We stopped for a late lunch at Salute today. It was too hot to sit in their attractive outside dining area. We chose a cozy booth in the dining room. Our waitress was prompt in taking drink orders and delivering warm, freshly baked bread with an original tomato butter spread. Yum! I ordered the butternut salad which Was lovely. My husband ordered the sweet potato ravioli and raved about it. He devoured them, actually. We have nothing but praise for Salute. Prices were reasonable, ambiance was upscale and the service excellent. Did I mention the food? I hate to admit this, but it's than my Nonnas. read more

Came here specifically for happy hour... The food was okay. I would only order 1 dish again. We ordered four apps from the happy hour menu... 1. Fried mozz... the flavor of the cheese was good but the pieces were over fried so it was kinda hard and tasted somewhat burnt 2. Risotto balls... those were great, just needed a lil more sauce. I would definitely order this again. 3. Spicy Calamari... There was an unpleasant odor as soon as they came out. Tasted the actual Calamari and it was delicious but the dish was ruined with all the crap that was added. The yucky slaw and the sauce/ drizzle were unnecessary and made the dish inedible. Wish they left it off or put it in the side so we could have enjoyed the Calamari itself. 4. Sweet Potato Ravioli... the actual ravioli was good. Loved the filling. But this dish was ruined by a flavorless sauce. It tasted like cream mixed with butter. That sauce should be left off. Im sure the server already knew we didnt really enjoy it bcuz he didnt even question why food was left and we didnt want to take any of it to go... Most recent visit must've been an off night. We sat at the bar and the service was not as attentive as usual; i think it was a combination of regulars that the bartender preferred combined with the World Cup being on TV. I had a pasta special with broccoli rabe and I expected to have more broccoli in the dish - see photo. Hubby enjoyed his salad but didn't think the meatballs seemed were up to standards. As usual, the bread was great, the drink were stellar and i will chalk it up to an off night. My husband and I tried this restaurant on a whim, as we were in the area and the reviews sounded good. I wanted to love the food, especially since everyone who worked there was so friendly and welcoming, but somehow it fell short. We ordered the garlic cheese bread to start with which was good, very garlicky. For his main course, my husband ordered the chicken parmigiana. I was between two dishes, the rose pasta and the chicken alla bella. Our waiter steered me toward the rose pasta. When our meals arrived both dishes were plated very nicely. My rose pasta contained sausage which was ground up, instead of in pieces which surprised me. While my dish was edible, it wasn't very tasty, I especially didn't like the texture (texture isn't usually an issue for me either). I should have gone with the chicken alla bella instead. My husband found his pasta to be dry and lacking in sauce. The chicken parmigiana cutlet tasted like something we could make at home, nothing special. Once again, the staff were very welcoming which is why I'm giving this three stars instead of two. We shall not return to this establishment. read more

Visited for the first time - I honestly never knew it was here! - and enjoyed our meals, with a few surprises. No complimentary bread for the table? No pizza? No side salad or anything included with pasta dishes? Hmm. That said, it was all tasty. The chicken parmigiana was huge, and the homemade meatballs in the "Sunday Dinner" were big and flavorful. The chicken alla bella was good and I liked the cream sauce with spinach and mushrooms, but gave away most of my pancetta. I had enough left over for lunch the next day. I ordered lunch with my coworkers and had the Tomato & Mozzarella Ciabatta with fries. The sandwich was really good, the pesto was generously applied and the balsamic syrup gave it the perfect touch of sweetness. The fries were good, a little mushy, but that's what I usually expect for takeout. I ordered the rose pasta with tortellini and on the menu it said it came with sweet sausage. When it came out it was sooooo good the tortellini was amazing. I do wish there was more sausage - it was just a few crumbles but it was still good! The deserts..... don't even get me started. Devoured in minutes. The place is very open making it a little loud but you get used to it quickly. The food came out very fast and I was very happy with the service. The waitstaff made us feel warmed and comfortable. We had to wait some time for the menus, to clear the table and the bill. To put a positive spin on it - we were not rushed. The food was a mixed bag. The shrimp piccatta tasteless- really it had no taste at all. I had to add lemon and even then it was still devoid. I was bumming because I typically love piccata . As an Italian I was disappointed. The cod and the salmon meals in the other hand were very good. The garlic bread was good and cheesy but the ricotta ball was not very good. Again not tasty. It seemed like the cooks missed an ingredient in some of the meals. The price was fine but charging 2.50 for water was something I was not expecting. Like I said good and bad. Great place. Family friendly, great date night place or just t go out for drinks with friends. Professionally run, 2nd in the chain. Food is always great. Quality ingredients. Consistency and prices are very good. I have not seen a huge price increase in past 15 years. Volume and return regulars must be the secret. Checked out the Rocky Hill Location as it is near my parent's apartment and I have to find them better places so they stop going to the Olive Garden. It was busy for a Friday night but they had plenty of seating. It is a nice location and a lot less dark than the Hartford location. We ordered the shrimp Diablo pasta for my mom, my dad ordered the Rose pasta and I ordered the chicken penne a la vodka. My mom loved her dish and defiantly made the best choice. Everything was fresh and delicious. They didn't skimp on the seafood either. It is not super spicy. My dad's Rose pasta was very good as well but he a little picky and wasn't a huge fan of the tortellini but I tried it and it was delicious. I had the penne a la vodka. The chicken was tasty but the pasta was bit soupy with the sauce. They fixed it but was still a bit too watery for my taste. Next time will defiantly order something else. Price was reasonable and in line with nicer Italian places in the area. I go to the Hartford location a lot for work and this one is just as good. read more

We got other appetizers and I remembered that the spicy fried calamari was really good. The portions are huge here. I was already half full when my entree, the 10oz North Atlantic Salmon (Grilled Salmon, Potato Lasagna & Sautéed Spinach with Preserved Lemon Cream came, cause I had two slices of bread. Salmon was good, loved the potato lasagna but it was very heavy. They also gave us this HUGE roll of garlic bread and biscotti to take home. Super friendly staff and ample parking outside. read more

We kind of knew Salute was going to be crowded when we circled their parking lot three times in search of a parking spot. We ended up parking in the plaza next door, walked through the rain, and were heartily greeted by the maître d' who walked us to what seemed like the only available table. Now remember, this was lunchtime on Wednesday, and Salute was pretty much at full capacity. We met Lori, our server, who was so professional and personable throughout our stay. She whisked over a complimentary breadbasket with "tomato butter", and I'll bet you a nickel those are two words you've never used together before. It tasted great. Speaking of "great", they have a great lunch menu of salads, sandwiches, and entrees mostly in the low to mid $teens. We went with a traditional Beef Bolognese over ziti ($14) and a Shrimp Diablo ($16). It was a beauty of a dish that also had hot Italian sausage and chorizo slices, Sicilian olives, and spinach in a red sauce over linguini. I asked for "extra spicy" and when Lori asked if it was spicy enough, I gave her a big smile because it was perfect. Another shout-out to Lori for her frequent check backs and water refills. Some restaurants offer small portions on their lunch menu, but not here. Both dishes were sizable and half of each came home with us. An unexpected surprise came when Lori wrapped up our leftovers and told us she put some biscotti in our bag to take home. Our two meals and an iced tea totaled $34.62 after tax and before tip. Considering the nice breadbasket, two big lunches, and freebie biscotti, that was tremendous value. Such a welcoming place! From the host who answered and brought us to our table till the super nice waitress that made sure we had a great experience! It warms my heart knowing that this place exists!! The food was delicious and very glad they have gluten free options on the menu! This place was packed on a Thursday night so reservations are strongly recommended but also it means that they are doing something right! The ambiance was casual and I will definitely return. The Service at Salute is truly outstanding! From the moment we walked in, they were showing top notch care and loyalty. The host welcomed as at the door with menus in hand. She offered "where would you like to sit? sit anywhere you would be most comfortable!" It's the little things like this that mean alot. Shortly after our waiter Nate, came and greeted us "welcome friends". The whole time he referred to us as "my friends". He brought out complimentary fresh bread with the tastiest smoked tomato butter. For my cocktail I got the Lavender Lush. This was a refreshing and light cocktail that I enjoyed! For my meal I got the Peach & Burrata salad and the Tuna Maki. This salad was incredible! It was so fresh, delicious and colorful. There were grilled peaches, cherry tomatoes, pistachios and the softest, freshest, milkiest ball of Burrata cheese! My Tuna Maki was also a win! Who knew an Italian restaurant could also make sushi? I didn't. This Tuna Maki was a very good add on, it came with the best sriracha aioli sauce, that woke up my tastebuds. Others in my party got the stake and the mozzarella and tomato salad. They also gave each of us bags of biscotti to take home. We had a wonderful time at Salute of Rocky Hill. I have tried the Rocky Hill location twice now and I hate writing this review as I am a HUGE Hartford Salut fan so I feel kind of bad but I need to be honest. If it was just one mediocre visit I would let it go, but today was my second visit within a month or so with another disappointing experience. The menu is the same as Hartford but the flavor and quality just isn't there. When we sat in the main dining area the service was excellent, but today in the bar area I was very disappointed. The bartender was nice enough but not super attentive and the espresso martini was not good at all. (I usually love Salut's espresso martinis.) The ambiance is identical to Hartford as far as it being an inviting and comfortable space. Again, there are definitely servers and/or hosts in Rocky Hill that provide the same superior level of service that you find in Hartford, but there's definitely something lacking in some of the employees. It's just not the same and I hate to say it but I worry about this location. Anyway, I will continue to support Salut because I'm a huge fan but I'll just opt to make the longer drive to Hartford. read more

Awesome service, nice decor, good food Heading home from a local soccer tournament, we decided to get food from something other than a food truck, and Salute had a lot of positive reviews so we decided to give it a go. The physical location is a little confusing. it's housed next to a standard webster bank location and almost looks like a continuation of it. One could make the assumption that it's a large bank instead of an Italian place next to a bank. But the signage helps, just not so much from the street, you have to have this one in the GPS to find. Inside, we're greeted with a very welcoming and open space. We take a booth seat and order a couple drinks. Girlfriends Arnold Palmer was refreshing and to her tastes, my cappuccino was well done as well. little bit of cinnamon helped pop out the sweet flavor of the milk and the splenda I used. We place in an order for spaghetti and meatballs, mac and cheese, and some spicy calamari with some mussels as well. Food comes out promptly, and we dig in. The Calamari were lightly battered, cooked well, and seasoned well. They were cooked a little too hard, but since calamari can be very temperamental when cooking that is to be anticipated. The sweet and spicy sauce across the plate gave the dish a nice heat level. The Mussels were pretty good too, sausage had a good flavor and the Mussels were prepared well in a light tomato based sauce. Did have a few unopened shells, but once again, to be anticipated The meatballs were home-made, ground in house, and seasoned. The meatballs were loosely formed with breadcrumb, which gave it a distinctly homemade taste and feel. The outside was browned, seasoned, and dunked in their chunky tomato sauce. With once again, heavy tomato flavor with grassy undertones but mellow. The accompanied linguini was a dried pasta of a good quality. was able to carry that tasty sauce in each bite They love using farm fresh tomatoes in their dishes. not acidic, but mellow and balanced with a sharp umami bite and a grassy undertone. The butter has it, the mussels had it, as did their meatballs. It's very tasty, very well made and applied. Which is great, since it's used in a lot of their dishes. The only issue we had was with the mac and cheese. The cheese flavor was not really present, kind of tasted like they forgot to add cheese into it. The manager of this location was very much on point though. not only was it removed from the bill but they asked us what was wrong, offered replacements, and talked to their line. Great customer service, and we appreciated the attention to detail. Overall, this place was pretty good. It's a nice location with good food and a caring staff. There's a couple minor hiccups, but that was probably just because of an individual experience. If you really like tomatoes, this place will be amazing to you. read more

I called Salute in Rocky Hill to book a party for my husband's birthday, then followed up with a few questions and requests. Andy, the restaurant owner, answered my every question and offered solutions to my every request. I knew we will have a wonderful experience. I have to say I was 100% correct. It felt like I not only hosted my family and friends at the party, but we felt like the management and staff of the restaurant were also our family! We experienced so much warmth from them! The food was amazing from start to finish. A unique garlic bread, chicken Marsala, and pasta ala vodka - yam! Nice fresh coffee and biscottis - a great finish. The restaurant takes pride in consistently delivering excellency in every dish. Service was responsive, timely, and anticipated our every need. What a great Italian dinner. Staff was welcoming and attentive. Restaurant was very clean and organized. Food came out so quickly and hot - definitely not waiting around to hit the table. We started with the spicy calamari and mussels with chorizo. The calamari - while not very spicy, more sweet and spicy, was lightly fried to perfection with hot peppers. The mussels were in a delicious tomato based broth with chorizo. The chorizo was great. The sunday sauce linguini with meatballs was a treat. The sauce was one of the best robust red sauces I have had in a while. Meanwhile I loved the texture of the meatballs. Actual chucks of onion and spices, versus the over wormed meatballs you get most places. Overall a great Italian dinner location. Just went to Salute for the 3rd time, and got another bad seat. They seating is just awful in general at this location. This time they sat us right by the kitchen in a spot that clearly blocks the way. I asked if they had any other tables available, and they didn't. The food was fine. I enjoyed my hanger steak and cheesy garlic bread. My friend's pasta bolognese was really soupy. Our server was great, and we appreciated the complimentary biscotti. Took me long enough to get here but glad I did. Early dinner reservation after Hartford Stage matinée. Switched to Pinot Grigio from Sauvignon Blanc and it is really much less acidic for me. The luscious Garlic Cheese Bread app is almost a meal with your glass of wine. We both ordered the Crispy Pork Chop [I know it's against the rules to have the same entrée at the table]. She enjoyed it more than I did. The chop is enorme but was a little dry for me. The salad on top and accompany dressing were excellent! The side order of Asparagus wasn't even needed. The Ricotta Pie made locally was extreme [extremely good!] but unfortunately we ordered only one to share [next time...]. Excellent service by both waitstaff and front of the house. Came here with several friends for a work trip/party. We had a very large party and they accommodated us with ease! Very clean and right ambiance to have a conversation with others. Appetizer assortment we selected was cheesy bread, caprese salad, and risotto balls. The entrees were generous portions and were exceptional in flavor/quality. I had spicy fusilli dish. During my days working in downtown Hartford I frequented Salute, so I was intrigued to hear that they opened a location in Rocky Hill. I've now visited a couple of times and can attest that it remains a quality option in terms of ambiance and service. Hospitality is very important to the brand and the folks in Rocky Hill make you feel just as at home as Hartford. I love the cheesy garlic bread of course. I'm not a huge pasta person, so I try to switch up my orders and everything I've eaten at Salute has been above average. I love the desserts I've tried recently, including the peanut butter pie as a standout. Cons for this location is parking seems sparse for the capacity of the building and the existing spots are tight, I find. read more

The consistency is good. I had a Short-Rib Bolognese here twice, about a year apart each time and it tasted exactly the same, each time. I guess consistency is good if you like what you experienced so yes, this is the good consistency. The pasta in my Short-Rib Bolognese was al dente and the sauce was refreshingly light for this quick lunch. The short-rib itself was soft and flavorful. I also tried their cheesey garlic bread to start and yes, it was chewy, cheesy, garlicy and had the perfect crust on it. Their starter bread was also fresh and it's hard to say no when they offer you more. Now for the Seafood Bisque, I'm like an addict when it comes to any Bisque. I mean this in the best way possible because so far everyone I have spoken to about this sensitive topic of bisques agrees that the Stew Leonard's Lobster Bisque is secretly the best bisque we have ever had. Well, their Seafood Bisque reminded me of Stew Leonard's Lobster Bisque. Absolutely delightful. As for the service, it seems like the staff treats regulars like family and welcomes each party with just as much love. The restaurant itself was bright and modern. Brought a much more casual and inviting feeling compared to their mote sophisticated location in Downtown Hartford. In conclusion, it's another Salute. Another amazing Italian restaurant that provides food in which I dream about at night. Not every night but at least when the mood is right. First time in Salute's second location in Rocky Hill. Couldn't wait to try. We started with the Espresso Martini and it was absolutely phenomenal! I don't order these often but we were told they are a must here! So smooth and didn't even taste like alcohol, which is what usually makes me avoid ordering martinis. The risotto balls we ordered as an app were perfect, just wish they gave you more! The sauce that came with them was also very good! The portions for the meals were typical of a higher end Italian restaurant. The chicken parm came with two big pieces of chicken and very filling. The sauce probably could have used more seasoning. The chicken gnocchi was very creamy and the short rib bolognese was cooked perfectly! I wish the menu had a little more unique options, nothing really jumped out to me as "ohh I gotta try this." The staff was amazing though, big shout-out to them! We were celebrating my mom's retirement which I mentioned that when I made the reservation and it seems like every staff member was aware, so sweet!
