Came to Lau Vietnamese with a friend who lives local to the area. My friend who's admitted she's picky on food raved about this place. We went for the lunch special which had two options: $12 lunch with choice of appetizers & main or $15 lunch which is the same as the $12 option but just includes a choice of drink. We both got Vietnamese Coffee. I got the iced and she got the hot version. The iced Vietnamese coffee is already premixed, but the hot version they give a side of the condensed milk so you can add as much or little you want. I tried their spring rolls which had a nice crisp bite. It was also served with pickled daikon and carrots for a nice refresher. For the entree I got the pho bo vein which had beef meatballs as the protein. The basil, jalapeño slices, bean sprouts and lime slice are on the side, so you can add as much to your liking. The noodles were nice and bouncy. The broth was light and flavorful. We always have great service every time we go. Definitely will be back in the future. read more

I stopped in here for lunch and while the food tasted good, service was kind and attentive, and the ambiance was calm and modern, I cannot recommend this spot after finding a moldy jalapeño in my sandwich. I did not notice until I was mostly complete with my sandwich, but luckily did not bite into the pepper before noticing the fuzz growing on it. However, you can clearly see the fuzzy pepper in the picture I took before digging in. I got the lunch special, which features a drink, app, and entree. The lemonade was nice and fresh tasting, the crispy wings were fantastic, and the banh mi was actually very tasty. Not the best I've had, but it was flavorful and the pickled veggies tasted fresh. I was very disappointed to find a moldy pepper, which ultimately ruined the experience for me. Hopefully, nothing I actually ate was bad, and this pepper was the only one that went missed in a kitchen check. This is by far the best Pho on Long Island I have had. They also have lunch or dinner specials combos. We also got for their dinner specials 1 appetizer, 1 entrée, 1 dessert for $39. After seeing rave reviews and getting coupons in the mail I was really excited to try this place, but after coming for dinner last week I left with mixed feelings, more bad than good. First, as advertised their prices are very good. They have a set of daily specials, and a very generous student discount (with ID) for the stony Brook students in the area. Additionally the menu is very large, and they seem to have all of the classic Vietnamese dishes plus some different/fusion items. However, there seems to be a cleanliness issue that was apparent right as we sat down. The place settings have plastic placemats with glasses sitting upside down on top. When the server flipped our glasses and filled them with water, I raised one to my mouth and immediately noticed a really disgusting smell... (like feet or a ball pit??) that pretty much turned my stomach. We discovered it was coming from the placemats, that clearly aren't washed or replaced after people spill fish sauce and pho broth on them. We ordered some drinks to start: a Vietnamese iced coffee and a Thai iced tea. The latter was nice, very aromatic and flavorful, and not too sweet. The coffee didn't come close to how good a Viet iced coffee should be. It had a strange aftertaste, and weird flakes of solidified/curdled milk floating on top. The food was decent, but nothing really stood out for us. I got the pork and pork spring roll Bun dish, and was disappointed to find that the bean sprouts were not fresh; the tips were brown and they tasted old. There was also only one spring roll which was cold in the middle, but the sliced grilled pork tasted good, so at least there was that. Also the fish sauce with spicy peppers, garlic, and onions was off to the side in a bottle, not served on top. We were looking for soup, and decided on Pho. We usually go to Saigon Casa in Port Jeff, but we were coming from some massage therapy in Melville and we wanted it sooner than later. A quick google search led to Lâu, whose location seemed familiar. I had been to Soul Brew next door, but never to the Hibachi place that used to occupy this space. Nevertheless, it was pho that we were after, and this was the closest and highest-rated. There's lots of parking, and it was quite spacious and clean inside. There's a full bar and table seating, as well as booths along the wall. We saw a sign upon entering that mentioned membership, and I wanted to know what that was about. We were greeted right away, and were given our choice of seating. We chose a comfy booth. I noticed right away that there were 2 prices on the menu, a regular price and a VIP price. It was explained to me later that the VIP price reflected a discount if you paid with their reloadable gift card which gave you a bonus right off the bat. After the summer roll appetizers, I knew we would be coming back so I sprang for membership and the discount would be available to use right away. The summer rolls were pretty big, and they were served with a very nice peanut sauce. Pineapple shrimp fried rice needs no explanation except that this shrimp needs an honorable mention. This wasn't just shrimp that was thrown in the rice, this was cooked and seasoned separately and served on top. It was fantastic. A little side note, the summer rolls and fried rice had slivers of mango. Yum. Now the pho. I love the pho at Saigon Casa. I think it's perfect as-is. Lâu's beef bone broth isn't as flavor-packed from the get-go, but is easily elevated with the hoisin, chili sauce, sriracha, and fish sauce provided. The noodles are as great, the provided sprouts, jalapeños, and basil were fresh and fragrant, as you would expect. I had the pho with beef eye round and beef tendon, and it was loaded with big pieces of it. More than at any other pho restaurant I've been to, and I enjoyed every bit of it. My girlfriend had the pho with marinated ribeye steak that came on the side. I would come back just to have that steak as a meal (good thing I got the membership card). We took home a pandan and coconut drink for the road, I think some coconut rum would make it amazing read more

The soup had flavor but lacked depth. The spring roll was actually good, highly recommend. Our oyster rolls came out undercooked in my opinion. Upon first bite, we had to spit it out immediately. There was a weird chalky after taste. After observing the insides, it seemed like the chalky(uncooked flour after taste?) taste mightve been due to the inside batter not being cooked fully. We came to this conclusion because after confronting the server, we recieved a new one cooked well done. The inside of the new batch was chewy with no chalky after taste. I was really excited to see a new Vietnamese spot come to the area considering there's only really one or two main ones I go to. First thing I noticed was the menu prices, but thought I'd give them a shot regardless. Large interior with ample seating inside. All food reviewed below was takeaway. -Pineapple chicken fried rice: 3/5, figured this would've been served in a pineapple like the menu pic but it wasn't. It was a sliced chicken breast on top of (relatively bland) fried rice in a Togo box. Flavor was lacking and we were a bit let down with this one. -Steak bahn mi: 3/5, not bad but definitely didn't hold a flame to the bahn mi's I get at the other Vietnamese spot in stony Brook. At $16 I was expecting more, but was let down as the roll & meat seemed to be a lower quality than expecting. -Vegetable spring rolls: 3/5, again mediocre. No dipping sauce which was not a pleasant surprise. And for the price the quantity was light in my opinion. Overall, we were left slightly disappointed. I would give this one more try in restaurant before ruling it out completely but for almost $50 for the 3 above items it feels overpriced for what you're getting. All of the 5 star reviews from others make me think that maybe trying the pho would be a better option, but for now we'll stick with our usual spot. read more

On a Thursday where all their pho is allegedly $9, I paid full price: $19. The broth was about average; the amount of meat was so-so. All in all, it tasted more like a $9 bowl of pho. I thought the garnishes were a nice idea since they were already taken off the stem, but there could have been more. It was only enough greens for about a quarter of the bowl. Google reviews stated that there may be inflated 5 star reviews so that's why I'm reviewing on Yelp. Was looking for Pho and found this newer Vietnamese restaurant so gave it a try. Really pretty space inside and the nicest crew working there - really friendly. They also have some opening season promotions although I didn't really pay attention to them. Crispy wings and pork spring rolls were awesome! The pho itself was ok - I was left wishing for a bolder flavor in the broth as it was too mellow. The noodles a little too soft, and the meat a little too sparse. Not a bad bowl, just also not the best I was hoping it could be. Will still be coming back, and also to get the Bahn Mi bc it looked delicious! Wife and I just had our first dining experience there. A weekday lunch. Love the ambiance, our server "Mo" explained everything. My wife and I both chose different 3 course lunch specials. I would rate this place 0 stars if I could. The manager was rude and refused to take responsibility for the fact that the restaurant's own flyer didn't clearly indicate that orders through this app are PICKUP only. I enjoyed this place, I remember way back before there was any Vietnamese restaurant on Long Island in 2012 and before that. We had to drive to Fushing or Bayside to get a bowl of Pho. Flushing Vietnamese restaurants served the Lemongrass grilled chicken and a bowl of Pho. This reminded me of way back in the day when the family and I would go to Fushing or Bayside to get Pho.
