2nd time here and it hasn't disappointed. I love enchiladas so I went with their enchiladas suizas and it was so delicious. Even the side of rice and beans was spot on. This place was fun! Mariachi band playing as we walked in the door. Warm and friendly staff made us feel comfortable and at home. Welcoming environment, the food was DELICIOUS. Perfect sized portions. Event the rice an bean plate accompanying the entree was better than the rest. Dessert was a banana dish flamed right in front of us. The sauce was so good we drank it through drink stirrers lol. Espresso was a perfect end to the meal. The waiter gave us a shot of tequila an appertif. Taking it old school and writing a review without any photos. Sorry for that but I still wanted to give Azulejos their proper review! Came in for lunch over the weekend with family while visiting the area. We had a wonderful time, service was great, as was the food and drinks! We started with the table side guacamole to start which was fresh and made to our liking as asked by our nice waiter. Homemade chips and salsa were also given. I had a wonderful strawberry mojito which was so fresh, strong, and really hit the spot. Probably one of the best I have had! If we weren't going to do other things, I would loved to have stayed and had another one. A good drink is worth it's weight in gold! We all ordered a variety of items from tacos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. I am a big fan of mole sauce so I got the chicken enchiladas in a mole sauce which was really good. The sauce had a lot of depth of flavor with a little spicy kick. It tasted authentic and homemade. Overall, we had a really great lunch and a nice time here. After looking on yelp for a New Mexican spot i decided on Azulejos based on most of the very positive reviews here. Definitely was not disappointed. Came here on a Wednesday night and the place was pretty dead which was nice. -Nachos 3/5, not your typical nacho dish. This was maybe 10 chips around a plate that were "stuffed" with toppings. Not bad just not what I'm used to when ordering a nacho app. -Chicken Tacos/Ground Beef Tacos 4/5, well seasoned with nice potions. Didn't feel skimped on like so many other establishments. The meat was cooked well not dry. Each dish comes with 3 tacos. -Chipotle Mango Margarita 5/5, easily the highlight of our visit. Fantastic drink. The chipotle salt was a great little kicker. Highly recommend this drink if you're a mango fan. Overall, very happy with the decision to come here. Thanks to all the helpers who took the time to rate this restaurant. Started with the queso fundido 6/10 Tortilla soup 3/10 Boyfriend had short rib fajitas. Which were inedible... had to spit it out tasted old and sour but couldn't get something else bc server wasn't present. Sangria you're better off just drinking cheap wine Over all not a good experience.. server not present Wish I would've left when I saw an empty restaurant on a Tuesday when they have a taco special Tuesdays ... Restaurant staff was pleasant and helpful but I got the impression they didn't want to be there . As far as the food, everyone enjoyed their appys and meals. My chicken fajitas were dry but I settled . Chips were ok but salsa is not. I wish they would have been generous with the portion size. Cocktails and margaritas were a little weak. Had an amazing dinner here tonight to celebrate my daughters birthday! We've been here for dinner many times and the food has only gotten better! We had Chilean Sea Bass, Skirt Steak and Enchiladas. Overpriced and food is bland yet they want to call themselves "fine dining" ordered some quesadillas and they have the nerve to serve something that looked like it came straight off of the kids menu. It not even regular sized, appetizer or not there's no reason the the sour cream and guacamole that they pile ontop of it to completely cover the whole plate. I could've made a better on at home. Ordered calamari and it tasted like nothing special for fine dining. My sister ordered the fajitas and the steak was overwhelmingly under-seasoned and bland as was the rest of the food here. Whole bill came out to almost $200 including tip for 4 people plus they charge a $7 convenience fee for credit cards even though we used debit. Overall not an authentic mexican restaurant and way overpriced only good thing was the drinks, but an fyi the pinacolda comes out inside a whole pineapple for $30. I have been meaning to update my review for a while now. After returning to Azulejos a few times since my initial visit, I have to say they have greatly improved their game. The menu and food quality have evolved into delicious and inventive Mexican cuisine that I keep coming back for. The bar menu in particular has really been developed with exotic and plentiful varieties of margaritas and other Mexican inspired drinks. Their red sangria alone is worth the trip with a spike of oak-flavored brandy to really set it off! I gotta give it to Azulejos for having the staying power as their predecessors who occupied this space have not been so fortunate. 3 years going strong now. Adrien very annoyed that he did not have enough staff to take care of my party. He stated he was only told the day prior. No communication again! Bathroom upstairs broken lock. Party members got locked inside and could not get out. Toilet overflowed. Was told that they were having an issue .When paying the bill.. Came here about a month ago with some family! To be honest we were headed somewhere else but when it was closed we decided to give this place a shot! I'm very glad we did!! For drinks we ordered pitchers of Sangria and Margaritas! We got the fresh lime in the margaritas which was great because it wasn't overly sugary or sweet! The margaritas were definitely our favorite compared to the sangria so if you're between the two that's what I would recommend for sure! We skipped the apps and stuck with the delicious chips and salsa which were great! For dinner we all ordered something different. I got a taco salad with chicken, everyone else got a steak dish, stuffed poblano peppers, and enchiladas! We all very much enjoyed our dishes. However, even though they were pretty good, they definitely weren't the best we've ever had. I'd say that we all kind of agreed that the food was lacking some spices that we would have expected being at a Mexican restaurant and all! For dessert we ordered churros which were delicious, but then again it's hard to go wrong with these! Overall like I said, not the best place I've been to but definitely very good! Probably one of the few authentic Mexican restaurants in the Smithtown area with a huge selection of tapas and entrees to choose from, with something for everyone. I've only been here a handful of times, but the quality of the food has always been consistent and on point, and the staff attentiveness and friendliness is commendable. I enjoyed it very much . I had the grilled pork chops with yellow rice and black beans . Very flavorful. I also drank 2 peach margaritas also very good. I had a Spanish coffee very good. Also the bananas foster/flambé . Very nice presentation. Also had some apps :chorizos, stuffed jalapeños. , chips and salsa. Guacamole was also very good. As for the staff ;attentive and personable. Early Saturday evening I wanted to go somewhere with good drinks. Azulejos was recently featured in a local paper as a newly opened restaurant where Uncle Bacalas used to be. Apparently it has the same owners as Viva la Vida of Oakdale which serves up a variety of Margaritas/tequilas. From outside, the restaurant is pretty nondescript. The bar area seems somewhat small and not as well lighted as the dining area. We were seated quickly next to a tile mural wall of starfish and seashell. Complimentary tortilla chips and salsa came soon. The chips were fresh and crispy and the salsa was standard. The service in the beginning was a bit spotty and there was no drink menu as of yet. We asked the waiter who took our drink order how much was the pitcher of Sangria. He went to ask and disappeared for about 15 minutes and reappeared at a neighboring table making tableside guacamole! Finally, another waiter came and we placed our orders. Glass of red sangria, house margarita, enchilada poblana, and paella Valenciana. Our drinks came and one sip of my Sangria made me disappointed at having picked this place for good drinks. My red sangria tasted like cheap red house wine, diluted with ice. I didn't taste any fruit infused flavor. After one more sip I ditched that for a watermelon margarita, which was a much better choice. Refreshing and just enough tequila with a nice presentation. My main dish chicken enchilada poblana came with rice, salad, and beans. The rice and beans were nicely cooked and lightly seasoned. My enchiladas were good, and I've only had mole sauce a handful of times so I'm no expert, but theirs was slightly on the bitter side. The paella, on the other hand, I've had numerous times, and theirs lacked seasoning especially saffron. The rice was perfectly cooked with good texture but the dish definitely needed to kick it up a notch in seasoning.
