What a lucky draw. Right through the door, the interior is jaw-dropping. Clever, whimsical, and completely transporting...to where? Inside a boat? Inside a whale? Inside a Scandinavian forest? I often look at wine lists first. Seeing what a restaurant chooses to serve by the glass provides a clue to creativity, thoughtfulness, pricing. Osa was off to a great start on all points. Then the food started arriving and we knew we'd struck gold. Unexpected flavor balances and combinations. Fantastic use of game meat. Spot-on execution. Recently we had a larger party than our reservations and they were able to accommodate us with a short wait, even though the restaurant was packed. A fantastic experience from start to end. It was super easy to get a reservation on a Friday night and when we got there our server was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us pick the perfect dishes. Starting with the corn ribs and the octopus are a strong recommendation from me. I ordered the chicken Milliese and my friend got a burger. Both were perfect. Osa is a gem located in Middletown Connecticut. With its stunning interior and friendly weight staff, this is definitely a place to check out. We've been two times now and the service and food quality are consistent. The first time we went I had a fish dish and I didn't care for it. It was a little too smoky and fishy for me. But it looks lovely. What I remember from our first visit was the burger that my husband had so when we recently revisited I knew that was the thing to get. And I have no regrets. Had dinner last night. My daughter had a delightful, tasty fresh salad with peaches and tomatoes, it looked beautiful and she scarfed it down pretty fast. Next she had a plate of grilled octopus that looked like a cover photo for food and wine magazine, it was delicious as well. I had stuffed squash blossoms, ive had them before,and just as tasty this time. Three of the freshest, cleanest tasting oysters i have ever had. My favorite was the nochi with braised beef. Finally got a chance to check out OSA with my bestie after we've been taking about going for years. We made a table reso but opted to sit at the bar instead because it's more fun. The bartenders were great. My friend loved her spicy margaritas and my rose was great. We split the salad and both had the burger. Salad was good and burger was delicious as well as fries. First, I have to say we had high expectations for dining at OSA based on the reviews here on Yelp. But I will make this review short since I don't want to waste anymore time on this experience. The menu was small (and I can appreciate that) but unfortunately the two dishes we wanted were sold out on a Saturday night at 8PM and were not told about the sold out dishes until we were asked to order. And that is unacceptable. If we hadn't already ordered wine we would have got up and left because we were not impressed with what was left on the menu to choose from. Not impressed by the food or the service as the waiter was just going through the motions and far from inviting. Our visit to Middletown from New Jersey (visiting for a memorial) was amazing until the stop at OSA. In short, skip this place unless you want an unreliable menu, mediocre service and high prices. read more

We went to Osa for our daughters birthday recently. While I am not a fan of the loud music, it was OK. Great ambience with the wood ceiling. The service was absolutely fantastic. Very attentive waitress. Every request was followed. And without a doubt, the hanger steak was the best steak I have had in a restaurant in decades. Perfectly cooked. Presented in a chimichurri sauce that was out of this world. Extremely generous portion. Absolutely everything was delicious. Definitely worth a repeat. Kudos to the chef! read more

We stopped in unexpectedly for my birthday. It was conveniently located close to the parking lots off of Main St. It was an easy quick walk on a cold evening. The restaurant decor was very unique. The bar is really beautiful looking- and the wood plank ceilings are simple yet cool design. Our waitress was attentive and patient. We wanted to enjoy a cocktail before dinner so she let us relax without bothering us too much and checked in periodically. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. I can't have too much dairy, so I asked if the lobster tagliatelle had a lot of cream- she stated it only had a few tablespoons, so I ordered it anyways. She came back moments later and let me know she spoke to the chef and could omit the cream totally, but told him to just do a dash. The dash was the perfect amount of cream. I really enjoyed the lobster tagliatelle. It had the right amount of spice- and a lot of lobster meat! It had both claws and the body meat of the lobster. The pasta was light, and perfectly cooked. Just the perfect amount of food. My husband ordered the duck, which I was lucky enough that he let me try a bite. It was tasty!! And cooked to perfection. My husband did let the waitstaff know it was my bday, and ordered me a dessert. They brought it out with a candle for me. It was the first night they added the flourless chocolate cake to the dessert menu. Hubby sure made the right choice picking this cake for dessert!! Sometimes flourless cakes are super dense- but this one was perfect consistency and had some light airiness to it. I am really excited to come back and try some more things off the menu. Found myself up in Connecticut for a fencing tournament, and brought my wife along. We were looking for a fun and memorable date night spot the night before, and Osa in Middletown was only one town over from our Airbnb and was the perfect place to dine. Our incredible dinner began with their top-notch cocktails: I selected the 1792 Manhattan (I adore Manhattans, and this was a special one) and the wife sipped the Bees Uncommon, which she loved too. For app, we tried the wood roasted olives with lemon, chili oil and herbs, which was delicious and really memorable. For mains, I had the fabulous OSA Smash Burger, consisting og double Soeltl Farm red angus patties, gruyere and herb mayo on a brioche bun. OMG it was great. The wife selected the cavatelli with roasted Green Circle chicken, spicy tomato sauce and calabro burratina cheese, which pleased her greatly. We had saved room for dessert, and she immediately wolfed down the chocolate coconut pot de creme, while I savored my Summer Sundae (macerated blackberries and strawberries, crumbled crisp topping and vanilla gelato). Seating is spaced enough where you don't totally feel on top of each other and could have a nice conversation. Recommend making a reservation on the weekends bc it was busy! Pasta is made fresh and you can tell, the octopus was the perfect texture. For mains I got the burger- to die for! Hubs got the chicken it was good but the burger stole the show. Osa is a nice small intimate restaurant, great for a date night away from the kids, or meeting for the first time. Our waitress Erin, was friendly, and took our order promptly and checked on us regularly throughout our dinner. There is a limited menu, with several choices of proteins, but we were there for the burgers. The burger menu changes all the time, so make sure you check daily for what's being served. I ordered the Salmon burger, the burger was handmade on a fresh bun topped with lettuce and a dab of tarter sauce and a side salad. It also comes with a draft beer. When I picked up my burger half of it fell out of the bun and fell into my salad dressing cup spilling it all over that half of salmon , and then when I placed my bun down on the plate, half of that was covered in dressing too! After I reassembled my burger and took a bite, the flavors were a bit all over the place, but I attributed the salmon falling out as being freshly handmade and not a patty. Once I made my way through the rest of the burger, it was delicious! I have no complaints about how it tasted the rest of the way. Parking: Tough, no lot and on a main street, there is a lot 2 blocks away or you can tried side streets. COVID: Tables were 4-5 feet apart, not the greatest with no dividers but they try...I personally think should take out a few more tables but they are trying to maximize where they can to make up for lost revenue. Decor: Basic and stylish all in one, tastefully done though personally I feel they went cheap on the chairs, felt like the plastic ones from IKEA. Sound: All the tables were filled and it got quite noisy inside, I felt like I had to raise my voice during discussion at the table. They should invest in sound dampening on the ceiling area to help with the noise. Service: Excellent, our waitress was Amelia and she was on point with drinks and check-in's without being too frequent. Food: I had the Lamb and it was prepared perfectly, portions were larger than I had expected, they could have gotten away with one piece instead of two. Had heard great things about this relative new comer: seasonal menu, local products, yada, yada. On arrival I was prepared to sour on it fast. Crappy Middletown parking, Hipster host with obligatory ski cap, noisy and small with a decor vaguely reminiscent of a Scandinavian dry sauna. But it won me over fast with its quality, attention to detail, and professionalism. Excellent cocktails fairly priced; nice warm rustic loaf with whipped ricotta. Winter salad with beets and spicy pistachios were gobbled up fast as was the silky sunchoke soup. All entrees were excellent including pork and mushroom ragout with broccolini and whipped potatoes; tagliatelle with seafood, risotto with braised short rib (a bit dry and fatty but still tasty) and the best dish I tasted: pan roasted monk fish with fennel.
