According to my Honey, years ago he had one of the best margaritas here during happy hour. So, I was eager to go and see for myself. We arrived on December 1st for a late lunch. We were greeted warmly at the door and seated at a table near the bar. We ordered margaritas. I must say I was underwhelmed. Clearly, premixed and contained too much syrup. The Honey was so confused and disappointed. We started with Chili Con Carne and Ceviche as appetizers. He enjoyed the chili but, we both prefer our ceviche prepared in lime/citrus juices. This one was prepared in a red sauce. Our entrees of Cazuela del Mar and Ensalada de Taco (Chicken) were fresh, flavorful and delicious! These meals saved the day. Flan for dessert was an excellent choice. We've decided this establishment is worth a return visit. We will try other dishes sans the drinks and apps that didn't tickle our fancies this time. read more

We came here for a family party. I literally have not been here in 8 or so years ... pleasant surprise same menu and same faces, from the bartender, host to the cooks. I. Love. This. Place! (Let me explain the 4 vs 5 stars...) I haven't live on Long Island in over a decade, but I used to frequent this little magical Mexican paradise often when it was known as Meson Ole. My friend and I have ordered many pitchers of sangria in our times there; this time I opted for a glass (okay. Two glasses) and let me tell you, this has forever been my favorite sangria in over a decade of trying sangrias!! So, sangria is 5 stars for sure. The previously known "tortilla soup" now has a new menu name but is still the same soup, and is as delicious as I remember it being. The quesadilla, too, did not disappoint. But the soup and the sangria are hands down my favorite! The place itself is decorated cute, but ... but!... it does smell musty, like an old building, which I know that it is. But could use a little freshening up maybe? We also had a window seat and noticed quite a few dead flies on the window sil, and another 2 that were flying around as we were eating... so sadly, not the most appetizing environment to be eating in. Maybe hang a few fly traps somewhere? Regardless, this place holds a special place in my sangria-loving heart. I am giving them two stars only for the virgin pina colada I had which was decent and the service was decent. Other than that the restaurant had an off smell like must in the carpets or something. Very musty. My Son and I sat down to eat and they brought chips and salsa. The chips were dark didn't look burnt but almost had a burnt taste. The salsa was very thin and watery and tasted like it came from a can. I asked if they had queso which was not on the menu but the waitress said they had it. I was brought out a cup of melted yellow processed cheese that I'm assuming was microwaved because it was dripping down the outside of the cup. And it had hot and cold spots. So yeah microwaved. Zero flavor. No green chilis or tomatoes. Not even salt and pepper. At this point I started getting discouraged but I was with my Son and I didn't want him to feel bad. So I got my entree which was the 3 enchilada combo that came with rice and beans. A chicken enchilada a beef enchilada and a cheese enchilada. The cheese inside the cheese enchilada was never melted and it was cold. Like cold shredded cheese. The other two enchiladas were just ok. Bland. No flavor but at least they were hot. Rice and beans were the best thing on the plate. My Son's dinner looked ok and he didn't complain about anything but he pretty much will eat anything. We got the bill and it was $75.00. They charged me $4.80 for my Son's coke. . It was coke out of the soda gun. I was shocked. My virgin pina colada was $9.00 which was a little high in my opinion considering it had no alcohol. After tip my bill was $85.00. A coke., A virgin pina colada, the two entrees and the "queso" which was $5.99. I was disappointed and I won't go back again. Plaza margarita is one of those hidden gems in the heart of Long Island. You will not find a more accommodating, friendly, and warm staff, especially Nora. The food is made with love, especially the garlic soup. I don't care if it's 30° or 100°, I always have to get the garlic soup. if you're looking for an adult beverage, don't be shy to ask the bartender what the specials are... Especially the sangria. I have been here before it turned into plaza, margarita, and always loved it. Didn't care for it when I visited after changed, but figured I'd give it another go passing through a few days ago/maybe a week. I feel like I'd really give it 3 1/2 stars. First off, the service was amazing, the woman at the bar was very friendly and helpful. The gentleman that was there was also very friendly and helpful. The drink, a margarita, was delicious. However, in my opinion, based on just this meal, it was average. Tasty, not bland, but now the best I've had.. I would give about 3 1/2 stars for the food. However, I only had one meal, so I really can't give you a full judgment on it. Didn't like the jelly-like salsa though, but that's my personal preference and I know some people like it. My biggest issue was the cleanliness of the pitchers I saw hanging, behind the bar was perfectly clean, so I'm not sure what happened with the pitchers that were hanging up. We've been here several times, and the one word I can use is consistency. The staff is always friendly, and it's always a parade of different servers, making sure you have everything you need. Restaurant always appears clean, although darker than we prefer, and decorated for the current holiday. Chips and salsa are served as well as bread if you choose. Both me and my husband have our go-to meals. I always have seafood soup, which comes out piping hot and just delicious. Amazing flavor, with the perfect amount of fish/shrimp. Then, I order the #3 combination that includes a tostada, burrito, and enchilada. It comes with refried beans and rice. My husband orders the chili con Carne and fajita combination, which comes out sizzling on a cast iron skillet. Served with tortillas, refried beans, and rice. Wow, been living in Centereach over 30 years and never tried this place. My wife wanted paella so we tried it and wow, it was great. I got the steak fajitas and they were the best I ever had, my wife got the paella Valenciana and she normally complains about everything but even she said the food was great. My wife and I used to be locals to this place when it was Meson Ole. We moved further west and Everytime we get a craving for restaurant style Mexican this is our go to joint. Highly recomend the nachos and the flautas as a starter. The nachos are each individually plated and you get 8 of them. We prefer to get with chicken and the flavors are amazing. Topped with cheese and SC it'll knock your socks off. Flautas are awesome (you get 4) also. For a main my wife's goes for the combo 1 (enchiladas suizas) which are chicken enchiladas with a creamy Verde sauce. I go for the enchiladas mole (a slightly spicy nutty sauce). Also come out perfectly cooked. The rice and beans are a great addition. If you want to splurge a small pitcher of Sangria for about 24 bucks yields about 6 glasses in total. The atmosphere is very warm and comforting. You feel like you are eating south of the border. With new regulations in place, we were able to look up the menu on our cell phones to limit contact. Tables were spaced adequately within the dining room. The tamale was cold though which was disappointing. The rest of the food was pretty tasty although could be a tiny bit hotter in temp. I'm surprised I never wrote a review earlier. This place is special to my family. My family and I have always come here back when it was called Meson Ole. We come here for birthdays (and wear the sombrero) and other occasions. We were so upset when it closed a couple years ago but we were delighted when we found out that one of the staff had bought the restaurant. She kept most of the our favorites on the menu from Meson Ole which made us so happy, plus some new ones! I always get the taco salad with ground beef. I can't find any other place that makes it like them. It's my absolute favorite. They always give you chips and salsa to start, as well as fresh crusty warm bread with butter for the table. Whenever we go we get a pitcher of the sangria or the margaritas... so good! Last month I came here with my sister and a friend on a Saturday night. We finished dinner and it was close to closing. We were the only ones left in the restaurant. We explained we were just waiting for our ride. They brought over to us a complimentary shot of tequila with lime while we waited. How nice! The staff are always attentive when we are there and are so friendly. Love this place! I hope it stays open forever. read more

It was not crowded when my wife and i sat. We had a couple of very nice entrees. She had shrimp with Chipotle sauce and I had my standard chicken enchiladas. This was a so-so experience. They had a children's menu which was great, but when we asked for a children's cup, they gave us a to go coffee cup and the waiter took the utensil set from my child. Anyway, the chips and salsa was good, I don't really understand why they offer bread and butter. We had a nice appetizer, mini flauntas. It was a great presentation but a little bland.
