We tried this place yesterday for lunch and it was very good. We tried the thupka, beef momo and lunch platter of spicy beef, rice, pickled veggies, cinnamon rice pudding, delicious potatoes and a yummy soup. Everything on that platter was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The beef momo was definitely the highlight of our meal and the spicy sauce our server brought out gave the momo a perfect finish. Dining here was my first experience trying Tibetan food, so I had no clue what to expect. The restaurant itself is small but has plenty of seating, the atmosphere is cozy, and the service is welcoming. I got the mango lassi and lhasa thukpa with beef. The wrappers were a tad thicker than I've had elsewhere but each momo was beautifully wrapped. Splitting an order of these for 2 was quite filling. Spicy tofu khatsa--appreciated the firm tofu chunks and the chili-like sauce it was sautéed with. The heat was mild despite the way it looks. Shogo sip sip--these were boiled and sliced into the thickness of a fry. These were softer than other shredded potato appetizers I've had. We had a nice meal here after dropping supplies off with a friend of our son's, on our way to New Hampshire and Maine. Service was pleasant, although we had rather expected our momo to come before the entrees rather than afterward. I had the shredded beef with chilis, which was quite spicy (pleasantly so). Nancy had the phing sha, a flavorful, soupy concoction with potatoes, vermicelli and mushrooms. She is not a fan of spicy food but she was HUNGRY and I was glad to see her eat it all even though it was mildly spicy. The mango lassi was delicious and delightfully not sweet. Delicious food, the lasooni govi was sooooo good!! Cauliflower was cooked perfectly! And the garlic tomato sauce was amazing. Service was quick, food was served hot as well. Went on a Thursday evening, not super busy. I also personally loved the menu, it's simple and straightforward which is a bonus to someone as indecisive as me. Our grazing the restaurants on Main Street in Middletown continued with Potala Tibetan restaurant. Located on the northern end of main this 6 table establishment is quite quaint. This was our first time eating Tibetan food so we had no reference and nothing to compare to. We got two different beef dishes, one with mushrooms and Thai chilies over rice. The other with colorful bell peppers over a thick pasta noodle. Unless you bit into the Thai chili (which I did several times), the flavors on both dishes were subtle but flavorful. This is a mom and pop place, mom the entire front of house, dad in the back. We were there at six on a Thursday and we were the only ones. It's a shame as it's too good not to be enjoyed by more people. The prices are reasonable and the portions are a decent size. As to the question I ask every time-will we go back-the answer is yes. I want to try more of the dishes and experience more of this food. Other reviewers mentioned tasty curries, there were none on the menu but there were on a specials board. This restaurant needs some more love! I had an amazing experience but I was shocked to see that we were the only guests during our time dining on a Friday night. The noodles in both entrees we got tasted so fresh and the soup was so warm and heart. The potato appetizer was such a fresh dish with the perfect level of spice. The highlight of my visit was when we ordered a Butter Tea and a Chai Tea, and the owner walked down the street to get some milk for us instead of just telling us they were out of milk. The teas were both amazing and perfect for a cold rainy day. The ambiance is super cozy and well decorated. I highly recommend! read more

Enjoyed dinner at Potala last night. This is a cozy (read small) mom & pop restaurant with delicious complex flavors. I couldn't wait to try the food as the aromas coming from the kitchen were amazing. It is listed as an Asian fusion restaurant. They have spring rolls, curries, what looked like hand cut noodles in my soup (D4 Lhasa Thukpa) and mung bean vermicelli in my husband's soup (D7 Phing-Sha). Both soups were delicious. Our kids had the momo (dumplings) & fried rice. Also good. Everything was prepared fresh and very hot as it came to the table. Very reasonably priced & worth a try. read more

My first try of Tibetan food. As other reviewers have noted, the restaurant is small but nicely decorated. I ordered the Spicy Tofu Khatsa, which lived up to its name. It reminded me of Mopo Tofu. The mango lassi was tasty and a good antidote to the heat of the meal. Sadly, I was the only diner. This place should be packed! On my way back home from NY, I made a dinner stop at Potala Tibetan Restaurant in Downtown Middletown for dinner on a very rainy night. The place is under new ownership and was formerly Tibetan Kitchen. The place was not very busy with a another couple having dinner here. I took a seat in the cozy dining room and given a menu which had pictures of the dishes being served here, which is helpful. I was given a glass of water and I ordered the Lhasa Thukpa soup ($13.99 plus tax) and an order of beef Momos ($14.99 plus tax). While I was waiting for my food, native background music started blaring over the speakers in the dining room. Also, emergency red and blue lights began flashing into the restaurant from police, fire, and ambulance because there was a 2 car accident, (one car t-boned another car) that just occurred after I was seated. The big bowl of soup arrived first, which had plenty of thick noodles (like fettuccine), tender beer flank pieces, green vegetables, in a hearty broth, not salty. I put some dry chili paste into the soup for a good spicy kick. The momos arrived 10 minutes later, 8 hot and steamed momo/dumplings filled with beef served with pickled radish. It is noted that the picture menu had 10 momos. The momos were good and firm and great for dipping in the chili sauce provided.  I finished the bowl of soup which was very filling, and took some momos home to eat for lunch the next day. The check was $31.11 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food I had was very good and the service was pretty laid back. This is a great place to check out if you're feeling like trying Tibetan food. read more

Fabulous Vegan food! 1 menu choice per day, you choose whether you want medium (moderate) of large (full) yummy homemade pie slices in various flavors quick service and the people working there are wonderful/nice! Meals have a little salad, a root vegetable, greens and brown rice and either lentils or beans & a cup of soup - the chef cooks up something different each day with slight variations. This was such a gem! Our food was amazing. I had beef dumplings in a really rough broth with green vegetables. It was amazing like wonton soup but sooooo next level. I also had one of these potato dishes with cubed potatoes. I asked for it spicy and it was perfection. I had the perfect buzz. My dining companion couldn't stop stealing them from my plate. Went to Patola last night, especially happy that a Tibetan place took over a Tibetan place. In this area, very limited exposure to Tibetan food so glad it's here. The menu is full of variety of items - noodle dish , rice dishes , vegetable dishes. And of course there are mommo's. Prices are comparable to different Asian food. We had the vegetable mommo and shogo katsa. Both dishes had distinct flavors that engaged the palette. Great dining experience.
