I have been to Beachland Tavern twice. Once, I met friends for a drink during Happy Hour. More recently, I visited to try the famous Kitchen Sink wings. This review is based upon both those experiences. I'll start with the wings. People have been telling me for years that I needed to try the Kitchen Sink wings at Beachland Tavern . I finally made it, and I'm legit mad at myself for waiting. The Kitchen Sink wings are one of my favorite new-to-me flavors in recent years. They give you an option of a smoked wing or a more traditional wing prep. I couldn't resist the smoked, and you really tasted the smoke flavor. I assume they finished them in the fryer because the wings still had a good outer texture. The sauce was tangy, with a bit of heat and a bit of sweet. Amazing. They'll tell you the components of the Kitchen Sink sauce if you ask, but I don't want to ruin it for people who may want to guess. Don't wait like I did. When I went for a drink at Happy Hour, I had a good time with my friends. It wasn't especially busy. Also, I didn't think they had a top tier craft beer selection. I loved the wings. Found this through yelps 5star recommendations. Glad we did. Ambience is comfy, casual with a warm vibe throughout the restaurant. We ordered the kitchen sink wings to start. They were absolutely the most tender buffalo wings I've ever eaten in my entire life! The flavors were amazing! I'm already craving them. My husband ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich With sweet potato fries. Fries or crispy and delicious sandwich was huge enough for another meal. I ordered a small steak salad cooked medium. It was cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that balsamic dressing was very oily and did not give much flavor to the salad. Beachland Tavern also has a great wine selection. It was a quiet evening around 6 pm. The menu goes from pub food to full restaurant entrees. My burger was cooked perfectly and I added sweet potato fries instead of regular fries. The burger was not drippy even with the carmelized onions cheese, tomato and lettuce. The choc. Bomb was amazing and the cheese cake was so delicious. The service was efficient and not obtrusive! My mouth is so sad. Was told this place was known for their Kitchen Sink wings. Let's start by saying the wings were so incredibly small I feared I wasn't eating chicken. The signature Kitchen Sink sauce was off/putting and tasted like it had literally been concocted from the leftover food floating in the dishwater. Also ordered cheese fries (which the server forgot). When they finally came out they were hot and fresh but tasted like they'd dumped garlic salt on them. The cheese was tasteless plastic and there was about 4 jalapeños which I paid extra for. These were so disgusting I just left 5/6 of the plate uneaten. When I left I had the most disgusting residue left in my mouth. Like I was literally driving back to my hotel trying to wipe my tongue off to get the taste to go away. If you are ever fooled into going here, go next door to Frank Pepe's instead and save yourself the trouble. PS. I have been here twice recently . Once for dinner with family, once for lunch with friends. Not great food. No lunch menu. I think maybe for bar food, it may be ok. My salmon sandwich for lunch was really good but the chicken sliders my friend ordered had to be sent back. Chicken was so tough she couldn't cut it and it was wet inside. Not sure how that happens. My husband had the tenderloin special which was excellent. I had steak salad. I ordered medium rare and got cold cooked to death steak. I would have sent it back but there were too many of us and didn't want to burden the server. We won't be back though. read more

Lunch - stopped at Beachland Tavern around 1:00 on a Saturday. Expected a busier place than what we encountered - I think only 2 other tables were occupied besides us. So, I had misgivings & considered leaving. However we stayed & it was good. The interior was a lot of dark wood & had a good sized bar on one side with high top tables. We opted for a comfortable booth on the other side. Our server was very nice & brought whatever condiments we asked for. Food - I had a grilled chicken sandwich & my husband had a burger. $15. I got the French fries & he got onion rings. The chicken & burger were really good. Had that nice grilled flavor. The fries & onion rings were good too, but I could guess that they were probably that restaurant depot frozen stuff that gets heated in the restaurant. So, I wouldn't make a special trip to go there, but if I was in the area, it was - good solid place to eat. read more

The Brooklyn was really good. Any place not dedicated to smoked meats that can pull off good smoked meat must be doing something right.

Hands down the BEST "smoked wings" ...that's all you need to know. Their signature dish kitchen sink wings has people coming back again and again. A classic American fare with a casual bar... happy hour Sunday, all day. Cozy interiors... I prefered sitting at the bar area than the dining room... just more light and airy. Everything I had was super delicious!! Priced right.. they have a great selection of beer on tap. The wings are out of the world ... I went with the classic Buffalo sauce (hottest on the menu) ....smoked and literally falls off the bone. It was the first time I ate them all and I ate them clean. The Buffalo sauce was homemade, had a good flavor to it. Highly recommended!! I skipped the main and dove straight into desserts, warm apple pie with a scoop of vanilla, was a sinful way to end the evening but I am not guilty of it!! It was soooooo gooodddd!! Some other dishes that caught my attention were..the Irish Nachos a Gaelic take on the Mexican standard. Smoked brisket and sliced potatoes are substituted for the usual ground meat and tortilla chips. Crispy Spinach and Artichoke Won-ton and Buffalo Fried Ribs. For those who want something more than an appetizer, there are salads, sandwiches, burger, pastas, and meat and fish entrees.Their salmon sandwich with the mango chutney and avocado....I was told is very good! Went on a Friday night, and the bar area was pretty packed, which was a good sign. Service was a little slow; it seemed like they were short staffed. We waited a few minutes before a hostess showed up to greet us. Once we sat down, it took another 10 minutes or so for a waiter to come to our table. Again, they did seem understaffed, and the place was pretty busy. Food: Cesar salad 7/10 - enough dressing, croutons Cup of New England Clam Chowder 4/10 This was super salty. Smoked honey chipotle wings 10/10 - You could taste the smokiness, The flavor was delicious, and the wings were cooked to perfection Blackened ribeye w/green beans & twice baked potato 8.5/10 - The flavor on the ribeye was amazing! The green beans, although not seasoned, had a smokey flavor, and the twice baked potato was yummy. Steak tips Risotto 9/10 This was absolutely scrumptious! I'm not a big Yelp review person, though I do frequent many restaurants in the Greater Hartford/New Haven, saving I'm not a novice when it comes to dining out. I brush mediocre food/service to maye an off night for the establishment. But my experience Thursday night was beyond the pale of not good. The owner of Beachland tavern has been in the restaurant business for a long time and I am really surprised at what occurred Thursday night. I met friends, party of 9 on 2/12 at 6 pm. Table set up, we were seated behind another large party. Our waitress, took our drink orders. A good twenty minutes went by before our drinks arrived. Yes, the restaurant was full, so not her fault. She was unable to give us water. She said they ran out of glasses. Really? How does that happen? If our waitress, cleared our table of glasses, maybe someone could have washed them and filled with water. We ordered another round of drinks. I ordered a burger, medium rare. It come well done. Second round of drinks never came. I canceled my drink order. Waitress came with drinks, and said they were already made and they were on the house. Our table was never cleaned off after dinner. Tired of looking at the dirty dishes, we cleared them ourselves. Our waitress was definitely overwhelmed. We asked for the check, drinks were on the check, she removed the drinks. I realize many of the snafus...long drink wait, no glasses, overcooked burgers were out of the control of the waitress. But bussing the tables WAS in her control and just didn't happen. 3.5 stars I got the salmon burger and it was pretty good! Perfectly cooked and I liked the topping combination. Got a side of Mac and cheese which I didn't love. I prefer creamier Mac and cheese, and it was a very thick/cheese-like texture instead. The rest of my table seemed to love it though. read more

How have I not done a review yet? You know how many times I've checked in here? This is one of my favorite local restaurants, I mean their food and Happy Hour is amazing! I've been there twice with others who didn't love their meals, but honestly they ordered things I'd never order so they need to make better decisions! Ok, one was Blackened Chicken Alfredo and it was just spicier than she was expecting and maybe spicier than she likes, so if you like spice maybe it's amazing, but I don't eat Alfredo anything so I didn't try it. Back to what I do love and have eaten numerous times, their wings!!!! OMG, sure you can get them fried, but literally everyone has fried wings, so please get the fall off the bone smoke wings! You really can't go wrong with any flavor (try the kitchen sink), though there aren't many flavors to try. Another of my favorite appetizers is their Chicken Quesadilla, so full of good stuff! It's not one of those thing quesadillas with only cheese and a couple pieces of chicken, it's filling and delicious!!! They also have literally my favorite Seared Salmon Sandwich! I've had many salmon sandwiches, and this one is amazing! A bit messy, but who cares when you're eating perfection? Another thing I love is that there is NO UPCHARGE when you swap the fries for asparagus or sweet potato fries, or any of their other sides! This is the way it should be!!! I've also tried several of their salads and they're amazing as well! Lots of good stuff in them and a good amount of protein when you add it, or order a salad that comes with protein already. I've tried some of their specials and they've always been good. You really just can't go wrong! Of course some days service is better than others, but it's never been awful and you generally get what you need when you need it, but sometimes you're not checked on as often as you'd like when you need more water or something. But generally, staff are attentive and take care of you. There are a few places that have all day Sunday Happy Hour, and this is one of them! You really just can't go wrong here. I think they have decent beer on tap too, though I'm not a beer drinker, so don't go by me. The bar always seems pretty full and people here are happy! Give it a try if you haven't yet! read more

I have been a patron of Beachland Tavern for many years. They always had the best, freshest salads with numerous choices. On a recent visit, the lettuce was brown and the accompanying burger, ordered medium, was akin to a hockey puck. I called the restaurant and they kindly issued a gift card for the inedible meal. Today I went to redeem the gift card and was surprised (and saddened) to see the new sign on the door, increasing the prices on this neighborhood treasure by 4% for using a credit card. I explained to the manager that I had a gift card (actually I had two) and that gift cards should be considered cash. I was told that gift cards are the same as credit cards and an additional 4% would be added to the bill for its use! Sad to say, my relationship with this local tavern has ended. I am a frequent diner, going to restaurants several times a week. There are too many great places in the west of Hartford area to enjoy without going through the hassle, the meal interruption, and the inconvenience. Breaking up is hard to do! Cant beleive I haven't rated this one yet ! We go there a lot, the dirt wings and chicken tenders are delicious and what keep us coming back. Yesterday hubby and I tried the eggplant tower which was not bad . Think fried goodness with cheese and a tummy green sauce. Love that they have a little parking area. Love the menu choices and diversity. Love the drafts selections. However, consistency see that the fizz in their soda or gin and tonic for example is lacking! (Last visited October 10, 2021.) That really doesn't matter because I'm in here quite often. Lol. I feel bad for being so late to review this place, but my OCD doesn't allow me to, but today, that changes! I'm here to tell you why I love this place AND why I filmed a video here! Atmosphere/Appearance: Like it says in the name, this place is a really laid-back, chill, mellow tavern. The restaurant isn't the biggest, but that's okay. There's quite a bit of seating outside for the warmer months and quite a big bar area as well complete with high-tops, booths as well as a lengthy bar rail. Beyond the bar area is a more "official-looking" dining room that's made up of booths with traditional tables in the center. It's never really too loud or rowdy in here, one of the reasons why I like it. Service: We've been taken care of by quite a few people here and they've all been pretty awesome. I'm going to shout out Catnis, Kristen and Amy. I appreciate you all for always taking care of my crew whenever we come in! Food: Once I found out they had smoked wings here, I kinda stuck to that section of the menu. Lol. They can fry your wings traditionally, but why waste wings frying them?! GET THEM SMOKED! They are incredible! I've also had everything single flavor they offer (mild Buffalo, hot Buffalo, BBQ, sweet garlic chili, honey mustard, honey chipotle and kitchen sink) with kitchen sink being my favorite next to their hot buffalo then honey chipotle. They can do no wrong here! The meat falls right off of the bone! The fried is good too, don't get me wrong, but smoked is the way to go. Value: I can't really put a dollar figure on this place because the prices seem to rise and fall due to the market, especially within the last 2 years, BUT what I WILL say is to come during happy hour! You will get a NICE deal. I can't remember the happy hour times during the week, but I do know we've come many times on Sunday and happy hour lasts the entire day... or until 7:00pm. Lol. I just can't remember right now. My bad. In conclusion, this is one of my go-to places to hang out and grab some amazing wings. Went to Beachland Tavern on a weeknight and was thoroughly disappointed by the food. We were promptly seated and received a menu. Our sever was lovely and attentive, but could tell they were stretched thin. The appetizers we ordered were ok, but left a lot to be desired. They were cold s slightly stale. The entrees were a tremendous disappointment. We ordered some of the fish and chips and received a generous portion. However, the fish was largely inedible as the breading was soggy without any crisp and chewy. We were expecting more for the 150 dollar bill. We used to frequent this restaurant and were thoroughly disappointed when we revisited. read more

I'd never been here before, thinking it was probably outdated. I had lunch today and it was excellent. The menu isn't overly imaginative but it is up to date, which felt just right. I had the Caesar salad with salmon. The dressing was homemade and the salmon was huge and cooked just right. This was my first time trying beachland tavern and was really pleased with the whole experience. I had heard about the famous kitchen sink wings so we started with those and they were truthfully phenomenal. fell right off the bone, super smoky and had crazy flavor. we also got sandwiches that were all very good. the tap list was very small, nothing super special for cocktails. The wings were definitely the star of the show Service was good, all the food came out hot. everything was reasonably priced as well. The place was clean, lots of seating. Stopped in for a birthday dinner with family. Was able to make a reservation before heading in which made it easy as it was a busy Saturday night. Seated quickly we peruse the menu with their nighty specials. We decided to grab some drinks, apps and a meal for our night at Beachland Tavern. I ordered a Jalapeño Gimlet while my dad and uncle enjoy some local CT beers on draft. The drink had some heat to it but wasn't overbearing while you can never go wrong with a nice cold beer. We opted for the kitchen sink wings and the eggplant tower for the table. The kitchen sink wings were drenched in sauce and were crispy and juicy. Should have opted for two platters but with the eggplant tower competing for our attention it was a tie for our taste buds. The tower was layered well with fried eggplant, tomatoes and thick cut of mozzarella. It made for a nice contract in each bite. I chose the meatloaf dinner for my entrée. It has delicious smooth mash potatoes with spinach in it. While the meatloaf on top and it's gravy just cover the plate in some much flavor. Didn't get a chance to try everyone's food but based on the empty plates at the end of the meal we were all pretty satisfied with our meal. read more

Our second visit, most recently as a second choice when a first, trendier establishment, required an hour wait. It's off the main, beaten path of WeHa stream, where many locals found are more comfortable to frequent. The bar always a happy place and the seasonal outdoor seating and enhancement. The kitchen serves up reasonably priced comfort food. In our side booth, my adult family enjoyed the following: Shrimp Risotto ($19 including lunch for the next day), Chicken Parmesan ($18 enough to feed a family, but lunch to be had), a Seared Salmon with Avocado and a mild Mango Chutney ($14 with no survivors), and The Brooklyn - Smoked Beef Brisket, Cheddar, Coleslaw, and a Garlic infused Mayo (Oh my! Superior Comfort and NO SURVIVORS!!) They could have been five stars, but the dining room gives me the willies, too wide open, too high, too bright, and doesn't offer that warm Tavern feel. We had a really great experience on our first visit. We were a bit ahead of the dinner rush so we got seated immediately. We started with the smoked wings (thanks to the other yelpers who mentioned those!) and then both ordered entrees. We really enjoyed our food and liked the 'local bar' atmosphere. Last night my husband and I went to this place for supper. The food was horrible. My husband had a dish that was disgusting and I had a chicken sandwich and I told the waitress that I did no want it deeply fried, it was very fried. He then asked for a hamburger to be cooked medium and it turned out to be burnt. He felt bad for me and I ate it. The only thing that was good were the French fries. The drinks were watered down also. The only thing that was good about the place was the service of a waitress called Erin. She was very good so we gave her a $10.00 tip. The manager only charged $6.00 for the whole dinner. Originally the price was $50.00. We will never ever go back there again. Yucky. Just horrible. read more

Me and my family ate here for St. Patrick's Day, one of the busiest day of the year at Beachland Tavern. We arrived around 5:30 pm and they were able to seat 5 of us. We had great service, and great food. It was a lively and festive environment. I highly recommend the corned beef hash egg rolls and the eggplant tower! read more

Ugh the kitchen sink wings may be my death row meal if I had to have one - they are SO SO amazing. Crispy and the sauce is perfect. For apps the steak crostini is pretty good too.. Also, I have had overall good meals there but some have been slightly disappointing. The strawberry walnut salad is a nice healthy choice but my favorite is a sandwich that doesn't seem to be on the menu anymore... Their special of the arancini were spectacular- it's confounding how between one week for the same price they served 3 balls and 2 the next though. Their drinks are strong, not hugely or well balanced in flavor. The portions on all the entrees are generous, and the service is consistently good to great. Their smoked wings with the house sauce (kitchen sink type deal) is supposedly blow-your-socks-off-amazing, but I personally didn't love them, just because I like dry rubs and they didn't seem to have any offerings.
