A professional organization I belong to held our first meeting of the year here tonight -it was a hybrid meeting with twenty guests in the dining room and others joining us via a streamed Zoom broadcast. The Back Nine did a very nice job hosting us. It was my first time there and the place was really easy to find- just a few miles down the road from the Westfarms Mall on Route 71. The parking lot entrance was well marked, so you really can't miss the place. Our group dinner consisted of three courses- a dinner salad, a pasta course, and a choice of three entrees- beef, chicken or salmon. My dinner was fine-I thought the pasta and sauce were quite good and the two pieces of chicken were moist and tender. The potatoes, carrots, green beans, and sauce that came with the chicken were all quite good as well. The servers and bartender were friendly, efficient, courteous and professional. All twenty of our entrees came out more or less together and mine was piping hot, so the kitchen did very well tonight. Nice job Back Nine !!

If the Gates of Hell ever ejected a Monday for being even too dastardly for Satin himself it was this past Monday (8/5/2019). I spare you the details, but I would consider myself a WorkFarce Martyr from this Hellacious Day. Needing a quiet spot to lick my wounds I stopped at The Back Nine Tavern for a selfish one-on-one with a good ale. The Tavern has been on my Stop List for a long while. And I reached the end of this "While." Outside, the beautiful 36 hole public golf course, driving range, and it's humble and well kept stone club house (circa 1931). The Tavern on the back side over looking the course. Inside, more stone masonry and elegant arching windows of the day they were installed. At the bar, a few patrons, nearing the days final rounds. Both on the course and at the bar stool. I grab a vacant stool, scope out the room and taps. The barmaid, friendly and patient as I squinted at the twelve taps. She offered a verbal listing then said, "Our best DIPA is the Hooker Tropical Storm." Thumbs up. Quickly a froth tops ale arrived on a coaster along with an appetizer list and menu. Nice mix of choices. I look around again scoping other dishes being eaten. The pizza look awesome, and a few golfers Carbing-Up on burgers and dogs. However, the "Hawg Wings" caught my sufferin' eyes. Another ale ordered along with the Hawg Wings. The ale arrived and in about five minutes the most luscious BBQ'd gooey pork ribs slid in front of me. Celery and a sweetened blue cheese dip accompanied. As I dug into the thick juicy meat and sips of ale, the Evil from Day slithered its way back into its lava tube...without me! What an excellent reset in a magical setting. Much appreciated Bac

Your average golf course restaurant but with additional outdoor seating because you know....that new normal. However there is like one table in an awful spot. Awful view, dead grass, right on the side of tbe building below the stairs and kinda in a corner. I felt like I was in the hood compared to everyone else while at this table but hey a table is a table. Either way I still ended up moving to a better one haha. Anyways I was able to try their wings and what can I say? They were absolutely delicious. Ordered the Asian Cowboy Wings and the Honey Mustard Wings. The honey mustard was not overly sweet in any sense and the asian cowboy wings had an amazing sweetness with a nice kick to it. The wings themselves were meaty and cooked nicely. The blue cheese had nice chunks of cheese which went well with the celery sticks. Service was fairly quick and very friendly! Only thing I'd give a heads up on is if you sit at the tables below the deck the mosquitoes start biting when it gets dark. Like really bad. Solid spot we have here whether it be the move post golfing or just to stop in and have a nice meal outside.

I didn't know that there was a restaurant at this golf course so close to the Costco's in New Britain! There is plenty of outdoor seating so for health reasons this is a great place for gatherings. The patio is humongous and you overlook the golf course. It is a lunch menu with plenty of sandwiches, pizza, and burgers. I would come here if you have a big group or you want to be outdoors. There was no shortage of tables on Sunday at 12.

The view of the 18th hole is perfect. The food was delicious. Portions were large, that salad could have fed 2 people! The veal meat balls come as 2 and they are as big as a softball. Wait staff was pleasant felt like we got a little lost towards the end of our dinner because they were busy. We'd definitely go back.

Came for work lunch. Situated on a super nice golf course. The waitress was so nice and sweet. But the food was great. I got the Turkey club with sweet potato fries. It was the perfect amount of Mayo, crispy smoky bacon and Turkey. The bread was toasted lightly. And those fries... I'd go back for those alone. Really great food, will definitely go back when I visit for work. Amazing.

Ate in the bar area, but if it was a little warmer we definitely would have dined on their deck-so nice and such a nice view! Appetizer: fried mozzarella (great). Entree: philly cheesesteak and fries (okay). Dessert: snickers pie (good). Really great location, ample parking. No wait and busy but kind staff!

You almost forget you're in inner city new Britain while you're here! This restaurant sits on a lovely golf course and provides quite the view whether you're seated inside or out. We sat outdoors and it was amazing! The drinks were great, blended to perfection and the food was awesome. I would definitely come back again!

Lots of good options on the menu, clean and well decorated, and our party of 6 was immediately sat at 6 on a Saturday night. Service was very slow and the food came out in waves. The waitress said they got slammed and while it had gotten busier, they seemed like they were filled a normal amount and let's be honest it was a Saturday night, it's when a restaurant should be at its busiest. We had a number of mehs about the food but these were the main ones. My mom's salmon salad came out significantly after everyone else's and included a few items she'd asked for on the side. She did say the salmon itself was excellent. My wife and I both ordered truffle fries but neither came with them (not sure if we were charged or not). I'd ordered a side of blackberry bbq sauce that sounded excellent but it never materialized and it seemed too bothersome to ask. My Bodega Chopped Cheese sandwich was absolutely terrible. I can allow for some creative freedom in cooking but it was terrible execution. A dry hamburger patty cooked in full cut into a few chunks, and thrown on a massive roll with a slice of raw cheese over it. I've been wanting to try these for years and there were no photos of this dish on here, had I seen it I would have ordered something else. Maybe we caught them on a bad night or ordered wrong and I hate leaving negative reviews, but I don't think I'll be coming back.

The people next to us got some sliders that looked tasty so I'd like to try those also. No complaints so far!

Parking fills up on popular nights. They seemed very understaffed, with only 1-2 bartenders for a packed outdoor area. The kitchen did not seem to be able to keep up with the demand, though I do feel like we should've been warned that food would take an hour when ordering if it were that backed up. I went back to check on my food twice , the second time being at an hour and 15 minutes since I placed the order , with people who ordered after both getting their food first and finishing before I received mine at all. After I finally got my food I had to wait additionally to ask for condiments and waited 10 minutes after asking the bartender if I could close my card while others who came after me both ordered more drinks and paid first. Unfortunately, the overall experience has gone downhill. During our most recent visit, the bartender called me names, and the owner's son -- who was clearly intoxicated -- was extremely rude. Mind you, we are very generous tippers and have been coming here for over 10 years. When we were cashing out we heard the bartender say "I'm going to charge her card for a 20% tip" It was disappointing and uncomfortable to say the least. It's also very concerning how often visibly intoxicated customers are overserved and then allowed to drive away. It doesn't feel safe or responsible. I won't be giving them my business again anytime soon, I highly suggest you order food to-go or find another restaurant.

So, when I clicked into Sally's website, I was bowled over to see they now have SEVEN locations with ELEVEN more on the way, including Garden City, NY and Boca Raton, FL. That's pretty impressive. Sally's thin crust New Haven style pizza is a state treasure and I've always enjoyed it wherever I've had it. And today, I had a few slices of their fantastic pizza in a new location for us -inside the West Farms Mall near Jordan's Furniture of all places. Our lunch experience was great, starting with Bianca...our exceptional server. She was so outgoing and attentive, and checked back on us three times without ever being intrusive or an annoyance. We had a simple lunch, splitting a salad and a ten-inch pizza. The Wedge Salad ($14.75) was a big portion of three big iceberg lettuce wedges, charred tomato, Grana Padano cheese, crispy pepperoni, red onion, and a creamy Italian ranch dressing. We decided to skip the grilled bread croutons. What a nice salad! Super fresh lettuce, tasty tomatoes, a healthy sprinkle of pepperoni crisps that reminded me of crumbled bacon, and a great creamy dressing. Our 10" pizza (also $14.75) came with two toppings and we added meatballs and onions. It was thin crust New Haven style perfection. The sauce, the cheese, the cardboard thin crust, the toppings -everything was great. Late in our meal, a young father and his son came in and sat down in front of us. The boy seemed to be 5 or 6. Bianca impressed me again with the way she interacted with the boy, engaging him in conversation, and just being so nice and sweet with him. Well done, Bianca, Well done, Sally's.

I'm conflicted on this 2/5 rating since I wish there was a 2.5/5 option here. There are some promising things about Frank Pepe's: a coal-fired oven, photos of the same white clam pizza I ordered that look more like pizzas I had in Italy than the one I got, and other options for toppings that might work out better. Perhaps asking for light garlic and maybe the addition of the calabrian chilies from the seasonal special pizza (or pickled jalapeños, if available) would've fixed the balance (and topping palatability) of this pizza. A different pizza also may be substantially tastier, but goshdarnit, we're close enough to the ocean that I'd like to think the white clam is a slam-dunk. It's even listed in neon in the window! As ordered, unchanged, off the menu, though, I feel like I need to leave this state for a pizza just to feel something. Connecticut calling itself "the pizza state" has thus far been a lie; a cruel joke wherein a few outstanding outliers try to gloss over the fact that most of the state's pizza is mid-to-bad. "Mystic Pizza" being one of the state's most famous audiovisual exports sort of fits given that the availability of standout pizza here appears to be a mystical unicorn I've yet to find after moving here last year. Pepe's gets serious props for using large chunks of clams that don't look like the typical, uniformly cut, restaurant-supply-can chunks, but they were a bit rubbery and almost completely drowned out by the amount of garlic. It's like they were cooked too long, and the moisture from the clams evaporated accordingly. The crust had a little crunch to it as well, but lacked the crispy bubbles and heavier charred spots I expect from this style of pizza and from the assorted menu photos. Either go foldable or go harder on the fire--anywhere in between lands in disappointment territory. Commit to a bit. $8 a pint is a bit much for basic beer selections like Sam Adams and Peroni, too, but that's sort of my least concern. We live in Hell where everything is expensive lately, and at least beer prices haven't shot up as badly as gas prices. I probably should've ordered the sangria in hindsight. White peach? Here for it. Also, the staff was friendly, and service was prompt. I really should give it a second chance with a more traditional tomato-sauce pizza, or maybe a margherita. If you go, expect it to fall short of the hype unless whoever made the nicely bubbly white clam pie in the photos posted here is manning the oven. Unless you like garlic as much as I like cheese, consider asking to go light on the garlic for a better-balanced pizza if you order this one.
