Been here recently to try out this restaurant, don't need a reservation although it is recommended to get one ahead of time. We didn't have much time so we just tried some appetizers. Wings and the Sol House Nachos The Nachos are made really well, usually I don't finish a full order but this one was wiped clean and finger licking. Also tried one of their cocktails but was okay. The service is quick and outstanding the waitress checked on us regularly, the place got busy as we were leaving. They have a full bar well stocked. Only thing we didn't like is the price of items, they are more expensive than the usual prices for the quantity served. May try it once again.

Cute, clean, and inviting little restaurant with eclectic menu options! After seeing an instagram post from the owner/chef, my husband and I knew we had to give it a try! We were instantly greeted when walking through the door, and promptly seated. We decided to order an appetizer of the brussel sprouts, which were the perfect combination of salty and sweet. For my entree I had to order the mac crack, which was perfectly cheesy and crunchy on top with breadcrumbs (plus it was good sized, so instant leftovers!) My husband ordered the classic burger with fries. He said his burger was juicy and perfectly cooked. We don't usually order desert, but here at this restaurant we knew it was a must. All of the choices sounded good, but we chose the strawberry crepe, which was so good and light. My husband and I will gladly return!

My wife and I were looking for a place that represents what a Top Chef eating experience would taste like, and we came across this truly delightful hidden gem called Sol House Tavern in Middletown, CT. The water was crisp, fresh. The appetizer was honestly the best I've tasted in forever: fresh and flavorful FRIED CHICKEN STEAM BUNs with spiced walnut pesto, arugula, pickled onion, and sweet buttermilk sauce. OMG, you have to try it! For main dishes, my wife had Fish Tacos, and I had PANKO PARM CRUSTED COD with dill crema, mashed potatoes, and seasonal sautéed veggies. You must try it! The freshness and flavor of everything just open your eyes to appreciate the art and skill behind loving to cook. The chef is amazing, and once you taste the food, you'll understand why I believe you'll taste what separates Sol House Tavern from any place you experience. 10s all around, 5 stars, hands down. Great service. Amazing Presentation!

The restaurant wasn't too crowded, but there were still a fair number of people, which was nice. There were a few specials--chicken noodle soup, meatloaf, etc that seemed tempting as well. My mom wound up getting the chicken noodle soup, and she loved it! We split the pork burnt ends appetizer. If I had known how good the pork was, I would've maybe gotten the pork belly bahn mi. I know I'll have to get that next time! Because this appetizer stole the show. I absolutely will have to get it again next time. I got the fish and chips, which were stellar! They were heavy on the fish and a little lighter on the breading than I normally expect, which was nice. The fries and coleslaw were delicious too--I really loved the fries. My dad got the wings, which he picked when he saw they make their own dry rub. Really great stuff!! Heavy on the seasoning but delicious. I'll definitely be back!

"This is the rhythm of the night Baby, tonight's like fuego…read more We 'bout to spend the dinero We party to the extremo" (Black Eyed Peas) Our visit to Fuego Mexican Grill today was the result of three simple factors lining up perfectly. #1 - We hadn't had Mexican food in quite a while, so correcting that deficiency was on our radar. #2 - We were already in Cromwell picking up our Travelers Championship volunteer packages. #3 - And for several reasons, we never managed to have an anniversary meal this year. Together, those factors made Fuego the natural choice -- and a very good one. Walking into the dining room, we were struck by how stunning the room was. We saw dozens of ornate red/orange fire burst light fixtures on the ceiling. In fact, the ceiling had more than just light fixtures. It also had long cascading strands of white and pink flower garlands. There were cactus plants on the windowsills and huge murals of Mexican heritage imagery in the dining room, bar, and pretty much everywhere. . Our lunch started off when Valerie brought us a bowl of complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were terrific- a little thicker than others, but salt-free and addictive. The salsa was also very good -not watery and runny, just a little spicy, with plenty of onion, cilantro, and tomato chunks. For our food, we ordered a Traditional Quesadilla ($15.99) - described on the website as "Two flour tortillas, filled with melted cheese and shredded chicken or beef (we went with chicken), Sour cream, Guacamole and pico de Gallo on side" and an order of their Camarones Fuego ($23.99) - "Sauteed garlic shrimps with mushrooms in a spicy sauce. Served with white rice and salad". The food was delicious and the portions were very large. In fact, we took home more than we ate there, so it's almost like "Buy a lunch and get another one for free". My shrimp plate was great. First of all, it was definitely spicy, which was fine with me because I love that. It had a lot of shrimp and mushrooms, and probably more than a cup and a half of rice. The salad was a nice addition to the plate- lightly dressed Romaine, spinach, onions, and Cotija cheese. Valerie was pleasant and efficient throughout our visit. All in all, we really enjoyed our experience at Fuego. Improvement Opportunities I noticed some inconsistencies between their website pricing and descriptions when compared to the actual delivery of the dishes. Specifically, the quesadilla had a lower website price, and the Pico promised on the website was not delivered on our plate. When I asked Valerie if the dish was missing Pico, she confidently said, no... it's not included. Well, your website begs to differ.

Our waitress was absolutely amazing. She was kind, attentive, and whenever something was forgotten, she immediately went to speak with the kitchen and tried to make it right. That being said, our table definitely seemed to fall into a bit of a communication dead zone. My chicken parm was forgotten, and while waiting for it the rest of my family's food got cold. They ended up sending their pasta back to be reheated, which also took a while. Our drinks were forgotten at one point as well, and our to go dessert sat waiting for a long time before anyone brought it over. The food itself was great and we still enjoyed celebrating together, but overall the experience would have been much smoother with better communication between the kitchen and staff. Drinks stayed filled, and the waiter came by to make sure we didn't want any refills on any alcoholic beverages as they were being consumed. He recommended a few appetizers for the table. We got to try the chef special, garlic bread with ricotta, and calamari. All very good. As was the bread and oil that I think comes with every meal. After I heard the specials, I went with the short rib gnocchi, but the salmon with spaghetti squash was a close second. I wasn't disappointed in my dish. It was a really good size and I ended up taking half of it back with me, something tells me it's gonna be even better the next day as most Italian food is. My one regret is that I didn't order the lemon cheesecake to go. All of the desserts sounded amazing, especially the hazelnut tart, however, the lemon cheesecake is super cute and I heard from other people that have been to this restaurant before that it is delicious. Maybe next time!

I do wish there were more signs, as both the parking lot and the entrance felt a bit vague and easy to miss. Once we finally found our way inside, we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere reminded me of another local tavern. Staffed by friendly people. The food was good, and the overall experience was enjoyable. My only disappointment was the lack of information about the history of the establishment. There is a lot of marketing that references its connection to a jailhouse on the menu, but very little information is actually shared within the tavern itself. I found myself wanting to learn more about the story behind the place. I also think it would be fun to add a photo-op area--perhaps even outdoors--with a set of mock jail bars where guests could take pictures. It would fit the theme and add a memorable touch. The tavern itself is fairly small, so I can imagine it gets quite crowded during busy times. Overall, it's definitely worth checking out.
