Wow! I love this place! I came here for the first time with two friends last Saturday. What a cute place! It's located on a corner on Main Street in Middletown. There is ample free parking behind the building too. I was the only vegetarian in the group but the others loved it too! One friend ordered a banana dessert at the beginning of the meal! The presentation was excellent as it was served in a stemmed glass with a big swirl of whipped cream on top! She said it was delicious too! I ordered a Thai basil stir fry and one friend ordered the cashew stir fry. Both came with a side of white rice. My other friend ordered a big soup however I can't remember which one. We all absolutely loved all of our food! Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable as well. We tried this restaurant as a group of 5 plus a baby. Overall we had a great experience! The spice level is actually spicy, I had the spice level 3 and it left a burn in my mouth. I tried the pad see ew with fried tofu and it was really good. The tofu was nice and crispy. My husband had the pad Thai with impossible beef and my son had the kids rice with veggies and vegan chicken. The kids portion was huge, bigger than some of the adult portions at the table! I ordered take out and this was my 2nd time. The pineapple fried rice had no pineapple at all? I transferred it to large bowl to see if I missed. I split into two meals. I happen to have pineapple that I put in. Curry puff was good. The fresh spring rolls were just salad with this awful hard wrap for each roll. I just took all those off and threw out. We ordered the chicken satay, a side of tom yum soup (comes with option of clear broth or coconut milk, we got clear), tom yum noodles with broth, General Tso's chicken (upgraded the side rice to fried rice), and Tok Ro Se ramen. My hubs & I had this place on a must try list for awhile - vegan Thai restaurant with great flavors is what we heard. We found street parking pretty easily on a Saturday at lunch time. We were warmly greeted by the server/maitre d, and a Middletown pride sign - huge points for me there. We tried the touted crab rangoons, and the waiter suggested blue pea flower dumplings, both were good but neither our favs. I ordered orange "chicken" for my entree the hubs got yellow curry spice level 3 with "chicken" we both loved our entrees they were fantastic with huge portions of which we took home leftovers to enjoy the next day. Whether you're dining in on a weekend or grabbing takeout on a weekday, the food and experience are always top-tier. The owner is incredibly friendly and accommodating, which just adds to the overall welcoming vibe. The space is clean, spacious, and perfect for any occasion--date night, lunch with friends, or even a solo meal. It's the kind of spot that feels good every time you visit. My go-to is the drunken noodles with vegan duck--absolutely delicious. I usually get a spice level of 1 (trust me, it can get very spicy, and it goes all the way up to 5). If you're not big on heat, stick with 0 or 1. If you love spice, start at 2 and adjust from there. I tried level 5 once... never again. It's serious. We've also had the crab rangoon and fried wontons for appetizers--both solid choices. The rangoon has changed a bit over the years, likely a new cream cheese, but still tasty and worth ordering. We came here for lunch because my friend wanted Thai food and she was raving about the food here. Once we came in and looked at the menu my friend quickly realized that the Thai restaurant that she was raving about is now under new management and now serves vegetarian only Thai dishes. Our sever mentioned this but my friend was not really paying attention. My friend still chose to stay and give it a try. Our server was very nice and super helpful when we were indecisive about what we wanted. I also appreciate that our sever asked about our spice level or spice tolerance. My meal had just the right amount of spices and was very flavorful. The fried wontons were incredible, and I absolutely loved the beautiful purple color of the fresh dumplings. It was the perfect day for me to not do my research and accidentally stumble upon a vegan restaurant but I'm glad I did. The old Thai Gardens restaurant that's been here since forever for me at least is now vegan with a new chef, new owners and new name "Aroy Thai Gardens". This is definitely a major change for some as like I said, the original Thai Gardens has been here for quite some time so I understand the meltdowns of some consumers as shown in a few online reviews as well as their reactions when being seated at the restaurant. That being said, I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't read but I was seated promptly after being verbally warned about the new vegan only menu. It was a Friday during lent so this place was actually very busy given another consumer base trying to avoid meat and the ambiance was nice and cozy. It felt like the old Thai Gardens which I really appreciate. I decided to go with a personal favorite, Pad See Eew with a twist, Impossible Beef or vegan beef. The vegan beef to me I imagined the typical grounded up beef alternative but to my surprise it looked like I got pieces of chopped steak instead. Also to my surprise, the textures were very pleasant and if it didn't have the slightest flavor of a vegetable in which I cannot identify but am okay with, I honestly would have passed it as beef if I had no idea it was a beef alternative. As for the Pad See Eew itself, the flavors were there and it tasted great. I enjoyed all the perfectly cooked vegetables accompanied with the vegan beef, I felt like I was eating something healthy. Typically asian food isn't unhealthy but this dish in particular, I didn't get the onset of a food coma which I sometimes do after eating a lot of food. So yes their portion sizes are great too, lots of food. I was able to try my girlfriend's vegan chicken curry and I was quite impressed with it too. The flavors were really good and I kinda liked the vegan chicken. It was a little spongey like tofu but tasted great. The curry itself, my girlfriend said it was the best Thai curry she's ever had. She gets curry almost everytime we go out for Thai. In the end, I'm not vegan and I typically always crave some sort of meat to go with every meal. But after eating at Aroy Thai Gardens, I can survive with the impossible (vegan) alternatives. It's worth coming in for the quality of the dishes themselves meat or no meat. read more

There could've maybe been a little bit more seasoning, but I did enjoy them. I do wish there was more of the vegan chicken, though, because there were not many pieces. The Thai tea was standard. In a quieter portion of what can be a busy Main Street, this place is a treasure that we happily drive 30 minutes for! I wish I had documented our first experience, but I'm trying to make up for it now... Everything was not only fresh and beautifully served, but the actual flavor complexity was an immensely pleasant surprise. I opted for 3/5 spice level for the pineapple fried rice, and it had a lovely curry flavor. As you can see the portions were very generous. I will easily have two more meals of the rice. The server was lovely and the restaurant itself is spacious, airy, and has very fun and creative decor, like a huge paper fish. We splurged a bit for a birthday, but really the cost of all of these courses was quite a bargain. Plus, as vegans, we have never found such creative desserts - I have never had whipped cream as good as this! I should have asked how they make it! I'm sure they're just getting their footing, since they just went vegan. They certainly have a ton of options, including gluten-free, and of course everything is already dairy-free. The food got mixed reviews from the 3 of us. I thought their "pork belly" app was pretty amazing. Not greasy, super crispy, and although it didn't really taste like pork belly, I still ate all of it. Not quite as yummy the next day. And oh yes, you'll have plenty of leftovers for the next day. The portions are HUGE! I have no idea how they'll stay in business with such tremendous portions. About a year ago they went vegan with new owners and a new chef. Time to give it a try. I ordered the kimchi fried rice that according to the description had kimchi and Thai basil two powerful flavors. My wife ordered mango curry. So here is the problem. I found no kimchi in my kimchi fried rice and one small sliver of Thai basil. My wife found one small piece of mango-period. None of the food met expectations and the decor is strange. Inside the place is huge with half of it seeming to go to waste. There are chairs everywhere and the really strange giant mannequin. There's nothing at all wrong with vegan. Aroy Thai is a newly opened (2023) vegan restaurant in Middletown. With in a few months the place became super popular among vegans and others. The owner of the place is super friendly and helpful. The employees are super nice too. They have a menu with so many options. Considering it's 100% vegan, it's really appreciable how she comes up such a vast menu. The only negative I have is that it takes a good 20-25 minutes for the food to arrive. We are so spoiled by the restaurants where they just reheat the already cooked food in no time, that this wait is hard sometimes. But other than that the place is amazing. I hope it stays the same. More than anything else I love it when the restaurants owners really care about the customers in answering our questions and are kind enough to provide us suggestions. My daughter and I broke tradition and went out for Christmas dinner this year and took the 1.25 hour ride to Middletown to try Aroy. Being Christmas it was quiet inside- only 1 other family having dinner- but more people showed up later. I had stir fry sweet and sour Tofu. I thought the food was well prepared and tasted good. I had no spice (your server asks from a scale of 0 to 5 how spicy you want your dinner and since I don't like spicy mine had none My daughter ordered a curry with sticky rice I was disappointed because when our food was served the chef gave her steamed rice She requested our server to replace the rice with what she ordered - which unfortunately took almost 10 minutes and her food had cooled during the wait but she still enjoyed it We decided to split a dessert which was a chocolate sauce over crushed cookies Another disappointment as after 30 minutes I stood up and talked to another server and asked if our server forgot our dessert order or maybe the chef did. 5 minutes later our server brought it out- clearly our order had been forgotten as this was a very simple dessert. Overall the food was good- but the service was unfortunately sub-par in a restaurant that was not that busy. True there were only 2 servers and we even saw what appeared to be the chef even bringing food out at times. I forgot to mention our appetizers were good. Spring rolls with a sauce And Tofu "pockets " also with a sauce. I've been following this establishment on Instagram for months. I always had it in mind to visit if I was in the area, fortunately for me today I had to go to Rocky Hill, and I detoured over. So glad I did. I placed my order online. I stuck to my favorites. Drunken noodles. Crab Rangoons and beef satay. The drunken noodles come in different levels of spice. I ordered hot. It did not disappoint, but for me, it was a manageable heat. The crab rangoons were absolutely phenomenal. Much better than traditional non vegan crab rangoons that I've had in the past. I ordered the drunken noodles with crispy pork. Top-tier. Some of the best drunken noodles I've ever had. I typically order mine with tofu when I'm going to a standard restaurant that's not plant-based. But this was so much better. They did not skimp on the noodles which I've noticed other restaurants have done. It was also loaded with vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, onions, and mushroom I believe. Perfectly coated with that signature drunken noodle sauce. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I'm most intrigued by the beef satay. Probably because I get to experience a meat like satay which is not typical due to my plant based lifestyle. Their peanut sauce is amazing. I also received two additional sauces, one similar to Sriracha with a little kick and another, that I believe was for the crab rangoons. If you are a meat eater trying vegan food, or you're on a plant-based diet and you enjoy your meat replacements to have a meaty texture, try the beef satay. Packed with flavor, great texture, and delicious with or without the peanut sauce, but the peanut sauce is very good! Also, the portion size is great. The interior is very nice, several booths and tables. The decor is intriguing and whimsical, but in a good way. I had takeout, so I had to travel back to New Haven with my food. I had to make a couple of quick pitstops along the way. But, once I got in and tasted everything.. it was phenomenal. I can only imagine how great it is fresh from the kitchen while sitting in the restaurant. It's located on Main Street in Middletown, metered parking. I saw a few lots but I'm not sure about pricing. But definitely worth it in my opinion. The next time I crave Thai food, which will be soon I'm sure, I'm taking the drive to Middletown. This is my new go to, and it's worth the commute. read more

Maybe just a fluke! We ordered pad see ew, pad Thai, general tso's "chicken," spring rolls, and dessert. Everything on the menu is vegan, and there's tons of things that can be made gluten free! I loved the pad Thai, it had great flavors. The general tso's chicken was also a hit and everyone always loves spring rolls. The banana cookie dessert was not only vegan, but also gluten free! I decided to add this restaurant to Yelp. It is at the previous location of Thai Gardens. However, this restaurant is fully vegan. Hoping everyone puts their reviews here instead of the restaurant that doesn't exist anymore. I decided to try this out with a friend. We are both vegetarian. The menu is very large and you use a QR code to find the menu. It was difficult to decide what to eat since the menu is so large. I was very interested in having the wonton soup. I haven't had it in years I was looking forward to it. I had a side order as an appetizer. it was very delicious and a very good soup however, it does not taste like what you would expect wonton soup to be. My friend had the vegan crab Rangoons. She enjoyed it. She ordered the pumpkin curry with fried tofu and I had the eggplant, basil with fried tofu. They have a heat scale. I tend to like a milder heat and not eating there before I got a one. The one had flavor but really no heat at all. She got hers between a three and a four. She would get a four next time however, I thought it was pretty spicy. I definitely would be interested in going back again and trying some other items on their large menu. At the table they did have a small menu for lunch. Each item was $10 and it came with the entrée and two spring rolls. I think this is a great place for vegan or vegetarians and especially people who are allergic to seafood because it is difficult to make sure you're not getting seafood at a Thai restaurant. I'm a huge fan of Thai food - it's one of my favorite cuisines - but when I went vegan it became a lot more difficult to order my favorite foods. I think this was my favorite dish and I'll definitely be ordering this every time I visit! We also got the crispy pork belly appetizer. I only got this because everyone was raving about how good it was, but I honestly didn't think I'd like it much because I never liked meat, even before going vegan. It turned out to be delicious! Somehow both super crispy and soft and chewy at the same time. It was a huge serving too! We also ordered the roti because it was my all time favorite before going vegan. Tasting it brought back so many good memories! It was chewy and flaky and came with a delicious curry dipping sauce. This will be a regular order for sure! Now on to the main course! I ordered the pad Thai because I can never get that vegan anywhere, and my husband ordered the pineapple fried rice, which is his favorite Thai dish. Both dishes were huge and gave us enough food for at least one other meal! My pad Thai came with tons of marinated fried tofu because I'm obsessed with tofu, but there's a huge selection of vegan meats to choose from like chicken, shrimp, duck, and beef (there are even more than that, this is just what I remember off the top of my head). My husband gets pineapple fried rice wherever we order Thai and he said that this was one of the best he's had. Finally, for dessert, I got the mango sticky rice. The mangos came super thinly sliced and beautifully arranged in a small rosette. I'd never had it prepared this way before and it was delicious! I wish I'd taken photos of everything, but it was dark out by the time we got to the area. Next time I'll take some and add them here! I have to be honest. I visit this restaurant with high hopes. I've been to a vegan Thai in NYC (spice moon, soo good). 1 the menu at this place is too much like 6 pages and confusing. I ordered the basil stir fry with fake pork. And for appetizer we ordered the fried mushrooms and fried wontons. My first gripe is the salt content was way too much in the entree. The veggies did not seem fresh and it was not good! The appetizers seemed premade and refried and were hella greasy. I barely ate my food and was sick with upset stomach and diarrhea. Sorry (tmi) but yes. The atmosphere was not real nice. They should take the glass off the table and clean underneath and the floor under our table was dirty. The waitress was nice and helped us order. I won't return. It was not good and I'm being nice in this review. You should never get sick after eating out! read more
