Came here for New Year's Day Brunch as we saw their Facebook ad and it looked like a cool place to try. Was a bit of a process to get a reservation. Called a few days prior to see if we could get a table and they kept saying they were booked unless we wanted to come in at 10:00am. I said no thank you and tried again the next day....they said no again but to call again at night to see if there were any cancellations. So I called again and they said we could come at 12:30 which is the time we preferred (it was either that or 1:00 - can't remember the exact time). Upon arriving, the room down below appeared to be full, but there were many tables up top that were empty. Maybe there weren't enough servers to accommodate more tables, but it definitely wasn't booked up so not sure why they kept telling me they couldn't accommodate us at the time we preferred. Ambiance really nice - overlooking the golf course. We walked around after brunch around the cart path. Nice walk - even in the cold. I got the Lyman's Egg Benedict with gluten free bread and fruit on the side. Boyfriend got the Western Omelet with bacon instead of ham. Home fries very tasty however lukewarm. We decided to stop here after picking some apples. Found two open seats at the bar. The bartender came over right away to welcome us and bring us menus and take our drink orders. The restaurant was very busy due to the beautiful October day. We arrived, it was still the brunch menu. They had so many great choices along with a few lunch items added in. We decided to wait the 20 minutes for the lunch menu. We ordered chili and a burger. We had some exceptions but the waitress was accommodating and our food came out exactly as we had ordered it. Along with the diverse items for lunch, they also have a great beer on tap menu which includes their local cider. If you're in the area picking some fruits or vegetables, definitely stop in and have a beer and some lunch. read more

Tried 1741 for a work lunch and they accommodated our large party of 14 people. We made a reservation beforehand. The view from the dining room of the golf course was lovely because of the large windows around the restaurant. There was a bar area and it wasn't too busy, mostly people from the golf club. The menu is small with mostly burgers, salads, and sandwiches, but nothing that particularly unique. We ordered a few appetizers; Parmesan Garlic Knots, Spinach and Artichoke Dip, and the Roasted Brussels Sprouts. I enjoyed the Spinach and Artichoke Dip which came with naan bread. I ordered the Cape Codder--a fried cod sandwich with tartar sauce and the works. It was nicely fried and not greasy. It came with house made, ruffle, potato chips that everyone loved. The burgers were huge and others ordered paninis and ruebens As a vegetarian/pescatarian, I wished they had better options besides salad and Impossible Burger replacements. Also, since the restaurant is by Lyman's Orchard, it would been nice to see some unique apple dishes or specials for the fall season. Overall we had a great experience for our work lunch. I thought I had left a positive review last year but can't find it now. However, I came to change that review anyway. We've been there during the week for lunch, which was fine. This is just a warning NOT to attend Sunday brunch/breakfast there. They have a DJ/Karaoke thing going on that is so unnecessarily loud. Many tables complained because it's so loud that we can't even hear each other at our tables. Still, they did nothing. We get it, when there's music somewhere it's not quiet. But during what people expect to be a nice, quiet brunch ends up being as loud as a teenage party where people can't talk it's just way too much. We checked their website/Facebook page before heading over just to double check they had no event going on, which they didn't. No mention of the DJ. This is the second brunch/breakfast we went to and both times the DJ was there and it was crazy loud music. The first time we thought it was a private party but it turns out he's just there on behalf of the pub. Wish we knew that before going. Plus, the food was terrible and we waited almost 30 minutes for it to come, waited for our check for another 20 and waited in line (with only us in it, party of 3) for 10 minutes. Waitress never checked on us and got our order wrong. We won't be back. read more

The Elote dip was so good and the chips were salty crispy and fresh. The service was great they didn't leave me wanting for anything. The view of the gold course was stunning and they have the Lymans lanter festival set up right there so you can see it while you eat if you sit in the right spot. I must preface that my experience here was limited. I attended an event that was held at 1741. However, the full menu was available. Service was friendly and prompt. The event was held in a separate room, so we had privacy and quiet. I ordered the fig and prosciutto flatbread. It was OK. My friends had the mash potato bowl special and a salad. Both looked good. This restaurant is positioned near a golf course. It offers a patio, bar, brunch and sporadic entertainment. I would definitely consider going back to experience more of their offerings. read more

We also ordered chips and salsa for the table. the Farmhouse burger had awesome, flavored bacon, and caramelized onions with cheese. I ordered it with the side of sweet potato fries. Then she walked away and discussed us with the manager for quite some time. I had my daughter's Bridal shower here this past weekend. An absolutely wonderful time was had by all. Even better than I had expected. The set up was perfect, with a beautiful view of the golf course. Every bit of the food was amazing. We added the Harvest Display to the brunch menu and it was beautiful to look at and delicious! Held a birthday brunch there for 25 and it was terrific. First of all working with Becky before hand to arrange for the event and work out the details was a real pleasure and very easy. The venue and its ambiance was wonderful with lovely views of the golf course and surrounding hills looking through the room of windows was perfect. The food items on the buffet were well presented, tasty, and plentiful. The service staff were very pleasant and attentive to details and any requests any of our party had during our three hour event. Could not recommend any more highly and without any reservations. We held our FFA Banquet at the Event Tent at the 1741 Pub & Grill and it was AMAZING! The service was outstanding. For example, I learned at the event we had a guest who is allergic to pepper. The chef went out of their way to prepare a delicious hot meal so she would feel welcome. Great communication throughout the entire process (thanks Becky!). The tent was suitable for any event. The supplemental heat was appreciated for the crisp evening. The following day I asked our teens for feedback, it was 100% positive! That is high praise indeed (IYKYK)! Service was super fast and staff was very nice. It wasn't busy as this was lunch on a Friday afternoon. The grilled cheese was by far one of the best I've had. You know me, I'm a sucker for a solid grilled cheese or mac n cheese. This one is one of the best. By far. My mom had the bacon burger, it was great, cooked correctly and filling. We also had the fried lasagna appetizer which was awesome, just like fried raviolis but lasagna. It's a win! Of course the view is beautiful even in the winter! Wish it was possible to give more than 5 stars. Everything was amazing. The service is spot on. Helpful and attentive. Waitress even made my son laugh which is a miracle in itself because he's a teenager I had the apple turkey sandwich (forget the real name) and he had the chicken Caesar wrap. He said it was the best wrap he's ever had which means something because he has one everywhere we go. I always love the turkey sandwich and the house made chips are to die for! We went for the dueling piano show in late August and it was awesome. The food was good, the service was good (considering it was so busy and a sold-out show) and the performers were awesome. I really enjoy seeing the piano show once a year and it's one of the many highlights to summer in CT. We'll definitely be back for the food and other events. read more

I wanted to check this place based on reviews and location as o went to winter lantern event. We stood by the "wait to be seated sign" for a good 10min before anyone acknowledged us though several people walked passed us. After2 different people said they'd be right with us we stood another few minutes. Our issue was honestly not even being acknowledged. The drink was pretty good however I did not enjoy my chicken sandwich. It was supposed to be to be a honey buffalo sandwich but it was straight up buffalo and very strong. Had I know I wouldn't have ordered it. The spinach and artichoke dip was good with the pita chips. My friend enjoyed her burger and fries. The place in general was nice and warm which is appreciated as it was freezing outside. We were out to the Lyman Orchard and looking for lunch. Why not try the 1741? 1741 Pub brings to mind an old tavern. Exposed beams, history, old beer smell. That is not this place. It is a fairly modern clubhouse associated with the golf course. Not a bad thing, just unexpected. We were seated quickly. It is loud in the dining room when full of excitable golfers, but once they left, reasonably quiet. The sever was friendly. The fries were fresh, hot and crispy. Toni's burger was well cooked, but the bottom bun was soggy. My wrap was good, loaded with chicken and blue cheese. Good beer selection. I would go there again if I was at Lyman, but I would not make the trip just to eat there. read more

Third time here, and 3rd time disappointed. Was shut off from liquor at a 4 hour event. After 2 drinks. Waitress, Avery started out nice then said you can wait when we tried to order more drinks. $45 per person and our fun at 8 took a quick down turn. One person in party got buffalo wrap. There was a slight drizzle of buffalo sauce after wrapped, didn't complain. 3 people got gin and tonics. Tonic was either expired or they used club soda. They corrected that. The sad part we told our waitress we tip well, sorry Avery your loss. The waitress avoided our table so we cleared our dishes. In the beginning we asked for a pitcher of water, we were told no, only for sangria. Then we watched 2 carafes of water go to another table. I'm not sure who trains the staff, but you need some consistency. And some better service. We came for a great time, and got let down. read more

I strongly suspect Lyman Orchards is trying to take over Middlefield, perhaps the world. I had to drive through several stores and properties they owned before finding the 1741 Pub and Grill. But, in the middle of the golf course, attached to the pro shop, I found the Pub. The aesthetics are not 1741, but rather modern golf course. They offer reservations online, and also unsurprisingly rent space for parties and events. It was under construction when I dined, so I have hopes for the future. At time of dining, though, the main dining area was open with large windows to watch the golf course, and wow did sound echo. Just children talking like children got loud. Not complaining, they get to eat out too, just a heads up. The waitstaff is very nice and would jump in to help each other with drinks. The food was worth the wait. Although my sandwich didn't look like a classic panini, the apples and avocado perfectly complimented the cheese and turkey. The homemade chips were crunchy and a great alternative from fries. read more

Went on an apparently busy golf day so since we didn't have reservations, they weren't sure they were going to be able to seat us and it looked like there was some sort of event going on in the tent but we did get to sit outside at a table. It was a nice view. The drinks were good and interesting, nice on a hot day. The Brussels sprouts were certainly crispy, more so than we thought they would be, but it was large for an appetizer, we couldn't finish them all. I wish I could give a 4.5! Came here for dinner and music bingo (Thursday nights at 6) for the first time. Food was absolutely amazing I was able to taste the chili the burger and the pulled pork sandwich. All delicious however the pulled pork sandwich would be my go to. The burger was ordered well done which made it a tad on the dry side but it was packed with flavor blue cheese bbq mayo etc. The pulled pork sandwich had this cheese sauce that came with it that I wish I could have bottled up to take home! It was great to dip my fries in as well. The flourless cake is good however I do recommend waiting a little before digging in. It was better at room temp. Our drinks were very good. I was able to sample their signature mule and their berry cocktail. If I had to choose I would go with the mule. They have their Apple cider in it and it just makes it so tasty and unique. My only negative-the house chips were over cooked. They actually tasted burnt. The bingo was so fun! No knowledge is necessary and he advertises it as a brain break. Good music good food a game wonderful staff and a great DJ. No purchase to play but opportunity to win $10 gift cards. It's located on a golf course which makes the scenery beautiful. I wanted to try something different and saw they had live music during brunch so I decided to check it out. The musician was a man playing on the piano, he played a variety of songs which was very enjoyable to listen to, soft, and good background music. The service and the food were excellent. In the fall they have apple pancakes which you must try. They were both flavorful and fluffy, I highly recommend them. We also got the brisket, another pleasant surprise. The meat was very tender and had a great flavor. If you can get multiple dishes and share them to try a little of everything I would recommend it so you don't miss out! It was my first time there but I will definitely return. Looking forward to also trying something from their lunch/dinner menu. Side note, Lyman orchards by far has the best apple cider. read more

We're new to the area, and a friend recommended we stop by 1741. We tried the farmers nachos, the grilled cheese, and the farmhouse burger. Add a couple cocktails, and we had a great lunch overlooking the course. The place was busy, but the staff was efficient and courteous. Food arrived hot and fresh, with some amazing flavors. Came here with a friend for Happy Hour and were completely blown away! We decided to meet here as it was in the middle of both our locations and had heard good things. On weekdays, happy hour goes until 7PM and that worked great with our work schedules. We arrived and requested to sit outside. They didn't have much outdoor seating, only 4 tables, but that could have been because it's a weekday. I have seen other photos where you can sit on the green, so was expecting to see more of that. Hope that's an option on weekends because how gorgeous would that be?! We started off with a couple beers which were $1 off all drafts. We thought the best course of action would be to split a few apps as they were $2 off, great deal! We split the Farmer's Nachos, Warm Salted Pretzels with cheese sauce, and the Parmesan Brussel Sprouts. Okay. Everything was AMAZING. I honestly didn't go in with high hopes, as this is essentially a pub for the Lyman's golf club but WOW. Completely blown away. The brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy and seasoned so well. The pretzels were soft and even if they weren't made in-house, I don't even care...that cheese sauce took them to another level. But I have to give a standing ovation to the nachos. Made with Lyman's homemade potato chips and topped with tons of bacon and cheddar cheese. But the ranch. Definitely homemade and definitely addicting. I kept going back for more. I just searched for the chips drowned in ranch. Dang, I wish I asked for more on the side to dip the rest in. Oh well, that's what next time is for because we'll absolutely be back. read more

My friends and I stood there for 10 minutes on a Monday afternoon, there were 6 people in the restaurant max. The manager was standing at the entrance and said "she (idk who she was referring to, host maybe?) will come seat you soon" and that did not happen. She stood there just on her phone. We entered in a little more to see if the host might not have seen us and she looked at us then back at her phone. 8/2/22 First time dining here, and it won't be the last. Being a restaurant that primarily caters to the Lyman's Golf Course crowd, it's understandably located alongside their clubhouse in a relatively obscure location. I'm having lunch here with an old buddy and I checked Yelp to find a place more or less midway between our homes. The 1741 Pub fit the bill. Upon entering I was greeted by a sweet young woman that let me pick the table I liked. I found one that had very nice views overlooking not only the golf course, but had a commanding view of the surrounding countryside on this beautiful early August day. Lunch was with my old friend Ron D. today, and he selected a Caesar Salad with grilled chicken that looked very fresh and crisp (both the salad & the chicken LOL). He said it was very good. I started with a bowl of their chili that came with nice slices of fresh Jalapeño peppers, a good helping of melted cheddar cheese, & a big dollop of sour cream. I put the pepper slices off to the side because I'm just not crazy about 'em. The chili however was a much larger portion than I expected and was really good. Thick and meaty with just the right proportion of beans. When our server placed the bowl in front of me I said, "I don't think I needed to order a burger too"! It was excellent chili. My cheeseburger was a solid 1/2 pound and cooked just as I prefer them, pink in the middle. A great lunch with a great guy, with spot on service from our adorable server.
