House Salad

Via Doordash, very happy with the freshness of the ingredients. I got the house salad and added chicken, which came in a tan sauce. I liked the small fried rolls that came sliced in it. Definitely will order again!

Iced Green Tea with Boba and Freshly Squeezed Lime Thai Ice Tea

One our favorite places!! We love Thai food and we think this is the best!! Uma, the owner is amazing!! We have been coming here since it opened! We started with Fresh Roll, always a refreshing start, very fresh and Brit flavors with the mint and shrimp!! Also got a Freshly Squeezed Lime Thai Iced Tea and a Thai Green Tea with Boba. We've tried many dishes here and tonight I actually tried something new to me, (I usually get Pad Thai or Crispy Chicken and I love them both!!), but, I decided on GOLDEN SPICY CRISPY WHITING FISH with a sweet chili sauce, I liked it, although I didn't expect bones (easy fix, they come out easily) a little spicy with green and red bell peppers and cashew nuts. My husband got one of his favorites, Green Curry with Duck. A beautiful dish, eggplant, green beans, red bell pepper, basil, bamboo shoots. Delicious!! So we left room for dessert.... Lol... I tried one of Uma's creations a Vanilla Crepe cake with strawberries and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Omg!! It was amazing and the hubby had Coconut Ice Creamwith Sweet Sticky Rice. He really enjoyed it! If you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for?! You will love it like we do!!

Fresh Roll...

My youngest son recommended this fine establishment, but he did warn me about the lack of parking spaces. Nevertheless, I ordered the large spicy red snapper. The snapper is fried whole and literally drenched in spicy sauce, which was a major drawback for this meal. Overall, my experience was enjoyable and the owner was very friendly. I plan on returning, and will have the snapper again minus the spicy sauce!!!

Order takeout - generous portion ready quicker than estimated. The more fairly priced Thai restaurant of the two in town. Very friendly owner and staff! We ordered the rangoons, Pad Thai, and Drunken Noodles (see pics)

Summer rolls perfectly packaged

I used to come here all the time a few years ago when I worked here for the summer and it's still the same great quality and service! I was craving some Laotian style papaya salad and opted to get that and some summer rolls. The summer rolls were so fresh and the dipping sauce was so delicious that I ate it afterwards by the spoonful. The Laotian style papaya salad is a lot fishier than Thai style and had tons of fermented crab and fish sauce. I ordered medium spicy and it was still spicy but I finished all of it! Will definitely try the drunken noodles next time.

Lad Na base (with pork)

Accidentally ordered from this place again. Pad thai was slightly better. Still lacking lime flavor and not enough fish sauce but otherwise decent. Crab rangoons were exactly the same. My fiancé got the basil fried rice this time and he said it was really spicy, and he can usually tolerate a decent amount of spice. He wishes they had put spicy on the menu because he could barely taste any flavors.

Spicy Mango Salmon

Decent Thai restaurant but some dishes are a hit or miss. The shrimp in a blanket and spicy mango salmon are delicious. An order of shrimp in a blanket comes with 5 shrimps and a big container of sweet and sour dip. The spicy mango salmon was very flavorful and the salmon was fried to a nice crisp on the outside. The spice level is relatively mild. Delicious dish enough for two if you get extra rice. My veggie pad kee mao (or drunken noodles) was a bit bland and dry. A bit of a disappointment. The crepe cake was a larger disappointment since it tasted old. The crepe layers were a bit on the thick side and not delicate like others I had. The cream seemed old and dry. Stick to the curries if you want to play it safe.

Crab Rangoon with sweet sauce

I saw a comment today that said "Simple is Smart". So, simple is what I went for with my Monday movements. I ordered a simple: Thai Rice Chicken Soup and an order of Crisp Crab Rangoon. The soup was exactly how it sounds. About a 1/3 cup of white Jasmine rice in a ToGo bowl of clear broth, very few pieces of white meat chicken, scallions floating on top and 6 small Rangoon bites with sweet sauce on the side. Nothing complicated. A simply satisfying warm, low mess meal for a 38 degree day. The staff were very complimentary, the corner spot that the restaurant occupies deserves more visitors & more sunshine. PROS: Quickly & Friendly Serve CON: Very limited metered parking

Mae Kong is my kind of place: casual, affordable and not more than a 15 minute drive from our residence. On entering you will likely, as we were, be greeted by owner Oumaphone Siboriboun who opened the restaurant 8 years ago. The restaurant is family friendly with 1 table this Thursday evening occupied by her 2 children, another by a couple with a 16 month old toddler and a 3rd by a couple hosting their tween. A pair of frugal seniors possessing an expiring Groupon occupied table #4. We, the frugal seniors, took advantage of the BYOB policy by having a pair of New Belgium Fat Tire beers accompany us. This being our fourth visit, we decided to order something new as well as something previously enjoyed. We started off sharing the Golden Veggie appetizer, lightly (very lightly) battered and deep fried onion, green beans, mushroom, carrot, broccoli and eggplant that proved to be a flavor delight. Entree #1 was pad kee mao (a.k.a. drunken noodles) with shrimp, wok-tossed flat rice noodles with Thai hot chili, eggs, onions, bell peppers, broccoli and sweet basil leaves. The 2nd entree was Pad Prik Khing - stir-fried fresh string beans, bell peppers and kaffir lime leaves in spicy red curry paste. The vegetables in each dish were impeccably fresh, but we felt the noodles in the pad kee mao were a bit too thick while the quantity of protein in each dish to be on the light side. Overall it was an enjoyable dining experience so stay tuned for visit #5.

Delicious!! Came here because we had a Groupon, DEFINITELY coming back. My husband got crispy chicken which was spicier than he expected but the texture was awesome (like a tempura). I got drunken noodles also delish. Worth mentioning the portions are huge for entrees. The apps are normal sized. Also we wish we knew it was BYOB! They have glasses for wine ;)

This is my all time favorite Thai restaurant! Have been going here for more than a year, and every experience has always been amazing! The food is delicious and always fresh. Pad thai is always a must, but the drunken noodles are really good as well! The panang curry is the best I have ever had! All the appetizers are so good too, you cannot go wrong with any of them They also just started making crepe cakes, for a really good price! $5 a slice, or you can even order a whole cake! I tried the green tea and it was so yummy I couldn't wait to eat it The owner and staff are so friendly and welcoming, excellent service!

Decided on Thai for a valentines dinner and Mae Kong delivered a fantastic meal. The fresh rolls were very tasty and the dipping sauce was great. We ordered green curry duck and yellow curry duck. I asked for medium spice and it was just right. The curry itself was bursting with flavor and I just about ate my whole portion which is quite large. Great little spot for Thai I will definitely explore the menu some more.

Summer Rolls

I thought I was going to have an amazing meal, but this may be the first time I willingly didn't finish my main entree at a Thai restaurant. I was seated quickly, but that was the fastest thing they did my entire stay. I easily sat there with my menu ready to order for a solid 20 minutes. Nobody checked on us or even looked at my table, almost like I was invisible. Finally the owner who was very nice took our order. She was really nice and I would have loved to give her restaurant a great review but my experience was full of issues. For appetizers my party got Shrimp Summer Rolls, Laab Moo Tod (deep fried pork ball cooked in lime dressing, onion, cilantro, scallion and ground toasted rice), and Shrimp in a Blanket. The appetizers were the best part of my meal EASILY. They were great. The Laab Moo Tod was tasty, looked dry but no it was actually nice and juicy, and was something like I've never had before. It was great and Summer Rolls and Shrimp in a Blanket never disappoint so those were good as well. Another long while later, my entree finally arrived. I decided to try the Beef Mae Kong Noodle which is stir fried flat rice noodles with lettuce, scallion, cilantro and crispy noodles in an in-house sauce. It costs a dollar more than Pad See Eew so I was hoping it was special. But I realize this "in-house sauce" is bland and salty. In other words, I think their special sauce is just soy sauce and they add even more salt. Just an assumption as it was really salty and the crispy noodles didn't make the situation any better. It was just really salty and somewhat tasteless as I felt like I was eating straight salt and carbs. I tried eating a lot of the lettuce to save the meal but in my opinion the fresh lettuce is just so out of place. I tried someone else's Pad See Eew and it wasn't anywhere near as good as anywhere I've ever got it from. You can trust me on that one as every single Thai place I've been to for the first time I always order either Pad See Eew or Drunken Noodles for my first impression. I also learned how to cook Pad See Eew at home and I would have to say it was a little better than this one. The one here was just a little bland! I don't know, maybe since it was kinda 45 min. before closing the chef was giving up or something, over salted and under seasoned, everything entree wise was just off. If I was blind folded and ate Pad See Eew I should be able to tell it's Pad See Eew by the flavor of the sauce and because it's my favorite meal of all time but if I used this place's Pad See Eew then I'd honestly know it's flat rice noodles but I wouldn't be sure what exact meal it is. Yes it was really that bland. I hate to be harsh but when a place screws up your favorite meal and takes FOREVER I can't do anything but give them 2-Stars. The owner was so nice though, I wanna come back because I know they're good but I feel like they had an off night. One more note, everyone else at my table ordered things they normally like but 2 out of 6 people finished and liked their meals. But 6 out of 6 burned the roof of their mouths. The food was deadly hot when it arrived, obviously the solution is to just wait but Jesus if it's that hot at least say something. Well I didn't have the best experience at Mae Kong last night but I remember coming here years back and having an amazing one. Not done, just disappointed.

I forget which.) Being CCSU s spring break, there wasn't much going on. That is, we saw a few pickups and DoorDash orders, but we had the full restaurant to ourselves. The waitress was quick, but the to-go orders left us waiting (totally normal, not a complaint.) First, the good: the ramen is a sizable portion. You can tell it's all made from scratch. It's not the saltiest thing you'll ever eat. The spicy is actually spicy, if you mix in all the chili paste they leave resting on the fish cake. I grabbed my chopsticks and dug in, and I was glad I got the $3.50 milk tea on the side (you get it for cheap with a bowl), though I found it very sweet. The pork in my ramen was crispy on the sliver of crust, and the rest was cooked to perfection. Many other places can do it like that, but if they'd messed that up, they'd lose some points. The bad is a very short list. Our ramen had vermicelli or angel hair instead of, you know, ramen noodles. Maybe that's their thing? All in all, a soup place next to the up-the-hill dorms is just what I needed decades ago. I'm rarely up that way these days, but I'd totally stop here even in the summer.

Driving into the plaza...the sidewalk is a bit lifted from the road, so expect it to be a bit bumpy coming in and out of the lot. Walking inside it was a cutely decorated shop with Anime themed wall art. There was a good amount of seating in this small shop as well. We sat down and ordered the iron man roll, so ramen roll, house ramen and Shabu Shabu beef ramen. It took about 20-39 mins for the food to come out but I believe there is just one cook working. The rolls were delicious and I really like their So Ramen roll. It was creamy and crunchy. My house ramen was also really good and I enjoyed it. My fiancé thought his ramen was a bit bland. But that might just be his opinion on ramen overall. Each item runs about $14 to $20 each. So a meal for 2 can run you about at minimum $40. Overall we enjoyed our time here and would come back.

It came with minced pork and delicious wide hand pulled noodles. The sauce was a perfect amount of flavor with some spice. The cold noodles were not my favorite noodle. They tasted a bit more jelly like. It came with tofu which surprisingly was the best tofu I have had. It came with sliced cucumber which was refreshing. The pork noodle was definitely a must. Outside is very much a busy shopping plaza in not the best part of town. Inside is a completely different story. Very clean and spacious, lots of booths and tables. Decorated well and a lot to see. The staff were friendly but there was a slight language barrier. We fumbled through the menu and found some bites to try. Food came out relatively quick, and that was a bit to manage because there were a lot of plates brought rather quickly. We got pics and dug in. The bites were flavored well. Nothing felt too greasy or under seasoned. The white pepper chicken was very crispy. But not a lot of chicken on each bite. The sweet and sour soup was both sweet and sour, but balanced enough that you could keep on eating it. The dumplings were fresh noodles and the filling was spiced well. The only flop was the spare ribs. Really tasty sauce, but very little meat on the bone. Had to suck on the bones to scrape enough meat off to make it a proper appetizer. It tasted good, just was not easy to eat. Price for the area was high for the neighborhood. It's got the quality and the flavor to command that price easily, but it doesn't match the stores. It's really good, but know that you're getting the real deal sichuan experience. Expect some heat, some saucy fingers, and some bones, and you'll get some really good bites
