Lets start with the food quality - it's really good and I'm not a big Thai fan. Especially the watery curries. Uncle Jacks is no different, but it is tasty. Their Cashew Chicken is my favorite. They get the heat the way you want it. Even though you can order through some electronic app, I suggest calling in and just giving them your order. If they don't answer, they're closed or so busy, you'll be waiting for ever. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plainville is a pretty boring place to be waiting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is an itch, but there's a parking to the left of the restaurant as you're looking at it about 200 feet away. I think its for the apartments, but you won't be there long enough to draw attention. The owners are really wonderful people. Have been a few times for both dine in and take out. Solid Thai restaurant. The people who work here are always super friendly. Have tried a number of dishes and all delicious. Recently had book club there and I was the only one who had eaten there before. Everyone really enjoyed their food. We started with spring rolls, curry puffs and chicken satay - all were tasty but the curry puffs stood out. For dinner, I had the massaman curry with chicken. It was good but I prefer the green or Panang curry. 2 people got pineapple fried rice and thought it was fantastic. There were a few other entrees ordered but can't remember what they were. I've had their ginger and garlic entrees with beef and chicken. Both fantastic. Also their pad Thai - good, standard, always yummy. Love having a delicious Thai restaurant close to home. read more

Parking is tight, but worth finding a spot. It is byob so I would recommend making a stop at LEFTY's when if you are coming from the 84 exit. The place is small, but clean and the food is good. We have dined in only twice and usually do take out. Orders are always correct and ready when we arrive. The quality of the food is good and the spring rolls can be eaten by the dozen. You can always order in person and run across the street to Hop House and enjoy a great selection of beers while you wait. read more

Recently moved from Phoenix and was craving some Thai. I searched through Yelp and found a local spot with good reviews/ratings! Ordered on uber eats and eagerly awaited. To be honest I wasn't impressed, and slightly disappointed. The panang curry wasn't thick, salty or sweet but very watery and bland. Same to be said about the pad Thai, just very bland. Has very high expectations given all the 5 star ratings. It was just ok. I ordered the same dishes I get when I try every new (to me) Thai restaurant, pad Thai and Panang curry. Both dishes tasted good but neither was authentic Thai. I also ordered fried tofu appetizer. It was perfectly prepared and had a unique sweet & sour/peanut dipping sauce. I also typically get Tom kha soup but at $6.99 it's way too expensive. To be fair, I don't know what size container that's for so you may want to inquire. They have a dessert specials board (see picture) and also have bubble tea. I'm not sure what's happening in the world of Thai food but it seems that all Thai restaurants I have been to lately have changed from being authentic to catering to local American tastes. Not sure where to park when picking up and that really just leaves me clueless on where to park if I was dining-in but during COVID-19 it really doesn't matter at this point! Hahaha. Placed an easy online order for pick up via GrubHub. It was very fast and my order was waiting for me inside, socially distanced from the other orders. I loved it. Had a shrimp shumai to start off, one of the better and more meatier ones I've had from this area. Very good and a good price as well. Went for my usual which is sharing a Beef Pad See Eew and a Beef Drunken Noodle. Everything was great, felt like their style is on the lighter side rather than the heavier and savory style. I felt good after eating this instead of ready to fall aslesp. If you eat enough flat rice noodles from Thai restaurants you start to notice the differences as in depth as this haha. So yes, this is the light and juicy type if you know what I mean. Everything was really great overall, it's really hard to have a bad experience with Thai food. They seemed very busy with take-out orders and they even offered gloves and sanitizer at the door. The lady at the front was very nice as well! I guess if you were just walking on the Southington Trail then you could walk right in easily but like I said I am not sure where someone would park for this place. In the end, I got my food and was super happy in the end. Decided to eat it while parked at the trail, not a bad idea at all. We have only had take out so far, but Uncle Jacks really took us by surprise when I ordered level 4 spicy, and it was actually really spicy (Most places are afraid to get too spicy these days). Their spice ratings are accurate. We ordered crab Rangoons which were crunchy and hot, green curry beef, and drunken noodles which I couldn't stop eating. The portions are good, the food is fresh, and they offer delivery in Southington. I originally would have given 4 stars due to the clunky website ordering with bad captchas, but I haven't had any issues recently, thankfully, because I am really happy to have found some great Thai food in my neighborhood. read more

What's in a name? That is a question you might have or did have ... once you learn of or visit Uncle Jacks Thai Restaurant. It is a question I may answer at the end of this review, but what we really want to know is this, why this place vs the others? I am glad you asked! The food is great. The portions are generous, and the flavor is on point. I wanted the Yum Woon Sen but it was not available this night, not sure why, I did not ask so I went with the Panang Curry with a level 3 spiciness (I'm guessing thats on a scale of 5... again, I did not ask). It was very good. Served with a good portion of rice, it was flavorful, spicy and packed with vegetables and shrimp. I just love the coconut flavor from this curry! We also had the pork dumplings. Came in a serving of 5 with a side of yummy sweet, yet savory Thai dumpling sauce. The marinated pork in the dumplings were very tasting and I liked that they were served in this open little pouch dumpling vs a closed dumpling and which held onto the dumpling sauce much better than the traditional wrapped dumpling. My colleague had the Thai Fried Rice and it was a very generous portion of which I will be trying myself in the future. Overall, a great experience and tasty, authentic, Thai food. I am not sure why it is called Uncle Jacks and the next time I visit I aim to find out and I can only hope the story is as good as the food. read more

A pair of old codgers were recently witnessed weaving their way up and down W Main Street on a Thursday evening. Their first stop was Zingarella's for happy hour libations followed by dinner at this recently opened Thai restaurant. On entering, one of the co-owners expressed warm greetings and directed them to a table set for 2. They found the interior much more inviting than when it was most recently a Vietnamese restaurant. The male codger had brought 2 chilled bottles of Blue Moon Belgian White from home, but in a display of ineptitude, or was it inebriation, could not manage to pop their tops with the opener provided so the bottles were temporarily taken to the kitchen for cropping. The menu is pretty much standard Thai fare so a decision was made to share a pair of favorites, eggplant basil with shrimp and drunken noodle with chicken. Each proved to be well executed. Prices are reasonable, the food is good, and this family-owned business could use your support so what are your plans for dinner tonight? read more

This is literally a Mom & Pop establishment. There's just the two of them doing everything. He cooks and she does everything else. So, if you want fast service and to have your meal come out quickly, this is not the place to go. If you want the absolute best food made with Love and can deal with the slow but accurate service. (She never gets things wrong.) This is definitely the place to go. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very small dining room only half a dozen tables. So most of the business is take out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had my Drunken Noodles again and normally I'll ask level 3 of 5 and ask them to bring extra chili sauce. But here level 3 is perfect. Plenty of spice but not overpowering like many others. It enjoyed every bite and only liquid was left on the plate. The Crab Rangoon, Shrimp Rolls and Tom Kha soup were all great as well. My buddy had Basil Duck and he barely said anything while we were eating and his wife had her usual Pineapple Fried Rice which she devoured as well. Also keep in mind that parking in the downtown Plantsville area is not great. You will have to walk a bit. I say do take out if you don't want to wait but call it in early as it will take a while. This is an interesting little place... parking is only at nearby public lots. Prices were reasonable and stsff nice enough. I found the food to be just ok. I really usually like tom yum soup.. but this place's version is a rather large bowl with lots of these strange white whole mushrooms and cherry tomatoes floating in it. The pad see ew sauce was bland but acceptable. Maybe I will try when I'm in town again. read more

Extremely friendly and safe to eat inside during covid. They only allow like 4 people inside so I suggest you call ahead. They put a bottle of hand sanitizer on your table and ask you to use it when you enter and when you come back from restroom. They are super clean. The green curry was a large portion and it was spicy, fresh and very good. The Tom yum soup was also huge, had mushrooms and onions in the soup as well. The drunken noodles were tasty, noodles were cooked right and it tasted fresh, chicken was good. I'm not a huge rice person and their fried rice was really good, you can tell it was made fresh and not like that dark brown fried rice with all the soy sauce and such in it. "Fresh Thai Flavors" We were on our way to another Thai restaurant in Southington when we passed by Uncle Jack's. What's this place? We turned around and had dinner at Uncle Jack's. We were all happy that we did. Jack and his wife are very nice people. We began with thai ice teas. Very good ice teas with strong flavor of tea. My wife and our friend ordered the curry puffs appetizer. Chicken, curry powder, onion, and potato. Wow, they were good. Curry chicken packed high in light crispy puffs. Delicious ! I had the Shrimp Tom Yum soup. Thai style extra spicy. Shrimp, chilis, galangal, lemongrass, lime juice, onion, and mushrooms. Great flavor, heat, and plenty of shrimp. Our friend had the Tom Kha soup with chicken. Coconut milk, galangal, lime juice, onion, and mushrooms. My wife had the Pineapple Curry with chicken for dinner. Bell pepper, basil, tomato, pineapple, curry sauce, coconut milk, and chicken. She had the tastiest dish of all. Very good. Our friend had the Pad Thai with chicken. Eggs, peanuts, scallion, sprouts, and tofu. I had the Drunken Noodles with beef. Basil, bell pepper, egg, garlic, long hot, onion, bamboo shoot, mushroom, and tomato. Uncle Jack's wife brought over a bottle of their homemade thai chili sauce to crank up the heat. That thai sauce was so delicious, I would put it on everything. Jack is very accomodating with his dishes. He'll add or omit ingredients to your liking. Spicy or not spicy. Whatever you like, Jack is there to please. As full as we were, we still wanted to taste the desserts. My wife had the sticky rice custard. She loved it. My favorite fruit is the mango. So I couldn't resist the mango sticky rice. Mango was sweet, ripe, and as orange as a summer sunset. Excellent dessert. There's no need to try other Thai restaurants in Southington. First time here, breathe of fresh air. Uncle Jacks as humble as can be, came over to personalize how spicy we wanted our dishes. Our lunch started with two tasty apps fish cakes, chicken/shrimp dumplings, main course included Whole Bass seasoned to perfection tender and juicy on the inside crunchy on the outside with delicious veggies. Our other dish, Green Curry Salmon with 4 out of 5 heat that was masterfully crafted with layers of heat that slowly built up to a powerful crescendo. We've introduced so many people to Thai food through Uncle Jack's and love that it's a stone's throw away. This spot has gone through many businesses over the years and it is nice to have a proprietor who has had staying power, even through the pandemic, which is a testament to their hard work. It is byob, and would recommend the boba tea (any flavor). Parking can sometimes be a challenge but that's a downtown issue not the business'.
