Mexican There is a real dearth of authentic Mexican places on Long Island so I was happy to see Azulejos open - even in the dead zone they are in. Biggish bar area greets you when you walk in, and I got started with fresh margaritas with lime juice (their "natural") which is heads and tails better than the crap we always get with sour mix from the bar gun in just about every other restaurant in the U.S. A bowl of tortilla chips with some spicy salsa got my taste buds going and I decided to work my way through as many items on the menu in order to gauge the food - started off with chicken tamales. Decent but not outstanding. Large overall and good. Next up came the garlic soup- I love that stuff and this was good but not as powerful as I have had at other places. Still good. Followed it up with fish tacos that were on the specials menu. Again good - but not spectacular. Bartender / owner was outstandingly nice and overall I think this place can only go up- they are off to a good start and I will check it again in the near future. Overall a solid place. Stopped by for lunch with a few old co-workers and this place is a hidden gem! First let's start with margaritas, fresh and authentic. Not to sweet and not to strong...beware, the tequila creeps up on you (they use good tequila). The food took a little longer then other Mexican restaurants, but, IT WAS WORTH IT! I ordered the burrito, it wasn't to big or to small and you can taste the authenticity. Margs where semi expensive at $9 a drink, but lunch was $9.95. If they maybe had a deal for margs/lunch this place might not be as quiet as it is. 4 stars because of the price of margs and he amount of Time it took for the food to come out. 1st time patrons at Azulejos and they did not disappoint. Had a very comfortable outdoor dining set up with heaters. Chips and salsa came out immediately. Ordered a pitcher of red sangria and went with a stuffed jalapeño wrapped in bacon to start with. As an entrée, we had the Chuletos de Cordero & Fajitas de Marisco which were outstanding. Unfortunately, we couldn't eat dessert. Service was excellente and would definitely come again next time we are in the area. Wow. One of my favorite places for Mexican was Baja Grill in Smithtown. Ever since that closed, I've been looking for a nice Mexican restaurant - and I think I finally found it. I had the enchilada and my wife ordered a burrito. Both were amazing. On top of the food being excellent, the wait staff couldn't have been any nicer. The decor was nice and they even had someone there singing. Overall, it was a really nice night. I was also impressed with the menu as well. Excellent authentic Mexican fare. One tapas favorite of mine is the stuffed jalapenos wrapped in thick cut bacon and stuffed with scallops and shrimp. Margaritas are outstanding. read more

Really good service, really good food (except for the watery, spicy salsa) and really good Sangria. I had a special prime rib and shrimp combo that was very tasty, but slightly small on the portion size. My wife had the seafood paella which she said was one of the better ones she has ever had. The Sangria was a little pricey, but very fresh and fruity. And the table-side guacamole was possibly the best we ever had, but again a little chintzy on the portion size. I had been meaning to try this place after driving past it zillions of times traveling through car dealership row. Finally made it here for a Saturday night dinner with my family. I had 6:30pm reservations, but my family was hungry, we showed up a few minutes early, and they took care of getting us seated within 5 minutes. I expected the restaurant area to be much larger, but it's nice, and doesn't feel crowded. Every table was occupied, which was great, because the place was hopping. I've seen some reviews questioning the service in this place. I felt as though we were very well taken care of in a team effort by the wait staff. Having children with us, it's always important to ensure the drinks come quickly and the food order is placed not too long thereafter. In terms of drinks, I ordered a traditional Margarita, and while it was delicious, I feel like it wasn't enough. I finished it with a few sips of the straw. Ended up switching to red wine. My wife ordered a Pinot Grigio, but it tasted flat. They took it away and brought her a beer and didn't charge for the Pinot. There are dozens of drinks on the menu I wanted to try though! Food-wise, we ordered a few things, the empanadas were very good, we got the beef ones. The chipotle sauce that came with them was delicious. Shrimp ceviche was also very tasty and I loved the spicyness of the lemon juice. For dinner, my daughter ordered the scallops which were cooked to perfection. I got the fish (snapper) tacos and they were great. My wife got the steak tacos and they were super tasty. Short rib tacos were also a great option. All in all, I'm glad I finally tried this place. I'm happy that the restaurants in the area are getting better. From the looks of it, this place should stick around as long as it keeps up with the great food and good service. Met with family & dear friends for a long overdue get-together. Never been to this restaurant before and couldn't be more pleased with the choice. Delicious dinner...First time here and will definitely be returning. The drinks were perfect. Love the complimentary chips and salsa. We started with the special lobster empanadas that I will be dreaming about. I had the skirt steak with cheese enchilada and both were cooked perfectly. Azulejos was always just the basic Mexican restaurant in my mind. We would go there sometimes but it was never the first thing that popped into any of our heads when thinking of a place to eat for dinner. Tonight we decided to go for whatever reason and i can't even describe how surprised i was. The overall experience there improved almost 1000%. The staff were super attentive and our food was amazing! I recommend the basic tacos, simple but delicious. Everything was bursting with flavor. The place itself is a little small but is filled with cute decor and feels very cozy. My only complaint would be about the salsa, it was the only thing that didn't have much flavor, it was actually very watery. Went to happy hour with coworkers. Staffs were very friendly. We literally ordered every single item on the happy hour appetizer menu. The only thing I like was their chorizo quesadilla. Everything else was just ok. Tried the classic, mango, pineapple, and lavender mojito. I really liked the classic mojito. Lavender mojito was blue and tasted like chemical water....definitely don't recommend (plus it's not on happy hour menu). They have a huge selection on their happy hour menu but it's only 15% off the regular price so you don't really save a lot of $$. Their guacamole tasted really weird. I think they put lots of scallion in it and I've never had guac w/ scallion and don't think they go too well together. Just got done having a birthday dinner for my wife with my dad and the kids. She had decided she wanted good Mexican for dinner, which is hard to find on long island. You can get great Mexican style burritos etc, but not real sit down Mexican. All I know is Azulejos does not dissapoint. Started with 2 items from the tapas menu, empanadas and fried avocados. Both delicious. The empanadas were house made and fantastic! For dinner, 2 people had paella, one a burrito and one a taco salad. I had the steak and manchego stuffed poblanos, also fantastic. After reading the reviews I decided to check this place out on a Friday Night. We had reservations but could've been sat when we arrived either way. Customer service was quick and friendly. The Guac that is made table side is amazing, possibly the best I've ever had! The chicken burrito was huge and delicious. My wife and I went there this past Friday. We had never been to this restaurant before. Upon entering we were greeted by nice guitar music being played live. Staff are pleasant, courteous , smiling and genuinely happy to be there. Always a plus when you see the staff is happy. The food is excellent. Portions are great. Presentation is perfect. So disappointed tonight after receiving our food ( delivery ) that the food was cold and soggy with three items missing. The overall tase was bland and flavorless. The baked clams had a very sharp shard of shell in the stuffing, the Pico was big chunks of tomato and avocado (?) and the calamari was barley breaded and greasy.
