I absolutely adore the ambience of this restaurant. It is an old home that has a lot of character and charm and the decor makes you feel like you're inside somebody's personal living room and I just love that. Unfortunately, the tables and chairs were all rather rickety, and we had to fuss around with a wooden wedge with our table to try and keep it balanced, and also a nail on one of the chairs was poking through. The food was fresh and very yummy , I personally do not eat a lot of Vietnamese food, so I was not aware that pho is a rather sweet broth. Just a heads up for anybody who sees the beef so and thinks it's going to be savory. The fried dumplings were delicious! And the chicken satay tasted great as well

While in Old Saybrook a few days ago, my friend and I were looking for a place to get lunch. We came across Saigon City, a Vietnamese restaurant. It looks like a house, and if the GPS didn't bring us here, we wouldn't know it's a restaurant. They have a little area for outdoor seating, and some front yard decor. We stepped inside and found it covered in faux plants everywhere. There was also a piano and a few motorcycles in their dining area. They have a large menu standing on the floor. They want you to order the food before you sit. This place is so backwards. So we ordered a Chicken Pad Thai to share. They also don't provide you with water, despite dining in. They sell a small bottle of water for $2.00. This was very strange. We sat at a table by the window. We were the only ones dining here. I noticed the dining room was very filthy. Tables were dirty, with finger marks and crumbs, there was thick dust on the windows. Spiderwebs and dust under the chairs. The funny thing was they had a sign "Please keep our dining room clean." Our Chicken Pad Thai arrived very quickly. It was hot, packaged in a to go container. Another turn off. We're obviously sitting down, why is our food packaged to go? We got styrofoam plates, and plastic silverware. The Chicken Pad Thai, was ok. I've certainly had better, and a more generous serving. The chicken was very tender, the peanut sauce was very light. I'd say the meal it's self was just fine. The presentation and everything else was absolutely awful. We went up to the counter to pay. I'm very confused by this place. Despite the Pad Thai being fine, I would absolutely never dine here again. The waitress, she might be the manager or owner, wasn't friendly or inviting. They don't provide water. Their space is very cluttered and very filthy. Order before you sit, puts you under pressure and I didn't like it. There are so many better places for dining in Old Saybrook. I'd for sure skip this place.

I've been a few times now because there's so many good things to try!! It has an interesting/delicious Vietnamese/Thai combo. The atmosphere is also adorable- very well decorated! The couple that owns it is adorable too :)

Honey-ginger-lemon tea is not too sweet--a cup of love and good health!

We stopped on a cold, snowy day and the pho and spring rolls were amazing!!! Authentic and fresh and just the right combination of sweet, lime, and spicy--comfort food! And the owners are so kind! I strongly recommend stopping. Yum!

The food is really good. The pho is tasty .... Not overbearing. Dumplings are perfect size. Somewhat pricey for the portions and location being in Old Saybrook, CT.

    Chicken Pad Thai bento $12

Ugly and creepy looking interior but the food was great. Ordered the chicken Pad Thai bento which came with white rice, sliced spring rolls, cucumber tomato salad and 3 slices of orange. The Pad Thai had perfect heat flavor except it was a teeny weeny bit sweet. I asked for a lime slice, squeezed the juice out and mixed it all together. That did the trick! Easily one of the top 5 Pad Thai's I've ever had. My nephew ordered a green Thai curry. I'm usually not a fan of Thai curries but this one surprised me, it actually had flavor! It wasn't overwhelming heavy with the coconut milk. The host who was also the waiter was friendly. Food came out in less than 10 minutes. Check out the pics and video I posted. Tip: The waiter confirmed this place is more of a Vietnamese restaurant but the menu only offers 1 type of pho. No banh mi either. Still confused ...

I'm a huge fan of Thai food for its signature zest. Tamarind, lemongrass, kaffir lime, coconut, hot curries, and sweet/spicy/salty combos really awaken the senses and make me feel alive. When this representation of Thai cuisine is misleading, it makes me sad. Saigon City is average, but hs the potential for improvement. I've been here twice, and both times I was bright eyed and bushy tailed over the excitement for Thai. Both times I thought I was going elsewhere and ended up here (by fate? who knows). Both times I left full, with a less than jazzed dining companion, and yearning for what I've come to know Thai food really is. First time I came with my husband, who ordered the Steak Pho, and I ordered the Curried stir fry. The pho was near inedible, over seasoned and noxiously reeking of star anise, and was so overwhelmingly flavorful that literally nothing in the soup was salvageable. It permeated the noodles, veggies, and beef alike, and made them all carpeted in this heavy flavor. My curry veggies had bell peppers, despite specifically asking for them to hold them back, but otherwise was decent but nothing special. On the return trip with my mom, we both ordered the Thai Bento boxes, which had chicken pad thai, fruit, fried spring rolls, a salad, and white rice. This was about $11/pp, which I think is ridiculous because the small portion of pad thai, although amazing was the only thing worth eating in the whole mess. The reason I give them two stars when this dining experience was very much a one star both times, is because I believe with a little tweak of the spice hand, and a little more lean on traditional flavors, this place could be fantastic. I know they also opened a gelato shop on site too with Thai Boba and other hot weather favorites, but in the meantime they should work on the product they already have, before expanding their enterprise.

We went for the lunch special which had two options: $12 lunch with choice of appetizers & main or $15 lunch which is the same as the $12 option but just includes a choice of drink. We both got Vietnamese Coffee. I got the iced and she got the hot version. The iced Vietnamese coffee is already premixed, but the hot version they give a side of the condensed milk so you can add as much or little you want. I tried their spring rolls which had a nice crisp bite. It was also served with pickled daikon and carrots for a nice refresher. For the entree I got the pho bo vein which had beef meatballs as the protein. The basil, jalapeño slices, bean sprouts and lime slice are on the side, so you can add as much to your liking. The noodles were nice and bouncy. The broth was light and flavorful. We always have great service every time we go. Definitely will be back in the future.

Even though they've since closed their first location, they still serve one of the best meals I could ever want. They had expanded into 257 Asylum Street, still connected to their business in Ann Uccello where they have always operated the kitchen. You might be able to see the chef in action through the glass window. I've been told that this expanded section used to be a salon. The cool light fixtures used to be above where the pedicure station was and also another reason there is a sink on the main floor. This is not quite a wait-on-you type of restaurant. You place an order through the kiosks on the wall and service staff will provide it to you when it's ready. It would be the same thing if you'd like any additions, in exception to condiments which are on the table. There is a water dispenser available for self service and a sink is nearby to wash your hands, as well as where you can place your dishes when finished similar to cafes. My go-to is always their Dry Noodle. The Daikon Bowl is probably my second favorite. I usually look out for their specials. It's too bad they do not offer the same item too often. It's simply too good! They also serve delicious refreshments that I forget to take photos of! Till next time!
