for a second time, and I think I'm even more impressed! This time we made sure to try some of the appetizers, and I found some of my new favorite menu items! The fried wontons were incredible, and I absolutely loved the beautiful purple color of the fresh dumplings. The crispy pork belly might be even better than real pork belly, and the yum Kai sabb was so flavorful. This night was quieter than our first visit and we found the service to be great.

    Pad See Eew w/Impossible Beef

It was the perfect day for me to not do my research and accidentally stumble upon a vegan restaurant but I'm glad I did. The old Thai Gardens restaurant that's been here since forever for me at least is now vegan with a new chef, new owners and new name "Aroy Thai Gardens". This is definitely a major change for some as like I said, the original Thai Gardens has been here for quite some time so I understand the meltdowns of some consumers as shown in a few online reviews as well as their reactions when being seated at the restaurant. That being said, I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't read but I was seated promptly after being verbally warned about the new vegan only menu. It was a Friday during lent so this place was actually very busy given another consumer base trying to avoid meat and the ambiance was nice and cozy. It felt like the old Thai Gardens which I really appreciate. I decided to go with a personal favorite, Pad See Eew with a twist, Impossible Beef or vegan beef. The vegan beef to me I imagined the typical grounded up beef alternative but to my surprise it looked like I got pieces of chopped steak instead. Also to my surprise, the textures were very pleasant and if it didn't have the slightest flavor of a vegetable in which I cannot identify but am okay with, I honestly would have passed it as beef if I had no idea it was a beef alternative. As for the Pad See Eew itself, the flavors were there and it tasted great. I enjoyed all the perfectly cooked vegetables accompanied with the vegan beef, I felt like I was eating something healthy. Typically asian food isn't unhealthy but this dish in particular, I didn't get the onset of a food coma which I sometimes do after eating a lot of food. So yes their portion sizes are great too, lots of food. I was able to try my girlfriend's vegan chicken curry and I was quite impressed with it too. The flavors were really good and I kinda liked the vegan chicken. It was a little spongey like tofu but tasted great. The curry itself, my girlfriend said it was the best Thai curry she's ever had. She gets curry almost everytime we go out for Thai. In the end, I'm not vegan and I typically always crave some sort of meat to go with every meal. But after eating at Aroy Thai Gardens, I can survive with the impossible (vegan) alternatives. It's worth coming in for the quality of the dishes themselves meat or no meat.

    Drunken Noodle and Thai Tea
    Sarah N.

I ordered the Drunken Noodles with vegan chicken and Thai Tea for delivery. My first impression -- excitement because this is the only place in Middletown I've tried that has served me the right kind of noodles for this dish. I could also tell that, by the color of the noodles, they would be flavorful. Actually trying the noodles, I thought they were good. There could've maybe been a little bit more seasoning, but I did enjoy them. I do wish there was more of the vegan chicken, though, because there were not many pieces. The Thai tea was standard. Next time, I'll come in person to try the shaved ice. I am just glad there's a place in the area to satiate my cravings for Thai, especially when I'm not in the mood for meat!

Creme brulee! And a gluten-free spin on their strawofee dessert - a play on banoffee pie, which they also offer.

In a quieter portion of what can be a busy Main Street, this place is a treasure that we happily drive 30 minutes for! I wish I had documented our first experience, but I'm trying to make up for it now... Everything was not only fresh and beautifully served, but the actual flavor complexity was an immensely pleasant surprise. I opted for 3/5 spice level for the pineapple fried rice, and it had a lovely curry flavor. As you can see the portions were very generous. I will easily have two more meals of the rice. The server was lovely and the restaurant itself is spacious, airy, and has very fun and creative decor, like a huge paper fish. We splurged a bit for a birthday, but really the cost of all of these courses was quite a bargain. Plus, as vegans, we have never found such creative desserts - I have never had whipped cream as good as this! I should have asked how they make it! I'm guessing maybe with cashew, because it did not taste like coconut. We look forward to many returns!

I'm sure they're just getting their footing, since they just went vegan. They certainly have a ton of options, including gluten-free, and of course everything is already dairy-free. The food got mixed reviews from the 3 of us. I thought their "pork belly" app was pretty amazing. Not greasy, super crispy, and although it didn't really taste like pork belly, I still ate all of it. Not quite as yummy the next day. And oh yes, you'll have plenty of leftovers for the next day. The portions are HUGE! I have no idea how they'll stay in business with such tremendous portions. And also, I give them kudos for not kicking us out when we were the last table to leave (still before their closing time, but getting close). So I appreciate that. I'd go back.

    Krista S.

The food is out of this world! Everything is fresh and just so delicious! There is one server that's a little off for my liking, but ill deal with him to eat this food. The Tom Yum noodles are so fricken good. Go here. You want regret it.

About a year ago they went vegan with new owners and a new chef. Time to give it a try. I ordered the kimchi fried rice that according to the description had kimchi and Thai basil two powerful flavors. My wife ordered mango curry. So here is the problem. I found no kimchi in my kimchi fried rice and one small sliver of Thai basil. My wife found one small piece of mango-period. None of the food met expectations and the decor is strange. Inside the place is huge with half of it seeming to go to waste. There are chairs everywhere and the really strange giant mannequin. There's nothing at all wrong with vegan. There's a lot wrong with a lack of ingredients and flavor.

Upon coming in, our party was split into two large tables. It took a little bit of convincing, but they obliged and let us put the tables together. I decided to order the house salad as well as the Rama (a vegetable dish with rice and peanut sauce) with shrimp and tofu. Our appetizers came out quickly and my house salad was very good. It was a combination of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sliced carrots, big pieces of broccoli and cucumber and pineapple with a side of peanut sauce. Scrumptious! Very fresh and tasty. My one downside with the meal was just how long it took to get our entrees. I understand we are a party of 20, but the restaurant wasn't packed by any means. Took more than 1 hour - probably closer to an hour and a half - to get our food. By the time the food came, I was very hungry. However, the rams dish was great. The shrimp was large with a good texture and flavorful taste; the tidy was lightly fried with a nice inside of tofu. The tofu could have been a tad bit hotter and the portions could have been a bit bigger, but otherwise very good. Altogether, I enjoyed my meal and Typhoon. The ambiance is nice and the food is spectacular. Our large party made the wait a bit long, but otherwise very good. Would recommend!
