Definitely did not meet my expectations. Saw great reviews and was so excited to try it. The place is nice and has a Mexican feel. The service was great. Very attentive. We started off with the guacamole. They make it tableside. This was not good at all. It lacked a lot of authentic ingredients and was very dry. It tasted like pure avocado. I then ordered the carne asada. This came with rice and black beans with an onion mushroom sauce. The carne asada was Ok. Not the best one I've ever had. The rice and beans were very small portion and the black beans had a funny taste. The second dish was the lamb chops. This had a mushroom sauce as well. The lamb chops were cooked medium but did not taste good. The seasoning was way off. They had a good selection of desserts but I was not happy with the food so I didn't attempt the desert. I still have two restaurant.com gift certificates so I suppose I will have to try to eat there 2 more times. Hoping for a better outcome. read more

It was a slow weekday night, my husband and I ordered seafood paella, lobster cake, octopus and Shirley temple. Food was very good but skip the sugary drinks. For take out, we had another paella because it was that good, meatballs and tripe...meatballs are raved on Yelp and the tripe was recommended by the heavy set waiter but I wasn't a fan of the tripe or meatballs. Service was great, owner kept coming by to make sure we were ok. Good eat for smithtown, very mom and pops type feel of cooking..would come back again. read more

I don't know where these other people went or if the restaurant wrote their own reviews but this place is extremely overrated. The only good thing about the restaurant was the service and the overall atmosphere. The food was extremely pricey and not even close to worth the money. Just look at the picture. Each one of those "appetizers" (which were not appetizing what-so-ever) came out to be approximately a dollar each. We literally left food and went to a separate Mexican restaurant. I went to try out this restaurant because a friend recommended it to me and I was blown away with how good the food was. I went with my boyfriend who usually is very picky of what he eat and he ate almost everything off of his plate. I went on a Tuesday which is when they have there Taco Tuesday so I ordered the steak tacos and they were amazing. I also ordered a mango margarita which was delicious not to strong. Based on the service. If I could give negative stars I would. The two stars are because the food was very good. Service, AWFUL. We go out to eat, often, we've never had such horrible service before. Ever. First off, we had a reservation and we had to wait 15 min. Which is totally fine. We get seated, sit there with our drinks from the bar and don't get approached by our "waiter" for at least 20 min. When he does come he doesn't greet us and just asks us if we are ready to order. We order apps and another drink. Sit there another 20 min and then get asked by the manager to move our table, move, and then continue to get no service. We had to ask to place our dinner order. Dinner comes, very good. Still no service. We literally had no set waiter and had to ask for everything via a waiter/waitress walking by. Long story short. Service was awful. read more

We have been here four times since they opened and it is consistently good. (Come on you know consistence is always the problem!) this time we tried the fried avacado appie. and it was actually very good...my 14 year old son loved it.....but he is quesadilla plain with cheese kind of kid.......we ALL love the chips and salsa...I read one review above saying it was standard and We actually think it's great...I guess salsa is one of those things that are very individual but my whole family thinks it's great!.....I don't eat meat but I do eat fish so I have tried the fajitas and thought they were authentic and delicious.....but the chile poblanos are what I keep reordering, I just love them!....one time out of three they were incredibly spicy but it was the actual pepper, the other times they had a kick but great, even the spicy ones were great but check first if spice isn't for you.....my daughter who came with us recently when she was home from college had to have the carne asada because meat at college apparently must be avoided! And she loved it! My husband gets different taco combos every time and says the chicken and beef are both fantastic. The only desert we have had has been the flan and while I order it every time it's just good....but again consistently good......so go enjoy the very nice staff and very clean restaurant it's worth it.... read more

I have no idea how I never knew of this place before now! This is by far the best Mexican food in the area. Last night we ordered Enchiladas Poblano and Chicken Chimichangas. Our favorite Mexican dishes include Mole sauce and the Enchiladas did not disappoint, fresh tortillas, perfectly moist shredded chicken and the most balanced Mole sauce I've had on Long Island. We ordered an extra side of mole sauce so I could dip my chimichangas in it and I was so glad I did. The meals came with rice and pinto beans and chips and delicious homemade salsa. The kind of salsa with fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers and lime, clearly no can was involved in making this salsa. We devoured it. The staff was so friendly and responsive. We plan to head back and take the entire family next time. We feel so lucky to have found this place and can't wait to return. read more

Best Fine Mexican around! This place clearly has no been discovered yet. No crowd. 200 tequilas, and several different great margaritas. The closest place that compares is Bositos in Huntington Village. Very authentic Mexican. Much better flavors than Del Fuego in St James. Also very reasonability priced. Overall nowhere near as good as my last visit. Chips and salsa were same as last visit. Appetizer of Avocado Fries was a few slices of Avocado breaded and fried. They were fine but bland and in need of seasoning. Soft tacos were OK but light on the chicken. Chicken Fajitas were usual fare. Asked if it could have mushrooms instead of onions and was told yes. When the bill came they charged extra $3 for the substitution but should have been told in advance. Enchiladas Chipotle has a great sauce but the plate was steaming how with the food not hot enough and seemingly reheated on the plate. Rice and beans were minimal portions, An order of cheese Enchiladas ordered with extra sauce resulted in an extra charge for the additional sauce without being told. Same hot plate with food not not enough. We were told there is no childrens menu but they could do grilled chicken and rice. It was normal grilled chicken and a small portion of rice. When we got the bill the dish was $19. This isnt the way to keep customers. Fried ice cream was standard stuff. Bananas Flambe described to us as like Bananas Foster. Other than having bananas in it it wasnt that close. No cinnamon or vanilla, just banana slices with sugar and lemon juice flambeed and not that good. Flan which was good last time wasnt good. Had a thick skin on top like pudding. All in all this visit was very disappointing. We felt like we got ripped off on the childs meal and extra sauce/substitutions. If you want to charge for extra sauce tell customers about it. And if grilled chicken and rice for a child is $19 you need to let us know. Not doing so will cause you to lose customers. read more

We saw this restaurant featured in a Yelp email this morning. Glad we did! Do not miss any course! White corn soup with chicken was unlike any chicken soup I've ever had. Chicken Fundido was topped with a sausage, poblanos and mild cheese. My husband had steak and raved about it. We had Churros and Tres Leches cake. Even the coffee was perfect. Our experience was not so great here. Went here for dinner on a Saturday around 6pm. After being seated, must've waited another half hour before our server came around asking if we were ready order. We ordered the guacamole for our appetizer and a burrito for our entree. Another half hour rolls by and only our entree comes. I didn't care at this point about the guacamole. After finishing our meal (which was bland and unseasoned by the way), we asked for the check. They charged $30 for a half pitcher of sangria. If you ever find yourself craving a margarita, beeline it to this place because their Tradicional Margarita is delicious! As a matter of fact, sit at the bar so the wait time between your margarita being freshly made and you getting your first sip is little to non-existent. Yes, it's that good. My husband and I shared a half-pitcher - which divided to about 2 full margarita glasses each - but next time we're goin' do it right and order a full pitcher. We did also dine in (something had to absorb the tequila after all). Staff was great and service was quick but our meal was your typical Mexican fare so I don't think it deserves mention. WE WENT AGAIN- and well...it may have been even BETTER than the first fantastic experience. First off, Kelly is an amazing host and along with pedro run this wonderful restaurant. The wait staff are ALL excellent. Once again the empanadas (beef) were unbelievable. We will get them every time we go (you get 2 for 9.) but they are large and filled nicely with a fresh delicious crust. This time we both had the seafood valencia (paella with seafood and sausage). Should have known better when there was only 1 other table occupied at 8pm on a Saturday night. 1. Chips and salsa. Stale chips with tasteless salsa. 2. Pozole. Needed salt, had no taste otherwise. Served in a wrong bowl. You can't scoop the pozole which forces you to tilt the bowl excessively. Doesn't matter to me, but in a nice restaurant environment, shouldn't have to. 3. Empanadas. Dough looked home made, which excited my taste buds, until I took a bite. Beef was oily and had no seasoning. 4. Carne Asada. Looked like a nice portion. Decent presentation. But, lots of fat had to be cut out and its membrane layer was still on some of the steak. Wife only had 2 bites and wasn't even asked if she wanted anything else or for it to be removed. 5. Chicken Mole. This was bad. I've never had thin, boneless, chicken cutlets in any mole dish I've ever had. The mole sauce was ok, tasted like the one you get out the Donia Maria bottle. The refried beans had PERFECT consistency, but lacked flavor. A little bacon grease would do the trick, trust me. The Mexican rice was as bland as Uncle Ben's instant white rice. No vegetables, no peppers, no spices. We were turned off by dinner we didn't even get dessert. Stopped at the Carvel up the road. I don't care how much food costs, when it's great.
