This spot is so underrated! We found this "basement" bar hiding on Main Street and the ambiance is very lowkey and nice. We came for a drink and watched basketball once and then ended up celebrating new year's eve here. The staff is super friendly, drinks are good, and the food was pretty good as well! They have a long bar and a bunch of tables, and they actually have the best music playlist!!

It is such a nice place in the basement like a speakeasy all of the wait staff takes care of you so you're never without a drink or food whatever you are looking for Drinks are always good and the food we were there yesterday and Monday night they had chicken gumbo soup, which was amazing. Had to take some home because the real reason I was there was there Monday night, special fish, and chips, which was amazing if you like fish and chips hit this is the spot Monday night special And what's nice as there are a couple of TVs, but it is not a sports bar so you might catch a game, but it is also a good night out or good lunch as well

Where is the 10 stars button at? A new dinner spot find unlocked. What a marvelous place. Very deceiving rustic decorated basement restaurant to find a very delicious meal with very friendly staff. We loved the idea of everyone getting involved. I asked for the name of our waitress and this guy said "who? We all are your waitress and waiters " we were very surprised and delighted because everyone was as nice and involved as the original girl who first saw us. A shout out to Soucy, Tina, Alix Judith Jake and Sarah. The food was delicious, my daughter expressed how fancy the food looked and how good it tasted. We tried almost everything, from delicious steak and cheese bites to a fresh brewed coffee and everything was outstanding. My husband was thrilled to finally find a place that can make blackened steak ( not cajun) Guess what? We will see you very soon.

I am very happy to find this hidden gem just off of Main Street in Middletown! I have been working late and was looking for a local spot the serves quality food late night. And the locals turned me onto Celtic Cavern. Their kitchen is open one hour before close. This makes me very happy! My first trip was fantastic and just may have turned me into a regular. Some fantastic mocktails to start. And a very diverse menu that really impressed the heck out of me. - We're a gastropub specializing in seasonal American fare (not Irish fare, as our name might imply.) **

The food is awesome and i love the atmosphere. The service is great and I think it's cool how the restaurant is underground.

Kinda wanted to sit outside but I guess it's not really spring yet. I had been waiting at the bar and I was fine with it. My date showed up and it was a nice time. Watched a little sports and had a few apps. I did not mind those happy hour prices. The service was professional and swift. I'd come back to Nosh on something else. Thnx for the vegan options.

I came here after work to meet a friend. When I arrived, it was empty. They only see you if your whole party is in attendance. I sat at the bar to get a drink before she arrive. They just changed their menu for the fall. I did like the potato pancakes. They had good flavor however they are very thin and crispy. I've never had them that way. My friend enjoyed her grilled cheese and fries. I did have a taste however one of the cheeses was smoky and I dislike smoky cheese. But overall, it had very good bread and cheese. I was excited about the mushroom risotto. The risotto itself was separate from the mushrooms. They did not cook the mushrooms and rice together in a broth. It was plain risotto and then sautéed mushrooms in Marcella sauce on top. There was a lot of mushrooms and I could not eat it all. Overall, it had good flavor however I wouldn't order it again. I would prefer to have it cooked together. I would go to this restaurant again. It is in the basement and dark bar like. All of the staff was very attentive And helpful.

First time. Lots of craft beer choices.

CC had been on my radar ever since some of my Yelp friends raved about it. Of the five, three rated it 5 stars, the other two four stars. First of all, parking across the street in a muni lot. Entrance leads to a staircase down one flight to the cavern, BUT... there is elevator access, per Mgr. Brian. Just need to ask when you're downstairs. Inviting atmosphere, with music that doesn't overwhelm. Huge selection of craft beers. Jenny offered a sample, and I went w Elm City Pilsner. For lunch, I had to choose the Bacon Burger. Fries are standard, any substitutions come w any upcharge. The burger came out perfectly cooked, with crumbled bacon pieces, mushrooms, and gouda cheese on a brioche bun. Nice charbroiled taste as well. The combination was a home run, the flavors blending together well. A couple of reasons why it didn't rate as a 5-star burger / experience for me. First, the burger was a pre-made patty, not hand formed. That, combined with the $18 price tag, which I thought was a bit steep. So, I am definitely a fan but, for me, it's not as good as it gets. BTW, service was excellent. 4 stars

I was taken here by a co-worker when we were working one evening and enjoyed it so much I brought my husband and son months later. I knew it was a place they would enjoy. It's downstairs hence the cavern name, it's under the indoor shopping market in Middletown. It's not a large place, has a big bar with quite a large array of beers to choose. It gets packed so plan ahead to find parking and put your name down. We had to do a few rounds in the paid parking area before we found a spot on a Saturday night. Then they said it would be 45mins for a table so we decided to walk around the indoor market. Most of the stores were closed except a craft store. Turned out not to be a 45min wait but more like 20 so that was great since my son decided he was all of a sudden starving! Even though it was packed the waitstaff were friendly, patient, and helpful. My husband ordered their pork chop, which they let you know it will take a while since it's so large. We got the burrata app special and it was fantastic! Creamy, the sauce was flavorful, and a good enough size for the three of us to share. I ordered a salad with steak AND shrimp on top b/c it was our anniversary so I was goin big! My son ordered the cheeseburger and fries but removed basically everything. He thought it was great! My salad was good but it came with an apple cider vinegar dressing that was a little overpowering and I didn't really care for. I accidentally ordered the wrong salad, I had wanted the Cobb. The steak and shrimp were cooked perfectly though so that helped. My husband loved the place, my son had a great time, and we will be back I'm sure!

Carnitas press over a bed of lettuce

We had a very nice experience here Saturday night. We love Gastropubs as they typically have good food that's a bit different. First of all they serve food until 11:00 which is really nice as we didn't get there until after 10:00 from a party with not much food left by the time we got there (or food I could eat as I need gluten free). The menu had lots of yummy things and I could have ordered three different things. We both decided on the Carnitas Press. The multitude of waitresses coming over was unreal as they all work together they all said (service was incredible). One of them told me I could easily get the Carnitas Press over a bed of lettuce instead of the flour tortilla so I decided on that without onions as well. It was extremely delicious and the Cajun fries were insanely tasty. One critique is they were a bit soggy. I like my fries a little more crispy but the flavor and the two different dipping sauces were awesome. Ketchup and an aioli. My boyfriend loved the wrap as well. I would definitely come back here to eat. Very nice. Ambiance casual but nice.

    Is there a handicap entrance?

You walk down a set of stairs to get into the restaurant. I think there is also a mall entrance maybe there is a handicap accessible. I would call and ask

    Is there live music?

Yes - sometimes they have live music. Generally on the weekend.

And your visit will not be handicapped by a lack of gastropub like food and drink. Their golf simulators are very impressive and combine radar and camera technology to faithfully recreate some of the best courses in the world, including St Andrews, Pebble Beach, and 120+ others. A professional organization I belong to held a gathering there last night and had a great time. We ordered and paid for our drinks through their big bar through a QR code, but you can still pay the old-fashioned way with cash if you prefer. We had plenty of their pizzas which were quite yummy. Our golfers had a blast and I should point out that although some of the other customers I saw actually brought their own set of clubs, Back 9 can hook you up with their clubs for men, women, lefties, righties, and kids. And of course, plenty of tees and balls to whack into their high-definition screens. The facility is gorgeous, the golf simulators were amazing, the staff was helpful and friendly, and it was a very enjoyable experience.

We completely understand that the facility has every right to monitor alcohol consumption and prevent inappropriate behavior. Nobody wants people getting sloppy or disruptive, and we respect that. However, there's a much more professional and respectful way to handle it than what is done. We are unsure of her name, but the female manager present made us uncomfortable as she was constantly staring at our group throughout the evening instead of simply communicating expectations directly. The alcohol restrictions are also entirely ridiculous- I specifically was told by the bartender that I was being watched for alcohol consumption after having 2 Coronas in a time span of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The restriction on alcohol itself is not the main issue -- it's the way it is handled. We have felt watched and punished despite the fact that nobody in our group was loud, inappropriate, or intoxicated on multiple occasions. I also want to note that the bartenders have been spectacular and are always very nice. This is specially about the manager and the way she acts towards paying customers. When you're spending over $200 on the simulator alone, a little courtesy and respectful communication would go a long way. We really do like this place, but experiences like this make us hesitant to come back.

Honestly, after reading the reviews, I wasn't too confident I would even be able to eke on in for dinner, but my God was I able to get in, and thank the LORD I was able to find a parking spot with such a full lot of cars! What started as a solo trip to J Timothy's became a welcome table event when fellow Yelper Angie showed up with her husband and invited me over to their table. I'm SO glad we were able to have that happen! It became one of the best post-event dinners I've had yet. It did take a bit of time to decide between the three of us, but we eventually split our checks, with me taking care of my order and Angie taking care of the rest. We had Kate as a waitress, and might I say, she was not only nice and efficient, but she was very knowledgeable of the menu and very helpful and accommodating. I immediately requested a take-out box and she delivered just like that. She was even knowledgeable on what foods and such were made in-house and what wasn't, which is honestly very impressive! Also note, we all got to have a taste of everything that came in tonight, so we got lots of food to get to! We did have the wings for our appetizers. I did the 10-wing Dirt Style Honey BBQ Gold for mine, and they got I wanna say 20(?) Buffalo wings. They were cooked to perfection, and I was able to twist the bones off the flats. Both flavors were good, but even though it could possibly be my bias talking, I did prefer my flavor of wings. I will say the Buffalo had that signature spice level there, but it didn't overpower the wing, which is awesome! Oh, and there were also the potato skins which was rated perfectly, and that tasted really good as well. For the entrees, this is why I immediately requested the box. My order was the full rack of ribs. Angie got the chicken pot pie. Usually, I don't eat pot pies, but the one Angie ordered was honestly very good. Flaky, buttery crust top, and savory filling or chicken, potatoes, peas, etc. As for my ribs, whenever I tried to cut them, all the meat kept falling off the bone! That's how you know it was cooked properly! And dear God were these ribs were delicious, succulent, and delicious! Did I mention they were delicious? The BBQ sauce was a symphony of bliss that helped make each bite of rib taste like I went to Cloud Nine! The coleslaw it came with was good, but it's not something I would say can compete with the South. But good all the same. Drinks were great too. I got the Dragon Fruit Martini(?), and that was sweet and relaxing to have after a long summer and a long drive to Plainville. Oh, and we also got dessert! Again we picked different things: Angie ordered the "Not Fried Chicken" while I went with the Key Lime Pie. Wherever these guys get their key lime pie from, keep them coming and let me know so I can get some more myself! The raspberry sauce was a great choice for accompaniment and complimented the pie nicely. And the slice was divine! The Not Fried Chicken is a very innovative idea, and it tasted good as well. I can see now why this place gets so much love. It's insane how good this place is in just about every aspect! The sink did take a bit to learn, but that was about my only criticism, other than that this place easily gets 5 stars from me, and I am so glad to have had this dinner with Angie and meet her husband. #KeepYelping

We chose booth seating on the 2nd floor, which was cozy, and boasted a cool view of the downstairs area. For my beverage, I chose the Cherry mocktail, which was oh so fizzy, refreshing, and a nice mix of sweet and tart. We shared the Chili Dirt Wings and Fried Calamari. The Wings were fried twice and generously sauced. They were satisfyingly crispy and full of bold flavor with a bit of a kick. The Fried Calamari was light and crunchy. I had a tough time selecting my entree, but finally went with Taverne Grilled Meatloaf. This dish consisted of beef and pork meatloaf, loaded mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables. The Meatloaf was cooked perfectly on the char-broiler, giving it a slightly smoky taste and bit of caramelization, then smothered in a tomato glaze. Meatloaf was delightfully tender and well seasoned. Loaded Mashed Potatoes was mouthwatering, covered in melty cheese, bacon, and scallions. Veggies included carrots, zucchini, squash and had a great consistency, adding a fresh element to the dish. For dessert, I had to get one of my favorites: Sticky Toffee Pudding. Their version was a moist, dense sponge Bundt cake with caramel sauce. It was decent, but overly sticky sweet even for me. Service was solid. Our waitress was welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything came out in a timely manner. If I return, I would want to try the Shepherd's Pie, Boneless Braised Short Ribs, or Pierogies and Kielbasa.

I was visiting Connecticut last week for wedding and staying with some friends in Middletown. I arrived on a Tuesday night with a hungry stomach so we figured Eli Cannon's was an easy spot to hit up. I went here many, many, many years ago when I still lived in Connecticut (I live in LA now) but don't remember much of the experience other then what the inside looks like and man, it still looks the exact freaking same. We arrived around 8PM and got seated right away. The staff was super attentive with providing drinks and menus and the kitchen staff had the food out super quick as well. I kept it simple and ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap with a side of french fries and really enjoyed it. The Buffalo Chicken Wrap tasted great and the hot sauce wasn't overpowering. The french fries here were crispy and tasted great, the perfect pairing for a late night bite (look, eating out at 8PM is late for me). Overall, Eli Cannon's is mostly a bar, but is also a pretty solid place to grab a bite to eat. The place truly is Middletown and with friends living nearby, I can definitely see myself returning in the future for some night time grub.

The burger was more like a mush pancake and the bun was way too big for the burger as well as not that toasted which might have made it seem not as fresh; i will order it again to see if it was a fluke since I appreciate the effort to make it themselves as opposed to serving a frozen black bean burger . We assumed the place would be packed as we headed in to watch the 1:00 game. But it was dead. Which we were kind of relieved because we weren't worried about finding a table but also kind of perplexed because any other place that serves wings on a Sunday during football season is bursting at the seams. We walked in and stood at the hostess station waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes and didn't see an employee at all. My husband finally just walked over to the bar area and spotted someone around the corner. He asked if we could sit and she was somewhat agreeable to the idea. Thankfully our server McKenna was a delight. She was attentive and efficient. The French onion soup was fantastic. The wings were fine but not as good as I remember. They used to have a crisp to them. Now they are just kind of soggy. The kids liked their chicken tenders although I thought it looked like they had been in the fryer a tad too long. I could get past all that except I can't overlook the lack of management and the terrible bartender. We observed multiple people come in and stand at the hostess station for excessive amounts of time before anyone bothered to greet them. There were people at the bar with empty drinks and the bartender was standing around the corner on her phone while people waited. It was just a bad movie unfolding before our eyes. It was an experience for sure. This place used to be and could be amazing - they just need better hands on management and something to draw the crowd in on Sundays. We might come back if we see any chatter about new management, but until then it's probably off our rotation.
